The final design ultimately became a beautiful blend of my ideas and the team's expertise, and it felt completely like me. From there, I worked primarily with Alison and the rest of the team throughout the design and production process. They were thoughtful, communicative, and incredibly accommodating every step of the way. They shared progress photos along the way, and when we realized there was a mismatch between how I had interpreted part of the sketch and how it was being executed, Alison immediately jumped on a call to listen to my feedback and help adjust the design. I always felt heard and supported, and it was clear that everyone genuinely cared about getting the dress right. The craftsmanship and quality were exceptional. I chose a custom gown with mikado silk, a square neckline, pockets, a full skirt, and a long train with buttons down the back, and every detail was beautifully executed. Even more impressive, the dress fit perfectly despite measurements being taken about eight months before the wedding. I fully expected I'd need alternations closer to the wedding date, but the only alteration I ended up needing was adding a bustle. I initially became interested in Lace and Liberty because of their promise to create a completely unique wedding dress tailored to your preferences. That concept really stood out to me, so I scheduled an online consultation with high hopes. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to expectations. I met with Ali in March, and after the appointment, I realized that many of the 1-star reviews I had seen mentioning similar concerns were not isolated. Throughout the consultation, her tone came across as condescending and indifferent. As someone who has never been married or shopped for a wedding dress before, I naturally wasn't familiar with all the bridal terminology. Instead of guiding me through the process, she seemed irritated when I didn't know certain terms and made me feel uncomfortable for asking basic questions. At one point, I calmly mentioned that Lace and Liberty was just one of several options I was exploring, hoping it might shift the tone of the conversation--but it didn't. The interaction remained tense, and it became clear that this wasn't going to be a supportive or enjoyable experience. Wedding dress shopping should feel exciting, special, and fun--not stressful or discouraging. My dream dress could not have been possible with Lace & Liberty! It was honestly stressful picking laces and trying to convey what I wanted, but my anxieties were calmed when Alison sent the illustration, which I still treasure. I recommend going in for the measurements, if you are able to. I was surprised with a mock up using the lace and fabrics I had chosen. I felt so excited and like my desires were heard and incorporated into the thoughtful design. Throughout the dress creation process (physically in China), I was able to request changes and Alison conveyed them to the team. The dress arrived quickly and with no issue and luckily fit perfectly with no need for alterations other than adjusting the sleeve diameter. My alterations tailor who took care of my reception gown also commented on how high quality and well constructed the ceremony dress was (she does not have any affiliation with lace & liberty). I can't recommend Lace & Liberty enough--especially for petite brides or anyone outside standard sizing. At 4'11", I knew a traditional gown would require major alterations and still might not look proportional. Lace & Liberty completely eliminated that concern by customizing my dress to my exact measurements. My appointment with Nancy was private, relaxed, and felt very personal. She guided me through several beautiful styles, and the quality of the dresses is outstanding--especially for how affordable they are. I ordered my dress in December, received it in June, completed minor alterations and bustling with their recommended tailor (And Something Blue) in July, and had my wedding in September. If I could give this spot 10 stars I would! I first came into Lace & Liberty in June after going to a few other SF dress shops. I am not someone who always had a vision of my wedding dress in mind, but Nancy was so accommodating and helped make sure I was getting to try a variety of different styles before deciding. I ultimately found the perfect wedding dress here, and the price was extremely reasonable for the amount of customization and the fabrics used. This shop offers made-to-measure dresses, which meant that when I got to my first fitting, the dress was already so STUNNING and fit perfectly. My wedding is not until next year, but if you're a bride looking for your wedding dress, I cannot recommend Lace & Liberty enough. I made an appointment a few days in advance for my first dress fitting and found it to be pretty chill, especially since I had no idea what to expect. Alison was so kind and patient, and tailored her recommendations based on my ever-changing feedback. She also asked to help me get into the dresses and I was able to try on 9 different styles within the 1 hour time frame. The dresses