This is the second time we have stayed at the seahorse and both times were amazing. The rooms were clean and bright. Great location overlooking the pier, which was exactly what we were looking for. Staff were friendly, professional, and helpful. We got a great recommendation for pizza at Sonny's, which was amazing. We had a nice overnight stay at The Sea Horse Resort. What a great find for this ocean front room with a large patio. Check in was easy. Staff were very nice. There are three different buildings. The one where we stayed was Villa Del Mar--ocean front, one bedroom, King suite. It was a very spacious room with a kitchenette, large shower, and a huge patio overlooking Avenida Victoria and across the street from the pier. On the ground floor of the Villa building is Frenchie's cafe to grab your morning coffee and breakfast, if you like. Each room gets one free parking space, a nice amenity considering limited parking in the area. We parked our car and took the trolley to get around. The free trolley stops across the street from the hotel. So convenient! In the morning we walked to The Fisherman for breakfast and then took a walk on the pier. The room was clean and well maintained. End tables in the bedroom had lamps with plug ins and magnetic charging. No TV in the bedroom area. And no phones either, which is fine. The room was much nicer than what the pictures look like on the hotels website, in my opinion. I was pleasantly pleased with everything. A couple things to know: 1. The Amtrak train starts passing through around 5:00-5:30am time frame. It stops in front of the pier for passenger loading/unloading. I didn't think it was noisy at all. 2. Also, there are a few steep steps to get to hotel lobby check in and to the rooms. No elevators. I would definitely stay here again. And I would choose the Villa building again over the other rooms. This is a dilapidated little motel whose only good feature is the view if the beach . I was charged over 500 dollars for a large King room with a little kitchen .. but the room also came with the smell of mold , soiled white sheets , uggh . And if that wasn't gross enough , I then opened the fridge and freezer looking for ice cubes only to find rust stains all over the freezer's inside bars. I could not wait to check out. Early the next morning I went to Starbucks and brought back food to the room , attempted to eat it on the table on the terrace , only to find it was filthy , so I wiped it down with a towel and it was black . The manager, who is very rude , told me that dirt was because they are by the beach. Also the back of the air conditioning unit on the terrace is rusted and peeling .. I lived in Santa Monica by the beach for years and never experienced dirt like that on my patio . I was forced to find another hotel , but it cost me so much more because I was not able to book that second hotel in advance. Terrible way to start a vacation. Stay away read more

Since our last visit this property has been sold and it shows! I can't believe that we have been coming here 30+ yrs off and on and this time I was very upset about it. Maybe the new owners are going to try and fix the place up, because it needs it!!! Rented the 2 bedroom with a fabulous view but they charged a "resort fee" there is nothing here that requires a resort fee! The over sized umbrella's in the rooms are hugh and can not be carried to the beach easily and I asked for 2 more wine glasses and they said they were booked and had no extra!! And then said I could go down the street and buy some!!! What is that about??? The internet is iffy!! FILTHY!!!! It was a huge hassle to get checked in. There were 2 people we spoke with at different times the first one was snobby. We finally got our room and it was hot and stuffy and the ac unit only lets you keep it on save energy mode. The shower is old and tiny junk for the cost. Nothing in this suite is nice. It's all cheap finishings and gross shampoo and conditioner and body wash that they leave on the shower floor and it's bottles that unscrew- multi use bottles- anyone could open and put anything in. So unsanitary. In the bathroom under the sink, the toilet plunger is basically on the blow dryer. The sink is missing the stopper and they just threw the broken stopper under the sink, too instead of fixing or replacing it. There was a huge dead bug on the rug in the living room and crumbs all over around the couch where my child had to sleep on a pullout bed and a blood stained pillow. This was after they "just cleaned" Beds aren't comfy and have cheap bedding and the floors are absolutely disgusting and after showering clean and walking barefoot for 5 mins we noticed all 3 of our feet are black on the bottom. We all washed our feet and put sandals on. Of course there's nobody in the office to call and they only have an emergency number. We hadn't paid fully and wanted to make our reservation one night rather than 2 and they wouldn't change it and told us they would charge for 2 even if we didn't stay because they wanted 7 day notice even though the reservation wasn't paid in full. We are in suite 1. I hate that we have to even stay here one night. It's not clean for my child especially. The only thing good about this place is location... Still not worth it. I will be contacting the office in the morning and pressing for the second night released and a portion of money back. Also, little to no internet or phone reception even with their WiFi our phones were stuck on sos mode. read more

