My husband and I spent the Fourth of July weekend here with my daughter, her husband, and our grandchildren, and we had such a wonderful time. After reading some of the less favorable reviews about the construction, I was a little concerned before our trip, but I'm happy to say it did not affect our vacation at all. All of the restaurants were open, even if some were in temporary locations, and everything was very well done. The food at the pool was absolutely delicious--honestly some of the best poolside food I've ever had--and the service was fantastic. Our grandchildren had the best time enjoying the pool and splash pads, and we also loved that there was a nice playground just a short walk down the hill. The beach is very close and easy to get to. There is a bit of an incline on the way down and back up, but we found it very manageable. Overall, we had a truly memorable stay and would happily return. read more

We stayed at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott resort in July 2026 during plumbing work on our house. We are locals and know the area well. The resort was under major construction at this time and yet we still had a great experience. Resort offers valet and self-parking options. The self-parking is easy as you trade in your ticket for a reusable check-in/check-out card, which makes it easy. They felt a little understaffed for the weekend, but still kept the resort clean. Food took longer than it should and service took longer than it should but food was very good and service was excellent when it happened. Our room was clean and modern and gorgeous. A typical Marriott bed, so a great sleep experience. Air conditioning had the best self-control of any hotel. We've stayed in in a while, which is fantastic. The shower is ample and high so tall people can do as well as small people and had great hot water and pressure. Front Desk also felt overwhelmed and doing the best they could, but it wasn't great in terms of times we had to wait. Overall, we had a surprising stay in an area we've lived in for decades, and will definitely rebook for staycations in the future! read more

This is a tough one to rate. This hotel was recommended to us by friends and family so I booked it before reading reviews. A few days before going to our trip, I read the reviews about the construction. This definitely was not disclosed upon booking and I was disappointed. But I wanted to give it a chance. We arrived and immediately can see the construction that is being done. I understand that renovations have to happen but I do think it's absolutely absurd to not disclose it during booking and to charge the insane amount that they did for a holiday weekend. Valet guys were nice but again, prices insane. I could barely understand the lady who checked us in as it was very loud in the makeshift lobby but I took my keys and figured "I got this". Definitely did not. We got lost looking for our room as we had to go through this makeshift tunnel through the construction towards our room. We were promised a partial ocean view. We got that, and a full on construction view. We were disappointed but decided to go to the pool...as we are walking to the pool, lost again. This man approaches us. Introduces himself as the Head Manager of the Hotel and gives us directions, apologizes for the construction and even helps us find our way to the restaurant and pool area. Nice. It didn't stop there. This manager, wow! The next day was Fourth of July and he was working in a SUIT! Full on tie and suit. Delivering drinks, moving loungers, bringing towels to people, running with furniture. Running with food. He made sure that everyone was taken care of. Got what they needed, and all the guests were happy. Absolutely amazing! I've never seen that kind of hospitality anywhere! I tried making a reservation at one of the restaurants for dinner and arrived 30 minutes before opening and was told that they were booked until 7pm (it was currently 4:30pm). I asked if walk-ins were welcome and was told after 7pm because she had 'hundreds of reservations'. I was complaining to my daughter that I couldn't get a reservation when the head manager overheard our conversation and helped me make one. Suddenly a table for 3 became available at 6pm. We arrived, it was not busy at all. I don't know who that lady was that said she had "hundreds of reservations". While I am upset at the hotel for not lowering their rates (pool area was crammed, not enough sitting area) I do appreciate the hard work that the Head Manager put in to ensure guests left happy. I hope to one day return when the renovation is done but I do think it should be disclosed. Don't overbook, get more lawn chairs. Also pro tip, add TV's to the cabanas. We went during World Cup season, there was only one tv outside and everyone was crammed around to watch the game under the sun and the glaring screen. 3 starts for the hotel. 5 starts for the head manager! The refrigerator is big for a hotel room. I did find the fitness center within the space of the area called the lobby now; it seemed like an unusual space but I found it. I came here today and was surprised at all the construction going on to improve this hotel. The gym was moved inside the spa and an awkward location plus the machines are all super old. If they're upgrading this Marriott property, they need to also do the same with the gym equipment. I'm surprised they are redoing the hotel during the summer. This normally would probably be a great place to stay at but... they are doing construction which is an eye sore but hey okay. One would think the price to stay here would be less expensive but nope! All the amenities listed, nope because of the construction plus they do not have the additional pool and they do NOT mention the fact that there is construction being done. And price to park here is outrageous! And of course one must park here because there is NO overnight parking anywhere! Ans they don't let you know about a tag you will need to go In and out of parking if you will be staying a few day Also if you are sitting by the pool facing the ocean you have no view but too look at the rose bushes and hedge. We just wrapped up an incredible 5-day stay, and I had to leave another review because the people here truly made our vacation. Even with the hotel transition and the new restaurant transition, every single employee made us feel so welcome, cared for, and appreciated. A huge thank you to Chris, Alex, Brady, Travis, and especially Ciara (Cure-Rah) --she was the absolute queen! She made my kids feel so special every single day, and seeing how excited they were to see her became one of the highlights of our trip. She was kind, quick, accommodating, and always went above and beyond. Chris also deserves special recognition. He handled the new restaurant transition with such professionalism and grace, often seeming to manage everything at once while still making every guest feel important. Terrible experience. Booked this hotel for a family wedding and couldn't be more disappointed. The hotel is under extremely heavy construction with jack hammering all throughout the day and all the facilities temporarily relocated. This was not disclosed clearly when booking or we would never have booked the stay. The rooms and property is extremely tired and out dated. It feels like a Best Western hotel for a work conference. Despite all of this they are still charging $700+ a night! The kids working the valet have no oversight or training in any degree of hospitality and were very unhelpful, unprofessional, and loudly discussing very inappropriate topics whenever we've passed by and they are trying to charge $60/night for valet parking and $52/night for self park. What a rip off! As a long time Bonvoy loyalist this is by far the most disappointing property and experience I've ever stayed at. The resort is beautiful and the views of the ocean outstanding. We were staying here for a work function and upgraded our room with a view. The room was pretty basic but spacious. Our big complaint was there seems to be the worlds thinnest walls and ceilings. It sounded like the people upstairs were rolling chairs around on the hardwood/laminate floors. I could hear our neighbor to the side where I'd imagine there sitting area was as well but we could hear their entire conversation. I had a great experience at Laguna Cliffs Marriott from the time I checked in until the time I checked out. The hotel room was clean and I had a partial ocean view from my room. The hotel is located close to restaurants within walking distance, Doheny State beach, and a short drive to shops at the Harbor as well as a hiking trail, Hilltop Conservation Park, near the Chart House (which I do not recommend eating at the Chart House). On occasion I had questions and asked the hotel staff, whether it was the valet attendants, bartenders, the Spa or the gift shop personnel, all of them were able to answer my questions. Unlike some hotels that may direct you to the front desk or elsewhere for answers. Overall the property was clean. I enjoyed relaxing on the deck just outside of the restaurant on the main level. However, I was disappointed that the front lawn was under construction. That's the view you see from the deck. I didn't see notification of construction when I booked my reservation. It would've been nice to have had a heads-up before booking. read more

