I had ear length hair and have not had a haircut in three years. Cut for $45.00, shampooed and coils for $65.00 done March 27. Not impressed. I showed the barber a picture of a women's tapered cut and yet she cut too much on the back and it's uneven. I have a James Brown cut!!!!! Also, this young Lady wanted to schooled me on maintaining my natural curly hair. I've been rocking curly hair before she was born. Now I understand why they request payment in advance. I can't recommend going here enough. Erinn did an amazing job with my big chop. I have wavy not quite curly hair and a pretty round face. I was looking to go from long hair to an above the shoulders wolf cut. I feel like this haircut is what my hair always wanted to be but I was too tied to boring cuts to consider it. Walked into Lady Clipper for my first time yesterday. Loved the vibe! Small shop with a winding staircase leading to more space. The shop was spotless with nice background music. My appointment was with the owner, Lesley. I was a tad early because I wanted to make sure I could find a parking space. I got lucky and parked three cars from the shop. As I walked in I was greeted warmly by Lesley who offered me a mask (I had one). She wrapped up with her client and directed me to her chair. I was so excited to be there! She took a look at my hair, asked me what I envisioned and went to work. Fifteen minutes later the cut was done! LOVED IT! To the bowl I went for a good wash, a little leave on conditioner and a light dab of setting gel to lock in my curls and done! Already made my next appointment. Thanks Lesley! read more

So I decided (for myriad reasons) that I needed to shave my hair off. I've been to this location twice. The first time experience was lovely. The second time burned me BAD. Lady clippers does a "big chop" cut. $65 plus tip. I tried calling. Lol ..this place is like dating a Gen Z'er....no calls, just texts, haha... You book online and you also pay...AND tip before you receive your service. I'm not a fan of tipping ahead of time. Mostly because I'm pretty generous with tipping but if I have no clue what the experience and service is like...and if I'm pre-paying...i am going to do the absolute minimum for that tip. Which isn't my preference. It's street parking. I only ever come here mid week, so parking hasn't been too bad to find. You enter the shop from the upstairs entrance not the bottom one. You walk down a spiral staircase and voila...you're in the shop. Pop a squat and wait. The first time I came they did me solid. Shaved off mid-back length hair and left feeling great. It was right before Christmas and the kind woman who hacked off my hair was affirming and chill and took great care. Can't say enough! Truly. That haircut was a solid almost 4 stars. The next time I came in, it was about 8 months later. I booked with Angelique and it was by far one of the most horrifying experiences I've ever had. When it was time for my appointment, Angelique just seemed upset and mad. But you know, ppl in the service industry are humans and should be allowed to have bad days. So that didn't bother me. I just decided to stay quiet. I told her what I wanted, was like...listen...I want a curly mohawk, this is looking like a damn mullet, haha...I need some shaping in the back bc it's kicking out terribly at the base of my neck. Y'all....2 seconds into shaving my faded part of the cut...this woman clips my ear and it starts bleeding. Now I'm tough as shit so this kind of stuff won't make me flinch, but I FELT it. And suddenly Angelique is saying...oh you must have had a scab on your ear that came off and it's bleeding. Y'all...be fucking for real. She was already in a stank mood so I was like...whaaaaatever. I didn't even say anything. What proceeded was one of the most painful, rougH, MEAN cuts I have ever had. I have NEVER walked out of a barber with a SORE head. A SORE HEAD. Like I said, I have a tough as fuck head, and this cut had me WINCING. W-I-N-C-I-NG. When it came time for the cut part of the top of my hair...she was so brutal with it. I'm someone who will unapologetically ask a stylist to cut my hair until it feels right. So I was doing that, and she just wouldn't listen. She felt like she was getting more and more annoyed. When the cut was over she literally left before I was even out of the chair. I had hair all over my face and neck. The barber next to me who had a client in her chair...brought over a towel and helped clean me up This second cut was back in August and I swear I sat on posting this for MONTHS. But y'all...I still haven't gotten over it. A woman's hair is sacred. As a queer woman, it