I have to say, after hearing about how great La Stalla was from friends for years, I was so excited to finally have a date night there with my husband last week. I don't know if it was the high expectations that I had, but I found the food to be VERY average. Their tomato sauce was BLAND! And if an Italian restaurant can't even have a good tomato sauce, that's a problem. :/ The gnocchi I had was, again, very average. It didn't taste like fresh gnocchi. It tasted like something I would cook up myself at home, which was disappointing. Same with their Caesar salad. The dressing did not taste fresh or scratch made. It tasted a lot like Ken's Caesar dressing. The wait staff was amazing. They were very friendly and courteous. If I was rating based on service alone, it would be five stars for sure. But the food drops it down to three stars for me. read more

I've come to La Stalla for a long time, but sadly will not be coming back after tonight. We have consistently had problems when ordering for pick up, but kept coming back because we enjoy the food. Tonight was the last straw, however. I went in to pick up my takeout order and the person up front went to the back to check the kitchen after double checking that my name was correct. I then waited in the crowded lobby for 15 minutes without seeing this employee again until they arrived with my food. It is now clear that what happened was they forgot my order and made it in the back while I waited. They could have just told me this and I could have patiently waited outside or gotten a refund so that I could carry on with my evening. Completely uncalled for. Also want to add that we order and pay online so there isn't any potential room for interpretation. Other problems that have happened to us with takeout orders before this incident are the following: - Showed up and they forgot the order - one of our dishes was completely wrong when we got home - missing 'added' part of dish read more

The food was prepared well, delicious, and more than sufficient portions. What made our visit even better was our server, Wilson. Boyfriend took me here for my birthday. I got the 26oz prime rib steak with broccoli rabe and roasted potatoes and he got the truffle sacchetti. Both were absolutely phenomenal. There was sage on the steak which kinda had a hint of breakfast sausage but other then that, the cut/temp/taste was perfect. We also got the ricotta and bread appetizer which was amazing as well. The service was decent. I do have to say the busser's who were running around were very helpful and were very focused on making sure people had water/bread/etc. The one lady was very sweet she kept filling up drinks asking if we needed more bread for the ricotta and even gave us another one right before we left since she noticed I was saving that ricotta for home! La Stalla is amazing! I would definitely recommend making a reservation, even if it's just for two. This place is well known for a good time with good food and will keep you coming back for more! You can go for a night out for drinks or eat, the restaurant suits many occasions. If you go with a big group they offer family style options. They have a great gluten free menu and lots of options from the menu can be made gf as well. My favorite pasta ever is their GF penne with pesto! I literally dream about it. Great ambiance and terrific food. The chicken parmigiana and Fra diavola are wonderful options that you can't go wrong with. The calamari and Arancini are great appetizer options that our whole family enjoys. This is a great spot for groups because they can make dishes family style. Made a reservation well in advance and called several times to ask questions about using Visa Vanilla gift card. Phone was answered and I was immediately put on hold, could not even ask a question. Called back - same thing. If they cannot handle phone traffic they may want to use Open Table, etc. It would go a long way. Meal was very good as was our waitress. Bill came and I presented them with a Vanilla Gift card. The waitress said well I have to ask my manager if we take these. said card was a gift and the activation code was paid at the time of purchase. It's CASH. The manager came over and explained that Visa takes 20% of the total off the card for the tip, etc and for that reason they don't accept them. Ridiculous. So why couldn't they use $80 from the card, knowing that we were good for the rest of the funds? no explanation. The manager did in all fairness comp us for dessert but we wound up paying out of pocket, which defeats the purpose of using gift card. When I asked what would happen if we had no cash she oh, we've never encountered that. Let's hope they don't. Or someone will be doing dishes. It just seems unreasonable. To top it off I called earlier in the day to confirm that they did take VISA GIFT CARDS. Phone was answered by a young man who said yes, we do, see phone screenshot. That didn't matter to management either. Finally, La Stalla doesn't include anything on their website about not taking these type of gift cards. BUT, the quality is beyond compare. Delicious and authentic Italian food, high quality ingredients, a beautiful atmosphere, skilled and experienced servers and chefs. Mark (family owner) and Roe are family friends. We always feel at home here, but even if you are a stranger to Newtown you will feel the same vibes. Our favorite items are: * Chicken (mine), Veal or Eggplant Parmigiana with Linguine or Angel Hair * My ex got the Carbonara and said it was amazing and he's a chef * ALWAYS start with fried calamari with extra lemon and their delicious red sauce * Linguine con Vongole (clams) is great too! * Farfelle e gamberi (Shrimp) with sweet grape tomatoes * Great wine selection too, not BYOB There's always room for dessert! The food was delicious. I have a gluten allergy and I went there for a six course meal and nothing made me sick. I had salmon, strip steak, calms, shrimp , veal Parmesan, and some other stuff all delicious. The service was great the waiter let me know what was gluten free. I have been to La Stalla many times, always had really good food. Today I ordered via door dash. My salad was literally romaine lettuce, 3 slices of radish. 1, yes 1 piece piece of green pepper 4 pieces of cucumber, and a little gorgonzola cheese. I ordered chicken soup, it was all tasteless broth a few pieces of celery and 3 bite size pieces of dry white meat chicken. it was hard to even find a carrot. Wawa makes way better soup . Thank goodness I ordered a side of meatballs, they were fine. $15.00 for this salad and $10.00 for a cup of soup. Not worth it at all. read more

