I'd like to start off by saying, I'm very intentional when I travel to support LOCAL businesses. That being said I was excited I found this salon and they where able to squeeze me in same day for a blowout. Unfortunately upon arriving, I was greeted by the receptionist who check me in clearly seeing I had my daughter with me and told me I could have a seat and wait. After waiting 10-15mins, I was then greeted by the stylist who should have done my service to be told they have a strict NO CHILDREN or guest policy and that the policy was sent over to me prior to the appointment via email. That if I could have someone pickup my daughter and they could perform the service. First I would like to address the fact the policy was not sent to me via email because upon booking they did not ask for my email. Secondly how disappointing that this is a women owned business and they chose to implement a no children policy. Sadly I can not base this review on a service that was performed but only on customer service and policy and I would not recommend this business based solely on the policies and the way this situation was handled. read more

I don't think I will ever go anywhere other than LAB salon ever again, I loved it here and cannot recommend enough! The inside was so cute and such a welcoming atmosphere, and everyone there could not have been nicer - especially my stylist, Lindsay! I scheduled a cut and dye, doing a pretty big chop to my hair. I had a meeting run over late with work and was so worried I was going to miss my appointment, I was going to be 30 minutes late and when I called to let them know and see if that was okay, they could not have been more accommodating. They let me know that they could be flexible and gave me different options, come in and do the cut and dye if time permitted once they saw and got a feel for what we were doing and how long it would take, just doing the cut and rescheduling for the dye, or rescheduling all together. We ended up being able to still do the cut and dye and I could not have been happier with how my hair came out! read more

I used to go here and would always ask for shorter layers and bangs. I literally never got the layers but the bangs were always fine. The lady I used to for go to left so I went to a new one and my bangs couldn't have been worse -- still no layers. Even when I went back they barely fixed them and were super condescending to me and I was like 16. I would NOT recommend going to this salon. The prices are fine but the services are quite shit and there's really no reason to talk down to someone for your mistake. Edit: I would like to clarify that I left this review so much later because I am honestly still hurt by the way I was treated when I was in this salon. It was a while ago, but I still live in the area and still pass this salon from time to time. I was a teenager, and I didn't get what I asked for. My hair is something that I am still very attached to as many women are, so when it was ruined I was very upset. What's more upsetting is that when I went back to get them fixed is how rude the owner was who fixed them. She blamed it on me for not being able to tell the stylist what I wanted. Once again I was 16. I don't think it's fair to treat anyone that way, but especially not a kid. Based on the response to this review it seems as if that is still the salon's attitude, so I would suggest anyone steer clear of bad service and bad attitude. read more

It's always scary going to a new hair studio, but I've needed a change and had heard good things about LAB Salon, so decided to give them a shot. It's discretely located in a strip of shops in Castle Shannon, which you could easily pass up if you're not looking for it. Walking in, the salon is decorated super cute, with neon signs, a plant wall, and many plants through out. It's very modern-looking, clean, and welcoming! I DMed the salon page on Instagram and was given an appointment with Abby, who was super bubbly and friendly. I wasn't really sure what I wanted for my hair, and she recommended some lowlights to make my already blonde hair "pop", as well as some toning and highlights around my face. While it took a bit longer than I was used to at my previous hair salon, Abby took her time to make sure everything looked good and I would like the final product. I appreciated the attention to detail she placed on my hair and that she took the time to give me adorable beachy waves once I was all done, too. With all of the work she had done to my hair, I worried it was going to be crazy expensive but was pleasantly surprised with the pricing, as well. Booked online for daughter's homecoming. They didn't want to wash it when I scheduled a full blow out and style with Jessica. Says on the website she gives perfect blowouts. This was the worst blow out and style I have ever seen from a salon. So much for trying a new salon. If you want a good blow out go to DH studio instead. They are the best. I never give bad reviews but I just wanted to make sure this didn't happen to anyone else for a special occasion. read more

