First this review is ignoring the language barrier variable that could have resulted in getting white wine instead of red.
Second, I feel bad because the people were all extremely sweet, as have been all of the locals in Sorrento thus far. BUT spending my hard earned dollars isn't easy so I will be honest.
I will also not rate on the fact that our server, who while very sweet but equally or more so green at her position, forgot to bring me my beer and water until 2/3 through the bread basket (which wasn't nearly as good as expected based on other reviews.. think slightly better than Francisco's store brand in the US). I will stick strictly to the food for this review and get to atmosphere later.
Over all say 2.5 stars based on food...
The bread was eh.. the house white wine(again we wanted red) was actually very enjoyable to my wife who normally doesn't like white but was too kind to notify the young server of her error.
I ordered a filet mignon with pepper sauce. It was decently tender and a tasty cut but a bit smaller than the waitress described. She mentioned it came with roasted potatoes but I received none. Again maybe language barrier and not factored in score. Not what I hoped for at 22€.
She suggested the chips (fries ) so i reluctantly agreed but should not have as they were clearly the frozen & fried version and not good for 4€.. to be fair.. I did not seek these out, she offered, and no I wasn't pretending to be at the Italian Sizzler, a steak just sounded good since a steak house was staring at us right after walking off the elevator from the porto after a wonderful day on Capri.
My wife ordered seafood pasta. She said the flavor was good, I guess the portion was fine at 13€ but don't expect more than a few Tiny shrimp, a handful of smaller clams and a half dozen or so mussels, she wasn't a huge fan of the pasta either, she described it as Starchy. The plate was littered with shell remnants so use caution eating and plan for gritty seafood.
There was live music, a young lady sang nice renditions of American pop songs but I hoped for a more Italian experience in Sorrento. When she wasn't performing to her synthesizer, the Doors played while MTV showed green day and other bands on the screen.
The layout was nice, place was clean, etc...but location is a little off the main strip and accessible by foot but down some streets that may have been creepy after dark (just atmosphere wise not dangerous based on our experience... ) walk a ways Down (we did on way back to our hotel) to take a more populated street if you think you want to eat here.
The greeter was a nice guy named Tony, he recognized us as American by voice and walked us to the door. He was local but lived in California near my area of North OC but Moved back here in the 90s. We shared some stories at the table, he did wait until after we finished our meal to come over, but while sweet, he lingered uncomfortably a little longer than you would think.
He asked us to come back tomorrow, sorry Tony, great people but aside from location, American catered experience and price, the food just wasn't good enough to bring me back. The best part of a meal shouldn't be the draft beer and the wrong wine.
Oh, free limoncello was given at end and it was ok compared to others we've sampled since we got here, very nice of them. read more
