I opted for a California burrito with asada, this hit the spot. Not only was the burrito well wrapped but it was very savory and filled to where it left me full. The place is a counter service restaurant with a bar as well so you can go and order your food first then order your beer/cocktails of choice. They also have a salsa bar but chips are extra. The restaurant is slightly noisy and can probably fill fast during peak hours. Overall I would come back, definitely highlight to my Charlotte trip! read more

I was in the mood to try and possibly find a new gem in the city and saw this place. The pics looked good and the reviews seemed to be good as well. This place gets one star from me. The food was extremely mediocre in taste and portions. I ordered the two-taco combo plate that comes with two sides. I chose Mexican Rice & Refried Beans as my side and the tacos I chose were Birria. Let's start there. There is no option to order anything other but the same two tacos so for example, I wanted to order one chicken and one birria or one shrimp taco and one birria taco, that option was not available. Most places allow you to customize your taco orders. I arrived to pick up my food and noticed the bag was NOTICEABLY light...which is a stark contrast to when I order this same kind of meal from my regular go to taco spots. I get home and start taking the food out of the bag and the taco presentation was good. They looked good and had pretty much what you would expect to be on them. I then go to open the containers that had my sides and noticed that the containers barely had any sides in them. I'm talking about the containers were less than half full of the rice and beans...to where it looks like they only put a couple of spoonfuls in each container. Which explains why the bag was so light. The rice looked like the typical Mexican rice and smelled about the same. It tasted very average, nothing special. The refried beans however, had no texture to them and looked like someone just put all the beans into a blender and turned them into a thick paste of some sort. They were completely flavorless and also didn't have the layer of cheese on top on them that most authentic places put on there. The three tacos were also very flavorless. The meats had absolutely NO flavor to them which is crazy for a birria taco. They were full enough with meat, salsa, onions, etc. but the meat had very little seasoning. I also found two VERY hard and sharp pieces of BONE in one of my birria tacos. I have braces and thought one of my back brackets had come loose. Imagine my surprise when I spit everything out and saw a decent chuck of bone shard. I set i aside and took another bit of ended up with yet another piece, albeit smaller, of shard in my mouth. As someone who moved here from Los Angeles and prior to that lived in Texas, this place just doesn't cut it for tacos. Not even for a chain restaurant quality of tacos. It's just like so many of these trendy restaurants popping up all over Charlotte with mediocre food trying to make a quick buck before it's eventually shut down for whatever reason . I'll be sticking to my two go to places which are very authentic taco spots where I have NEVER been disappointed. They are little pricier, but quantity and quality are worth it at this point. I have attached pics and you can see the pathetic amount of rice and beans that they gave me in that entire container, smh. You can see it from the top view and the side view where you can see the shadow lines of how full the containers were. For comparison, the container was about the size of a medium Mac N Cheese from Chick-fil-A. Rice and beans are literally the CHEAPEST items to acquire and add to meals so being stingy with them is a really bad look. read more

Okay, let me just say the process to order was a bit of a pain. You can only order online and they do not answer the phone when you call - I actually think the line just rings busy. Then when we went to pick up the food, we had to go to the salsa bar to fill all of the cups up on our own. I would love if they could have some pre-filled for to-go orders. Despite all that, the food was fresh and delicious with generous portions. Our group got tacos, bowls, and even the loaded fries. We were all extremely satisfied and the food was ready quickly. I also appreciate that when we ordered one of the bowls for our vegan counterpart that had no meat on it, they waited to confirm with us that we did not want any meat. Tried arbol, casera, y guacamole. They are okay fair for the price; they have a pseudo-brewery-industrial-floral mix for decor which gives it a blend of fonda and modern vibe. And for that aesthetic and price point, I'd put them in the same category of hispanic-food market as Que Fresa. The extra star goes to Que Fresa due to their more tender meat with higher flavor on the meat alone. We appreciated that they do have a parking lot with ample parking and the restaurant is set up in a fast casual style where you seat yourself, go to the counter to order and they will call your number where you can pick up your food. I got the chilie relleno burrito and it didn't say on the menu that it was a wet burrito and therefore it's covered in a spicy sauce, cheese and sour cream. I do not like eating wet burritos. This place is super casual and right off Freedom Dr. You'll have to order at a counter - and pick up at a designated section just by the kitchen (so no servers waiting on tables). The absolute highlight to me of their menu is the Ceviche. It's arguably the best ceviche I've EVER had, anywhere. The seafood is fresh, flavorful and in my opinion a healthy option if you're conscious of that. It comes with avocado on top, a side of mayo and the most delicious, large tortilla chips in existence. 1000/10 recommended. I've had it more than 5x at this point and it's always been consistent. In regard to their tacos, all of which are authentic to the culture: Carnitas: 10/10 Pastor: 9/10 Lengua: 8/10 Finally, try their elote - it's YUMMY and a perfect side dish to try. Cool to try a new place. We ordered one of every taco meat option (7 tacos total) and tried the chips, queso and salsa. We ordered two Tecates (cheapest beer on the menu) and finished with their strawberry shortcake tres leches. I would say for what we got, it was fairly expensive, the tacos were street tacos, so they were small and although they were good, there's a few other places to get better authentic tacos for less $. It's a quick service place, which we were expecting, but that's fine to order and pick up our own food. They have a salsa bar that had some good hot sauces, but we were a bit annoyed that when we ordered we were told if we wanted to try the salsa with our order of queso, we had to order the chips and salsa and then an order of the queso but the salsa was there at the salsa bar. The burrito comes with your choice of meat (no additional cost for carne asada). The salsa on this burrito has some spice to it as well which tasted great. What I did notice was that the fries to steak ratio was off.. there were so many fries! Although delicious, I wish there had been more steak. The homemade tortilla was great and kept everything neat and clean as a vessel for eating. Ordering online was easy and the staff were friendly during my pick up.