here are surprisingly affordable, given that they're custom-made. Most are about $2-3k, which is shocking as I thought bespoke gowns would be upwards of $10k. Some even have POCKETS! How amazing is that?! A wedding dress WITH POCKETS? I love that idea! The space was small and intimate, but comfortable. Seems like they only allow one party at a time, so I had the whole store to myself and the guests I brought along. We weren't offered any champagne (as listed when I made the appointment), but I also didn't really care for any so it didn't take away from the overall experience. Initially, I was very unsure about getting a custom dress. I hadn't tried on any dresses, but had a very clear vision of what I wanted and knew I'd have a difficult time finding exactly what I was looking for. I was also nervous about cost, since wedding dresses in general can be very expensive, so I couldn't imagine custom would be in my budget (I was able to spread out payments which helped a lot). I'd kept seeing adds for Lace & Liberty on my social media feeds so I stalked their IG and read lots of reviews, so decided to reach out for the free web call consultation to see if it was for me. I got to work with the designer Ali and she completely got me and what I was going for. After the consultation I went in to the boutique to feel fabrics and try on a few styles so we could nail down all the various elements. From our conversations and reference photos, Ali sketched out my dress!! We were able to work easily over email to finalize details, including deciding on the final lace after she sourced some different options for me. From there I went in for measurements based on the final design and then all I had to do was wait... I could not be more thrilled for how my dress came out!! It's soooo comfortable (which was a big thing I was concerned about) and it fits perfectly...I did not want to take it off! I'm obsessed!! Note- I asked that it be created as a separate top and skirt and also the skirt has POCKETS!! I definitely recommend Lace & Liberty to create your perfect dress (or pant suit). I would highly recommend Lace & Liberty for any brides looking for a wedding dress! It was very easy to make an appointment online and there's no fee which is a huge plus since many other bridal stores charge for trying on dresses. Nancy was my stylist and immediately so sweet and warm. You get the whole store to yourself during the appointment and it's a beautifully decorated and relaxing space. Nancy let me browse around the store and then helped me try on several dresses. She was very good about asking what I liked and didn't like about each dress and gave me space to figure out my own opinions. I thoroughly enjoyed trying on their beautiful dresses and as an added plus the dresses are quite affordable! I think the prices ranged $2-4k and a huge draw is you can custom make your own dress! Working with Lace & Liberty was the absolute highlight of our wedding planning experience. During my first call with Rozie, I had a vague idea of what I wanted (a dress that symbolized the ocean) but no clue about cut, design, fabric, or anything else. By the time I finished my first appointment in their beautiful little studio, we'd been able to narrow down everything to the last detail, even pockets! Rozie sourced the most beautiful colors for my gown, gave her expert input on number of layers and materials, and made suggestions I hadn't even thought of. Danielle and Joy followed up constantly to make sure I was aligned with the work being done and that I was happy, they checked in with me personally to see how I was feeling, and paid extra special attention to what I may or may not need or want in terms of extras. They made me feel like an absolute princess. And the end result was truly the dress of my dreams. I cannot recommend Lace & Liberty enough for any bride-to-be ~ I didn't have an unlimited budget, but Rozie made sure to address it with me in our first call, stressing that she aimed to come in below cost (which she did!) Every time I put my dress on, I feel the love and care that went into its creation, and I remember how special these wonderful women made me feel. I feel so lucky to have found them ~ I can honestly say my wedding day wouldn't have been as wonderful as it was without them. Fantastic experience! I just picked up my dress today and it's perfect! I had never intended to get a custom dress but after five sessions of trying dresses off the rack, I realized getting a dress that felt like "me" was harder than I imagined. The word "custom" also made me nervous and I anticipated the process would be cumbersome and expensive. It was quite the opposite! I tried on a few sample dresses in the shop and found a style that I liked, but decided to choose a different fabric color, lining color, and density of appliques. After one meeting, I had selected the dress and been sized. They sent me three rounds of progress photos by email that I provided comments on (very minor comments) and they picked up each one. When I picked up my dress tonight it was perfect! The quality was