My family and I had a fantastic meal recently at La Stalla. It was so nice to be in a family restaurant where my wife and I were able to truly relax with our children. We had heard that the outside seating and bar area get busy on beautiful nights, so we asked to sit in the main dining room with a view of the open kitchen. The kids loved watching Ben and Louie handle all of the orders coming through. Marc and Vince were talking with lots of the customers and I thought it was great to see that they obviously value the friendships they've developed. Not to mention, the food was great! read more

Terrific restaurant - fresh food - great atmosphere - excellent staff. We have been here many times and it is our go to place for large family (7+) gatherings. The menu is good for kids to senior citizens. My wife and I like this for date night dinners as well. read more

I hosted my sons' wedding rehearsal for 42 people at LaStalla. Plates of food were served family style and the food was delicious and abundant. They try their best to make you feel part of their family. Went this last Sat @ 4; made reservations by email with Manager Marc (informed them my mother in law used a walker). Greeted by assistant Danielle with a big smile and directions to side patio door. Food (risotto with shrimp) was exquisite and house Chianti was a perfect compliment. Very average restaurants with high prices. Sauces have very little flavor. My chicken francaise was served in a trough and was difficult to cut with the height of the bowel.... chicken was too thick. Escarole and beans side was $8.00 and had not been drained of the water. My friend had shrimp and rice for $26 and again was flavorless and full of water. Best thing on the menu was the spumoni. Awful food, bad service, noisy. We had dinner there last night - the waiter recommended the pork chop special which turned out to be hard as a rock and barely edible. They seated us next to a serving station where the serving staff clanked down the used dishes - it was very unpleasant and I would never go back there. read more

We are local to the area so we decided to try this restaurant out after passing it a million times. We stopped in for lunch which is my preferred method as lunch is usually less expensive and if it's good, we'll be back for dinners in the future. After waiting a long time for someone to show at our table, finally a guy dressed in all black showed up with slicked back black hair just stood there in front of our table. So, we asked, "Are you here to take our order?" He snootily responded, "Yes, that's what I'm here for." I guess if you are posing or are a European waiter, you are better than us. So, we ordered sandwiches and our teenage son ordered an expensive chicken entree. After about 40 minutes (no exaggeration) the food finally arrived. My veggie sandwich was bland and my wife's meat on her sandwich was dry yet chewy. Our son's meal was swimming in oil and sloppy to eat plus the chicken was an extreme dieter's portion. Mother's Day Brunch was poor. They accept more reservations than they can accommodate. We had a reservation for 1:30 but didn't get in until 1:50. Line for buffet was very long . It seemed they had a lot of people coming at the same time. There was only one buffet station & only a single line in a very confined area. They needed multiple stations & multiple lines. When we got to the buffet, some of the dishes were empty or near empty (eggs, salad, penne). I never did get any shrimp. Some dishes that should have been hot were cold. This review is strictly for the customer service I received recently for my first take out order. I find the food here to be definitely 5 stars. I had a Living Social deal I had purchased with the intent to use it on my birthday. I ended up giving birth on my birthday! My husband called for take out to bring to the hospital for a special birthday meal. He explained to them this was going to the hospital and please pack it well and that we will need plastic utensils. Also he asked for mashed potatoes with my chicken franchaise And they said they couldn't do that. When he picked up the food they said he couldn't use the LS deal on take out (nothing mentioned on the actual voucher regarding this. Very disappointing). Upon opening everything to eat there were no utensils and also just two pieces of chicken, not even a pasta or vegetable side. For an order that cost over $80 it was a very disappointing experience. We eat here often and have hosted a couple of special events here. This experience wasn't like any others we had there. It was sad that more care wasn't taken especially considering my husband had told them about the baby etc read more

