From the moment I arrived, everyone was incredibly kind and patient, from the receptionists and April, to Dr. Slade, the young lady who took my X-rays, and the hygienist. Every single person made me feel seen, cared for, and completely at ease. I never thought I'd say this, but I truly didn't feel stressed at all during my visit. They took their time, explained things clearly, and treated me with so much compassion. It honestly changed the way I feel about going to the dentist. I should have checked the reviews before booking... When I scheduled my appointment, I explicitly confirmed that my insurance would cover the X-rays and cleaning. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I arrived early, but wasn't called back until 20 minutes past my appointment time. After the X-rays (I think her name was Lola who was wonderful--professional and patient), I sat in the chair for well over an hour. When the doctor finally arrived, I was told my teeth looked good with minimal buildup, yet they presented a $1,500 treatment plan filled with 'add-ons' like laser treatments and cavity preventatives. As someone who brushes and flosses daily, I was shocked. When I declined the extras and requested just the standard cleaning my insurance covers, the doctor became visually irritated. I was then told they 'couldn't' do a basic cleaning without a $200 deep cleaning first. It feels like this office is more interested in upselling than patient care. Unfortunately, they'll still collect the insurance money for the X-rays, but they've lost a patient for life. I asked them to email my X-rays and documents they did collect so I can take it to a better dentist and they didn't... "You will never get a regular cleaning again, hun." Those were the condescending words that hygienist Andrina R. spoke to me when trying to explain why I needed a particular kind of cleaning. She referred to me as "hun" two more times, which is truly unprofessional and unfortunately the final straw for me to make the decision to leave this practice taking along with me my husband and two kids. Us four will find a new practice after going there for more than 6 years. I went for a regularly scheduled cleaning, that was scheduled six months prior when I had my last visit. At this appointment they told me I wasn't scheduled for a cleaning, but insisted that I was supposed to be on an every three month cleaning schedule. Both can't be true. I can't not have been scheduled for a cleaning, but am supposed to be on a three month cleaning schedule. Then prior to my hygienist exam, Dr. Espinoza told me I needed several different up-charged treatments. Again, I've been coming to this dentist office for years and have never had recommendations usually performed by a hygienist, made by the dentist prior to a cleaning exam. There were several unnecessary miscommunications for this regular, until today, loyal patient. After reading several reviews, I see that my experience is not unique and appears to be regular practice now at this office. I would think twice before coming here. I have been with this office for 6 years and the staff is a constant revolving door. I have stayed as a patient for this long due to the convenience that it is very close to my house. Most the dentists have been kind, but a majority have been new grads. I've had good and bad experiences with the newer dentists, but most of my issues are with the office staff. This year alone they have messed up my appointments 3 times where I was booked for a slot that was actually not available and found out when I showed up. Another time I sat outside of the locked office for approx 25 minutes because no one arrived on time to open. I work full time and move my work schedules around my appts which is a pain sometimes to reschedule. For this last incident I was told they called me every day for several days to tell me they tried calling. I have no missed calls or voicemails. I know we have spoken over the phone in the past and they have left voicemails in the past. iPhones do not automatically purge call logs or voicemails. There is nothing in my recent, missed, or voicemail logs for the last month from the office which I do have saved as they have several numbers. The office manager suggested it may have been full, which it wasn't. I was also told that they use a "very advanced" EMR to document and chart. Yes, I know what EPIC is and I also know those are manual entries that don't actually link to an actual call system. The last several incidents of "miscommunication" have really made me question why I am still a patient here because this place is not cheap. Example: my insurance rejected their claim for over $100 for "patient instructions" which were verbal from the hygienist who basically told me to floss. I am very disappointed in my recent experiences as a patient here and hope it improves because Dr. Slade is actually a really good dentist and their hygienist is great as well. read more