This place is great. Easy to get to. Free parking. Very clean. Very modern. The staff is amazing and very attentive. You're immediately greeted when you enter, and they are great at going over each service and the charge so there are no surprises. Taylor is my stylist and I love her. I had spied her Instagram and was very impressed with the pictures of her work. My hair is not easy to deal with. The texture isn't the best and I'm a redhead. Well, Taylor rocks the red. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she copied it to perfection. Not all stylists can do reds. She did such a beautiful job! She added highlights and lowlights. It was just gorgeous. Great cut too! Plus - they added color block on my skin. I'm in my 40's and all the years I've been getting my hair colored, that's the very first time someone did that. They take a lot of pride in their work and Taylor is a perfectionist. She's also a blast to be around and super kind and supportive to chat with. She's incredible! I love the atmosphere at LAB and always look forward to my visits after a long day at work. I get my lashes and brows done by Alina, who is such a sweet girl. I have trouble keeping my face still because we always find something to talk and laugh about, but she is also happy to let you relax in silence or to music if you need a quiet session. The other girls in the salon are also friendly and inviting, although I haven't used their other services. My lashes always look amazing and my powder brows are still going strong and help me feel good without makeup. Would definitely recommend! read more

LAB Salon such a wonderful trendy salon in Castle Shannon! My friend recommended LAB to me when she first tried it to get her eyebrows tinted and they looked AMAZING. I started with an eyebrow wax there. I am extremely picky with my eyebrows, I like them thick, and arched, but not way too arched (see what I mean?). Jess has done a phenomenal job each and every time. I can tell you my friend gets the henna brows there and she looks and feels phenomenal every time. I mainly go to LAB for my brows, but I've had my hair trimmed, and facials there. Done perfectly every time. Jess really listens to what I want done whether it's my hair or my brows. She really takes her time. I really enjoyed my facial there with Tamara as well. I'm very new when it comes to facials, the only other one i had done, i had a bad experience with. Tamara was absolutely great, she asked me questions about my skin, explained each and every step to me, and had a great conversation with her. The whole experience was very relaxing! During one of my brow visits, I had talked to Jess about getting my makeup done for my wedding. At this point, my wedding was a little over a year out. I am not very well versed in the process as far as hair and makeup, but Jess was very patient and explained each and very step to me. I am so very picky about my eye makeup, I have a monolid, which has proven difficult to get makeup done where I feel confident and beautiful. JESS NAILED IT. We kept in contact throughout the year and when I went in for my trial, just WOW. The quality and skill is just amazing. I will attach photos as they speak for themselves. I wanted to comment on the service, which is absolutely amazing. Initially, since I did not have a wedding party, we were just going to come into the salon, but a lot of my girlfriends had an Air BNB and expressed interest in getting hair and makeup done. Jess was prompt, efficient and so organized. We all knew the makeup and hair schedule as I got a detailed excel spreadsheet. Jess always responded and answered all my questions very quickly. Every single person that got their hair and makeup done that day commented about how amazing their makeup and hair was. It stayed on all day and night and everyone absolutely loved it. Not the mention, Jess and her gals are always so fun to just be around! Jess also went above and beyond for me. I had a hair piece that for some reason didn't have clips in it. She actually hot glued the clips in and then showed one of my friends how to change it out during the wedding. How amazing is that?? My experiences at LAB regardless of if it's a simple wax or wedding makeup have been extraordinary. Definitely a must visit salon in the South Hills! read more

I love LAB Salon and my hairdresser Lindsey. When I moved to Brentwood I looked on Yelp for a hair salon that was closer because I was tired of driving into the city to get my hair done. I'm very particular on who I let do my hair. I read about how great Lindsey was on Yelp so I made an appointment with her and figured, let's give her a try. Lindsey did (and does) an amazing job on my hair. She took me from a faded black with blue highlights to a black/blonde balayage in just a couple visits. I love my new color! Also let's mention how cute the salon is. Super hip and modern. And I love their music selection that's playing. They use vegan friendly hair products..another plus in my book. I came with my mom to LAB Salon a few weekends ago. My mom lives out of town and always says she wants to fix her eyebrows so I searched on Yelp for a good salon to schedule an appointment for her during her trip! The receptionist was very kind to help me find an appointment on a busy Saturday afternoon (my availability was limited within the time constraints of my mom's visit). She was able to fit us in in-between visits. She had to check the schedule and called me back promptly the next day. The actual appointment went fairly well. I got my eyebrows waxed and she did a really good job. My mom got her eyebrows waxed and tinted. Unfortunately, my mom didn't love the result of either one. Without thinking it through, my mom got her eyebrows tinted brown when she really has more of a blonde look going - strawberry blonde probably would've worked better for her. But what was disappointing for my mom was the waxing. The staff person didn't ask my mom how she wanted her eyebrows shaped. So, she waxed them how they're popular right now -- a little bit thicker. My mom wanted her eyebrows to be thinner, similar to mine. I'm still giving the salon 4 stars because they did do a good job! I do wish the staff person was a little more thoughtful on asking my mom what she wanted/advising her, but at the same time we could've spoken up. The rest of the salon seemed nice and I'd be interested in returning for their other salon services in the future! read more