Our stay at the Seahorse Resort from 8/4- 8/6 was unforgettable! The amazing ocean views could be seen from nearly every window -- especially from the living room, which had a cozy Murphy bed. The sounds of the waves can be heard from the bedroom and living room that let us fall asleep to the relaxing sound. Also, the sounds of the train was a nice touch really. While the bedroom itself didn't have ocean views, the rest of the unit more than made up for it with spectacular scenery from every other room. The location is perfect, just steps away from great restaurants, shops, and cafes. We loved using the free trolley to get around town without needing to drive, and the free parking was an added bonus. Inside, the suite was clean, spacious, and thoughtfully stocked. The living room and kitchen area were large, and the full-size refrigerator/freezer, microwave, pots, pans, and dishes made it easy to prepare meals and feel right at home. The resort also provided free beach towels, an umbrella, chairs, and toys, which made our beach days so much easier and more enjoyable. Watching the sunset from the living room, people-watching from the balcony, and simply enjoying the peaceful ocean sounds at night made this trip truly relaxing. There were a couple of minor disturbances outside the resort's control -- like footsteps from the upstairs unit and music from passing cars -- but these didn't take away from our overall experience. If you're looking for a relaxing, scenic, and centrally located beach getaway, we highly recommend Seahorse Resort in San Clemente. We'll definitely be back! read more

I had the bottom King studio room on the street level with the guest patio The location is perfect, room is good size, staff are friendly and great walking distance to restaurants and shops. The parking is easy to manage which is amazing considering the downtown is always packed! Room had microwave, fridge and a seating area. I grew up in San Clemente so I knew it was right by the train and this did not bother me but I cannot wait to be back here to stay! Great little hotel with the best view. One thing I do wish is that there were blinds or darker switchshades, the outside nights at night REALLY light up the room but not that big of issue to give them a less star. read more

LOCATION: 10/10 Beautiful! Right by the beach of San Clemente. Lots of dogs and a few restaurants. BEDROOM : 9/10 The room we had was nice and clean! It has a balcony and ocean view. It was beautiful. Only downside is no AC, but it was raining when we went so it was cold PARKING: 6/10 Parking is very limited if you want it to be close to your room. We were scared to drive anywhere cause we were scared to lose our spot. they have an extra parking lot, but it's far. Also, there is no elevator or ramps so you have to carry your luggage up the staids DOGS: 7/10 They allow dogs which is cool! But the website never told us there would be a fee until we arrived. Overall: I enjoyed my stay here. Only taking down a star due to parking and accessibility to and from the rooms. Will definitely be back. read more

The Manager is very rude date September 12 at 11:49 am. I called because of the deposit hold it was given back to me when I checked out Next day they removed the credit so I called and she did not want to hear it. She was just trying to hang up on me.. When you checked out I revived the credit back and today a day later they removed the credit- She said call your bank! instead of trying to fix it.. Roaches outside the sitting area and in the room. The other employees were very kind but the Manager needs Customer Service skills. I was not gonna mention the roach problem at all because the front desk employee was very understanding and helpful -9/11/24' checked out around 10:30 am- They received a one star because of the manager. read more