felt AMAZING to find a barber shop run by women of color who ensure you have a safe place to come get a BARBER cut. My 2 star isn't a reflection of the shop as a whole. I've been to Lady Clipper twice in my search for a barber more convenient for my commute. I didn't want to leave my previous barber, but since I've moved, I can't realistically make it to her. Pros: decent location, booking system is easy and someone is always available, shop itself has a nice vibe, Daisy and Lesley were both personable The first time I went, I think Gabby cut my hair, and my cut was pretty basic. I have shaved sides and just asked for the sides to be cut to about a 1. The last time I went, I asked for the same thing with a fade. I also asked my barber, Daisy, to trim my hair on top. Unfortunately I must not have communicated what I meant by trim very well, since I'm now missing about an inch and a half off my hair, which is really shocking when it's in any state other than picked out. It looked okay in the shop, if a little short, but I was hoping I could stretch it as normal. Unfortunately, it's much too short to do my usual twist outs. I don't know how to style my hair anymore, and I feel so ugly. I've booked an appointment elsewhere to get braids tomorrow to try and save it. Advice/TLDR: patronize this shop over others in DC, but be very clear what you want from each aspect of your cut. My fade was done very well, but my hair is too short to style now. read more

I had a very... interesting.. "lob" done by another salon about 6-8 weeks ago. It was an uneven disaster and left all the volume on the back of my head, and was embarrassingly uneven. After spending time pondering and researching what to do, and letting my hair grow out a bit, I determined a back of the head undercut and cleaning up of the rest of the "Lob" was a good idea. Made an appointment with Jo. She listened to me, made me feel immediately comfortable, and did quite a great job on my undercut, so it's only visible when I pull my hair in a low ponytail. She trimmed up the rest of the "lob" as best she could, which was quite impressive since it was a disaster. It looks 100X better, even if it will still be in a ponytail most of the time. Undercut is very even. Shop is clean and cozy. Will be returning for another shave and trim with Jo in 6-8 weeks. Thank you Jo (Woodard)! I started going to Lesley when she was in another shop - many many years ago. Her professionalism and skills made it a no brainer to follow her to her own shop. Fortunately, I work in downtown dc so for me the shop location is super convenient. However, I live near Baltimore and have no problem coming to her shop on a non work day. She's just that skilled!! My philosophy is either I can spend either time or money and I prefer to spend my money to ensure I don't waste my time. This place seems way overhyped! I got a haircut with a simple design and even something as basic as this wasn't done well. It was overpriced, mediocre at best and that was even after a lot of back and forth with the Stylist Daisy. She came off as inexperienced and not very skilled. She seems like she still has a lot to learn. I'm disappointed and wouldn't go back. Maybe the other barbers are better. I debated back and forth before posting this because this is a black business and I want to support it. I was on the fence about writing a review for this establishment. The energy in this place was amazing. The ladies were very warm and inviting. The establishment was clean and very stylish. Gabby was the barber I choose and I was satisfied with my undercut and simple design. I'm giving them 3 stars due to the cons listed: Finding parking was challenging, $46.00 for a undercut cleanup and simple design was a bit much and honestly I don't think it was worth it. Lastly they debited the $46.00 prior to me arriving at the shop. My appointment was at 2:30 I arrived about 1:55 the money was taken about 1:40. I'm accustom to being charged after the service is provided or once I arrive. I don't think I'll go back or refer this establishment. However I strongly suggest you go and make your own opinion. Every time I come here I am greeted and treated so kindly. I love that all the employees are women of color and they're 100% about customer satisfaction. The women here are very skilled with their hands and keep their licenses up to date. Before sitting down they clean the area, the combs, brushes etc throughly. I love this place. It's clean, friendly and while they seem to specialize in woman's barbering, they do men and women's hair. I went there a year ago when I chopped off all of my hair on my own.
