The resort is beautiful and the views of the ocean outstanding. We were staying here for a work function and upgraded our room with a view. The room was pretty basic but spacious. Our big complaint was there seems to be the worlds thinnest walls and ceilings. It sounded like the people upstairs were rolling chairs around on the hardwood/laminate floors. I could hear our neighbor to the side where I'd imagine there sitting area was as well but we could hear their entire conversation. I really wanted to like this stay. We got in on a slow rainy Sunday night. Valet took forever to greet us. We walked in and front desk was great. Kind and helpful. We get to the lobby again after self parking and the luggage is still on the cart waiting for a bell hop but we walk to our room and wait another 15 minutes - still no bell hop with my bag. We call the front desk and ten minutes later (on a slow night) the bags arrived. The room was ok... my ocean view was of the harbor and a construction zone. No one told me this would be the case when I reserved the room with a full ocean view upgrade. The bathroom floor was dirty and the coffee machine mug had coffee on it. We go to the lounge and order two lava cakes that had gone bad and tasted like dog food if I'm being kind. We call it a night and wake up at 8 am to housekeeping YELLING back and forth in the hallways. So disruptive. Oh this is after a heater that was loud and kept turning on and off all night. I couldn't take it. I called front desk and Lorelai was very kind but said her manager wasn't available to help address anything. I'd have to wait until the afternoon to hear from her. I asked them to let me leave. I cancelled my spa appointment because I no longer trusted any service there due to the clear poor management. They refunded my lava cakes and let me leave without a cancellation fee. I am a loyal Marriott customer and have never seen such terrible management. This place is getting run down and ignored it seems. It has potential and was sad. I left at 9 am that morning. I won't be back. read more

I had a great experience at Laguna Cliffs Marriott from the time I checked in until the time I checked out. The hotel room was clean and I had a partial ocean view from my room. The hotel is located close to restaurants within walking distance, Doheny State beach, and a short drive to shops at the Harbor as well as a hiking trail, Hilltop Conservation Park, near the Chart House (which I do not recommend eating at the Chart House). On occasion I had questions and asked the hotel staff, whether it was the valet attendants, bartenders, the Spa or the gift shop personnel, all of them were able to answer my questions. Unlike some hotels that may direct you to the front desk or elsewhere for answers. Overall the property was clean. I enjoyed relaxing on the deck just outside of the restaurant on the main level. However, I was disappointed that the front lawn was under construction. That's the view you see from the deck. I didn't see notification of construction when I booked my reservation. It would've been nice to have had a heads-up before booking. read more

Really surprised with how much we enjoyed our stay. Pictures do not do this place justice the views and the grounds are expansive and beautiful. Sunsets are stunning and we grabbed some food and drinks at OverVue restaurant one night under the moonlight it was magical. Bed was comfy, room was immaculate, shower is ginormous, and the balcony with partial pool and ocean view was a great touch. Only stayed a single night but really enjoyed ourselves. This is a really nice, beautiful property. From check in to check out, the staff was very kind and efficient. There for a conference, the meeting facilities were on the lobby level and easy to access. The meeting space was clean and spacious. The rooms were nicely appointed. Having arrived before the official check in time, I was appreciative that they got me in to a room that was open. While it wouldn't have been the room I would've had, I was just grateful to take whatever they had. It ended up being a double room with no balcony but overlooking the ocean. The screens on the window however obscured the views. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was fine but the setup with the glass in the shower wasn't ideal as water sprayed around it getting the floor wet. Dining here was a little challenging. The food from the conference breakfast buffet, to the food in the bar area (fish tacos), to the food on the room service menu (classic burger and salmon Caesar salad) had no seasoning. There wasn't a speck of pepper to be seen on any of the food aside from the fries. Also, there was clearly an issue with ordering room service from the app as both times my order was wrong. The staff were great and got my order rectified quickly both times and promised a discount for the error and delay. All in all, this place is very nice and there are heated pools and great views. I would recommend eating off property however. read more