amazing, the fit was perfect, and it felt just right. I'm still amazed that my custom dress cost 1/3 the price of the samples I was trying on! Mind blown. THANK YOU for the amazing dress and I'll be sure to post photos after the wedding. I could not be happier with the dress that Lace & Liberty made for me. After a dress fiasco at a different bridal shop (dress order arrived but dress would need more than $1000 in alterations and new seams would be added), I came to Lace & Liberty and they were able to see me quickly and rush order a new, made-to-measure dress in time for my wedding within 2 months of our initial conversation (I had an a-line dress with no lacing/beading). I worked with Nancy and the dress came out better than I had originally hoped for. I was ignorantly confident that I wanted mikado fabric because that's what I had tried at the first shop, but Nancy took the time to double check that with me and gave me some other fabrics to evaluate. I ended up going with duchess satin which was an AMAZING change because it is such a lighter fabric and gave a more matte look, which was a lot more fitting for my outdoor wedding -- it also rained and so the satin fabric was incredibly more comfortable to carry around than mikado would have been. I'm so thankful for Nancy for helping me select the best fabric for me and for gracefully and patiently tolerating my dress anxieties after my experience with the other bridal shop. I was sent progress photos to provide feedback on the dress and once the dress came in, the skirt hem was perfect (which is usually the most expensive thing to alter) and there needed to be only a few straightforward adjustments (straps, waist, bustle). I fell in love with a few dresses in my first appoint with Nancy, where she took notes on what I liked and didn't from different dresses and offered ideas on modifications/customizations. I went back for 2 follow-up appointments with Nancy (great to have the consistency) where I got opinions from loved ones and evolved what I was looking for in a dress with her question prompts. I ultimately found my dress somewhere else as the style I was looking for evolved (more beaded/sparkly v. lace), but I 100% recommend this dress shop if your style matches what's on their website. More than anything, I wanted things to work out with Lace and Liberty. This is the first dress I had custom made -- something made clear at the start of this process. Throughout my wedding journey, though, I didn't work with a vendor that left me feeling so bad. The result was a lot of tears, wasted money on a dress that I will never wear and have no idea what to do about it, and a rush job to find an off-the-rack dress that is a billion times better. Things that really weigh on me from my experience: - I was measured TWICE for my dress and what I got was incredibly too big. The staff's response was "I lost weight", which sadly was the opposite of what happened. My off-the-rack dress needed minimal altering, but somehow my custom dress needed much more. - The staff and the owner were pretty disconnected with each other which left me feeling more and more confused. - The icing on the cake was during the final proofing, me explicitly asking them not to do something and them doing it anyways because "they thought it looked better" Maybe this is an experience one should expect from a custom maker. And if that's what you know going in, then godspeed. For me, it was the worst decision I made during my wedding journey. read more

I really really wanted to love Lace & Liberty but it was ultimately one of the more underwhelming parts of my wedding planning experience. I loved working with Nancy, my stylist, and she instantly made me feel at ease. However, I ran into several challenges. First, the initial version of the "made to order" dress that they sent me looked completely off and I had to jump on a Zoom call with the team to explain my feedback. It was frustrating that the quality was such that I needed to "QA" the dress. Second, the dress was purposely made too long. Although the team was transparent about needing alterations, I know for a fact that my height + shoes did not change from measurement. The fact that I needed to pay extra to get the dress hemmed when my height measurements were taken was disappointing. My issue while dress shopping was that while most things were lovely, they were absurdly expensive for what they were. Dresses that felt more interesting were even more expensive, inaccessibly so. So, I looked for custom shops and found Lace & Liberty. Being local, I was able to do all my visits in the shop itself (nothing virtual). I worked with Rozie, who was attentive and patient as I deliberated over all the options. It took several visits to finalize the design, then a few more months of waiting while the dress was actually made. Rozie kept me updated, letting me know when to come in to choose things in person and when things were progressing behind the scenes. I went slightly over budget, but I could've stayed within it with what the shop had to offer (I just decided to go for more custom