Was there a few weeks ago for a planned nice vacation in Dana Point. Was not told when we booked, they are going through a major renovation. Ruined the experience with dust and dirt everywhere make-shift tunnels etc. Our view was a dirt lot with equipment and debris everywhere. Not even offered a discount. On top of this took about 45 minutes to get help by the firepits from staff I asked 3x for help lighting a pit. Also ignored by staff at the front desk not even acknowledged me as I was standing there for 10 minutes making eye contact with her. Would never return. read more

Booked a night for a weekend getaway. The hotel is under major construction which wasn't disclosed when booking the room. It is technically walking distance to the beach but it is down a decent hill and would be a pain to lug your stuff up/down. The layout of the property is a little confusing in the meantime but staff were always friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious but amenities are lacking. Only one pool open and it's quite small and when we went, overrun with kids. The LookOut Bar has more of someone's makeshift backyard vibe and there's an automatic 20% service charge that wasn't disclosed or posted anywhere except on the receipt once payment was ran. They had a starry night experience that we reserved that didn't happen and we didn't receive any notification; it was still advertised at the lobby and we did return multiple times to the designated lawn but there was no one. Charged twice for parking and was assured it would be taken care of prior to departure but it wasn't and I had to stop by the lobby to get it corrected before leaving. Am a Gold Elite member and requested a late check out but instead of 2pm, the latest was 12:30pm. No complimentary room upgrade offered either, which was disappointing. Walls are PAPER THIN and we had neighbors who were loud late into the evening and then started early. Could hear kiddos upstairs being yelled at as well. The AC is loud and every time it kicked on, you could hear water running and the air seemed to blow at you instead of dispersing throughout the room. May return once the renovations are done but wouldn't pay the nightly rate for what we received. read more

