Camarones A La Mexicana
Linda H.

Went on Saturday for dinner. We really wanted to try caldo de rez, but by 6:30 they were sold out. We ended up getting menudo and a shrimp plate. The food was so tasty. They had homemade tortillas that were soft and fresh! The shrimp was cooked deliciously and the menudo was nicely spicy and yummy. The restaurant itself is pretty small, and just felt really hot when we were inside, so you can dine in, but I feel it's mostly used for togo.

Concha y mantecado.

I dropped in for a concha and anything else that caught my eye. I like how they had small conchas bc I prefer them over the large ones. They didn't have a huge variety though. I only saw the white conchas. The other bread there looked overcooked, especially the croissants - they were brown and not that light gold color. They do sell food but idk... the cleanliness wasn't all there for me so I might have to skip on the food. I saw the cooks in the back preparing food without gloves and touching their faces/masks and getting back to touching the food bare handed. The concha I got was good though! The mantecado wasn't as good, mostly dry and over baked. Try it out for yourself and be the judge. I read a lot of great reviews so I'm thinking I went during an off-day

Camarones A La Diabla (half eaten)

You know it's good when your a foodie but forget to take a picture first! This place is always packed and for good reason no matter what you get it's tasty. I personally love the pastor quesadilla and Camarones a La diabla if you like spicy and shrimp don't be afraid to go for it! A lot of there baked goods are fresh and delicious. I'm kinda a tres leches cake snob and this one was ranked 4 of 10 for me. The flavor wasn't bad but the top cake had no leche in it. I will try again maybe was just a off day but over all a great experience every time I go. Nice staff and tight seating but well worth it.

Oh my goodness! Such nice staff and you will be happy with anything you order off the menu. This place is an authentic gem! I got the chicken burrito (homemade tortilla, shredded chicken, beans, rice and cheese) and my friend got the chicken mole. Thank you!

Small hole in the wall. They have a great section of food and can even make things off the menu if you ask. Our personal favorite is Caldo de Res its very filling so you can either share or have leftovers. They also make homemade tortillas too! YUMMY Sometimes they do run out of certain item on weekends so go early Easy parking but shares with another Mexican restaurant and a laundry mat so at times it could be a little packed

Menudo

The menudo was amazing. Spicy but full of flavor. We also got about 10 pieces of pan dulce and they were also delicious, not dry, very soft and very fresh. Coffee was delicious too I was able to drink it black.

Menudo - the most flavorful, gnarly authentic in town. Delicious

Los Agaves On De Lavina St. -- A Rare Review from Someone Who Hates Writing Reviews…read moreI spent 25 years owning a business. I know what good service looks like, and I know what entitled looks like. I never write reviews -- I watched Yelp destroy good people over bad nights, and I swore I'd stay out of it. Tonight changed that. I sat at the bar. It took the bartender over five minutes to acknowledge I existed. Another five to ten to deliver a Coke. I ordered dinner and waited forty minutes -- which I might have forgiven, except getting his attention was nearly impossible the entire night. No eye contact. Body language that made clear I was an inconvenience, not a guest. Every interaction felt like I was interrupting something more important. When I finally got him to check on my order, he went to the computer and discovered he'd never placed it. I walked out. I noticed the people around me weren't faring much better. The slowness wasn't just my experience -- it was the room. Los Agaves appears to be a popular place, and maybe on another night with another bartender it earns that reputation. But entitlement has a way of spreading when nobody checks it. I hope management is paying attention -- because a beautiful restaurant dies one invisible guest at a time.

Back to table service! Yay!!!…read more Attractive and very clean restaurant with great service. Truly delicious Mexican food. I love pozole - Cc's rendition is top notch and comes with all the extras to put in the soup including avocado, chopped onion, a whole fried tortilla to break up into the broth and Mexican oregano (the small is more than enough for one hungry person or to share with two).Homemade chips come with a four salsa selection ranging substantially hot to a delicate tomatillo green. I tried my tablemate's tacos, all three varieties were very very good. I've had takeout from here, but it's really worth going in person because the food is nuanced and best when piping hot as it's made.

I just had a terrible experience at Corazon cocina…read more I ordered 3 tacos and was told it was $32.19 gave card and paid. Upon paying the screen says $33.07. I asked what the difference was for. Cashier says "taxes." I asked for a receipt and the receipt says .88 surcharge. Cashier then states "you complaining about 88 cents man?" Then he doesnt know how to give 88 cents back. He then starts to state something about something wrong with my credit card and pulls up a previous person's receipt. This other receipts clearly states "debit" card but still he doesnt understand and says my credit card has issues and to call my company. So the lady next to him hands me a $1 and says "here for the 88 cents" and ignores me. No salsa offered for my food.

The space smelled delicious and the girl taking my order was very nice and patient while I figured out what to get. I ended up getting a carne asada taco and a grilled fish taco. I also got their pomegranate mint drink. They have two rooms. We stayed in the one by the entrance where we ordered as the other room has a step down instead of a ramp. My child was sleeping in his stroller so logistically it made it easier to just stay in the first space. When I first got the items I staired at my Carne asada in confusion as it was just a sad pile of dry looking meat next to a very beautiful fish taco. My tired self didn't see the generous salsa bar filled with wonderful toppings. Alas it was like putting lipstick on a pig, as the meat almost was at jerky level. The fish taco while it looked amazing and the fish was fresh tasting, lacked the flavor explosion I was expecting. I appreciated the taste of the drink I got however it ran a bit sweet for my taste. Overall in an area with an amazing food scene it fell short for me, but at least filled me up.

We came here on a whim and everything about it was so enjoyable!…read more The service was good. Until we got seated, the service felt lukewarm, but our server, Joquin(?) made us feel so welcome! He gave us some great advice on what to order and we enjoyed every bit of it! There was also another gentleman that brought out the umbrella for us since it was getting sunny. We had a couple workers walk by without asking, but he was so kind enough to make us comfortable. The drinks we ordered were so refreshing. We ordered the Costa Blanca, De Aqui, and the Bengala de Granada. The drinks were so crisp that it almost felt like a palette cleanser. The yellowtail crudo was perfectly balanced between sweet and citrusy. The oysters looked spicy but were pleasantly mild! The octopus was tender and soft. The paella was flavorful and nicely garlicky. Loquita is small and cute. It's a little packed inside once it gets busy, so it was a relief we got seated outside.

We happened to come for dinner and were luckily seated without a reservation (highly recommend…read moremaking a reservation if you plan on coming). We were seated at the bar style seating where you get to see the kitchen, which I actually prefer since you get to see everyone work. // DRINKS // Ooo Mami: lalo tequila, mezcal, lemon, passionfruit, agave, orange bitters, umami. A little on the sweeter side, but pretty well balanced and fruit forward. 4/5 // FOOD // Patatas Bravas: yukon gold potatoes, pimentón emulsion, brava sauce, garlic aioli. This appetizer didn't stand out. It's your typical patatas bravas, but it wasn't as flavorful as I've had elsewhere. 3/5 Ensalada Invierno: roasted kale, baby beets, marcona almonds, orange supreme, coca bread, manchego foam. Very smoky! I was surprised how much the kale took on the smoke of the grill, but it was very different. 2/5 Mariscos: bomba rice, manila clams, jumbo prawns, grilled squid, squid ink, green peas, garlic aioli. The star of the show and absolutely delicious. It was so flavorful and the grilled squid was so tender and melt in your mouth delicious. 5/5 Overall, even though the starters were a miss for me, I would definitely come back for the paella and drinks again, and also to try a few of the other dishes.
