Normally chicken can be kind of boring but this chicken is so tender and has a nice smoke flavor. The brisket was fall apart and tender with the same smoke flavor as the chicken. We have also tried the ribs and burnt ends, while they are not my preferred meat, they still melt in your mouth and the flavor is amazing. Cute little spot, oodles of potential! Vivian meets you personally. Food is homemade and it shows. While the Mac and cheese isn't the same as mine, if definitely scratches the itch when you don't want to make a whole pan at home. It's the closest you will find to baked 9x13. If I could give this place a 6 star rating I would. Such a cozy restaurant in the heart of Lovejoy with owners who truly care about their customers. Alex recommended the "stretchmark" sandwich in his review so that's what I ordered. Delicious brisket, flavorful Mac and cheese and crisp apple kale slaw topped this wonderful sandwich. The only question was how to eat this masterpiece, I approached it by forkfuls of the filling until I could manage to pick it up and eat it bite by bite. Everyone else in my party couldn't stop raving about their food too! I bought some delicious apple cobbler to take home with me (of course we all tried a bite in the restaurant but we were all very full so it made for a great "breakfast of champions " the next day). Enjoyed the Father's day dinner that La Verdad offered and it was awesome! the beef ribs were super tender, the chicken was smoky and flavorful and the Gouda Mac and cheese was reediculous! Loved the baked beans but probably could've used a little gravy for the mashed potatoes. I have a mild allergy to apples, but I tried the kale apple slaw and it was tasty as well. I just couldn't eat it. The chocolate cake was super moist and rich and will go great later with huge glass of milk. Walked in and Vivian Robinson came out to welcome us with big hugs and hot cider saying "First time here?" Her husband Pastor Al Robinson does the smoking and pastors their East Side church. La Verdad means truth in Spanish and they are filled with the Holy Spirit and exude a joy for life. It comes out in their hospitality and their food! Thank you Alex for putting these guys on the map for those of us who never knew about them! Talk about a hidden gem! Upon entering the restaurant we were greeted with kindness by the hostess. There was a welcome Yelp elite sign right in front. There was lovely jazz music playing and the decor was great! I felt like I was on the set of Harlem Nights! :-D I had the brisket slider with chips for my Yelp elite selection. I also ordered a side of their Mac n cheese which was to die for! My husband had the brisket with mash potatoes, and the apple cole slaw. The owner was such a sweetheart she even threw in some burnt ends for my husband no charge. I have to say I was almost in tears because the food tasted just like my mommas! Lol this is for sure our go to spot whenever we are craving some delicious BBQ! Today was my first time ordering with friends for lunch. The food is amazing!! I had the Stretchmark Brisket Sandwich. I got the Slaw in the side. The sandwich was incredible. I didn't care for the slaw, but that's because I don't like raw, red onion. If you like that, you will like the slaw. What really stood out to me was the young woman that I spoke to on the phone. She was the most kind person that I have ever ordered anything from. My friends got a garbage truck and a veggie bowl. Both said that they were outstanding. This past Saturday, my husband and I were traveling from Erie to Syracuse, and decided to stop in Buffalo for lunch. Not wanting a chain restaurant, nor too far off of I-90, I pulled up the Yelp app and found La Verdad Cafe with five stars. A quick search on the map found that it was only about two miles off of the highway. What a wonderful experience! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was above anything we've experienced in a long time. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with such kindness from the woman taking our order (and explaining the menu and process to us), to the woman bringing our beverages and food, to even the owner coming by to talk to us. First off, the people who work here were very friendly. Stopped in on a whim on a Saturday afternoon after being nearby and looking on Yelp for a nearby spot for some lunch. Wow! My son and I are so glad we stopped by. They had a board menu with a few items available that day. The chef also said that she could make us some burnt ends tacos if we wanted. My son and I shared a pulled pork taco, a burnt ends taco and an order of shrimp and grits. Oh my, this was some of the best food I have ever eaten. The BBQ was amazing. Vivian truly has a hidden culinary treasure in the Lovejoy area of Buffalo, NY. She, the staff and the food (oh, the food!!!) make you feel like you're with long time friends sitting in your own dining room. Our waitress, Kayla was one of the best servers I've ever dealt with - friendly, personable, funny and spot on with details and making sure everything got ordered and done right. The food is the best BBQ I've had and I try it everywhere I go. The burnt ends and brisket were like melted, meaty butter in your mouth, tender and not over-smoked. The mashed potatoes are chunky