The Mofongo here was super Yum !! We had went ro so many places for Mofongo and this was to far the closest, The taste instantly took me back to childhood, reminding me of home-cooked meals and those familiar, nostalgic flavors you never forget!! For those that never had it, it's sounds bad but it's delicious . Made with plantain chunks of pieces for lechon and chicken and flavours in each bite is hard to explain!! Everyone was nice and informative and. Welcoming !!! We sat outside and it was a perfect windy night. Not too hot not too cold perfect night ! I do recommend to Uber here and uber back to your hotel or condo . Hi T easier. . Ladies are dressed in how the ladies dressed in she older days.

Raises Urbana was recommended to us by a tour guide as being one ofrestaurants near the piers, we thought we'd give it a try. It was really a mixed bag. It was very touristy, which being close to the piers you'd expect that. We both had the monfogo, my wife had the shrimp and I had the pork. Her's was pretty good and I'd recommend that. My pork was completely dried out and chewy. The drinks were great. I had a Cuba Libre and it was fantastic. This is a tourist joint, so don't expect high cuisine, but it was pleasant and the flavors (outside of my pork being overly dry) were great.

Quick Summary: Our family of four waited 2 hours for our food after we ordered, the waitstaff ignored us for most of that time (until my wife asked for a status update on the food), when the food finally came, one dish was cold, one dish was overcooked, and to be fair, they did Goldilocks my dish because after two hours of what I can only assumed was a singular focus on this dish, it was just right. When my wife asked about the food (after waiting 90 minutes to say anything), we were told that we could have free shots (or 10% other drinks) to help ease the pain of the wait. Having gone with 2 teenagers, this really wasn't much help (eventually we asked to see a manager and after she condescendingly called my wife "hon" in trying to explain what was happening, we did get free Cokes for the kids, so I guess that's something). As we were leaving, a server dumped a bag of flan on our table as a sort of apology, though if I'm reading the flan containers correctly, it was made 8 days ago (yikes!). The venue is pretty big, and it was busy tonight, but a 2-hour wait for the food seems excessive. (The table of 3 who sat down at the same time as we did had not yet received their food by the time we'd left, so I guess it could have been worse). If you want meh food, below meh service, condescending managers all at a meh, price, this is definitely your spot.

A little disappointed that they were showing a movie instead of some good Puerto Rican music. The pina colada was good. Beans were fantastic. Mofongo was good. Service could have been better.

Good for happy hour specials. The food just wasn't very good. I guess it was bar food- something to soak up the alcohol. But don't expect a culinary experience.

We just arrived to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. We look up restaurants nearby and come across Raíces. We were captivated by the esthetics of the restaurant. We ordered drinks and all though they did not taste very strong of alcohol they were refreshing in the hot weather. On our second day we were told to not go to raíces as it was a tourist trap but we ENJOYED every single bite. The fish tacos were full of flavor and the fish was crispy. The chicken was bursting with flavors I've never had. BUT THE MOFONGO!!!! My mouth waters as I right this. We had it with shrimp and honestly it was the star of the meals. The flavors captured in this dish are indescribable. Portions are very big so we were happy That our airbnb had a microwave where we could heat it all up later and have it again. Tourist trap or not it is worth the visit!

Raices was recommended by our guide on a kayaking tour. I tried the queso frita (fried cheese) appetizer, carne frita (fried pork chunks) in mofongo, and their house sangria. The fried cheese just wasn't for me. It was literally blocks of fried cheese but not breaded or anything. The fried pork was very salty and tough. I did not care for the mofongo; it wasn't flavored well. The sangria was very good! Oh well also had the mini empanadas and those were very good! We had a waitress in training and she was very nice. Her trainer was also great and both were very attentive! I love how the restaurant gives an original, old Puerto Rican feel in the decor and in their uniforms. While I do not think I'd visit again, I was glad to have tried it!

Place has a lot of art decor on the wall which makes it esthetically pleasing. Service was decent , our waiter was friendly and spoke both English and Spanish. Food was great. My fish tacos were seasoned perfectly and filling. My friends who had the pollo rellono and mofongo said it was delicious . Drinks were also very good.

Wonderful lunch. Wish I lived nearby so I could order the seafood mofongo in pilon again. Cocktails were good too. Not uncommonly, the music was a tad loud, but certainly not a deal b

Came here twice, after also trying their location in Old San Juan. The indoor/outdoor setup with the large tvs playing sporting events was perfect ambiance! For dinner, I tried the chuleta kan kan with (white) rice and beans. The chuleta was huge (lasted for 3 meals for me), seasoned perfectly, and had perfectly crisy chicharonnes around the outside. Also had the Spanish sausage (I forget its name on the menu). I recommend these sausages because they are good!! Came back to this location for a second time, specifically for the piña colada (WITH rum - they will ask if you want the rum). As was usually our experience, the customer service was excellent! Further in the back, it appears that they host events or gatherings. Check out Raices for a good meal or drinks!

What a way to end my night! After attending the festival at Old San Juan & dancing to live music & enjoying the history of our beautiful island I was able to savor the authentic dishes of our island! They had live music and he was fantastic! The service was great! Everything came out timely and the presentation was phenomenal. With regards to tastes- it speaks for itself! The food did not disappoint!!!! I would recommend without hesitation! Que Rico!!!

If you are looking for a restaurant with authentic Puerto Rican food and a fun atmosphere in the San Juan area Raices is the place to go. I've been to their Calle Loiza location named "Raices Urbano" twice now, filled with lively murals that represent the culture and outstanding service. The last time I was there I had their mofongo con churrasco and this time I just HAD to have it again. This time it was even better than the last. I also ordered a side of habichuelas y arroz blanco (beans and rice). I was so happy because my rice had some parts of the concón (the crispy rice at the bottom of the pot) and I LOVE concón. Raices is a great place to find delicious Puerto Rican food!

The flavor was ridiculous in the best way possible, the shrimp was perfectly cooked, and the tostones were notably fresh. 10/10- you MUST go. Out of all of the gumbo variations I've had from countless regions, Puerto Rico's is my favorite. Particularly from La Cueva Del Mar. Our server, Nicole, was an angel. She is SO SWEET. She made the experience even better!!! It was packed and very loud at 7pm on a Thursday, which is a nonissue for me, but if your party prefers a quiet meal, be mindful of timing.

The Meh: I liked this Cueva del mar in calle loiza but this experience was subpar. Prior to even ordering, I asked if their famous fish tacos would have the same coleslaw with their special sauce intermixed like it's been since 2007, but in recent visit on Dec 2025 was not the same. He stated he understood. When it arrived, the cole slaw was dry, not the same famous fish tacos i've been used to for years unfortunately. It was unnecessary for the waiter (male in his 50s with black ivy cap) to insist to try to prove me wrong stating that "it's always been this way and i've worked here for 15 years" when my mother and i have had these fish tacos since it opened originally in guaynabo circa ~2007. Mind you, i am bilingual and overheard the waiter talking to the kitchen. Their solution was to bring sauce on the side. My partner ate 1 fish taco, I ate none. When we left the establishment, the waiter went outside to stop my fiance. The waiter never approached me to apologize directly por el mal rato. I also found it extremely distasteful to have to overhear an employee (brunette) on her break (or otherwise) with her foul language near our toddler. We'll just have to stick to another location that treats customers better.

We were greeted with complimentary sopa de plátano and bacalaítos, and I was NOT expecting to love them as much as I did. This was by far the best sopa de plátano I've ever had.
