Ladybird Bakery is THE BEST BAKERY, hands down! It's become my favorite bakery of all time. I have and will continue to endure the unreliable F train from Manhattan to Brooklyn (1hr trip) if it means I get my hands on a cake from this bakery. I originally discovered them last year when I wanted a custom cake for my dearest friend, but I didn't want to pay a fortune for it. Ladybird not only has reasonable prices on custom designs, but they also do an amazing job! You can pick the flavors on the cake base, the filling, and the frosting. You do pay additional on frosting colors used and elaborate designs. I paid less than $100 on the cake and tip included. Amazing! Now, I recently bought a mini Brooklyn Blackout cake and mini Carrot cake for my partner's birthday! The staff was extremely kind and asked if I wanted to put a message on the mini cake for no additional cost. It was such a nice offer and made the cake look more fitting to the occasion. Moving on to the cakes themselves. The Brooklyn blackout cake is my absolute favorite. I wasn't really a big chocolate cake fan before until I had theirs. It's very rich, dense, moist, and sweet. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth! It is very thiccc so here's a tip: have a glass of milk or water nearby! The carrot cake was also amazing! You can really taste the spices in the cake and it is also rich, but less sweet. The nuts add another element to the cake and make it more dimensional. HIGHLY recommend and will most definitely be back for all my baked goods needs! read more

I've been coming to Ladybird since it was 2 little red hens in the early aughts. They have lovely tarts and if you're looking for a cupcake or cake that is a little more dense (in a good way), this is the place to go. Their cupcakes/cakes are a bit more of the old fashioned style compared to the magnolia bakerys of the world (which I also enjoy). They're great for a custom birthday cake and the results are reliably good. There's a lot to be said for reliability. I bought a scone this morning and it was....bad. It was the blueberry oatmeal scone and tasted predominantly of baking soda with blueberry bursts to break up the medicinal flavor. I threw it away after forcing myself to eat most of it. I wouldn't go with the morning baked goods. I have long enjoyed that there's leftover cake and pie cut up from the day before for a couple of dollars. I'm a longtime fan of Two Little Red Hens, the Upper East Side bakery that has unfortunately been closed for the past few years. Discovering Ladybird Bakery has allowed me to enjoy those same desserts once again, just in a different neighborhood. When they first opened over two decades ago, Ladybird even shared the Two Little Red Hens name. Are they worth the trek to Park Slope? I'd say so. The Brooklyn Blackout cake is rich and decadent, and tastes nearly identical to other Brooklyn Blackout desserts, except that Ladybird's has less chocolate pudding filling. The apple tart is crisp, with overlaid apple slices forming a swirl shape, a lightly sweet apple filling, and a buttery crust. It is, without a doubt, among the best tarts I've had in recent memory. I was interested in trying a pie as well, but they aren't sold by the slice, so I'll have to return sometime and buy one to impress guests. read more

I went for some cupcakes 6 cost me 23 bucks each has a different price. -First they dont have a designated cupcake box they all go in a regular box so if you are taking the train keep this in mind. - They are so big so you get your moneys worth.... but so heavy . Disclaimer - I have never personally been to Ladybird. I am lucky enough to have a wife that drives past on her way home from work and brings me pie! And boy, are Ladybird's pies amazing. The interior is so unique with the low-set ceiling and spiral staircase to the left of the entrance. I visited recently and made the mistake of getting a cupcake rather than the 4 inch cake. I didn't think I would enjoy these cupcakes as much as I did because I've found most cupcakes to be super sweet and sugary. HOWEVER, I must say that these cupcakes are delicious and not sickeningly sweet. In fact, we gobbled up 1 of the 4 cupcakes so fast that I didn't even get to take a picture of it! (It was the blackout cupcake- absolutely delicious, super moist, great for chocolate lovers). The rest of the cupcakes weren't as moist as the blackout cupcake but had their own merits. Red velvet- was a bit dry but the cream cheese frosting was on point and paired well with the cake portion. Chocolate with buttercream frosting & sprinkles - frosting was not too sweet, which was good since the chocolate cupcake was quite heavy and reminded me of fudge. Get the blackout cupcake! They cakes were so cute and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The bakery is very quaint and cute with a window seat and neatly displayed bakeries. I personally lean more toward the fruit-inspired cakes at ladybird and found the more rich ones like the vanilla very dense and filling. Whichever you prefer there's a sweet for you here! read more

Bought their Brooklyn Blackout Cake last week on a Wednesday morning for my friends birthday. I just walked in and ordered the medium size cake with the flowers. They were able to pipe in "happy birthday" on the spot. The both staff members that were present up front were friendly and nice! Everyone loved and enjoyed the cake. It was suuuuuper decadent. The Brooklyn blackout cake (which happens to actually be from Brooklyn) is amazing chocolate cake layered with pudding and covered in a dark chocolate frosting. It's one of the most amazing birthday cakes you can give to a friend or loved one (especially if you plan on eating it too). The small ($43 for a 6in) to large cakes are reasonably priced And I was reading today that their wedding cakes start at $9s per head - that seems like a pretty good deal, and I can only imagine how amazing the wedding cakes would be. If you aren't around the Park Slope area, you should absolutely make this a destination for the Brooklyn blackout cake. Ordered our wedding cake from here and loved it. I actually grew up down the block from this bakery, and would go there as a kid with my parents, so it felt particularly sentimental. The cake was delicious, the tasting process was seamless and enjoyable, the person we worked with was friendly and helpful, and nothing felt overdone or overpriced. They were especially helpful in working with our budget, and suggested a display cake and a sheet cake so that we'd have a beautiful cake but would be able to serve everyone. The display cake was beautiful and exactly what we asked for--we actually found one on their instagram that we liked, but I wanted different colours. I went in and recoloured it in Photoshop, and they recreated it exactly as we'd hoped. They were also pretty good about working with allergens--the groom has a fatal allergy to tree nuts and peanuts, so we were very cautious about where we got the cake from. His allergy is bad enough that we didn't want to risk a cross contamination induced ER trip in the middle of our reception, so he did end up with a separate groom's cake (since Ladybird Bakery does have nuts in the kitchen, although they took precautions and prepared our cake separately) but we felt confident enough about the safety to have it at the wedding and to have our guests eating it. Ultimately the groom tried it the next day and was fine. I highly recommend this bakery and I'm so glad they're still around! read more

My buddy scott learned that the OG two little red hens was open. Prospering. And just over the little body of water in a hustling borough called Brooklyn. It was called lady bird bakery. Fast forward some time and Scott was hustling, in the middle of a tremendous bike ride to recover the cupcakes. Scott, fresh off a 50 mile run and one week before his wedding, managed to rescue the cupcakes for us all to try within the safety of our homes. the chocolate blackout, the lemon, and the strawberry.
