Lafrance has been servicing my 03 Honda Accord for almost 3 years. He does good work.

I have been with LaFrance for about 15 years and he and his excellent team has serviced my foreign and domestic made cars with speed efficiency and economy. If you walk on his property, he has so many cars you can barely walk around. Thats because he's an honest mechanic in Chicago. And I sorta don't want to write this review because I know it will bring him more business and I will have a longer wait time. But I have asked him to open another location for about 10 years, maybe someday he will. But as for now, he has a crack team and other car dealerships brings him cars for him to work on. I have taken all of my cars to LaFrance for years. He has provided good service, honesty and integrity for all of the years I have known him. Our cars have ranged from Lexus, Pontiac, VW-Passat and Volvo and he has never let me wrong. There is usually a wait , but I'd rather he have his team work on the cars and get it done right than rush through it. Also, there have been emergency situations where he and his team went out of their way to pick up our car and provide great service. I am grateful to know a honest mechanic in Chi who gets the job done. read more

I visit your business on 12/7/2017,Thursday @10:35am. Not sure how I was feeling after leaving. On 5/12/2017, I paid you a total of $2,699.96, for Transmission Service. Trusting and believing, I was doing the right thing because of what you said to me. You want me to have the best. I have always purchase new vehicle. I take very good care of them. I have experience only, one other time replacing, an Transmission in the 80's. AAMCO TRANSMISSION did the repair. Not once did I have to return back to them once services was completed. For you to say to me that it was low on fluid and a little leak. There is something wrong with that Transmission that you place in my Truck/Vehicle. I have to worry & wonder what may happen, while driving it. Yes it's not driving like it should. No pickup like it should, at times . Once I stop it's a JERK. For you to say to me before leaving your place of business. To keep and eye on it and bring it back. This was my 2nd visit concerning the work you completed. Feeling that I had been used. You just buying time for the warranty to expire. God knows if I was not persistent, for 1year warranty. I just would have been out of luck. Because you only wanted to give me 6 months. The service I received is still under warranty, you have yet to say that you will correct the problem. I took my vehicle in for another inspection. I was inform in writing. I took my suv in and was told I needed an air pressure valve. I let him do the work only to find out later the wrong part was used wires were cut to put this wrong part on. After the supposed fix I went back because I was still having trouble. He never looked up my service record to see when I was there and what the problem was. My receipt said I had a warranty period which he didn't try and honor. He excuse was they were too busy that day to check my car. I don't recommend him. He always seem perplexed when you ask him questions. I have to wonder about all those certificates on the wall and if they're real. read more

This past Saturday I took my car to Lafrance service center in Dolton to get my new tires installed as well as a balancing. I waited about an hour to get waited on which is probably not bad for a Saturday morning. It took about two more hours to get out of there. The guy that worked on my car was not one of the regular technicians, but he seemed to be a hard worker. When the job was done I paid for the service and left. About a mile from the service center I felt a rumbling shaking sound in my back wheel. My car stopped in the middle of Sibley in the left lane. The wheel was jammed and the car could not move. A mechanic that was passing by stopped and looked at the wheel and noticed that the lug nuts just fell off. I called Mr. Lafrance and he sent a tow truck to get my car. When the driver came I showed him the hub cap and the lugs that had fallen off they had not been tightened properly. When we got back to the garage I told Mr. Lafrance that the lugs were not tightened and there was damage done to my car. I saw he reprimand the worker that had worked on the car and then the mechanics began to go over and tighten all of the lugs on the wheels. I went back into the waiting area and spoke to lafrance again and his reply was " my guys are taking a look at it". I guess what I expected was an apology or at least saying that the lugs were not tightened. I think someone could have been seriously hurt because of this mistake. In fact a car that was behind me was rear ended by a hit and run driver because she did not see my car in time. The lady and her son left the scene of the accident in an ambulance. These are the repercussions of the negligence at Lafrance service center. I had to go into the waiting area again to let him know about the severity of the mistake before he would apologize. I won't be taking my car back there because of his attitude. I will not recommend the service to anyone in the future. My rear brakes, wheel cylinder, and rims, and brake drum were damaged. These items were replaced but I don't know what else could be damaged underneath the car. I am going to have the car check out thoroughly next week and decide what to do next. I have been a customer of LaFrance Service Center for about 12 years. I started allowing him to work on my family vehicles when he first assumed ownership of the shop. Up until the most recent service, I trusted him. Long story short, the work he recently did on my car was poorly completed. After picking it up, I had several discussions with him about how it was driving. When I asked him questions, his responses were so unclear which raised concerns for me. This led me to getting a second opinion where it was discovered that the supposedly new part he put on my car was a salvage part plus it was damaged. On top of that, the other service rendered associated with applying this new part was not performed. The other service provider completed the work at half the cost. The thing that really upset me is that LaFrance charged me $300 for a salvage part if purchased brand new, it's only $176. WOW! When I called to settle the situation, he backed up his work. I am taking him to court as well as filing a claim with BBB and IL Attorney General. This is the LAST time I will do business with him. We try to support African American businesses only to get screwed by them. And we wonder why our businesses don't last. read more