Had dinner tonight at LaStalla in Newtown. The place was pleasantly crowded and although noisy it is always a nice noise, if you know what I mean. Our server was very professional and knowledgeable about the menu and the specials. I was going to order something off the regular menu and when asked about one of the specials he let me know how good to was and that I could order off the menu anytime. Great salesmanship. So I did get the Halibut special and my son Ryan the Porterhouse steak special - both great choices. The server/waiter was spot on. For desert I got the chocolate moose, which was sinfully delicious. Was here for my aunt's surprise birthday party this past weekend and it was amazing! Love the decor and drinks! Food was served family style and it kept coming! Homemade pasta, mozzarella, amazing calamari and it goes on and on. No one left hungry! Staff were very courteous and accommodating for our large party and made sure we were well taken care of. Its Valentine Day and off to dinner we go after trying to find reservations over a week ago. We got in at La Stalla's and boy was i surprised. I love the old buildings converted into restaurants and this is definitely it. As soon as I walked in I noticed the old beams, concrete columns and a huge brick arch way showing the open kitchen. The hardwood floors squeak and the decor is perfect. After sitting down I looked the place up on Google and learned the establishment was a horse stable back in the day. Pretty cool. My girlfriend and I had the Filet Mignon 14 oz over a white creme sauce. The portion was excellent and the Filet was done to perfection. Afterwards we had a valentine pastry desert with a chocolate Martini. Of course dinner for two was $150 but im sure prices were set accordingly for the day. But I will admit for the portions and quality I would definitely dig into my pocket again for the meal. Go and enjoy, the decor - food and staff are excellent. read more

La Stalla is such a gem. We arrived here yesterday after visiting Crossing Vineyards for a wine tasting and it is so beautifully authentic. The décor on the inside makes you feel as if you're in a traditional wine cellar and the outdoor patio has such beautiful landscaping that it really transports you to a garden and you really do forget you're just off a busy road. I think what really makes this restaurant is the people. From the hostesses, to the servers and busers everyone was so pleasant. The food came out in a timely manner and they collected our cleaned plates (I could have licked them it was so good) swiftly when we were finished. Don't be detoured by the price point, although relatively high, you're paying for the experience which makes it completely worth it. My girlfriend and I recently moved into the neighborhood and have now eaten here a few times. The service is always top notch. From the time we are seated to the time we walk out the door. Prices are a tad higher than others in the area, but it's all relevant. You pay for what you get here. Tonight our server Adam was very knowledgeable about the menu and super friendly. Excellent service! This restaurant offers delish Italian dishes in a barn that's be rehabbed into a restaurant. The interior gives you a feeling that you've steeped back in time. The menu has a nice selection of appetizers, entrees and dessert. My favorite thing there was the lamb meatballs appetizer with ricotta. The creme brûlée was wonderful as well. My pasta with crab and walnut in a white wine sauce was only so so. The drink menu was expansive with a large selection of beers, wines and after dinner drinks. Something that is sure to keep you wondering.. now on to the food I'll keep it simple.. food was good. The truffle sacchetti could use a bit more truffle.. I mean if someone is ordering a dish with truffle we usually already love it and want that pop of flavor. Drinks are perfectly made and well balanced with enough alcohol to know it's a good drink. We got the calamari which was tender and simple. The bruschetta caprice could have been better but was tasty. Dessert however was a disappointment. Tiramisu was dry and lacking espresso and my poor creme brûlée was not so crunchy and the cream was like vanilla pudding that sat out to long.
