This was our first visit to La Tavola. It is really a nice place. Very relaxing atmosphere and very quiet dinner on a Thursday night. Our waitress, Faith was wonderful. Such a soft spoken and sweet young woman. She was great and very attentive. We tried the artichoke appetizer. It was very good, soft and the sauce was amazing. They have veal piccata on the menu and I requested chicken instead of veal. They were happy to do it. It was a great dinner! My husband tried the pasta with white clam sauce. He loved it! We will definitely be back to try one of the other great items on the menu. I'm interested in trying the pizza for sure! read more

Our first visit here after looking for a restaurant in the area. It was highly recommended by people I know so we were optimistic. Maybe too optimistic. The restaurant and restrooms were clean and tastefully decorated and the staff was attentive and helpful. I just wish the food was better. I was hoping to be wowed but I wasn't. Not that it was bad it was just a tad a boring. When the warm focaccias came out with seasoned dipping oil I was hopeful. It was great. Followed by a very tasty appetizer of Portabella Romano. Fried portobello mushrooms over spinach and red peppers with strips of Mozzarella cheese. Very tasty! The tossed salads were average that followed. But the entrées fell flat. My veal piccata was not tender and was simply veal medallions with capers on the plate. Not much lemon flavour came through. My friend had eggplant parmigiana which was huge and she thought it was good. My other friend had fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. She said the noodles were homemade. My side dish of penne with marinara sauce was delicious. Maybe I'm too critical because I was told it was fantastic. But 3 stars is based on the food. read more

This is the worst Italian place they gave me frickin mayonnaise with my Caesar salad and the veal parm was still half frozen!!! And the vodka sauce isn't even vodka sauce and all that was $70!!! If you want bad frozen Italian food that is expensive come here!!! read more

Stopped in for dinner while staying a few nights in New Stanton on an adventure. Found it on yelp and asked the desk manager at the hotel about it. He confirmed the positive reviews. Not that busy when we arrived. Sign on the door requiring proper attire and "no hats"! Just a little confused as what proper attire is as they were many people there in shorts and tennis shoes. I really don't understand the no hats policy with some restaurants. We decided to sit in the lounge is it seem to be a little bit more joyful. After reviewing the multiple menus, my wife and I decided on adult beverages. My wife ordered a glass of Pinot noir, and I their Manhattan. The wine was delicious and they didn't know how to make a Manhattan! My wife decided on their personal pizza, which was actually about plate size cut in four slices. It was absolutely fresh and delicious! I decided on their Cajun shrimp. It was an interesting flavor combination of some Cajun spiced shrimp on a bed of sautéed spinach with some balsamic vinegar as well. It was fairly tasty and interesting! As we will be here a few days, there is a high probability we will visit again. read more

What a fabulous place ! Lovely atmosphere, terrific service , excellent food!! Calamari was done perfectly , not chewy at all!! The chicken Marsala was delicious as was the special , which was a white fish with a lemon butter caper sauce! Caesar dressing tasted homemade which is a rarity and it was amazing !!! I had my two kids, three and 18 months, with me. They were getting hungry because the place we stopped at before didn't have enough waitstaff to get food to us. I looked up somewhere close and found La Tavola. Walking in I thought, "Uh oh, a little fancy for one guy with two little ones". But they were extremely welcoming and treated us as if we were family. The children's menu had spaghetti. My oldest loves spaghetti, but what about those white tablecloths? Our waitress said that they send them out to get washed every night and there is nothing my daughter could do that hadn't been done before. Ok then, spaghetti and a meatball for my daughter and chicken fingers for my son. They were very pleased with the choices. My daughter loved trying to twirl her spaghetti. I had the antipasto salad. You can tell they don't skimp on the premium ingredients. I still remember how good the provolone cheese was. Next time I'm in the area I will return. read more