I have been a patient at La Verne Dental Group for estimate 10 years. I had my wisdom teeth removed here back in 2020 and never once had an issue...until dealing with their current office manager, April. Last week of June, I went in to get a crown replaced. April failed to let me know their machine wasn't working before starting the process. Because of that, I was stuck with a temporary for a week and a half, if I would've known this I would have rescheduled. On top of that, I had paid for a deep cleaning the same day, but by the time the crown process was done, I was told the hygienist had left for the day. That meant I had to return again just for the cleaning...but I didn't know the second appointment would be a cleaning only and not a crown replacement because the machine still wasn't in service. Therefore they should've rescheduled that and been upfront again....therefore I had to go back a third time to get the temporary taken off and the overlay put on. Three separate days disrupted for something that should have been completed same-day, the dentist was very very kind and stayed late the third time and took time out of her own schedule so I wouldn't have to take time out of work that time. But it was especially frustrating when there's a sign in the room that literally says procedures can be done the same day. I paid $2,300 and decided to call it a day, swearing I would never come back. Fast forward to this morning, my overlay has chipped and now I have a chunk of it missing. I leave for vacation in 5 days and now have to take yet another sick day this Wednesday to deal with this. When I called today to explain the situation, I talked to April and at first said she remembered me therefore I didn't get into my back story. As I began sharing my frustration with what's going on now, she backtracked and claimed she didn't remember and deals with too many patients. And that she doesn't know who I am, She then proceeds to say she looked at my account and told me I had an "outstanding balance" of $2,352.00 when I had already paid $2,352. I told her no I paid that and she said well I see you paid but your insurance owes us. I just called my insurance and they said they don't owe anything. And weirdly enough the number she gave me was my exact out of pocket expense and my last appointment I went they tried to charge me too and I showed that I had already paid. She also claimed I hadn't been there since 2022, when in fact I was just there less than two months ago. And she told me when I came she didn't even work there so how would she remember me And I said no I was just there in June and you and I got into because you weren't up front about anything and I got the run around. And now it's happening again she then told me she didn't like how I was speaking to her and she had the dentist call me back who was great and let me know that my dentist no longer works at that office, which honestly...good for her for moving offices! Long story short: DO NOT COME HERE. They overcharge, upsell, and April is far from genuine. My dentists here have always been amazing but they do change every single time I come, it seems to be a revolving door. April's lack of professionalism, accountability, and basic customer service makes me feel ownership should seriously reevaluate Aprils position, she is driving away loyal, long term patients. They lost my entire family (6 of us) over Aprils lack of professionalism. Made an appointment due to a dental emergency. Arrived on time for the appointment and still had to wait approximately 30 minutes while a walk-in was seen before me. Got x-rays and digital photos of the affected tooth and waited for the dentist. Dr. Chioma Aniwigbo was the dentist whom I had the displeasure of meeting. Walked in, took one look at the digital photos, and simply said I needed a root canal and crown. Took a quick peek at the tooth and left the exam room. Nicole, the receptionist, came in with a couple of sheets listing the prices for the work which was north of $2,000. I had my dental insurance's patient charge schedule with me and pointed out discrepancies in pricing with nearly every single code listed. Not only was she unable to explain why each of the items I pointed out didn't match, she LIED about why one procedure was more. How did I know she was lying? Because after I handed her my phone showing what I should be charged, she attempted to explain by "reading" that the procedure costs more because of which tooth it was. False. The text at the top of the section had no mention of additional charges for the reason she claimed. Surprisingly (and I say that with COMPLETE sarcasm), the price of the crown dropped because I was offered a "deal" by the dentist of getting the upgraded material for free! -_- After questioning the other items more, Nicole realized that I wasn't going to be a victim of their lies and overcharging and simply said she could submit a pre-authorization with my insurance since "I had so many questions" so that their office and I knew what I'd be charged. Made an appointment for later in the month while the pre-authorization was pending but ended up canceling it because 1. I didn't feel comfortable with dealing with liars, 2. I went elsewhere to get a second opinion and surprise, surprise, a root canal wasn't needed, and 3. If you are interested in going there, I suggest that you read the one and two star reviews, they are accurate, in my opinion. In particular, read Aubrey B's review, I completely agree with her. If you read the five star reviews, those people have been lucky. Over the years, they consistenly get my insurance prices incorrect, so I've learned to call my insurance company ahead to verify my out of pocket costs. Long wait times at the office. I double the amount of time they tell me something will take. I was recently outside waiting for an 8 am appointment, when they actually open at 8:30. When I arrived on time for my appointment very recently, the office manager, April, was completely rude to me when I questioned the copayment that she quoted me, which was different than what my insurance company quoted. I also wanted to know what the periodontal cleaning was, and she snapped at me that it was a required part of my care plan. I said that I wanted to talk to the dentist before I decided if I wanted the periodontal service - she again strongly snapped at me and said that "the dentists are very busy and don't have time to see you". By now I'm upset at