A really wonderful spa - the providers are top notch. Their products are all Eminence and highest quality. I've been to a lot of places for facials, and this is by far my favorite. Consistently excellent, clean, professional and warm. Just did microneedling, and it was a great experience. They'll tell you about the products but I've never been upsold and never felt like I was being used as a tool to extract money. They just really want you to feel and look great. Learned of this spa from a deal on Travelzoo. They had just opened for the day and I was the first appointment. The owner was very warm and welcoming as I filled out the paperwork. It's a cute, small spa and I love the fact that they are holistic. They are big on essential oils and natural products and I don't think there are enough spas like that. They make all of the natural products that they use during your service and they also sell the products they make. I was sent home with some goodies - a full sized product as part of the Travelzoo deal and they even gave me a sample of their scrub and a piece of chocolate. For my appointment, I had both a massage and a facial and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them. I hope to come back for more services soon! read more

Everyone at Ladan was extremely friendly but my mother and I both felt like we had been ripped off after our massages last week. I booked deep tissue and she booked a Swedish massage. I know from half a lifetime of living with my mother that she likes very light massages. Afterwards she said she felt like she paid $150 to simply have someone rub oil on her body. I felt the same, despite asking the masseuse, Maysie, three times to please use more pressure. The first two requests made no difference. After the third request she sighed, said something like "it's fine" after I apologized for asking (as it seemed to upset her), and she started using more pressure. That said, she seems to have missed that crucial massage 101 lesson that distinguishes muscles from bones. She started putting all of her might into pushing on some of my bones...of course, that's not going to get you very far as a masseuse, and not exactly what you're in the room for when you request a deep tissue massage. I will say that her pressure did improve considerably after my third request, and every now and then she'd stumble on an actually tight muscle or tendon, but it only lasted for about ten minutes. After that she went back to gently stroking me as if she was petting a cat. It reminded me of the way a boyfriend might touch me...very gentle, but not what I want from my masseuse. Yuck. Afterwards Maysie stared at me with wide eyes as she told me she had "never" encountered muscles as tense as mine. She asked if I stretched (uhh...yes...I work out and I stretch a lot) and if was getting enough electrolytes (again, yes), as if I was the only person in the world with tight muscles who would book a massage. I do believe that she has probably given so few massages, and gotten so little feedback, that she's unused to massaging those who have tight muscles. That much was clear. But her idea that I am on the worse end of muscle-tightness spectrum is a delusion. I've gotten many deep tissue massages from many masseuses who saw nothing out of the ordinary. Maysie, unfortunately, is not really a deep tissue masseuse. She's simply represented as one by Ladan Spa. If you like extremely gentle massages or simply want to be touched by a stranger or have cream rubbed on your body, she's probably just your style. My mother separately sent her lukewarm feedback regarding her Swedish massage to the spa and she was offered a whopping discount of $30 off another massage from another masseuse. Yippee. That's after spending $300 on two massages, neither of which was a real massage. read more

Relaxation Level - 4/5 (thus the four stars, obvi ;-) To start, this was my first-ever massage. For Valentine's day, I scheduled a couple's hibiscus massage with my wife, who has been wanting me to get a massage with her for ages. So keep in mind I have no real frame of comparison. The therapists did a good job helping us feel comfortable during the massage. They checked on the pressure being applied and always kept us appropriately covered. They played relaxing music and did a good job with the massage. My wife said it was very well done (and she's the pro in our marriage at this). I would have liked a bit more time to talk to them before the massage started. When we compared notes, I would've liked work on my feet (which she got) and my wife would've liked a scalp massage included (and I got a scalp massage), but we weren't ever asked. Afterwards, only my masseure came back to talk about where I had tense areas, etc. While they did serve free tea and some amazing chocolate, I wish there were an area to relax before or after the massage. They have a small waiting room, so we basically had to leave right back into the car instead of relaxing after. read more

I had a really great microdermabrasion experience with Demi. I opted for a light organic peel (clove, jalapeño and cinnamon) and she threw in a light treatment to handle a breakout I was dealing with. Demi was very knowledgeable about skin care and the cystic acne I was experiencing. I appreciate the overall value of this experience, especially in Virginia and I'm happy I have a place that I can afford monthly visits to and still receive a high quality service. I can't wait to see how my skin looks in a few days and definitely plan to return, as I was admiring Demi's lashes she happened to mention she does lash extensions as well! I read many wonderful things about this place and the reviews were on point! They make their own facial and spa products. What's better? They don't try to sell them to you. How many times have an aesthetician try to sell me products in the middle of a massage, facial or haircut? I'm glad they didn't do that here. My aesthetician was very thorough with my facial, neck and upper chest. My facial included extractions. They were uncomfortable. But I felt more golden with every extraction. She also reviewed skin care regimens with me, as well as provided me with samples of the products she used on my skin. I have to say I left the spa with a motivation to care for my skin more. Empowerment is special and if a spa can give that to you, I think it's deserving of praise. read more