This place is very unassuming. Especially for Italian in New Stanton. We have lived in the area over 30 years and can't believe I have never offered my review of it. All that being said, it is as authentic as it gets for here or anywhere for that matter. Everything we have ever tried has been amazing including the evening specials! Our favorites include, Portabella Romano appetizer, chicken Camilla, anything with veal (as the veal is the best we have had anywhere) and we can't leave out their pizza. It does take about 30 minutes to make the pizza but sooo worth the wait! Those are just a few of our favs but Everything we have ever tried has been wonderful. Lou the owner likes to come out of the kitchen every so often and interact with his customers to make their meal is what they expected which is great. We love his Virginia Spots, he had some excellent wines when we were there and he and his family and staff is delightful. The restaurant is spacious and offers an extensive menu with all your Italian favorites. The restaurant is rather expensive and not worth its price entirely. Portions are large, but unless you order some special seafood or meats, it doesn't warrant its price. We had a great time and did enjoy our dinner though. I ordered an imported spaghetti with meat sauce and sampled their fried calamari. Bread was provided too. Altogether, we had a great experience. Give this place a try. Not happy. My husband & kids thought to take me there for my birthday as we just move out towards New Stanton. Service was horrible and the food wasn't much better. The female server never greeted us, approached the table and simply asked us what we want to drink. It being my birthday it was disappointing. She never came back to check on us as well. The sauce had rosemary in it, tasted like a jar sauce that they added some spice to. Way too much money for mediocre food and poor service. I drove by this restaurant a few weeks ago while working and made a note of it.Came home and read the menu and the reviews and we felt we wanted to try eating here.I will start by saying, I am Italian and lived near Boston's Italian section most of my life, so I am familiar with this type dining. As soon as you walk in, the Italian music is playing in the background and the whole place smelled like our grandparents homes when we were growing up. Our waitress was a young lady named Bianca and this lady knew the menu quite well and was able to answer any questions we had. My wife ordered the Chicken Marsala and I ordered the Veal Saltimbocca. My veal dish was 6 veal medallions with proscuitta and Mozzarella over them and it was served with mushrooms added also..This meal rivaled any I've ever eaten and the portion size was so big, I ended up taking almost 1/2 of it home with me. I tried my wifes dish also and it tasted so good, I almost wanted to trade dinners with her. Although this was our 1st time here, it won't be our last. read more

I've been to this restaurant twice now, once for dinner with my boyfriend and once for a business lunch. For dinner-My boyfriend and I ordered their shrimp appetizer which was extremely fishy and smelled like it had gone bad a few days ago. We didn't finish this. I ordered a chicken dish and he ordered a steak item. Both came out as some meat pounded out and covered in a sauce. We soon realized after looking at other customer's dinners that pretty much everything looked like some slab of meat covered in some sauce. We finished eating dinner around 9pm and even though their posted hours are until 11pm, they were cleaning up around us! We felt as if we were being pushed out the door after we just spend a large amount of money for food that tasted terrible. I went back again a few months later when my co-workers had planned a business lunch. My one co-worker ordered a tuna salad rare, and it came out about medium to medium-well. I ordered a club sandwich (how hard can that be?) to find out that the mayo I requested wasn't there and the bacon was burnt. My other co-worker ordered chicken parmigiana which looked like a frozen chicken patty covered in some jar spaghetti sauce. The service was crappy both times. The food was crappy both times. The food was way over-priced for the quality both times. I would not recommend. read more