Really surprised with how much we enjoyed our stay. Pictures do not do this place justice the views and the grounds are expansive and beautiful. Sunsets are stunning and we grabbed some food and drinks at OverVue restaurant one night under the moonlight it was magical. Bed was comfy, room was immaculate, shower is ginormous, and the balcony with partial pool and ocean view was a great touch. Only stayed a single night but really enjoyed ourselves. Do not come to this hotel you will be disappointed and pay a whole lot of money for a terrible view of Construction. It's absurd to charge the amount of money that they did and promise an ocean view and when I got there, all I did was get a huge view of nothing but dirt and construction. I took days and days to find the perfect room to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday, when I saw the ocean view for this room I absolutely had to book it, even though it was way out of my comfort for price range. I figured it was worth it. When I get there, there is no such view the only view is of a bunch of construction with partial Beach. When I asked for another room, they apologize and said that that's all they had. I think it is absurd and misleading to show pictures of full from you and charge the amount of money they did with such a horrible view. I will never come back to here again read more

Stayed at this property last month as part of a longer trip . Wasn't aware they were undergoing a massive property renovation affecting half the property and taking their main pool out of service. Our room itself was fine - the neighbors across the hall, not so much - a couple with a 4 year old child who they let scream and run down the hallways as soon as they arrived. At first I thought there were multiple children due to the noise. They seriously behaved as if they were the only ones staying at the property , completely disregarding anyone else's quiet enjoyment. It started in the afternoon, and I didn't think much of it at first. I was aware there were screaming children on our floor, then I noticed that it seemed to be getting closer, and realized they were across the hall and shared a wall with our room. It sounded as if their child was jumping on a bed or the sofa in the room and this went on for at least an hour. We then left for dinner and returned around 8pm. Upon our return, we heard the child screaming, sounding like he was amped up on sugar and it continued for a while til they left the room. Again the kid was screaming and running up and down the hallway, so I stepped out of our room and looked down the hallway to see a 30-something couple and the boy and asked them nicely if "they could quiet their son as not everyone is on vacation and some of us need to be up early in the morning" The father copped a belligerent attitude saying "it's 9 o'clock, not 1 in the morning, f you" I contacted hotel mgmt and shared all that had transpired with the rude, classless occupant across the hall from us. I also let them know we were staying 3 nights (it was our first night) with another reservation to stay later in the week upon our return trip to the area (we were headed up north to Napa and Fort Bragg) Mgmt spoke with the rude neighbors and explained quiet hours are 8pm-8am and to manage their child due to complaints. The hotel ended up refunding our daily resort fee (which was kind of a joke since the property was under a massive renovation and the only pool available was the small family pool filled with screaming kids) as well as the ridiculous $52 a day self-parking fee - so that was good. I ended up canceling our other reservation later in the week because it was just too chaotic with all the construction work and families. It's a great property for families because they were all over that place . Don't think we'll ever stay there again though. read more

I got married on 7/10/26 at Lantern Bay park. I was worried about how I was going to walk down the hill without my feet killing me and my makeup and hair staying in tack. We had asked the front desk if they had a golf cart and they said no. My wedding coordinator asked a manager if they had a golf cart we could use to take me down to the park and he said we have an engineering cart. When I came out to the lobby area, this cute cart that said Laguna Cliffs Marriott on the side of it was waiting for me. The managers I wish I knew all their names were there to help me get in and take me and my kids down to the park. It was soooooo nice of them and I didn't get to tip them. We stayed at the hotel the night of our wedding and the day before. We loved how the room went right out to the pool so my kids could just walk out from sliding door. We ordered room service twice and both times it came fast and food was decent. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the parking garage was kind of far and it was pricey to self park. We would stay here again but we only live 30 minutes away! Thank you to the managers for making my wedding day stress free! I truly appreciate it! read more

This is a really nice, beautiful property. From check in to check out, the staff was very kind and efficient. There for a conference, the meeting facilities were on the lobby level and easy to access. The meeting space was clean and spacious. The rooms were nicely appointed. Having arrived before the official check in time, I was appreciative that they got me in to a room that was open. While it wouldn't have been the room I would've had, I was just grateful to take whatever they had. It ended up being a double room with no balcony but overlooking the ocean. The screens on the window however obscured the views. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was fine but the setup with the glass in the shower wasn't ideal as water sprayed around it getting the floor wet. Dining here was a little challenging. The food from the conference breakfast buffet, to the food in the bar area (fish tacos), to the food on the room service menu (classic burger and salmon Caesar salad) had no seasoning. There wasn't a speck of pepper to be seen on any of the food aside from the fries. Also, there was clearly an issue with ordering room service from the app as both times my order was wrong. The staff were great and got my order rectified quickly both times and promised a discount for the error and delay. All in all, this place is very nice and there are heated pools and great views. I would recommend eating off property however. read more