As far as the service at check in we received great fast service. Girl was very nice! Room was nice and clean however; the shower was clogged and water had a very slow drain. Nice balcony to enjoy the partial ocean view. Bed was horrible which is why I'm giving this hotel 3 stars. I left feeling achy and to me the bed is everything! Not a nice experience. We stayed April 18th, and when booking the room we were never informed about the construction happening throughout the hotel -- and trust me, you notice it. Our room was on the first floor in the midst of the construction, they should not give those rooms to guests until the work is done. We asked for a room switch with no response. The kids' pool was the only pool open due to the construction, which again was never communicated to us before arrival. The pool is far from relaxing. After our stay, we informed the GM Edgar about our experience, and he guaranteed us a partial refund because of the inconvenience and poor experience. It has now been a month with no progress or follow-up. For a Marriott property, this was very disappointing. Better communication and follow-through with guests is expected. -Ella read more

My partner and I stayed here a few days ago, and we were completely blown away, by everything and everyone. The staff were truly something special. I don't think I've ever been so in awe of so many people at once. From Sandy and Drew to the front desk team, just wow. What a great spot. We decided to have an early dinner at the Overview Lounge at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. We were greeted by the Valet and proceeded into the lounge. Madison was our amazing server and she was kind, professional and efficient. We started with margaritas and guacamole with chips. I ordered a Cesar salad and for our entrees we both had the grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos. The food was very good and we plan to go back and try the 5 p.m. evening menu. We were there at 3:30 p.m. after a wonderful walk at the Dana Point Harbor. The view, ambiance and service were stellar. Highly recommended. read more

Okay Marriott- go off We stayed here for a mini-moon after our snowy winter wedding last weekend. I know Laguna Cliffs doesn't control the weather, but they could have fooled me. The sun was out our entire stay, the views of the ocean were sparkling and we were so relaxed and happy we added one more night because we didn't want to leave. The service was impeccable. The food is better than your average hotel experience and the drinks were delicious. It's perfectly situated for adventure lovers. We walked to the harbor and had such a fun time whale watching and snacking our way through every restaurant. Our needs and wants were met at every turn. We came back after over 10 years and things have definitely changed. The resort went through a remodel and it is much better than before. Also, the service was much improved as was the responsiveness of the staff. Came for a 3 night stay, enjoyed the views, the pool and the overall environment. Awesome location! I was upgraded to full ocean view which is always a plus. Lots of amenities, with lots of activities for kids. The shower drain was a bit clogged so the water didn't drain that well. The latches for the lock of the patio door was broken, one of the lights in the living area didn't work. Otherwise no other issues, staff were all extremely friendly. Definitely recommend to check out this hotel if you're in the area. Would love to come back again! This place is under major, major construction!!!! It is a mess!!! Don't go there for at least a year. They don't mention it when you are booking the place. I was only staying two days so we just dealt with it. If we were staying longer we would have left. They have no bar or restaurant and a temporary lobby set up that is a joke. This property is gorgeous but the lack of AC in the lobby was torture for a sweaty girl like me. Lol. Other than that the room was clean, the lighting in the bathroom was exquisite and the staff was very helpful. Erin helped us check in and made sure to inform us of all the amenities and was so kind in answering our questions. Bianca was our server the first night and she did such and amazing job and helped make my friend feel so special for his birthday. The next night we went to the downstairs bar and Noah helped us and he is an absolute gem. Noah was the only employee that informed us of the automatic gratuity applied to every check (which I did see when reading the receipts, but I truly appreciated the fact that he was the ONLY one to mention it to us thought our entire stay). Thank you for your good energy and wonderful service, Noah. The world needs more people like you. Super side note, if you do eat on the property do not sleep on the bread rolls. They were the softest and most tasty little things, and with the butter.....I wish I asked to take some for the road they were so good that my friend swapped the bun for the rolls for his chicken sandwich and it was a decision he did not regret. Booked a King bed room with resort view for one night staycation. Upon arrival, we were told they didn't have any King bed available and offered a double bed room. Apparently the couple who were checking in next to us also faced the same exact problem. We told the receptionist we would just cancel and she finally found one with ocean view after 30 min. She was very apologetic and gave us vouchers for complimentary beverages and breakfast. Not a great start, but we accepted the upgrade. Well, "Ocean View" meant some ocean and a view of a huge construction site for the hotel renovations. Again, not great, but fine. Then we went looking for the pool, but I guess the construction was for the pool, so no pool found on our side of the property. There was another pool, which was tiny and very underwhelming. Ok, skip the pool. After relaxing in the room for a while, we decided to eat at the restaurant downstairs. Ordered oysters and branzino, which was a mistake. The server said the oysters were Kumamoto but they definitely weren't and tasted... well not great, especially for $36 for half a dozen. Branzino was okay. Also the mocktail (Blue and Black) tasted just like a watered down soda with no flavor ($16). My husband's cocktail (Negroni) was quite good. The server was not very attentive and we had to chase him down to get the check. The room was okay except for the shower that was either freezing cold or scorching hot. Took at least 10 min to get the right temperature. At least our breakfast was free and the valet parking attendant charged our car overnight. We still had a good time but I don't think we will be returning to this hotel again. Huntington Beach Hyatt is much much better for the same price point. read more