elements). When the dress was done and I went to try it on, I was really impressed by how well it fit. It did end up needing alterations, which Lace & Liberty makes clear is to be expected with all dresses. This would be my one critique of the shop's process - it would've been really helpful to have an alterations department within (or at least affiliated with) the shop, as it was a pain to find a seamstress I trusted and then do a whole new process with them. I will also note that I am plus-sized and felt very comfortable with Rozie and the shop in general, which is unfortunately not always the case. Lace and Liberty provided an excellent experience, taking the time to meet with me over video and discussing extensively over email to determine how they could make the perfect dress. Like many brides during the pandemic, wedding dress shopping during the height of COVID seemed like an impossible task. After a handful of visits to various Bay Area and Southern California bridal salons, I made an appointment at Lace & Liberty after remembering one of my friends raving about her experience. Ali made my friends and I feel so welcomed despite having to stay 6 feet apart with masks on! She actively listened to my previous experiences and what type of gown I was interested in. I was hesitant to make a custom gown, but I AM SO HAPPY I DID! It was within my budget, comfortable, required very minimal alterations, easy to travel with to San Diego for the wedding, and most importantly, represented me! The one shoulder neckline and one shoulder galaxy cape were a showstopper! I also had so much fun choosing the fabrics and was surprised to learn that lace and beading could be light since gowns of similar material that I tried on before were heavy. I highly recommend Lace & Liberty for their outstanding customer service, attention to detail, creativity, and warmth. I wish I had given more thought to having Ali design a reception outfit and a traditional Vietnamese dress. After trying on over 50 dresses, I decided to give Lace & Liberty a try. They wowed me with tales of having a one-of-a-kind, "semi-custom" dress. I made an empowered choice to go with Lace & Liberty in order to get what I really wanted: a dress that combined the sweetheart neckline, the blush base fabric with white lace, and the "fit and flare" or "soft mermaid" shape. They made a beautiful dress. Unfortunately what I got back from them was not "fit and flare" and it didn't have a sweetheart neckline. One out of three is not my idea of success. I kept mentioning these two elements as the dress was being made. Eventually they said it was "made to specifications" and shipped me the dress. We'd requested that the "flare point" be mid-way down my thighs - low enough to show my curves but high enough so that I could walk, dance, sit etc. Despite my bridesmaid and I pointing that exact spot out again and again during the final design session and despite the fact that I mentioned that again and again during the creation process, what I got back was an A-line dress that emphasized the widest part of my body and made me look dumpy, not curvy. Rozie was so nice and fun to work with, I wish I could give them 5 stars as a lot of other reviewers have, but I just can't. At times during the process I would stare at my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choice dress photos with tears in my eyes. If only ... When I looked at the two Lace & Liberty dress photos side by side (the design photo for my Lace & Liberty Dress and the reality of the dress I actually ended up with) I felt a mix of sorrow, anger, and regret. At that point I was ready to give them 3 stars. Fortunately Marissa at Tailor Maid worked magic on the dress. I'll save the full details for their review. Let's just say they rebuilt significant portions of the dress. With THEIR help, I ended up with a fit and flare dress with a unique blend of a v-neck and sweetheart neckline. In the end, the dress was beautiful. I loved it. However, I ended up spending nearly as much in alterations on the dress as I had on the dress itself and more than twice as much as my second choice dress. I'm giving Lace & Liberty 4 stars (not 3, and not 5) because the dress was amazing - with a warning ... Make sure you have an unlimited budget, unlimited time, and unlimited patience. Be prepared for the possibility that you won't get what you expect back and you will NEED an expert, creative, artist tailor to fix the dress. If you're aware of and okay with those possibilities, you'll have a beautiful, one of a kind dress - at a significant emotional and financial cost. read more

