The Mofongo here was super Yum !! We had went ro so many places for Mofongo and this was to far the closest, The taste instantly took me back to childhood, reminding me of home-cooked meals and those familiar, nostalgic flavors you never forget!! A trendy, popular spot with great energy. They had live music, which really added to the vibe and made the experience even better. The staff were also great--attentive, friendly, and on top of things despite how busy it was. I ordered their piña colada and hands down, it was the best and tastiest piña colada I've ever had--smooth, perfectly balanced, and not overly sweet. Absolutely a must-order. For appetizers, I tried the alcapurria, which wasn't my favorite as it was a bit too salty for my taste. Raises Urbana was recommended to us by a tour guide as being one ofrestaurants near the piers, we thought we'd give it a try. It was really a mixed bag. It was very touristy, which being close to the piers you'd expect that. We both had the monfogo, my wife had the shrimp and I had the pork. Her's was pretty good and I'd recommend that. My pork was completely dried out and chewy. The drinks were great. I had a Cuba Libre and it was fantastic. This is a tourist joint, so don't expect high cuisine, but it was pleasant and the flavors (outside of my pork being overly dry) were great. read more

We just arrived to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We look up restaurants nearby and come across Raíces. We were captivated by the esthetics of the restaurant. We ordered drinks and all though they did not taste very strong of alcohol they were refreshing in the hot weather. On our second day we were told to not go to raíces as it was a tourist trap but we ENJOYED every single bite. The fish tacos were full of flavor and the fish was crispy. The chicken was bursting with flavors I've never had. BUT THE MOFONGO!!!! My mouth waters as I right this. We had it with shrimp and honestly it was the star of the meals. The flavors captured in this dish are indescribable. Portions are very big so we were happy That our airbnb had a microwave where we could heat it all up later and have it again. Raices was recommended by our guide on a kayaking tour. I tried the queso frita (fried cheese) appetizer, carne frita (fried pork chunks) in mofongo, and their house sangria. The fried cheese just wasn't for me. It was literally blocks of fried cheese but not breaded or anything. The fried pork was very salty and tough. I did not care for the mofongo; it wasn't flavored well. The sangria was very good! Oh well also had the mini empanadas and those were very good! We had a waitress in training and she was very nice. Her trainer was also great and both were very attentive! I love how the restaurant gives an original, old Puerto Rican feel in the decor and in their uniforms. Not sure where the diners on this review were at....there is more than one Raices. We were directed to the San Juan location NOT the old San Juan location. This one was located in a very distinct Puerto Rican neighborhood nowhere near the tourist section. The food was AMAZING. The staff- out server, Sarah was fantastic. We enjoyed a nice, long wait just to order, followed by an even longer wait for food that was somehow both incorrect and incomplete. Always fun ordering one thing and getting a surprise instead--like fish tacos that weren't fish tacos, served on cold, hard tortillas with mystery purple slaw. The tostones were a nice touch too--cold and stiff, just how everyone loves them. And shoutout to the kitchen for redefining "well done" with a completely raw burger. The real highlight though? Quick Summary: Our family of four waited 2 hours for our food after we ordered, the waitstaff ignored us for most of that time (until my wife asked for a status update on the food), when the food finally came, one dish was cold, one dish was overcooked, and to be fair, they did Goldilocks my dish because after two hours of what I can only assumed was a singular focus on this dish, it was just right. When my wife asked about the food (after waiting 90 minutes to say anything), we were told that we could have free shots (or 10% other drinks) to help ease the pain of the wait. Having gone with 2 teenagers, this really wasn't much help (eventually we asked to see a manager and after she condescendingly called my wife "hon" in trying to explain what was happening, we did get free Cokes for the kids, so I guess that's something). As we were leaving, a server dumped a bag of flan on our table as a sort of apology, though if I'm reading the flan containers correctly, it was made 8 days ago (yikes!). The venue is pretty big, and it was busy tonight, but a 2-hour wait for the food seems excessive. (The table of 3 who sat down at the same time as we did had not yet received their food by the time we'd left, so I guess it could have been worse). Came here twice, after also trying their location in Old San Juan. The indoor/outdoor setup with the large tvs playing sporting events was perfect ambiance! For dinner, I tried the chuleta kan kan with (white) rice and beans. The chuleta was huge (lasted for 3 meals for me), seasoned perfectly, and had perfectly crisy chicharonnes around the outside. Also had the Spanish sausage (I forget its name on the menu). I recommend these sausages because they are good!! Came back to this location for a second time, specifically for the piña colada (WITH