We came here on a Saturday night without reservation and the hostess was truly kind and made room for us to enjoy a nice meal. We are so glad that we did because we had the meat fondue which was excellent and also the escargot. We've thoroughly enjoyed our meal here and the staff was really kind and the ambience was very fun and I could tell that a lot of locals like to come here with their friends and celebrate fun events while also welcoming tourist. We hopped over to La Taverne de Montmartre to try a raclette for the first time and it was wonderful! The raclette was very filling and spreading melted cheese by ourselves have been such a fun experience! We didn't have a reservation but they were kind enough to serve us anyway. Service was great too, btw! Staff was very friendly. FYI: if you want to order the raclette it must be between two people. So if one person wants to get the raclette, the other person has to do so as well. read more

We had been walking around Monmartre all morning and were starving. I was a bit worried that this place would be touristy, but the food was so good! The servers were very kind and helpful, they brought out some pretzels for us to snack on before our meals. My mother got the special of the day- a quiche with vegetables and goat cheese. I've never liked quiche before (I'm not a fan of eggs) but this was delicious! I was so surprised. I had a dish that was like something from a dream of Paris from when I was young- a wheel of camembert. A small, baked wheel of camembert with garlic and toasted bread, alongside fresh roasted vegetables and salad with that delightful dijon vinaigrette. It was a wonderful meal. Sister had mad cravings for cheese, and we decided that since we're in the land of cheesy goodness, why not have some fondue while we're at it? And yes, I realize that it was in the middle of summer and CRAZY HOT so we were indeed a little out of our minds. We hiked up half the summit of Montmartre for this restaurant, right when it was just opening for the night. The four of us ordered a set meal with avocado salad, beef bourguignon, and vanilla and chocolate ice cream, along with a cheese fondue mixed meat portion for two, and a creme brulee to share. The avocado salad came with slightly too much dressing, but was extremely generous! There was an entire avocado fanned out on a bed of greens. The beef bourguignon, however, was weak and awfully watery. It lacked any sort of rich beef flavour, and was way too salty for my tastes. That being said, the creme de la creme was the fondue! It consisted of ooey gooey goodness, and you could tell that they did NOT skimp out on cheese (the entire cheese set once the fire was distinguished). It was buttery, rich, and soooooo sinful. The meats and baguettes were delightful to eat when paired with the cheese, and the pickles helped offer a tangy palette cleanse inbetween bites. The flaming creme brulee was also amazing! They literally come and set the entire surface on fire, and the creme brulee is perfectly set. Not too sweet, but very dense and tasty! read more

This is a hole in the wall. The food was okay. Our son enjoyed the cheeseburger, my other son and I had the chicken which was okay. The meet which was suppose to be one of the tenderest pieces was a little chewy. All the plates came with salad and chips. How can a place be authentic on Montmartre without being touristy? Tricky. Right on the main drag up to the summit, this is a old style bench/fireplace/family owned special place with a bit of outdoor seating. They have great authentic cooking - if you want traditional French country cooking order the Onion Soup, Boeuf Bourgignon, and Chocolate Mousse. House wines are good and reasonably priced, and they have special bottles for a slightly higher price and quality. They have mixed platters for larger groups, and no rush. I had Boeuf Bourgigone twice on this trip, and this was the best - long simmered and delicious. I think the two owners are mom/pop and they were gracious, friendly, and great for recommendations. read more

When in Paris...we were walking around Montmarte, and it appeared many restaraunts were either closed or we may have been eating an early dinner compared to the locals. The restaraunt staff did not speak much English but that was not a problem. We ended up ordering bone marrow, escargot, and frog legs. We were looking for a place to eat after visiting Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur and we stumbled on this little family-owned gem! The food was delicious and a great price. This was one of the best meals we had the week we were in Paris. I had the French onion soup with flank steak and chocolate mousse, while my wife had the beef bourguignon and creme brulee. This place is great - my fiancé and I arrived exhausted and jet lagged and not speaking much french at all, but the hostess/waitress was very friendly, patient and accommodating. We ended up at a long table seated next to a very nice Italian family and ate delicious cheese fondue and fresh strawberry tarts for dessert. Walked down after visiting the basilica starving for food. Ordered the fondue, it was waaaaay too hot and burning. The French onion soup was cold and watery. Needless to say, we didn't finish our meal. I ended up just drinking wine. I think if I spoke French I would have received better service. I wouldn't recommend for a tourist. If you're looking for good food, don't come here. The grill combo comes on a platter for customers to cook for themselves - sounds like a fun Korean BBQ, until you see raw poultry in the mix and no separate serving/grilling utensils. You're expected to use your silverware ... can you say "Salmonella?" The steak was gray and chewy. I couldn't even identify the cut. The onion soup, duck and potato chips were quite good. We actually walked by this restaurant on Monday evening as we walked around Montmartre and all tables were full and people were having fondue and there was a fireplace. The place looked so cozy and inviting but there were no tables open. (Very small place) I just couldn't stop thinking about it so we went exploring again to try and find it. We found it again but it was closed the 2 days were were there (Weds and Thurs) so we missed out :-( I will definitely make a point of going here next time we visit. read more

