In August I went in for a teeth cleaning. After the exrays were done I spoke to the Dentist Asian lady sorry I can't remember her name but she did my root canal and permanent crown a year ago. She informed me that the crown she did had a chip in it and asked me what I chewed on and If I knew it was there?? I told her I didn't. I didn't have any pain . She said it needed to be redone and it would cost me 1400+to get it done! I said it had barely been a year since she did it and they should fix it. They've done 4 root canels and permanent crowns in the last 4 years and totaling more than 7k. Nothing like this had happened to any of the other ones. It's impossible not to eat and chew. But for this to happen within a year is not good. Now they want to charge me 1400+ to fix it. They should make me whole. Obviously the product that they made this crown with was not as good as the previous ones. I have been going here for 5 years plus but now I feel like they are making it my fault because I chewed something that made this hairbrush happen. She also informed me that after having crowns I should go to the dentist every 6 months to make sure everything is good? I've never heard of this. Yes I should go get my teeth cleaned every 6 months to a year but that's my prerogative. I loved going here but I feel like I'm being ripped off and won't be going back. read more

It was made giving me an underbite that makes m e keep biting my tongue or biting my lip to where my lower lip is swollen, and it hurts to eat. Update... I'm very rarely surprised anymore. To say I was surprised in the best way with Marissa and her staff after having such a rough time with the call center is an understatement. They were apologetic about the issue and were helpful in addressing the reason I called to begin with. I did in fact have an appointment that I went to and was beyond satisfied with that visit and subsequent visits. So, if by some fluke you have any issue call and talk to Marissa she is amazing. ********************** In the past I've had fairly extensive and expensive dental work done at this location. ( Dr. John was amazing) Last night I scheduled an appointment online called today to see if I could get in sooner and was told by Charmaine that I don't have an appointment. After confirming the location and dentist was told there is no appointment she could see so i should just secure it if I see it online. A little frustrated because- 1. Im in pain 2. Im being told there no appointment and being told when my last visit was because somehow that relevant to today's conversation. 3. Even after confirming the details of the two emails I have I have zero confidence that if I show up Tuesday they will help me. Im torn writing this. Nancy and Marissa have truly been the only reasons I've stayed coming here for now 12 years. Since I moved to the area in 2013. Many have come and go, but I've stayed yet the last few visits have made me squirm. I don't have to say much you can clearly see from the images they have let this place go. The change in staff is apparent every-time I come in for my 6 month cleaning its new faces, but also changes in priorities here. The cleanliness of this place feels nonexistent. The smell when you walk in is foul that i think its why they keep the front door open now. I feel like they need to hire a cleaning crew and keep up with the place. Hoping this post makes them open their eyes because i don't have guts to tell them myself. How can you provide services to people with dust and grime all over the place!? The staff at Claremont Modern Dentistry worked me in the same day that I left the other office - I was very upset, leaving town, and needed my dental care before I left. The office staff in Claremont was so exceptionally nice and understanding - I had gone there before, so they had all of my information, and I only went to the other office because it was closer to my home. I came in on time for my first visit. I was to get a cleaning covered by my insurance. Xrays were taken. I saw Dr. Parks who was cordial and professional. He said my teeth looked pretty good. But "Darren" the hygienist came in and said while my teeth looked overall good, i needed a deep cleaning. I said no, I just wanted a regular cleaning covered by my insurance. He then left me seated for an hour and a half! I asked when my cleaning would be done? I was freezing. It was so cold in that office! I was made to sign a statement that i would get no cleaning if i didn't pay $66.00 for the next level of cleaning!! This was unprofessional, rude, and I feel motivated by greed. I will report this office to my insurance and to the CA Dental Association! I asked that my x-rays be sent to me 3 times and have yet to receive them. I love my hygienist Nancy!! She's the only reason I haven't changed dentists. That being said, this office has WAY too many patients and doesn't seem at all concerned about losing any. Good luck trying to reschedule an appointment. The wait for an appointment is usually 3+ months if you need to reschedule. However, the doctors, dental hygienist, and other staff members take great care of you here. I have never left in pain. I've been coming to this dentist for several years, and our family liked Dr.John, who left the office last year. I didn't notice a big change until on my visit yesterday (08/10/22). - First, we waited in the lobby for almost an hour. - The dental hygienist was either toooooo soft, like unsure what she was doing, or rough and pinched several gums while scrapping. - After my cleaning, waited another 20+ min for the Dentist to see me, while hearing giggling, loud laughing in back office staff......just chatting away. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! - and yes, just like the other reviews, trying to upsell you or tell you, you need certain treatments! -The financial advisor who was to give me pricing on what they suggested, didn't even check what my insurance covered! And told me, I would just get a bill of the full amount or if my insurance covered, to pay the difference. THE WHOLE POINT OF HER JOB, IS TO GET THAT INFO FOR ME, UPFRONT! All I have to say, is WOW! I was a patient here for a couple years and am no longer a patient at this money making dentist. I realized that I wasn't getting care needed and was just a cash cow for this location. My plan covers a cleaning every three months and when the dental hygienist offered me the upgraded Laser cleaning for additional money, three months after I had it done previously, I realized that they were not providing me with the care that I needed and were just trying to make money off of me by upgrades. They insisted that I had a more advanced and costly cleaning that my insurance does not cover. I have always had my routine cleaning and they refused me because they said I must have the more expensive cleaning. They also lied to me and said I had cavities. I then went to a different dentist office that performed the routine cleaning without issue and also mentioned to me that I DO NOT HAVE ANY CAVITIES. These dentist are like car salesman. I've been coming here for dental work for the past 3 years now and while things started off well, at first, I don't know what's been going on with this place lately. First, it seems like they lost some of my dental records as they can't find some of my records from 2018 showing procedures done. Second, it appears they've been over-billing my wife, according to our insurance. As a result, some of our claims thru our FSA have been denied as our FSA provider is now stating the same. On top of this, there was also an instance of a procedure not properly documented by this office which then led to our FSA provider to not honor a different claim. Beware: Inept Charlatans Issue #1 During my routine cleaning, my dentist advised that I needed two crowns (brush your teeth kids). My dentist recommended that I get a ceramic crown. The ceramic option was not covered by insurance and would have cost me $2,500 out of pocket. Coincidentally, the office is plastered in advertisements for these miracle crowns. I asked my dentist about gold crowns since they're not really visible in the back and I've had a good track record with the ones I had done as a kid (20 years of wear and tear and just now starting to wear out - brush your teeth kids). My dentist advised that gold was a good option but the front-end tried to scare me by telling me that my insurance doesn't cover gold and I would still have to pay ~$1,250 out of pocket. They directed me to my insurance guidance document (Cigna DHMO Patient Charge Schedule) which clearly indicated that gold (D2790 - Full Cast high noble metal) is covered. After I convinced them to contact the insurance company, they acquiesced and agreed that the total cost to me would only be $560. When I went to have the crown set (3 months later - that's a different story), the crowns they had ready were a tin color - clearly not the gold that we had planned on. When I asked about it, the dentist tried to convince me that I and the front-end staff had changed my treatment plan from gold to "full-metal crown". I am very concerned that she thought it was okay that I had changed my treatment plan with the receptionist and without my dentist's consult/approval - never mind the fact that that wasn't even true. The dentist's deception didn't work, and I insisted on having the error corrected. Mistakes happen and we could have just rescheduled for when the correct crowns were ready... but that's not what happened. Instead of owning the mistake, the front-end and office manager continued to bully me into believing that I was mistaken and that I had paid for a full metal crown. While they scrambled through their mess of paperwork, I presented them with a verified copy of the treatment plan - code D2790 Full Cast High Noble Metal (Gold). It was marked "Paid." When confronted with this evidence, they switched tactics. They told me that based on what I had paid for, I was supposed to get a gold-plated porcelain crown. So, I pointed out that the treatment plan called for a full cast crown not a porcelain fused to gold - that would have been code (D2750). Finally the jig was up, the office manager apologized and said their was an issue with their system and that they would order the gold crown. At this point, I was beyond frustrated and was not looking forward to having to schedule another appointment with the office. I asked the office manager if they would be willing to make things right and just make me a ceramic crown like my dentist had originally recommended for me (they can make those same day in office). Conveniently, it turns out that I'm not a candidate for ceramic anymore so they couldn't make that happen. So, I'm on the fence. Is this a cluster of ineptitude or a charlatan ploy? You can decide for yourself, but proceed at your own risk. ------------- Issue #2 I had an appointment in mid-December for a quarterly teeth cleaning (floss your teeth kids). The day before, the office called to cancel because one of their hygienist was sick. I had taken the day off of work to take care of a few doctor's visits so I asked if there was any way they could fit me in. No joy. And now they can't get me in until Jan 27 and won't refer me to another office to get a cleaning sooner*. My math isn't that great but that puts me just about 5 months between cleanings - closer to semi-annually than quarterly. I guess this office isn't all that dedicated to following through with their treatment plans. *I have a DHMO (bad life decision) so I can't go to another office without a referral read more