rum - they will ask if you want the rum). As was usually our experience, the customer service was excellent! I've been to their Calle Loiza location named "Raices Urbano" twice now, filled with lively murals that represent the culture and outstanding service. The last time I was there I had their mofongo con churrasco and this time I just HAD to have it again. This time it was even better than the last. This establishment was recommended by hotel workers at Embassy Suites San Juan. So far, the service has been great. We flagged a waiter down who wasn't even our waiter and he took our order. The bathrooms are community, no female/male separation so do not be alarmed when you see another gender in the area. Bathroom stalls are within the walls. Will update with photos of the food once we get our delicious food! Update: After receiving our food, service went down hill from a 5 to 3. I ordered aguacate with my churassco not mofongo. Had to ask for my side dishes of rice and beans and the aguacate. Service started out great but once the food came out, it was a Disaster. Had the worst experience here. We went New Year's Day and first had to wait 35min to be seated. While we waited we sat at the bar for drinks and the bartender messes up our order so he got upset and ignored us for a while to help other people. We got our drinks and they were very disappointing they were overly sweet. We were taken to a table to be largely ignore by everyone and finally someone came to take our order. The order started coming in after a long wait and sporadically. I asked them to cancel my entree because I filled up with appetizers because I was tired of waiting. Then they brought one dish and no utensils, one of the persons in our party had to go get napkins. The server didn't bring utensils and we had to ask but by the time they brought them the food was already cold. One of the sides (majado) came cold and they messed up the order so we had to start over. After one and a half hour of waiting the food hadn't fully arrived and we were upset by the poor service and the delay. We spent over two hrs and still hadn't gotten all our food. We canceled the order and the manager came to talk to us but didn't believe us how long we'd been there, she had no clue about what was going on. They took some items off of our bill but for the terrible service, delay and okay food we solid t have paid anything. I thought it was more like a pudding but my companion loved the flavor and enjoyed it. 1 star (only because zero isn't an option) We had a terrible experience at Raices Urbano. We came with a large group with a reservation, expecting at least decent service and got the exact opposite. It took 30 minutes just to get water, and over an hour for our appetizers and drinks to arrive. When they finally did, we were given plastic utensils, like we were taking food to go, not dining in. To make matters worse, we literally watched kitchen staff eat from customers' plates. Let that sink in. We placed our food order, but after nearly two hours of waiting--and seeing food just sitting on the kitchen line for over 25 minutes with no warmers, we asked for the order to be canceled. We had repeatedly asked our waiter for updates or to just bring the food out as it was ready, but nothing. No one communicated, no one checked in, not a single apology, and no manager ever came by. We couldn't even get a water or drink refill. This was hands-down one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. It was our first time in Puerto Rico and having lunch at Raices Urbano was part of our itinerary, we had heard the food and ambiance was great. little did we know the surprise we would be getting. The host : As soon as we get there the place had a few customers We asked for a table for 5 and they sat us at a table with 4 chairs and did not even acknowledge that there were 4 chairs or offer to get us the 5th chair . We had to take another chair from the table next to us . Since our waiter was not coming over to check on us we wanted to ask for hot sauce and the host was walking by literally just a few feet away from us we tried getting her attention 2x and she walked right by me and ignored me . The waitress : Without giving us a chance to look at the menu she asked if we wanted something to drink so we just asked for water . After that she never came over to ask if we wanted anything else to drink , we ended up going to the bar to get our self a drink . When we asked her for the menu she just told us to scan the QR code , which we did not have a problem with but a little after a couple came in and they got a regular menu. When she finally came over to take our order we asked her about the food and recommendations and she was acting like we knew what she was talking about and would answer us in a rude way. She never came over to check on us to see how the food was or if we needed anything. We sat there after having our meal for a really long time waiting for the bill until one of the servers came over asking if we needed the check. Mind you all this time all the servers are at the corner next to the bar having a great time them self without paying attention to the customers. Bartenders: We walked to the bar to get drinks for our self since the waitress didn't come back to ask if we wanted anything to drink and when we walk up to the bar the bartenders turned around to look at us and acted like we were not there.