We came here for dinner after spending time walking around Sacre Coeur and Montmartre. There was quite a wait and the male server who acknowledged seemed somewhat rude when he told us to wait outside the door. About 20 minutes went by and they finally seated us at a very crowded table wedged between the service area and the kitchen. No doubt it was the worst table in the restaurant but we didn't want to wait any longer for another option. I think the lady who served us was actually the owner and she was much nicer than the gentleman who greeted us. Our food was quite good, portions were generous. We would definitely have enjoyed the experience more had we had better seating. This is a small and cramped restaurant; they have long bench style seating so expect to share a table with others if your party is small. read more

I thought it was too good to be true, non-touristy, delicious food, near Sacre Coeur. And I was right. Our table of four ordered the fondue. We were given 8 fondue forks, 6 of which covered in food. It's foolish to serve flaming food in such a small restaurant but we survived. The fondue was greasy but edible and came with a few slices of salami and small basket of bread. More bread was offered but it took 10 minutes to flag down a server. During this wait the fondue got way too hot but there was no way to turn down/off the heat. When we mentioned this to the waiter, this was somehow our fault. The third tiny basket of bread was hard as a rock, which the waiter told us was exactly as they intended. This was our most expensive meal of vacation and by far the worst. Neighboring tables did not appear to have significantly better food. read more

Last dinner in Paris and this place was awesome! You feel like you're underground and while it's not the most comfortable seating, it goes with the vibe. The women working there were extremely friendly and helped my friend and I decide on what to order. We got a nice bottle of wine and shared an app that was similar to a quiche. I then got a nice big bowl of cheese and potatoes with a side salad. It was delicious. So many vegetarian options and no shortage of cheeses. We found this place through Yelp recommendation. It had 4 out of 5 stars. We were greated very nicely and it seems that the son of the owner was the one serving us. He was very pleasent. We selected the three course menu. The taste of food was plane and its apperiance not inviting. The selection of ingredients was inadequate and poor. Couldn't taste wine in beef bourguignon and it was watery as well as it was the onion soup. For tagliatelle the cheese was not parmigiano but some cheep selection. Also there was no serving ethiquette. The waiter was flipping pancakes with hands that he used later to write our order down. Also brought us water bottle by holding it for the pouring area. The plates were greasy. Although the food was edible I wouldn't recommend this place unless you are really hungry and maybe select something different from the menu. read more

We tried to make reservations but when we called we were told they do not take reservations. Half of our party arrived but were made to wait for the rest of the party before we could be seated. Unfortunately the other half were late. There is a small dining room so we were a bit worried that they wouldn't have room for us. Stumbled in on this place on a trip to Paris years ago and haven't been able to forget their bolognese since! Some of the best food I've ever had and the ambiance is second to none. La Taverne caught my eye on a casual walk through the street and I was so surprised to find what lay beyond those doors! There's a flight of stairs leading down to a cave type bar lol a Taverne if you will lol. It's just too perfect and iconic a Parisian setting to be real! It looks like something out of a movie. They have long wooden tables so you're seated elbow to elbow with fellow patrons. I conversed with everyone around and, before the entrees even came, it felt like a big gathering of friends. It's centrally located at the base of the sacre ceur. (The trek up the hill is worthwhile since there's a beautiful view and picturesque shops and dining up there, but...) a stop at la Taverne is a must do whether you're in the area or not. It will be on my top 3 anytime I'm in Paris from now on! read more

I am not really into the tourist trap restaurants, so we stumbled into this quiet restaurant which clearly advertised the fondue. Let me tell you, the cheese fondue was heaven and they did not skimp on the amount of meats and breads offered for dipping. When we go to Paris again this year we will definitely return. Very near to Sacre Coeur but not overly pricey. At dinner we got set menus for 21.50 and 14.50. In the 21.50 set we had escargot, pierrade and ile flottante. In the 14.50 set we had onion soup, steak with fries and lemon sorbet in vodka. Worth the cost and really good food. The service was friendly and personal and they made an effort to have conversations with us. Definitely a good place to go in the evening after a visit to the Sacre Coeur. Came to Montmartre and tried to get a table at Le Refuge des Fondues. It was packed there, so we walked past La Taverne and decided to go in. We sat outside and got borderline smashed while we ate fondue. I wasn't intending to drink as much as I did, but when the Ricard came out it was time to be a drunk American tourist on vacation. Just kidding, it was an amazing relaxing time enjoying some quality food. We met Lairan the owner and Seb, one of the server. They were both very nice people. The waitress was wonderful, she was very helpful in explaining things on the menu to guests and never seemed annoyed that they didn't speak French. We left a raucous room full of people singing and laughing... on a Monday. It has a great atmosphere and we had a wonderful server who was incredibly tolerant of our offensively terrible french.