This dental office has been top notch from the very beginning. The treatment plans and financial plans are explained so you don't leave the place without knowing what you need to do. Everyone is personable and professional. What I notice most is how everyone helps each other and there genuinely happy. That makes me feel safe and comfortable. I know that some people that posted reviews ay that the wait time was horrible. There have been times when I waited, but there very understating when you ask them why and how much longer. I came in for glueing a crown back in place. I was forced to take a bunch of x-rays and CT scan. In the end I get to speak to office manager who explained what my treatment plan was. It was quite lengthy plan due to several issues. Then the junior dentist who was taking care of me had no idea what my treatment plan was. He just asks me do I want to proceed or not. He seems to forget that I came in for glueing on my crown back in place. Finally he does the glueing job and keeps saying it will come loose again. I wasted 90 minutes while this clinic spent all the time calculating how much money they want to make off me. This clinic is NOT a patient centric place. Avoid at all costs. read more

As someone that's TERRIFIED of the dentist, i can't say enough good things about this place. I had an emergency and needed an infected tooth extracted. Their schedule for the day was full but they were able to still squeeze me in and see me. They knew that i was scared and did everything they could to make sure i was as comfortable as possible. Staff had great customer service. Though, they did not explain post up of the surgery to my bf AT ALL. Nobody told him that he can't eat regular foods (and up to 2 months of crunchy foods), floss or brush his teeth, or speak properly for about 2 weeks. It's almost the holidays (Thanksgiving) and not knowing this is very inconvenient. In addition, he didn't know he was going to be in a lot of pain, and had work the same day (he still went cause he didn't want to call out). That seems to be a lack of empathy to the patient and makes me wonder if they were all about business. I work in healthcare and find this (lack of education to the patient) unacceptable. This dental office conducts unscrupulous business practices by charging for services that are fully covered by contract with Delta Dental. The accounts payable woman was not nice and never friendly. I had chipped a front tooth in early January 2024 and went in for a repair. The same woman directed staff to tell me this repair would be cosmetic and not covered. It was a front tooth....needed to bite into fruit, etc., but for good measure, the staff member also said, "oh, the tooth wasn't rotting and broke so it's not claimable" I called Delta and it was 100% covered. This sinister office double-dipped and charged me $250 AND put a claim in with Delta Dental which they were paid as shown by the Evidence of Benefits (EOB) I received from Delta. I wonder how many other people they've suckered into paying for contracted covered services?! read more

My family began using Claremont Modern Dentistry a couple of years ago when our dental insurance changed. In its favor, the staff here are always very friendly and they have lots of new equipment, digital x-rays, etc. I suppose that's the "modern" of their brand. Unfortunately, this is a very poorly run office and, after multiple frustrating visits, I'm done with them. On today's visit, I arrived the recommended 10 minutes early, but then waited 40 minutes before I was taken back to be seen for my semi-annual cleaning. They took x-rays, but when I got to my chair I discovered that they had the wrong person's name on the screen. Somehow, they had me down as a different patient with the same first name. If I hadn't noticed the screen and pointed it out, I guess my x-rays would have ended up in his dental records. They were very apologetic, and that's fine--stuff happens. But then, after my cleaning, I waited another 30 minutes lying in the chair for someone to come in and do the polishing. I asked the hygienist why everything was taking so long and she mentioned a miscommunication and a reduced number of rooms. Total time in the dentist office today: 1 hour and 55 minutes! I wish I could say this was the first time this has happened, but my wife and daughter have also experienced these lengthy delays. On a previous visit with my daughter, we checked in at the front and then waited almost 45 minutes to be seen. I went up to ask them what was happening and they had clearly forgotten we were even there! They also keep making mistakes with the charges I pay. I no longer use my wife's dental insurance, so on my previous visit I switched to paying out of pocket. When I arrived I asked for a quote. They quoted me and said they would let me know before doing any procedures that would add to the total. No extra procedures were done, so when I left they charged my card for the quoted amount. 1 month later I received another bill from them in the mail saying I owed more money. I went by the office asking what happened. They apologized profusely, saying it was their fault and that they would remove the additional charge. A few weeks later, I received a call from a collections agent, saying a still owed the money! I went in again and they finally got the additional charges removed. So on today's visit, based on that previous experience, I thought I'd better check again to be clear about the cost up front. They said it would be $60, and they again said they would notify me before doing any procedures requiring additional charges. So I did the appointment. When I came out (almost 2 hours later, see above) they said my visit would be $125! I asked what happened to the $60, and they apologized and said they'd misquoted me the first-time patient price, and that I owed $125 as a returning patient. I'm fine with paying $125--that was likely the price the last time I came. But I'm not sure it's even legal to quote someone one price, then charge a different price after offering the service. They could easily have knocked the price down to match what they quoted me, but they did not. I'm more than fine overlooking a mistake here or there, but this stuff is happening to me literally every time I come here. It's the most poorly run, mistake-prone medical office I've ever experienced. I won't be going back. read more