Room service was not accommodating, we got back to the room and asked if she could give us an hour. After that we left for 3 hours came back and the room wasn't cleaned. The remote in our room didn't work well, it was a struggle changing channels. But overall a very nice stay with great areas to explore and beautiful views. read more

Came here for a long weekend staycation and have stayed at this property multiple times. The views are unbeatable, and the front desk staff is always welcoming and helpful. This time, however, the poolside service felt a bit lackluster. Servers seemed disengaged and automatically added a 20% gratuity to every check. One area that could really elevate the experience would be establishing a true adults-only pool. While it's marketed that way depending on who you ask, in reality, one pool is geared toward families with a splash pad, but the other isn't consistently enforced as adults-only. It would be great to have a dedicated space where guests can relax without kids running, screaming, or splashing. read more

Liked this place but the ceilings and walls are too thin. It's definitely comfortable but furniture and decor are not special and closer to courtyard or residence inn level. Property is nice but not very walkable to anything given the hill to climb. Good location for short drive to many things and nice view from room but could also be quite noisy. Pools look decent and there are two. Bathroom bath towels are low end but bathroom is nice but no fan and only one light which is bright AF. Good TV and Comfy sofa. Place has potential to be more upscale but is stuck in between. Parking fee and resort fee are a shakedown or about $100 a day. Restaurant on site is way overpriced so don't bother. They have Nespresso but I actually prefer regular coffee. Nice try though. Get some better bath towels. read more

The hotel does have a little older feel to it, but still a nice place to stay. Only issue we had is the battery on our door keycard reader died so we had to wait 20minutes in the hall for maintenance to come fix it so we could enter our room. You have the option to Valet or self park. The self park is in a parking garage that is right in front of the hotel so super short walk. read more

We did a staycation couple of days for one of the BFF's birthday. We reserved double beds and we had a view of the ocean from a distant and also a renovation area. I'm glad they weren't doing any work at the moment as things can be loud. I wish the windows were bigger as opposed to 3 little once to get a better view once the renovation is complete. The Hotel smell so good when you walk in. I wish they use the same fragrance in every hallway. The Room we had was clean and decorated with beautiful furnitures. The bathroom is nice as well. They offered Happy Hour as a complimentary but we didn't take advantage of. The pool was heated but it wasn't warm enough for me. We ordered extra coffee and creamer and they delivered right away. For sure, we will be back again hopefully the renovation is complete in couple of months. read more