the way she's talking to me, these are regular questions, and I'm a bit confused. So I asked if, as part of my appointment today, I would be seeing a dentist. I had to ask several times if I would be seeing a dentist, she kept going on about the pricing. Finally she said, yes, I'd be seeing a dentist. Then I was sent to wait, I guess while she checked the insurance. When I was called back to see her, she said the price was what I had from when I called my insurance company (the price I thought it was, not what she had said). April was completely rude and unprofessional to me - I can only guess that she was wrong at the costs (happens all the time there), and I was correct, and that's why she was being rude. She did offer to show me the price list and call my insurance company, but I declined, as I had already done that directly. I finally got called back for x-rays, and my blood pressure was 177/98, quite high. The technician asked if I had high blood pressure - yes, but never that high - and why it might be so high. So I told her that I was really upset by the way that the office person had treated me, she was extremely rude over just regular questions. So the technician (very nice) must have told April what I said. When I finally got back for the cleaning, April came in and actually told me that they wouldn't be able to complete my appointment, and that she didn't appreciate me talking to "her staff" about her that way (I didn't know she was the office manager, but no one should be that rude to anyone), and my appointment was over. Seriously, she told me to leave. I wonder if the dentist who owns the practice knows what happened, and that April sent a patient away who needed dental care. I told April when she told me to leave that she was really, really rude to me and that when the technician asked why my blood pressure was so high, I told her. April said, well, if your blood pressure is so high, you should leave. Seriously, the rudest person ever. She said she'd refund my money, but I just walked out without speaking to her. I will say the technicians, hygienists, and dentists are ok, some very nice and good, but there is a lot of turnover of dentists. The office is within walking distance of my house, and I don't always have a car. Also to note, I'm a senior citizen, I still can't believe how rude April was to me. I will never go back. The day this happened, I got in my car right away and drove to Claremont Modern Dentistry, they were so completely nice and even worked me in the same day. I used to go to Claremont but La Verne is closer, that's why I changed. I'll write a separate review on Claremont, but they are wonderful. Don't waste your time at La Verne Dental, you might get lucky, but the front office is completely the problem, not just April. Although, agreeing with Aubrey B's review, if the office wants to keep long time patients like me, they should really reevaluate April's professionalism and interaction with patients. They get defensive and snippy when questioned--with the ultimate answers being, "I don't know why, I wasn't the one who did the transaction." As far as insurance covering, I was charged double what my price should have been! When asked for the medical number(s) of the procedure(s), so that I could check my insurance, they shied away from wanting to give them to me. it took great insistence on my part. We have been patients of this practice for at least 7-8 years when Dr. Iska was the owner of the practice. Things ran smoothly, but she retired shortly after. The practice is now being ran by new ownership with a different staff. The operations of the facility are inconsistent and the staff doesn't seem to be on top of things. They schedule appointments and call either the day before or day of to reschedule due to them being understaffed. This has happened a handful of times. They recently charged me for a service and said that the charge was incorrect and would waive the fee. I asked for confirmation via email and they informed me that the office manager was out and would get back to me the following day. It's been 4 days and no word. When I called today, they informed me that their office manager was on vacation and wouldn't be back for a few more days. The least they could have done was informed me of the delay and they are working to resolve the issue. The staff communication is poor and it doesn't seem like anyone knows what they're doing. I took a leap of faith and switched offices. I see Andrina for my periodontal maintenance (6 month cleaning) and Dr.Ryan Nasimi (spelling) for my care. Best decision!! My teeth are failing at the same time for different reasons (old fillings, crowns). I love that we have a game plan to work on them so that I can plan both financially as well as calendar time for the repairs. Also, Myra works in the front office and got to know me on a personal level and even remembered where I was on Christmas vacation lol: nobody ever remembers to ask people about their personal lives and how they are!! That's a pretty big deal!! I have read a few of the reviews. I feel people tend to leave bad reviews when they are handed the bill but don't realize that they haven't seen a dentist in years. A dentist often sees your track record for showing up. In fear of you not returning or prioritizing for your checkups; they want you to do more salvageable** work on your teeth up front. So far we talk about which are important to address immediately and which I can wait and see a little longer. I also like my dentist's bedside manner. I have high anxiety when it comes to procedures and will cry right out of the gate. I like that they both take the time to explain what they are doing as they are doing it.