We made a same-day reservation here for a party of 16. Unbelievably they were able to accommodate us, and they even let us use their special event room located to the right upon entering. This was a very nice courtesy that they extended us. The ambience was very nice and pleasing, and I think everyone in our group was content. I believe the restaurant was striving to present themselves as a somewhat upscale restaurant (for the area) while still feeling warm and familiar. As I felt very comfortable here, I think they succeeded in this respect. I ordered the Seafood Capri and opted for the Italian wedding soup in lieu of the house salad. The service was fairly slow and uneven with me receiving my soup well after everyone else at my table had received and begun eating their salads. The soup was surprisingly disappointing. It tasted distinctly sour. Culinarily this is perplexing, as none of the traditional ingredients in a wedding soup is sour. It is always said that a chef should be judged by the quality of his soup, and this has proven to hold true once again. Now the Seafood Capri entree consists of fettuccine noodles with a lobster sauce and a nice selection of seafood including shrimp, scallops, and lump crab. The presentation was uneven with all of the seafood clustered to one side of the dish. And most unfortunately, the crab was not sufficiently cleaned as I tasted a little bit of sand in the dish and also encountered a small shell fragment. The shrimp was slightly overcooked, but the sauce and noodles were very nice. Overall the meal was disappointing and amateurish for me. However, many others did enjoy their meal and had a good time. Perhaps I was just misfortunate -- but really sand? that would be career-ending in New York. The wine selection was not bad with many inexpensive bottles to choose from with several appropriately being from Italy. This place is probably nice for lunch, but I would probably go else where for dinner. Nino's for example would be a nice choice that is comparable. read more

This place is a hidden treasure! The chef is amazing and will come out and interact with his customers. He will even customize a dish if it's possible. We like a certain veal special that isn't always on the menu and he gladly accommodates. The shrimp Pescatore appetizer special is delicious! Owner is a nasty, rude women. We were traveling from Lancaster, PA to Los Angeles, California. We stopped on the side of the road by the restaurant to eat some sandwiches and to stretch. We came into the restaurant to order 2 beers and use the restrooms. Before even letting us speak, she loudly said "public restrooms only! I saw you eating outside!" She had a rude, nasty, horrible attitude and completely judged us before giving us a chance to utter one word. Not to mention, there were other guests waiting and it was quite embarrassing. A friend took me to lunch at La Tavola. It was so terrific that I made the 40 mile drive to go to dinner last week. Absolutely fabulous. Old style dining, unlike today's loud and crowded restaurants. Service was excellent, and the food was incredible. Salad was good quality. Flatbread was fresh and tasted homemade. I had pasta & chicken. So so tasty. The wife had Marsala. I think the food and service here is good. Really good compared to most restaurants in the area. I had the wedding soup (good but luke warm which I think was a fluke) and the Virginia Spots (good, but luke warm which I also think was a fluke). I would come back here for sure when I'm in the area. The portions are huge. I really think this place could benefit from reducing portions and lowering the price. I live in DC and can get seafood dishes of equal quality for less. My fiance and mother split the chicken parmesan and still took food home. Most people don't need that much food. read more

I was introduced to La Tavola by my b\f. His job goes here for business meetings & they have always had good food and service. My personal experience here has been overall, really good. I wouldn't give it 5 stars due to the fact that the service here could be a little quicker. My taking at this restaurant is that the owner is the main chef. Each time I have been here he has gone to many of the tables to see how everything was & even makes some of the desserts right by your table side. This is another place where I tend to order the same thing each time. Like another reviewer, I order the Seafood Capri. It has always been made to perfection, although, I feel the pasta portion has gotten smaller since the first time I went. I think this dinner was around $22. Upon arrival, you are give bread and parmesan cheese to dip in olive oil, and a salad is served before your meal. I always look forward going here, and never leave w\ out ordering cannolis, they are the best!! read more

The best Italian meal we have ever had outside Italy-- Lou cooked Pasta Putanesca by special request and it was soooooooo savory- then we also had sauteed calamari w/ a Provencal sauce that made my wife and I just stare at each other after our first bite. Calamari that almost melts in your mouth is a rarity but they did it and the sauce took me back to snapper soup from Philly for its robust flavor. Oh yes, we then marveled over a limoncello cake that brought back all our favorite nights in Sienna and Milan. Renee was our wonderful waitress who let us savor every bite and never rushed us yet was friendly and attentive -- we tried to get Italian native Lou to pack up the whole operation up and take it back to NW Indiana but he must be happy in those great mountains!!! read more