We ADORED this place! Fantastic!! True, the trains aren't running there (for the time being), so we have nothing negative to report. It was like paradise to us in every way...and we've stayed in Bali and Guam and Hawaii many times. They've recently redone the rooms, they said, and everything was so clean and fresh. King bed was comfy! No A/C, but two ceiling fans worked great! The assigned parking spot behind the room was amazing. The pizza place below had divine GF pizza, just like another review had advised. We had a top floor King Studio, and it was really spacious. Another review mentioned paper cups but our room had nice glass mugs/a complete set for 4. Another friend advised that San Clemente has good thrifting, so we made an afternoon of that and got great finds...though the walk to town is ALL uphill; you gotta love hiking to hoof it, but the town is charming "old school". We liked that at check in everything was well-explained, including their "zero tolerance" quiet hours = a relief to us, past the "party" years. LOVED this place so much and can't wait to return. After having a previous great experience here, this time it was a nightmare! First, we reserved the same room as last year. We hoped that staying here every anniversary was going to be our thing. We even stopped by a month ago and were promised we were still going to be in the same room. When we checked in, the snooty front desk girl gave us a different room: a horrible room. She said we used a 3rd party and therefore they didn't have to honor our room request, just had to give us "A room." She didn't care that an employee promised us the room a month ago. The Room: 1st floor tiny (Like Tokyo tiny) room, shower the size of a coffin, bathroom I could touch all four walls sitting on the toilet, limited view on busy street level. Twice, strangers walked into our room thinking it was the office! Bathroom sink smells like sewage when you run water. WiFi did not work the entire stay. No sign-in page. The same snooty girl took my phone and said it was working. I had to show here that no apps would load without the splashdown sign-in page and password. The afternoon girl was great. Morning girl should not work in customer service. The loss of 3 days of work due to WiFi issue was not good. We will not be back or recommend Seahorse or any of its associated properties. NOTE: Ashley W's response is a LIE. We made 1 reservation. We have the email proof. What the 3rd party company did is on them. We still checked with the hotel in person a week prior. read more

So my husband and I absolutely love staying here and have stayed many times and will continue to come back. They are a bit pricey though.... the location is what we love. We've stayed in different rooms and trust me we really love our stay. This time we stayed in room #6 by far our favorite. So spacious but come on guys, y'all need to upgrade that bathroom in there. NO WATER PRESSURE and the plaster is chipping off the bathtub. Add some solid shelves in there to be able to have a little storage for our tooth brushes and such. Maybe add an actual medicine cabinet for storage. The room is spacious and should have some drawers for storage as well. **Please add a full length mirror** There is so much room. Overall we love this place so much. Ashley is so nice. We look forward to coming back soon and staying in this room. But please add do something about the horrible water pressure. I've stayed in this place a few times before and it's always a great experience. I was actually shocked when I went to go check out my prior review and I realized I hadn't written one. Before arriving I was a little confused on parking and the girl I talked to on the phone was super helpful and then got me checked into my room within minutes once I arrived. I had an upper floor studio king which I absolutely loved the view and it was a super comfortable room except I did hear the people next-door coming in and out and I'm sure they could hear me coming and going because of the door creaking and the doors being so close to each other. The next morning I decided I wanted to stay another night and I booked what I thought was the same room but I guess I booked a bottom floor king studio and the guy working the desk told me I would have to check out at checkout time and then recheck in 4 hours later which was super frustrating. I told him I didn't want a bottom unit floor if I could pay the upgrade to a different room and he let me and it wasn't even much more and he was so amazing and accommodating he had the cleaners clean my room quickly and I was able to check in only about an hour later after original check out. The views are amazing and the pizza place next-door was super good. I ordered a gluten-free pizza and it was probably my most favorite gluten-free pizza I've had yet and everything was great. The only complaint I have is I got a bigger room the second night the TV was extremely far from the bed. I would definitely pick the first room, the higher floor studio king if I ever came back which I'm sure I will! All in all I still give it a 10 out of 10 read more

My daughter and I stayed in the Catalina room this last weekend. Yes, the views are beautiful and the beach is there to view from the room. Don't be deceived by the pictures. The train is closer to the beach than the hotel. FYI...You'll need to walk down the hill to the pier entrance to cross the tracks to access the beach. There's a switch you can turn on to have the outside air to come into the room, but don't plan to sleep with it on (at least in the Catalina room) because there's a whistle noise that will keep you awake. I don't mean just the sound of the air blowing. There's no window to open to let air in from outside either. We were there to relax. We did except for the bed. The bed is really hard and we both got up several times during the night to move around because of the mattress. With the price of the rooms, it's time to upgrade the beds!!! Maybe some memory foam? Also, I feel that with the price of the rooms, they could have supplied real coffee mugs. I mean, the cheap disposable coffee cups were a big disappointment. I felt like I was in a cheap hotel. FYI...if you want to relax and enjoy your coffee in the morning on the front patio, make sure to bring your own coffee mug. So, until they make changes, bring with you: -memory foam mattress topper -coffee mugs -usb plugs (they don't have lamps with usb connection) Good luck. read more