This is a beautiful hotel ! Great location and grounds and very nice. Pool is a bit small and jacuzzi was not ok. The jets were not so good. As far as the service at check in we received great fast service. Girl was very nice! Room was nice and clean however; the shower was clogged and water had a very slow drain. Nice balcony to enjoy the partial ocean view. Bed was horrible which is why I'm giving this hotel 3 stars. I left feeling achy and to me the bed is everything! My partner and I stayed here a few days ago, and we were completely blown away, by everything and everyone. The staff were truly something special. I don't think I've ever been so in awe of so many people at once. From Sandy and Drew to the front desk team, just wow. I also had the pleasure of chatting briefly with Mayu, who shared a bit about her journey working at the hotel. It was so refreshing to meet someone who genuinely loves what they do. She was incredibly sweet. I'm wishing her all the best! The rooms were spotless and beautifully designed, and the views? Absolutely breathtaking. I live directly across the street from the hotel and their renovation of the hotel water system has been a nightmare for at least two months and expected to last till the end of July. What a great spot. We decided to have an early dinner at the Overview Lounge at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott. We were greeted by the Valet and proceeded into the lounge. Madison was our amazing server and she was kind, professional and efficient. We started with margaritas and guacamole with chips. I ordered a Cesar salad and for our entrees we both had the grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos. The food was very good and we plan to go back and try the 5 p.m. evening menu. We were there at 3:30 p.m. after a wonderful walk at the Dana Point Harbor. The view, ambiance and service were stellar. Highly recommended. read more

1 day in to my 2 day stay and considering the 4 hour drive home already. do NOT stay here. there is undisclosed construction noises beginning at 9am even on saturday. 24/7 beeping in hallways. we are in a dilapidated building literally walking through ruins to get to the room. the smell of mold is everywhere. even when construction stopped there's still 24/7 loud machinery noise. it's so noisy we asked to move so they sent us to a different building without a balcony or ocean view (which we paid for) and no sunlight so we switched back to the original room. the staff made sure to tell us we couldn't move again no matter what happens. understaffed = rude nasty people at the front desk, no customer support or compensation for this miserable visit. read more

I stayed here years ago and it was a wonderful stay. I returned and it is terrible. The construction is so loud and the staff is so rude. I was put in a room that was a level below what I paid for. What was supposed to be a resort view was a view of the torn up grounds and noisy construction equipment. Stay anywhere else if you are going to Dana Point. read more

Patio dinning was makeshift tables on the lawn or parking lot. We waited 2 hrs for our room to be available. We asked for a room on an upper floor within walking distance of amenities but were assigned a first floor room that required a considerable hike. {We're both elderly) There was no marketplace on sight for forgotten toiletries and the only dining option on sight open after 6 pm was a $$$$ formal restaurant. ( $23 hamburger!). We called the front desk for assistance a couple of times but no one answered and there was no consierge on duty. Overall, a very disappointing experience for the price. read more

I really wanted to like this stay. We got in on a slow rainy Sunday night. Valet took forever to greet us. We walked in and front desk was great. Kind and helpful. We get to the lobby again after self parking and the luggage is still on the cart waiting for a bell hop but we walk to our room and wait another 15 minutes - still no bell hop with my bag. We call the front desk and ten minutes later (on a slow night) the bags arrived. The room was ok... my ocean view was of the harbor and a construction zone. No one told me this would be the case when I reserved the room with a full ocean view upgrade. The bathroom floor was dirty and the coffee machine mug had coffee on it. We go to the lounge and order two lava cakes that had gone bad and tasted like dog food if I'm being kind. We call it a night and wake up at 8 am to housekeeping YELLING back and forth in the hallways. So disruptive. Oh this is after a heater that was loud and kept turning on and off all night. I couldn't take it. I called front desk and Lorelai was very kind but said her manager wasn't available to help address anything. I'd have to wait until the afternoon to hear from her. I asked them to let me leave. I cancelled my spa appointment because I no longer trusted any service there due to the clear poor management. They refunded my lava cakes and let me leave without a cancellation fee. I am a loyal Marriott customer and have never seen such terrible management. This place is getting run down and ignored it seems. It has potential and was sad. I left at 9 am that morning. I won't be back. read more

We came back after over 10 years and things have definitely changed. The resort went through a remodel and it is much better than before. Also, the service was much improved as was the responsiveness of the staff. Came for a 3 night stay, enjoyed the views, the pool and the overall environment. Okay Marriott- go off We stayed here for a mini-moon after our snowy winter wedding last weekend. I know Laguna Cliffs doesn't control the weather, but they could have fooled me. The sun was out our entire stay, the views of the ocean were sparkling and we were so relaxed and happy we added one more night because we didn't want to leave. The service was impeccable. The food is better than your average hotel experience and the drinks were delicious. It's perfectly situated for adventure lovers. We walked to the harbor and had such a fun time whale watching and snacking our way through every restaurant. Our needs and wants were met at every turn. Thank you specifically to Dylan, Michael, Tory and Jacky for making this one of the best times of our life. read more