mashed, over-the-top with cheesy comfort food flavor and goodness. We're told the secret ingredient is "love". Oh, yeah it is! The gouda mac n' cheese, another of my favorite foods was superb. Noodles weren't soggy soft like it can be sometimes - just another example of Vivian's wizardry in her kitchen. If you're a slaw fan, the apple kale slaw is a must-try. Don't be afraid of kale! It's chopped so fine you barely know it's there but adds some tooth to the sweet combination in this super veggie side dish. Rib night is Friday and if you want beef ribs, you have to call in a day or 2 ahead. I can't wait to try them! We will be back to this fabulous BBQ for sure - next time with friends. OMG!! This is the BEST authentic BBQ place around. I am extremely picky with my food (esp ribs). The were literally fall off the bone, smoked flavored, sauced goodness. The owners are 2 beautiful souls that I had the pleasure of meeting today. The warmth, love and passion for the food as well as the patrons, go beyond measure. I've been waiting a while to try La Verdad, and was very excited to do so today. I ordered the LaVa 3 which comes with 1/3 rack of ribs (which I believe is 4 ribs but I only got 3), 3 pieces of brisket, and 3 burnt ends. I also ordered a small jalapeño Mac and cheese and small apple crisp cobbler. The ribs were fantastic and were definitely the star of the show. They were perfectly smoked, had a good bark, and had a perfect amount of sauce. They were also huge- so I didn't care so much that I was missing one rib. I'd give the ribs an 8.6/10. Every BBQ place I go to, I always try the brisket. From the pictures I've seen here, it looks great. Unfortunately, the brisket fell pretty short for me. It was pretty dry and looked like it might have been a day or so old. Was disappointed but it still had good flavor. 7.2/10 The burnt ends were great! Good flavor and pretty tender. 8.0/10. The jalapeño Mac and cheese was okay; I'm not a huge Mac and cheese person to begin with so take this with a grain of salt. It had good chunks of pickled jalepeños which gave it a nice spice. The apple crisp cobbler was good! Nice cinnamon crumble on top. Seemed like it may have been canned apple pie filling but I'm not quite sure. Their customer service is absolutely fantastic and definitely plays into the 4 star review. Great staff who actually care about the food and service their putting out. My sides were baked beans and a soda. Wow, just WOW! I got my order to take-out and they nicely wrapped the large slider with aluminum foil to keep the slider contents in place safely during transport. The flavors inside the slider included savory, tangy, creamy, and sweet and the quality of the meat was so SO tender. I would ask for their secret ingredients, but I'm sure it was love and joy! This is easily the best barbecue I've had in Buffalo and some of the best food I've had period. A must stop if you are in the city. Call ahead for food because they sell out quickly and this spot is the definition of small business. The Mac and cheese was creamy and flavorful and extra cheesy and the kale slaw was amazing, and I normally don't like any slaw. The young woman who took my order on the phone was incredibly pleasant and helpful and took the extra time to answer my questions and I was greeted with a smile when I entered. I met the owner who asked if I had ever been and I told her it was my first time and it was our anniversary. She threw in a special treat for us! Amazing! I went with a friend for lunch and of course the kids fell asleep in the car on the way there. One of us ran in to grab a menu, then ran back in to order. They were incredibly nice and even ran the food out to the car for us once it was ready. The owner was on site and was interested to hear how we had heard of them and to thank us for our business with a handshake and a smile. We had quite a sampling of their food, from the stretch mark sandwich (brisket, mac and cheese, coleslaw on a soft bun) to the burnt ends rice bowl (yellow rice, peppers and onions, the burnt ends, and her secret sauce). They have a jalapeno mac and cheese or a smoked gouda mac and cheese, and you can pick which one you want on your sandwich. We had a side of the smoked gouda mac and cheese and it had so much cheese in it that it almost seemed equal ratio cheese to noodle! So good and creamy! The burnt ends rice bowl was my hands down favorite. The crispy, meaty, fatty burnt ends are truly a masterpiece. Add in the secret sauce, and wow. Just wow. Living in the south for almost 20 years, I've become quite the barbecue snob, I recently happened to stumble on this quaint, family oriented, and someone exclusive little barbecue joint in the Lovejoy neighborhood In Buffalo New York. I was thoroughly impressed, the barbecue was fantastic, one of the only places in the north that serves coleslaw on your pulled pork, which is true barbecue, and to top it off, they had two choices of mac & cheese to choose from to top off your sandwich. At first I was a little upset that I couldn't get my slaw and Mac on the side, but after I tried it on the pork sandwich, I was so happy that it was on the sandwich and not on the side. The taste mixed in with the pulled pork was absolutely incredible. I will definitely be making trips back there again.
