After 10 years, you might wonder why the negative review. Yes, Dr. Spier is technically a good vet,…read morethat's why I went to him for 10 plus years. But, he is also extremely mercenary, the most money grubbing vet I think I have ever visited. The straw that broke the camel's back was today. We went to Dr. Spier's to pick up $161 worth of medicine. While there, I saw Dr. Spier sitting in the back (it was a quiet day with no clients, probably due to the previous night's snow storm). I made an offhand comment about my little baby Leonard and asked him if he thought a crouching problem (a problem which I paid him to look at before Christmas, but hadn't determined a cause at that time) might be due to a luxating patella. He said, well we can check it real quick if you'd like. I hesitated and said, well, will it hurt Leonard? The vet said, no not at all, would you like to have it checked, Dr. In Training (sorry don't know her name) can do it. I said, well ok I guess. Dr. Spier said well go in the exam room. The Dr. In Training spent all of 2 minutes (if that) and said there were no problems with Leonard's patella. So, then we went to pay the bill (for the worm check for Leonard we thought - we had already paid $161 in medicine) and found out he was charging us for a full exam too! I was shocked, after 10 years, I sincerely thought this was merely a courtesy check, especially since Dr. Spier never even looked at Leonard! How could he charge me a full exam rate when he did not perform a full exam? My husband went ballistic in the office, but we paid the bill and left. Several months earlier, we had brought in our cat Leonardo for vaccinations and teeth cleaning and Leonard in for an exam regarding a scratch he had on his hind quarters (Leonard was not treated for the scratch). This cost us $500!! And, no teeth were extracted!! What was the $500 for? You'll never know with Dr. Spier because HE NEVER GIVES A RECEIPT!! Can you believe a vet that doesn't provide receipts? Well, just go to Dr. Spier and you will see for yourself. There was also a very painful incident with Dr. Spier several years ago with my son Neelix. Neelix was very ill, and the Dr. knew this. Neelix was my son and the Dr. knew this too. When it was time to make that final awful decision, I was holding Neelix in my arms in the vehicle and I just wanted the Dr. to come out to the car so that I wouldn't have to move poor Neelix. The doctor refused. That really should have been it for me, but like I said, I have found Dr. Spier to be extremely capable and knowledgeable and so I returned. There must be other capable and knowledgeable vets in our area and now my quest is to find them. Because, at least for me, I am finished being screwed by Dr. Spier.

Dr. Spier, Fulton Animal Hospital - do not recommend. Dr. Spier had two of my dogs under his care…read more Both large mixed breeds. Both were under his care since they were puppies. My senior dog last saw him at 10 years old. Not once did Dr. Spier ever recommend any diagnostics for him. A visit consisted of vaccination, weight check and heart worm check. We were handed a bill that didn't explain the break down of costs, only the total. Not one CBC/urinalysis was every recommended or run. My younger dog was medicated at three years old for aggression towards a child. He had 36 pounds of weight gain over a four year span that went unaddressed/undiscussed (scale is in the back at Fulton Animal Hospital so as a consumer we did not know at the time the extent of the weight gain). He diagnosed him with diabetes, failed to recommend/run any diagnostics (including urinalysis) and then vaccinated him with a series of seven vaccinations without ever discussing with us the risks of vaccinating a sick dog. Because he failed to properly disclose the risks, we didn't have the opportunity to make an informed decision as to what was in the best interest of our dog. Two days later he kept him over night, started him (at 97 pounds) on 35u of humulin N insulin (when his bg was 263 after eating), increased it to 40u the next day, dropped his blood glucose to LO (under 20) with one shot of 40u of insulin and told us to give him 40u BID (twice daily). He sent him home one hour after the LO reading, didn't disclose the hypoglycemia, and failed to note on his records that the LO reading was ever treated to make sure his blood glucose was in a safe range before he was sent home. A week later we called in his blood glucose readings, in which we skipped around seven shots due low readings we were seeing. We have those numbers but there is nothing in his records that show what they are. We were told to take him off insulin, that he may be in honeymoon. We went from 80u of insulin daily to zero. With NO follow up information. Four weeks went by before we found a new vet. Not once did he call to see how a dog who went from 80u insulin to zero was doing. Not once did he seem to recognize that his prescribed dosing recommendation contributed to the overdosing we were seeing. No once did he recommend we bring the dog back for further evaluation. He simply said to go from 80u to zero. Long story short...this same dog ended up having extremely high fasting cholesterol and triglyceride values. He ended up having pancreatitis. He ended up being hypothyroid. He ended up losing his vision to cataracts and was so weak and lethargic that he would fall forward many times a day. He ended up with a cervical spinal lesion which slowly robbed his mobility in all four legs. A lesion which required high doses of twice daily pred to help him walk. At nine years young our boy collapsed at home and was gone before we could get him to our vehicle for help. And why? His records show 36 pounds of weight gain. They show him being medicated for aggressive behavior. Right there, at three years old, he should have had blood work and a thyroid panel run. But Dr. Spier chose to put him on a hormonal drug and never offered a medical cause as an explanation for the aggressive behavior. At eight years old he diagnosed him diabetic and still failed to run any blood work/urinalysis. He never mentioned them as options, as had we understood what they were and why they would have been necessary, we would have approved them. What we learned: A little bit about hypothyroidism...it doesn't just happen. It's a progressive disease. Two of the earliest signs are unexplained weight gain and sudden aggression towards a child. Most hypothyroid dogs have repeat infections and/or loss of fur, but not all do. Our boy have a full thick coat. Many hypothyroid dogs are extremely lethargic. Our boy was nervous and reactive. Despite his weight he was fast and quite agile. But his behavior worsened over the years. Hypothyroid dogs can't clear lipids such as cholesterol and triglycerides from their systems. Dogs with high lipids are prone to pancreatitis, and for some dogs that pancreatitis can be subclinical. It was for our boy. Dogs who suffer repeated bouts of pancreatitis can have their pancreas scared to the point it no longer produces insulin. A dog who doesn't have insulin production on it's own is diagnosed as diabetic. Once he was transferred to the new vet, and someone took the time to educate us, he had five blood panels run in a 12 month window. Had Dr. Spier looked at his health history as a whole, had he taken the time to provide the care and guidance we'd expected, had he not been negligent in the treatment of the diabetes, our boy likely would still be here today.

