This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

I came in for my usual gray coverage, and they did a GREAT job with the color. Unfortunately, the haircut was a very different experience. I showed the stylist a reference photo of my usual longer, layered cut. She said she wanted to even out my hair, which sounded completely reasonable, but she removed several inches without confirming how much length I was comfortable losing. I left with a short, rounded, mushroom-shaped bob that looked nothing like the reference and made my face look much rounder than I wanted. I was so mortified that I took a photo outside and sent it to my longtime stylist in Southern California, who replied, "whoa." I'm leaving three stars because the staff and atmosphere were lovely and the color was excellent. But I really hope the salon encourages clearer communication before making a major change in length. In the meantime, I'll be wearing a ponytail until it grows out.

I decided that it's finally time to make a review of my experience. My appointment was with Eunice. I had done a ton of research about where to trust my hair now that a former stylist of mine stopped cutting hair for a living. She recommended this salon. After reading all the stylists instagrams I decided on Eunice. I arrived on time and was seated in her chair. She had the worst attitude and demeanor as soon as I sat down. She asked me about my hair routine and I told her I used Keratase hair oil as a finishing product and she scoffed at me and said "you put hair oil on dry hair?" like I was some sort of idiot. "Um, yes, this is common," I thought. But I was so shocked I just smiled. Then we were talking about what kind of cut I wanted and I asked her if she had any suggestions and she literally said "no, that is up to you." This woman was literally charging 125 for haircuts and would not give me any suggestions. I totally regretted making this appointment at that point but I thought it was too late, and didn't want to be rude (I think I was the only one). I ended up getting a cut that was fine, and when she blowdried it she made no effort to style it. Simply dried, no real volume, nothing. The whole experience was 45 minutes start to finish. It was a haircut I probably could have gotten for half the price elsewhere without the horrible attitude. When I went to checkout, it is the only hair stylist EVER that I did not tip. 125 for the cut was already too much (and I've paid more for haircuts). I think she charges more now. Perhaps the other stylists here are better but I have no interest in going back to a salon where this type of behavior is ok (based on my reading of reviews, I am not an isolated case).

Unfortunately they refused to give me any refund (aside from the money back they charged me for time not spent) and my chase sapphire credit card was no help to recoup any of the costs. I had to shell out an additional $300 to remedy the unfortunate hair situation they created. Save your money and go somewhere with stylists who know what they're doing.

Good haircut and fair pricing. I'm pretty particular about getting my haircut and got to my regular barber once a week. I found myself needing a cut while in DC and this shop came recommended. Atmosphere is fine, it appears most of the barbers are women and it's a Vietnamese shop. I don't think that should matter but it seems to be pointed out in other reviews. It clearly caters to military/law enforcement with the special pricing and the patches on the wall. Bring cash if you can. My only knock of one star is I asked for the Wahl Five star to trim around my neck and ears. If you've ever had someone use one you know it feels amazing and is actually closer than a straight blade. I was told that the straight blade had already been done and that it's closer. I'm sorry but that's just not true. read more

Awesome haircut, fast, great quality, and friendly haircutters. I've had haircuts by two folks there now (Jenny and Raymond, I think), both were great and the price is terrific, esp. for DC. Plus, even better benefit in DC-- the location can't be beat, right off of Eastern Market metro. On top of that, they continue the Asian barber tradition of giving a warm neck shave/head massage after the cut, which feels great. Makes me think of the fantastic haircuts I used to get when stationed in Japan with the military. I hope they stick around; it's a great place and great, convenient barbershop. read more

I love this place. Located in the Eastern Market neighborhood it is very welcomed addition to the hill. The service is top notch! A great hair cut, scalp massage with a hot towel to finish. Free sodas or water. What more could you ask for in a barber shop? The prices are very reasonable. I can't wait to see Jenny to get my hair cut again! I wanted to note that I've seen them cut hair of people from the rainbow of ethnicities that makes up our great city (and they have been genuinely pleased) so have no fear in giving them a try! read more

I followed Jajos from Manassas where their previous location was. Hands down the best haircut possible. The service is great, never have to wait long, and it is in a great location. Everyone at Jajos is very personable and it makes for a great hair cut experience. I recommend Jajos to anyone looking for a nice clean, fresh, professional haircut. Easy, cheap and no fuss barber with great perks like free bottled water and a steam-towel head massage included free. Best part was the haircut, which came out perfect. Not only did he do an excellent job, enough to warrant my taking time to write this review, but he was also super friendly and talkative. They recently added haircuts to the upstairs and I just received my first cut from Linda who is located up there. She did a terrific job on the cut and threw in at the end an awesome shoulder and temple/scalp massage which melted away all of the days tension. Came in on a Saturday morning around 9:30 am. No wait, sat me down, asked me what I wanted, and went to work. Don was my barber and he was obviously detail oriented- checked the mirror often, went around my head multiple times and did exactly what I wanted. But, I asked the barber to give me an exact haircut as the one in a picture from their own Yelp page and ended up getting something completely different. I had to live with that haircut for a month. The place is cheap but beware. If you get a good haircut you like, then sure this can be a place you goto but they are not professionals by any means. read more

The stylist told me, "This happens sometimes and to just cut the ends and it'll be fine." I've been getting blowouts for YEARS and have never experienced this kind of curl damage or unwanted straightening. I even showed her a video of my hair from two days before my appointment, yet she insisted nothing she did caused the damage. I have never encountered such poor customer service. No solution or apology was offered for the damage done. If you have curly hair (or any hair at all), DO NOT COME HERE!

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding the service I received at…read moreyour establishment. I arrived right at opening time, and to my surprise, there was no one to greet me. One of your barbers came down the stairs, saw me, and didn't even acknowledge my presence with a hello. When I asked if it might be possible to squeeze me in, he seemed dismissive from the start. I showed him a photo of the haircut I wanted -- I'll attach the image below for your reference -- and kept it open on my phone so he could easily refer back to it. Instead of using the reference image, he brushed it aside. When he started combing my hair, he became visibly frustrated because I had hair product in -- huffing and puffing as though it was an inconvenience to do his job. I clearly asked for a zero, very low fade, and specifically said not to cut the back of my hair at all. My hair was even longer than the style in the reference photo, as I've been growing it out for over a year to achieve a particular look. Despite my clear instructions, he proceeded to shave the entire back of my head, destroying the style I've spent so long trying to grow out. When I told him, "Oh no, you shaved all my hair," he shrugged and continued cutting. I had to stop him mid-cut. What I was left with was not only a completely different style but a haircut that doesn't even qualify as a good fade. This experience was genuinely upsetting -- I was shaking when I left. What should have been a routine cut turned into something that felt careless and disrespectful. I am including the photo I used as a reference and a photo of the result for your comparison. I'd appreciate your honest feedback: does this haircut resemble the style I requested in any way? Have only gotten beard trim and shoe shine, but both services were done fast and well. The wait…read moretime was also minimal. I found the new location to be well lit and comfortable. If it feels slightly pricey, remember you're in the middle of downtown. Every business has to charge a little more because the rent is expensive. It is well worth it for the convenience of being able to get a cut during your lunch break or right after work.
