Really good drinks and appetizers here! We had Corn Fritters and Empanadillas (beef), both were delicious, but if I had to pick one over the other, the Empanadillas are an easy win. We had Mojitos too and they were good, made with fresh mint. The service was what you'd expect in a busy, tourist area; decent. The main reason to go is for the amazing view! I can't say it would be a regular visit if I were local, but it would certainly be a place I'd bring friends who came to visit.
This place got delicious Puerto Rican food. There is plenty of variety to choose from and the Mojitos are exceptional. Andrea Guzmán provided us with a welcoming and unforgettable experience. The ambiance is vivid and full of energy, there was music, there is outside seating and a rooftop terrace overlooking La Perla. We enjoyed the food and had a great time.
This restaurant was really good. And the view was awsome. We got seated at the top floor and had an overlook at the horizon and la Perla. It was a breezy and beautiful day. We stopped here for a quick bite and got sampled a few things. I ordered the chicharron de pescado with lemon and aioli sauce. It was fresh crispy hot and delicious! I tried the chicharron de pollo too. It came the same way hot fresh and delicious. The arroz mamposteao was really good. Might be my favorite kind of rice at the moment. For drinks i had the passion fruit mojito and the coco mojito. Both delicious and refreshing. I liked the coc one the best out of the two. Our server was very nice and attentive. Anything we needed she got for us. I would definitely come back.
This is a PR staple, however we didn't have the best experience. On a rainy day, this was the first bar we seen and we proceeded to grab some drinks which were on point. I think the empanadillas were okay, nothing special. I didn't know they had a rooftop and I would've preferred sitting up there more, I wish the server told us since there was barely any space downstairs. Their mojitos are great, we received a complimentary shot with star anise and it was fantastic. I don't think we ordered the right food. I do love the ambiance as it's a perfect view of Old San Juan and the water.
Service was good and pretty quick for a party of 12 while visiting Puerto Rico. Loved the food and the area. We could see the water from where we were seated. Ambience is very casual. We sat outside like on a balcony so it was pretty warm up there. I would definitely recommend and would come back again if in PR.
Our wait time last a few minutes, they were packed at the time we arrived. We were seated on the top floor next to the bar. Our waitress was very sweet and polite. As far as drinks the bartender was very good. The prices were reasonable and the food was nice. I tried the Maui Maui with plantain rice and a small salad. I absolutely love plantains so I wasn't opposed to trying it inside of rice. The rice was cooked perfectly, not overcooked or undercooked, at least it's important to me. I was craving a piña colada for the longest and I couldn't get enough on this trip. The mojitos weren't too strong but just right for a slight buzz.
One of the only places that were open on New Year's Day. We initially arrived and were told it would be an hour wait for 6 but it turned out being 2 hours. Again, they had a lot of people in line due to most of the other places being closed. It's very lively near the restaurant with live music happening right next door to see if you're sitting outside. The majority of the seating is on the second and third level. The food came out quickly and tasted good. Highlights were the mini beef empanadas, corn fritters, and then bone in wings.
Delicious food, wonderful service, and unbelievable view especially up on the third floor. Great place to spend the day for some drinks and a great time!
Top tier, quick service Puerto Rican dining. We stopped here on a recent visit to San Juan and it was absolutely worth it! The food did take a little while, but tasted super fresh. Overall, decently priced as well. We were here for a midday snack, but I have heard it is also a great after dinner party spot. Overall, must visit while in PR.

I like the place, And the vibe. We ordered shrimp in red sauce and gandules rice. Also an order of bacalaito. To me they were salty but tasty. My sis ordered rice and habichuela and the proportion rice to beans was off . Small amount of beans for the rice. The drinks were amazing Ive got a mix of Puerto Rican vodka with passion fruit and was real fruit not syrup. I do recommend this place and the bar tender was so helpful giving us advice on wha to get
I was hesitant to visit this restaurant, but it was one of the few spots that offered local cuisines and vegetarian options for one of my friends. The food was honestly overpriced for how mediocre it was. My salmon was good but the tostones lacked flavor, and my friend's vegetarian tacos were just random steamed veggies on a flour tortilla. The server wasn't very attentive and didn't come back to fill our waters. Honestly, the whole vibe of the restaurant felt tacky and just geared towards tourists. If you're fresh off your plane, have never been to Puerto Rico, and looking for a sit down lunch/dinner spot, skip La Verguenza and find a place with more flavorful options.
Such sites to see when I was seated on the top floor of this restaurant. Nice cool breeze w/beautiful scenic ocean views. Now let's talk about the food, I ordered the mini beef empanadillas(fried turnovers),croquetas de bacalao espanolas(Spanish cod fish croquettes), & arroz (rice)mamposteao. I really came here for the arroz mamposteao which they are famous for. It is a hearty & flavorful pr dish that is made by stir- frying leftover white rice & stewed beans(habichuelas guisadas). It is loaded w/ diced cooked ham,bacon,maduros(sweet fried plantains),peppers, & fresh cilantro. I was super psyched to try this dish for the 1st time! Andrea let us know the kitchen was backed up b/c it was super busy. I mean this place was packed so I know the food was going to be good & fresh to order. Let me tell you the mamposteao arroz (rice) was everything. Each bite had an assortment of all the ingredients. I was in heaven. I wish the cod fish croquettes had more actual fish. The empanadillas needed more meat as well. However, both were fresh,hot,crispy, & packed w/ flavor. I sampled the alcapurria de carne(fried mix of taro,green bananas,& ground beef) & chicharrones de pollo(fried boneless chicken breast). The alcapurria was so good I almost ordered my own but I was getting too full. The chicharrones de pollo had a crispy coat & when I bit into it I got juices oozing in my mouth. I truly recommend this restaurant! It is a must try if you're in Viejo San Juan(Old San Juan). read more

