An unexpected gem on our drive from NC to Atlanta. La Vaca has excellent food from several Latin American cuisines made with fresh ingredients and generous portions. My shrimp tostada was piled with marinated chunks of shrimp and garnished with pickled onions and avocado slices. The chicken soup was also outstanding. Went for lunch on a Saturday with a group of 7--four adults, a teen, and two children--and had an absolutely fantastic experience! I ordered the Shrimp Chimichanga dish, and it was amazing! It came with rice, beans, and a salad, and every bite was perfection. I also tried a side of pupusa, and wow--it was just as delicious! The dipping sauces were the perfect complement. Everyone in our group raved about their meals, from the adults to the kids, which says a lot! Even the iced tea stood out--it wasn't overly sweet, just perfectly refreshing. The prices were great, the service was excellent, and the entire experience was simply wonderful. Hands down, the best Mexican restaurant I've been to in a long time. It was my first time here and I wasn't too impressed with the service. Geronomo was my server. He was very kind, but not as attentive as I hoped. My food came out wrong, twice. I ordered the Pollo alla vaca (hope I spelled that right) without chorizo and tomato and it came out with chorizo. When I mentioned it, and it was noticeable, he almost kept calling the ground chorizo, chicken. It clearly wasn't chicken. He had to confirm with the kitchen if it was chorizo and it was. How does someone work here and not know the difference? The second time it came out, it came out with mushrooms, which wasn't even listed on the menu for the Pollo alla vaca. I also ordered a small side of guacamole and was brought/charged for a large. I wish Geronomo could've confirmed the portion, as I was dining alone. These inconsistencies add up. The lack of efficiency with the kitchen and Geronomo really stood out. I made sure to be kind the entire time because mistakes happen. However, I did not see Geronomo for the rest of my visit here, which was disappointing. I saw him working on sidework instead. I felt ignored and maybe he knew that my food came out wrong both times. Instead two other ladies, who weren't my servers, took over. They brought me boxes and took my payment. No sign of Geronomo at the end. From one server to another, you should remember that GOOD service can almost always "recover" awkward situations like tonight. I hope this review can be taken seriously. read more

On top of that they already charge you for "tip" for a party of 9. Which in this case was not okay due to poor service. So check your receipts before adding "another" tip. Tried out La Vaca for lunch for their $1.50 taco Tuesday special. The service was great, our waitress was very nice and super attentive. Obviously we came for the cheap tacos but we ended up trying way more. Overall the food was great. The horchata was delicious (they have the best ice), the complimentary chips and salsa were warm and had the perfect amount of salt, the guac was very fresh and the tacos were good. I ordered the chicken tacos with no cilantro and onion and instead topped mine with the rice, beans, salsa and guac. We didn't care for the cheese dip much. It had a mayonnaise-like taste to it that was off putting. Note: I didn't see any of the sides or prices listed on their menu. I had to ask the waitress if they had queso, guacamole, rice and beans etc and went in blind with the pricing. Thankfully they were reasonably priced $5 and under. I think they should add those options to the menu to make it clear they offer those additions. Also didn't see any desserts on the menu. I was so full but if you tempt me with a churro I'd definitely eat one or two. Overall we spent about $40. 2 chicken tacos, rice, beans, queso, guac, 1 horchata and 1 order of the taquitos. After seeing lots of hype, we decided to give La Vaca a try, and we were not disappointed! From fire music choice to fiery sauce, it was a great choice to celebrate our marriage proposal anniversary! Sodas are sold by the can, or they have Jarritos in bottles and homemade drink options. And, they have that good crunchy ice! I ordered the Quesabirria tacos and they were served with beef consommé, chopped onions and cilantro. DELICIOUS! The meat was tender, well cooked, seasoned, and just good eats. The rice was well cooked and flavorful, as well as the refried beans. The salsa isn't chunky, but very flavorful and mild as far as spice level. My husband got the combination fajitas and really enjoyed them. He chose the flour tortillas and they were good as well. The guacamole was made fresh to order and was very good. We really liked the chips as they were thick and crunchy, and not salty. The salsas bright with the meal was a salsa verde -mild, and what I believe is a habanero sauce-spicy, but flavorful. They also had Texas Pete and Valentino on the tables. I will definitely be back...probably tomorrow, because they do $1.49 Taco Tuesday! The server was great! Kind and attentive! I've been here three times for Taco Tuesday. The waitresses are really nice and generally on the ball. They are not all native English speakers, but if you're a little bit patient with them, it's all good. Free chips with salsa is good, but the salsa is very thin and watery, but it's free. The guacamole is good, but not great. I like mine well seasoned with lots of onion, tomato, jalapeño and a little garlic; theirs is more mild. The large serving of guacamole is only $2 more than the small, so if you like guacamole, go for the large. Speaking of seasoning, this is my real problem with this place. On my first visit here, the tacos were blandly seasoned and kind of skimpy. On my second visit, the tacos were well seasoned - delicious, and nice and full. On my third visit, they were kind of bland again, but with a good amount of filling. I'd like to try the regular menu, but if they can't make the tacos consistently good, I'm not sure I want to risk $75 on dinner for 3. I hope the restaurant realizes that low priced tacos on Tuesday are a great way to get people in the restaurant, but if the tacos aren't that good, people will only come for the tacos and not for the rest of the menu. read more