I wish I could separate the two. We've now been taking both of our dogs (both miniature poodles) to Carm's Dog House consistently for almost 3 to 3 1/2 years now. It's actually the longest we've stayed with a grooming establishment. This review is more about the superb (in house) groomer Candice. She's fantastic, very patient, kind and most importantly willing to listen thoroughly to every detail of requests that you ask of her. She definitely has the personality and patience for this type of work. There have only been a few instances where we've noticed minor things that needed to be adjusted (nails not filed or trimmed enough or some spots of hair needing to be taken in more) to which we ALWAYS received a response; "please come back so we can fix it to make you happy". Most other establishments and/or groomers would give attitude and/or charge extra to fix or correct a minor task (all fixable within 2 min). Candice is exceptional at what she does, very welcoming and personable and we can definitely tell she's a dog lover who portrays all what you'd want in someone caring for your pet. Carm's has raised their prices over the last few years but we decided to stay due to Candice. She's outstanding at her job and only improved over the years at her craft! I only took one star away due to the nails and shampoo request not being fulfilled - I'm certain however there won't be a problem in satisfying this and I'll update review immediately when this is complete.

If you are assigned Dr. Alexandra Yiambilis, a first year vet resident, ask for another resident vet or to speak with the Attending vet. After reading other reviews, they push euthanasia without trying other options. Alexandra Yiambilis (who I do not consider a vet doctor or a human being) lied to me and to the team taking care of my sweet cat and pushed for euthanasia on the phone even before I met her. When I first spoke with her on the phone and asked how my cat was doing and if her diarrhea was better, she barked back, "I don't care about your cat's diarrhea." I should have known something was wrong with her then and that she didn't care about my sweet cat or me. She had an agenda from the beginning and lied to achieve it. I saw no other vet doctors besides Alexandra Yiambilis and she just graduated from vet school. She was cold, cruel, and lacked any empathy. She mentioned she puts all her animals down when the time comes. She could have not been more than 25-26 years old. I mourn every day since my sweet cat's passing. My sweet girl was sick with lymphoma. I did not care about the money. Alexandra Yiambilis mentioned in her cruel tone, "No one else is going to help you" and "I'm not going to do anything else for your cat." Alexandra Yiambilis said I was wasting resources on my cat and the first time I met her (she never introduced herself), she wanted to quantify ever bit of treatment given (e.g., "A blood transfusion would be waste of resources for your cat."). She was talking about my beloved cat. She didn't realize IV fluids could affect a red blood cell count and diagnosed a seizure that never happened. I know everyone has to learn in a profession, but unfortunately Alexandra Yiambilis is allowed to run unchecked with her cruelty, condescension, and poor diagnostic skills. I am saddened that my sweet cat was taken from me by this cruel individual Alexandra Yiambilis. Alexandra Yiambilis obviously went into the wrong profession. Pursuing treatment would have not killed my cat because she was a strong girl. Lack of proper treatment and care and compassion killed my cat. Nothing can take back the cruelty given to my cat and me by Alexandra Yiambilis. And nothing will bring her back.

When we arrived, there were a wide array of carriers available and we weren't sure which one to buy. One of the store employees went above and beyond to help us find the right carrier, even going online to double check our airline's size regulations and recommending other items that we might need. She also opened up another register to personally cash us out rather than have us wait in line. I was surprised (in a good way) at how much she was willing to help us. The store is apparently being renovated right now, but the dust and dirt is out of control. I worry about the birds and small animals in the store breathing that in 24/7, as well as the employees. The carrier we selected was absolutely covered in dust and dirt, to the point that the employee who helped us got a duster to brush it off for us and it created a huge cloud. Everything we bought from the food and water bowl attachments to the carrier was covered in a layer of dust and dirt. Also, the floor is unsightly and in disrepair. I hope that it's included in the renovation project, because it really needs updating. Even with the renovations in progress, the level of dust and dirt on the merchandise is unacceptable. There needs to be at least one employee dusting and facing the items on the shelves daily. I've worked plenty of retail jobs, and most of my former managers would have flipped out if our merchandise was that dirty, renovations in progress or not. I would shop here again, but not until the renovations are done, the shelves and displays are wiped down, and the merchandise is properly cleaned.

First couple of appointments were fine. Then, on the first bad occasion, the groomer used a shampoo that made my dog's hair fall out in small clumps. When I questioned her, she said that my dog probably had an allergy. Okay, I can understand that might happen. The next appointment, when I returned, my dog's fur had been gouged on her backside by clippers (this was later verified by a groomer at a professional salon). When I asked the groomer what happened, no apology, no explanation, just "It'll grow back." I was not happy and when I questioned the groomer about why it happened, I got no plausible explanation. I left and decided not to return unless absolutely necessary. I do not recommend PetSmart for dog grooming. There's too much staff playtime going on instead of paying close attention to the dogs. Managers are not monitoring the groomers. Sadly, PetSmart could be a top-notch company with great employees, but the people chosen for this location are poor examples of professionalism.