Got seated on the 2nd floor balcony; the view was beautiful with a great overlook of the ocean and historic surroundings with a cool ocean breeze. The flavorful "dirty rice" was one of my favorite sides with pieces of sweet plátano mixed throughout. The combination of savory rice and sweet platano was delicious. The alcapurrias were surprisingly fresh, clean, and didn't feel greasy. The chicharrón de pollo was nice and crispy, and the fried yuca was golden, crunchy, and satisfying. The mojitos and margaritas were refreshing. Between the food, drinks, and beautiful scenery, it was a great spot. read more

La Vergüenza quickly became our favorite spot in Puerto Rico, and it absolutely lived up to the recommendation from a local. In fact, we loved it so much that we visited three times during our trip, both during the day and at night, and even brought other people with us. The mojitos are a must. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any flavor. Every one we tried was delicious and refreshing. For food, the shrimp mofongo was the standout dish for me. One of my friends ordered the chicken mofongo and really enjoyed it as well. The fish sticks/tenders were also a hit with our group. As someone who eats gluten-free, I felt comfortable with the mofongo and the octopus salad, both of which were excellent options. What really made this place special was the atmosphere. The staff were fantastic, friendly, and fun. At one point, we were even dancing with them. The energy was always high, and the vibes were great every time we visited. It's definitely more of a bar-style restaurant, but I highly recommend it if you're looking for great drinks, good food, and a lively Puerto Rican experience. read more

With decent food and great drinks, La Verguenza is a great choice to stop for a snack or for dinner. Located right across from a little park that overlooks La Perla and the ocean, the view is scenic. We stopped at La Verguenza multiple times and service was good each time. Notably, hubby sampled rum punch in multiple restaurants across Old San Juan and declared La Verguenza' the best, "by a long shot." read more

The food is delicious! Well seasoned! Friendly servers. Extra tight, hole in the wall restaurant. Located in Old San Juan. This spot you will find locals and tourist all mixed together to enjoy local authentic cuisine. Definitely recommend this spot when you come visit! read more

This is a great place. The atmosphere is awesome with music and very friendly service. Great local beers, the only problem is plan on waiting a while for food. Took us almost an hour and almost missed our tour. The food was great, lots of local dishes. I loved the sweet plantains. read more
La Verguenza always seems to have a ton of people eating outside and on its rooftop patio. And why not? The ambiance here near and just after sunset is magical: the cool eastern breeze hits it just right, the view of the ocean is amazing, the twinkle lights are perfect, and the hustle and bustle of tourists and locals walking/running/cycling past is just enough to keep you occupied. Prices are perhaps a tiny bit steep, even for Old San Juan, but for this ambiance, it's worth it. The food was fine. Surely not the best I've ever had around here, but it's extremely rare to find a restaurant that excels in both food and ambiance. I had the fried pork, their supposed "signature dish," with a side of tostones. Again, it was all fine, I'd say a bit above average. They have an extensive drink menu, but I chose to just have water. Service was attentive and friendly. The bathrooms were surprisingly clean, although they required walking up a steep staircase to access. All in all, a very pleasant place to a meal, especially right around sunset! read more

Food I ordered the pork mofongo. I was worried the pork was going to feel heavy but it was well seasoned and paired with the onions it was a great bite. The onions had a nice acidity that balanced with the pork. The plantains were also pretty good compared to the other places I've tried. Service It was really good. She checked up on us at appropriate times and was prompt while taking our order. No complaints she did great. Ambiance We sat outside right across from the water. It was cooling and I enjoyed the nice scenery while eating. There is upstairs seating as well. read more

Seduced by a Social Media to try this place On vacation in search of good food in Puerto Rico, we reviewed social media and the other good sources and we came upon this video of the foodie influencer who recommended this place. They feed him the kankan (a super popular and large pork chop) that Puerto Rico is famous for serving her guests. Located in Old San Juan in a historical part of the city, the restaurant has beautiful views and looks over the ocean. We loved their drink, the music and the vibes. We waited downstairs until our table was ready, then they showed us to an upstairs section of the restaurant with a balcony view. We tried to order the famed Kanan but it was not available, in fact it might have ONLY been cooked specially for their famous guest. Instead we decided to order a fried food basket, it was good but could have used more seasoning. Once we were seated, and the food was served it felt like we were forgotten, it took us a while to get our check. It's a great place for drinks and local color, if that's what you are seeking. read more

Aside from the slow service at the start, La Verguenza was VERY good! I had their version of a pina colada, and it was very good. However, if you're expecting the traditional pina colada, I wouldn't recommend this one as it isn't even close! The fish tacos, fries, and yuca sticks were perfect. I could've had the fish tacos by themselves. Although there were only 2, they were huge! We sat outside on the second floor, and had great views. The weather was very nice that day, so it was perfect! I would definitely recommend and visit again! read more
We came here during a storm so it was a little hard to sit outside and eat. They did not have any spots inside for a bigger group. Workers were a little slow on service. So it was a little cold and wet while we ate which made it a little less enjoyable. The menu is large and has a lot of options that all sound very good. I ordered the sautéed chicken breast with garlic sauce. I really enjoyed it! Price seemed average ~$16. I also ordered a margarita and it was a little bit strong. Overall the food was good but I just wish the weather was better or they had an inside seat. read more

We had such a fun time here. We were walking by looking for food on Christmas Eve and this place was happening. All the beautiful salsa music was blaring and people were having a good time. We chatted with the locals and the waitress was really friendly. Their piña colada's are so good. I think we had three each plus our delicious food. We can't wait to go back. read more