Please check if the towels are stained before placing them in the rooms. The trash was not cleared either. The front desk was super helpful and replaced/corrected it right away. After each event, we were rushed out of the rooms and the vue lawn immediately as they closed out. Felt so awkward. The bar is very nice and has great views of the ocean and the sunset. read more

We went golfing at Monarch Beach Golf Links and decided to book a night during post Christmas week. It was a short 10 mins drive from Monarch Beach Golf. Resort location was very convenient, it is across from Dana Point Harbar & Marina and Doheny Beach. You will have to drive up a small hill from the main street and you will see the hotel entrance. There is a nice park right in front of the hotel with public access. Valet parking only for $46/night. It's a beautiful , comfortable, pricey hotel (+ resort fee, valet parking, & tax). We went during the holiday season so it was all decked out with decorations and a beautiful xmas tree. The staff and front desk were very welcoming, check-in process was very easy and we were given 1 alcoholic/ coffee/tea voucher (1 voucher per night of stay). We end up grabbing couple drinks at the lounge and the outdoor patio. It was a nice clear day/night so we decided to sit outside. It's a pretty big outdoor patio with heat lamps . The night view was gorgeous with ocean view and the sound of ocean waves. We came back to the lounge/deck for lunch the next day. You will not be disappointed, every single dish was so delicious. Their menu is hawaiian fusion type of food, I would order the whole menu if I have a bigger party. We ordered the Yakiniku Steak skewers, chimichurri chicken wings, Karaage chicken sliders w/ fries, Cliff Hanger cocktail, and house white wine. They were all flavorful and pretty good sized portion for the price. I would definitely come back to eat if I'm in the area. We had a corner room that has a couch area and a big dresser tv stand/desk. We also had a balcony that has a bit of ocean view and lounge chairs. The kind size bed was very very comfortable. The bathroom is beautiful but it doesn't really have a full shower door so we end up having a pool of water right outside the shower. It was so nice that it has 2 shower function (rainfall shower head + handheld). They have one of the best line of Hotel Toiletries brand LATHER (body wash, hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion). It smells amazing (fresh lemongrass). I was able to get a late check out as a Bonvoy Gold Member so we were able to use the hotel amenities and not be in a rush. (Late check out is based on hotel availability) The gym has alot of work out machines , weights, drinking water machine, treadmills w/ TV, elliptical machines w/ TV. If you need filtered drinking water, they are also in the hotel rooms hallway. We also took a dip in the hot tub and it was perfect for a winter day. We would definitely come back and stay here again. read more

Great location, beautiful property w/amazing views. That being said, it's very expensive and has some flaws. The stand-alone shower has only a half glass "door" similar to showers in Europe, so be sure to ask for a lot of extra towels because the bathroom floor is going to get soaked with water. The A/C in our room blew so hard (there was no difference between auto, low & high fan), we had to hand a towel from a lamp in front of the vent so we could sleep with out getting blown away! We came here for somewhere local, beautiful, but not too pricey for our childless date night. The staff was so kind and truly went above and beyond when it came to their customer service. The food was impeccable and delicious. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and there are so many amazing amenities from free bike rentals, yoga, beautiful pools, as well as a large gym. The room was spacious and renovated very nicely. Room service arrives super quickly and everything is truly 10/10. I don't understand why Laguna Cliffs Marriott has a lower overall rating . The service , food and accommodations are great .The prices are reasonable compared to other high end resorts in this area. The views from the restaurants, rooms and bars are the best. As a local , I've staycayed here several times . My experiences have never been anything but wonderful! Erin , at the front desk ,gets an A+++++ for being friendly , welcoming and accommodating. Jackson , the busser, and Jett ,our server at Lantern's Edge provided amazing service . My family and I are staying here next month ,along with relatives from out of town . We are gathering to celebrate my daughter's bridal shower. We wouldn't stay any place else read more