Thanksgiving at La Stalla was a nightmare. The worst dining experience I ever had. By the time my husband and I showed up our party of 15 was already seated. We were the ones who picked La Stalla and had eaten there serval times. I could tell the waiter was already frustrated I'm guessing because some people in our party wanted separate checks. I could hear him mumbling "it's Thanksgiving what kind of people are you to do separate checks". My husband and I are not the kind of people who request separate checks not even in a large party setting but none the less if the waiter didn't want to do it all he had to do is apologize and say he's sorry but the restaurant can't do separate checks for large party's. Instead he would make comments like well your food is going to come out all out of order. Some of you will be eating and some won't. Some will get there entrées before there appetizers it's going to be all messed up. He wasn't kidding our food came out Beyond messed up. We didn't know who's food was who's Something's came out in family style and some didn't .. If you were one with the family style appetizer or entrée you weren't giving any plates to put your food on. Thank god I was sitting where the pile of plates were behind me so I was just grabbing plates and handing them to my confused looking guests. As some people were eating and most were not I could hear my guests Complaining "Who picked this place". I just wanted to hide under the table. Finally the dinner is coming to a close, now time for our SEPARATE checks. Are you ready for this..... It comes out in One Check. Hahahaha. Why did our food come out so messed up if the whole time you had us all on one check. Believe me when I tell you this waiter had no idea who order what and people were getting there entrées before there appetizers and no plates to put there food on. Not once was anyone asked "How is everything" but I guess because our waiter was just as confused as we all were. What I don't get is why was he so confused and our services so bad if all long he had us all on one check. I know without a doubt none of my guests will return to La Stalla and it will take me a few years to forget this horrible dinning experience. I have waited 6 weeks for a response from someone at LaStalla after writing a personal letter to the owner/manager. So far I have not heard from anyone regarding my complaint. I had my daughter's bridal luncheon Ithere on Sun. Oct24th in the private wine room. I had ten family members there. I confrimed the reservation the night before. When we arrived the table was completely bare (no candles, napkins, plates,etc.) but the waiter told us to be seated and it was definately downhill from there. I had to ask for everything to be served even water. It was as if we were their very first customers ever! I spent a great deal of money for our luncheon and I was totally disappointed.In retrospect I should have voiced my disappointment during the lunch but when you have guests I did not feel that I wanted to make a scene and tried to just grin and bear it. I guess the most disaapointeing aspect of this was that there was no response to my letter. Shame on La Stalla for not trying to take their customers into consideration. I am so sorry that I chose La Stalla for such a special event and will certainly not make that mistake in the future.There are many, many restaurants to choose from in the Newtown area.....perhaps the owners of La Stalla should also consider this... read more

ok, so my wife did their recent living social $20 for $40 meal; that got us back in the door after our last experience was not great (food nor service). last night unfortunately showed us why we had stayed away before. first of all, our waiter informed us that mondays they have 1/2 price wine bottles (wife liked that idea), but....if we had a living social they give you either or (doh!)...ok, i can handle that, after all, they are trying to make money and giving us the special wine deal might be a stretch (although, i still think they should honor both since they are mutually exclusive, and the $25 bottle of wine is still profitable for them at $12.50)...ok, moving on.... waiter was nice, attentive, all the normal stuff ....ofterd drinks (we got the full priced wine, btw) - he told us the specials; appetizer of shrimp wrapped in bacon, either 4 or 8, fish special, chicken special, and pasta special...cool. we ordered the bacon app, wife had salmon (ok), and i had penne putanessca (ok)...get the bill and we see $26 for the bacon app!!! i said to the waiter that maybe he should had highlighted to us that the app was $13 for 4 shrimp or $26 for 8, especially since we had already had an eggplant ($8) app in mind.(not to mention he clearly understood that we were using the living social coupon too - which might be a tip off that we were trying to save a few bucks, etc) ...his response, "well, we dont ever tell people how much the dinner specials are"...which I get, under normal circumstances, but jeez man...$26 for some unfrozen shrimp wrapped with a piece of bacon, r u serious??!! i figured he would do the right thing and take it off...but no, he just said "thanks for pointing that out to him and he would tell future guests the price" so so italian fare, nice ambiance on a monday (nice change from the friday divorcee hangout), ok service - unfortunately these guys just care about the money and clearly arent there to keep you coming back... much better places to spend your money and have a great meal all within newtown - try florentinos on main street...ambiance out the wazoo, great food, attentive staff, and management that wants you as a customer... read more
