Before I booked my Uber from LAX to Monterey Park, Uber showed me an estimated total of $74.95, and I accepted the ride because I considered the price competitive. However, after the trip, I received the receipt and discovered the following breakdown: Trip Fare: $45.58 Booking Fee: $23.71 Other fees and surcharges The $23.71 Booking Fee alone was more than HALF of the actual Trip Fare. I found this UNNUSUALLY high and UNREASONABLE from a customer's perspective. If Uber had clearly shown me this fee breakdown BEFORE I confirmed the ride, I might have chosen another transportation option or made a different decision about tipping the driver. I contacted Uber Support and asked only one simple question: Why was the Booking Fee $23.71? The support representative initially told me that my concern appeared to be a confusion regarding the Booking Fee and that it would be forwarded to a specialized team for review. However, the final response was simply "No Change." My specific question about why the Booking Fee was $23.71 was NEVER actually answered. Instead, I was only told that the total price matched the estimate shown before booking. Whether or not Uber is permitted to charge this fee under its pricing policy, a Booking Fee of $23.71 on a $45.58 trip fare is NOT transparent or reasonable from a customer's perspective. Customers deserve to understand how their money is being allocated BEFORE they confirm a ride, not only after the trip is completed. I have attached my receipt so other customers can see the actual fee breakdown for themselves and make their own informed decisions.