tl;dr You could have a one-of-a-kind dress made to *your* measurements for LESS than the price of dresses at other stores. I highly *highly* recommend this shop for your wedding dress! Before coming to L&L, I thought about buying a dress online but felt it was too risky with the lack of returns. I went to other stores in-person and tried on expensive $4,000+ dresses that were boring/unflattering/not me. I was stressed about whether I would ever find a dress that I actually liked. Then I came to Lace & Liberty, where I worked with Rozie. First of all, Rozie (along with the team) designs the dresses herself so she has so much knowledge of what customizations are or are not possible. In my very first try-on, she was telling me "we can replace the bodice", "we can get rid of the pearls", etc. Second of all, Rozie was just an incredible treat to work with. Even when I thought "oh this is good enough", Rozie is dedicated to making sure the dress is literally *perfect*. In the end, I wanted a wedding dress with a touch of red (but not too much!) as a nod to my mixed half-American half-Chinese heritage. Rozie sourced ombre white-to-red fabric for me that was *perfect*. She gave me lots of photos of the entire process, from sourcing fabric to previewing the dress to "this is the dress in the factory do you want any more changes". When I tried the dress on, it was exactly what I had expected because I had been brought along the journey the entire time. I then brought the dress to the seamstress because I had been told that you will still need a few alterations. My seamstress was shocked at how well the dress fit--no need for hemming, no adjustments needed to the waist. My initial fitting with the seamstress took literally less than 10 minutes because the dress fit so perfectly. At the end of the day, I got a unique custom dress for less than the price of off-the-rack dresses at other stores. I also got to work with Rozie--I wish I could work with her more often! I will definitely be recommending this store to all of my friends getting married in the next few years! read more

Really really enjoyed my experience with Lace & Liberty. After visiting several bridal shops and feeling like something was missing on each dress I tried on, I was excited to find a place where I could design and customize my own. First, the space is beautiful and makes you feel special. Nancy was so helpful, responsive and friendly throughout the process as we talked about what I liked, didn't like, and the potential customizations I could make. It felt very collaborative. Finally, the end product is gorgeous and very well made! The dress fit well since it's made to your measurements so tailor costs should be low (and Lace & Liberty is great at consulting on where to go and how much you should be paying!). I'm still a few months out from my wedding date, but I'm so excited to show this dress off and know that no one else has something like it. read more

Lace & Liberty made my dream wedding dress a reality! I'm local to Noe Valley and was able to go to their location and try on a few gowns. Rozita was amazing in giving me ideas of how to customize. The second time I went Ali helped me decide on my final dress vision, which was basically the top half of one dress, the bottom half of another, and some sleeve customizations. Throughout the process Lace & Liberty provided photo updates as they were making my dress and worked with me as I had questions and feedback. The end product was more than I could have ever wanted, and to top it off they custom made a veil for me as well. I never wanted the whole traditional bride thing, so it was with some reluctance that I decided to go wedding dress shopping. My prerequisite was no WHITE. I wanted something personal and brightly colored for our Mexico beach wedding. When I went into Lace & Liberty, I was greeted by Alison (Ali) who was just the greatest. When I told her I didn't really know what I wanted and I only knew not white and not too long (feet in ocean for wedding on beach) and she had me try a few styles to see what kind of fabrics I liked, and what type of cuts for the top of the dress. Then, she drew me a design and this woman is a goddess of design! I absolutely loved it! Her sketch was perfect, but I still wondered whether the dress would meet my expectations. Well, it surpassed my expectations. It is perfect. It is stunning. It is exactly what I wanted and then some. I just picked up my wedding dress and it was even better than I could have imagined! When I came to Lace & Liberty, I didn't have an exact vision in my head of what I wanted my dress to be, but I did know there were parts of other dresses that I had tried on at other bridal salons that I did and didn't like. I was nervous about the idea of a custom dress, but I actually started with one of their designs and customized certain aspects (e.g. widening the straps, raising the back, changing the lining color). Ali was so patient and helpful during the process, making sure the dress was what I wanted and not what my family wanted, as well as giving me confidence when I started to second guess my choices. My mum and I came to Lace & Liberty with a modest budget and a simple idea of what we wanted my elopement dress to look like and were amazed by the experience at Lace & Liberty. After visiting a handful of traditional bridal stores I found a dress that I loved but the pressure to 'buy now before the tariffs' and the complicated size ordering process for a curvy person seemed like the dress I wanted would not be what I ended up with.