I am very disappointed with thier service... Shelled money for a service that did not even last for a week... I initially went for a balayage, when they sumed up the cost to skies, I later went for a partial red streaks to the bottom part of my hair where I had brown and pink coloured one and half years back... I asked them to specifically colour red only to the brown strands as I wanted pink to stay on... After blow-dry n setting the hair, the colour looked good although it dint last for a week... I even mentioned that I wouldn't be in station for few months and want the colour to lastlong for at least few months... To my misfortune, paying so much I ended up with washed out color that shows nothing... Very very disappointed... read more

Who knew you could get a great cut in a beautiful salon for $35?!? It's probably because I'm used to my fave downtown salons, but man, what a deal. As usual, I decided at the last minute I needed a haircut. I called LAB and was able to get an appointment with Gianna the next day. She was incredibly precise, which as a curly head, I can't say I've always experienced. She took her time and turned out a great cut. As far as atmosphere - the outside plaza isn't much to look at, but the inside of the salon was charming and immaculate; AND, they are highly COVID-conscious, which is an A+ in my book. My hair goal was always to be super ashy and blonde. After spending literally hundreds of dollars and never reaching my goals I decided to jump ship to LAB. I've been creeping on Lindsey's Instagram and loved loved loved her blonde work! So before leaving for vacation I decided to see if she can get me in for a tone and root touch up. Jess microbladed my eyebrows recently, and I love them! Jess is extremely professional, passionate and knowledgeable about brows and makeup. She talked to me about the process and sent me home with a detailed care regimen. Not going to lie, microblading does hurt and the pain points hit your sinuses, so you're a teary, sneezing mess during the procedure, but it's totally worth it to wake up with bangin' brows! So I was ready for a drastic hair change. My hair has been very long (down to my lower back) and uncolored for about five years. It was feeling drab and boring and I had the urge to chop it and add some blonde! I was also ready for a new salon so I perused some Yelp reviews of local hair salons. LAB Salon + Brow Studio stood out with their numerous 5-star reviews! I scheduled an appointment with the lovely Melina and I'm so happy I did! Melina did a great job listening to what I had in mind and made great suggestions. I love the cut and color. She was very kind and I really enjoyed my time with her. I also inquired about brow microblading and the owner of the salon was more than happy to take a few minutes from her work to explain the process to me, which gave me enough information to schedule an appointment for it. It's also very important to add that these ladies do a GREAT job with Covid-wellness checks. Their process is seamless. When I arrived, I took a seat outside and the receptionist brought me a wellness questionnaire to complete along with taking my temp. After passing, I was then escorted inside where I could wash my hands before starting the appointment. All staff members and clients wore masks. It was clear that these ladies put thought and consideration in to operating safely and they're doing a commendable job. I mentioned how impressed I was by the process to my partner, who's a physician, and his response was "Whoa! That's a better process than we're using in the hospital!" Good job, ladies! I'm loving Lab salon + brow studio. I've known Jessica (the owner) for around two years. I was so happy for her when I found out she was opening her own salon. The decor is timeless and classic. The atmosphere is laid back but still professional. I had my engagement photos yesterday and my makeup artist fell through the day before. My coworkers recommended Lab and I called asking if there was any chance for a makeup appointment last minute. The owner came in early the morning of my photos just to do my makeup and I seriously looked fabulous. About 30 people messaged me asking who did my makeup when they saw my photos.