I had a fabulous time. I stayed in the King Non-Smoking Oceanview. The room itself is cozy, the microwave and refrigerator are in a closet. But aside from being a little smaller, it's beautifully decorated and very clean. If you want to catch the sunrise, I suggest walking to the pier as the sunrise is blocked by the building across the street. The tall gentleman with glasses checked me in and out. He was incredibly helpful and kind. I asked questions about the area and he was very knowledgeable and patient. I will 10000% stay again. read more

Came here last year and thought it was amazing staff was kind and friendly. Decided to make this an annual trip for my husband and I. Received a call the day before to see if we wanted an earlier check in. I said yes, we will be there at noon. This year, they have new staff. Very rude and aggressive staff. All eating pizza in the office,not wanting to be interrupted. The rooms were not cleaned and ready as promised. The cleaning crew was eating pizza in our room as we waited for it to be cleaned. Manager said they are waiting for the floors to dry in 15 mins, 55 minutes later.... still no room. Staff is fed. Everyone deserves a break, but stop telling us the room will be ready...We are waiting in the car still at 2:25. I don't want to be spoken to like a child, so I won't go back in the office. Won't come here next year. Haven't even checked in and want to go home already. Went up to the office since I realized the cleaning staff had finished the room 15 mins ago. I went into the office, she threw the key on the desk. The other employee started to say the cleaning crew just called us and let us know the room was ready. She stomped past me to go in the break room. Come to this hotel if this is how you want to start your vacation. We also had medicine that needed refrigeration. So the timing of the room was important. This was told to the staff. She said 15 mins.... turned to over and hour plus. If we would have listened and said the medication can wait 15 more mins. We would have had to go home....as the medication would have not been good in over 1 hour wait. Very disappointed. Won't be back. read more

The hotel was a perfect fit for me but the receptionist and the manager made me feel scared and as if I was being evicted from my room, as my husband said. There was no late check out offered or options to pay for a later check out. As a hotels.com Silver Member, I thought I had until 12pm to check out (photo hereunder of the hotels.com confirmation for a 12pm check out). At 11:20 am I received a call from the receptionist. She told me very coldly that on their end, I had to leave at 11am. The receptionist didnt care and replied coldly I had to pack up in 10 mns. They needed the room ready. Then the manager began knocking very aggressively on my door while I was showering. I was very scared and did not open. A lady manager came in my room and told me then: "You have to leave now". I called my husband and she wouldnt talk to him but I wanted to make sure they understood the situation as I have an accent (from France originally). My husband managed to have them calm down and let me pack respectfully my luggage. As well they refused luggage assistance and my husband made sure someone helped me with my luggage as I have a broken ankle in a brace. I came on a business trip to San Clemente. I will never come back to this rude, outrageous hotel that show disdain for guests with foreign accents. I left the room impeccable. The maids won't have much work. I always do that in hotels. It was a very disturbing and painful experience. As of today, we realized they canceled out 19th weeding anniversary 6 day reservation for spring break. This is a review of the penthouse so know we have paid close to $600 per night for a sleepy 1970s era inn resort. Location and view ---perffffff. Even the low rider cars spouting basslines plus the trains every 40-60 minutes don't deter us. There is NO AC and in this extended heatwave, it was about 10pm before it felt comfortable in the room. The beach waves lull us to sleep and the pier is right across the street. La Galette Creperie has a partnership with free vouchers for coffee for each stay. Everything is walkable...just have to bring a white noise machine or ear plugs for the beach crowd, even in October with this extended heat wave. It's a toss up if we will return. The private parking for hotel guests is scarce. Check-in was dicey and we had to loop around to try and find a spot. I get it- sleepy beach town vibes means adapting to its rules! Downtown SC is about .5 miles away for the yummy food and libations! read more

Great service, room, view and location! My husband and I had an amazing time staying here at the resort. Our room had a great view, clean with a comfy bed and full kitchen access. Which we didn't use, I didn't go on a mini no kids vaca to cook, everything you need are in walking distance. Including a not so fancy, but expensive coffee shop. But, I was a sucker for it anyways. I run on caffeine on the daily. It was worth paying 5 bucks for a medium size Macchiato! ;-) Yummy! There are a lot of great restaurants in the area and the beach is awesome! Literally across the street from where all of the restaurants are at. The resort will provide great condition beach chairs, umbrellas and towels. Which you can keep in your room during your stay. We didn't know that, we ended up returning the ones that we bought at Costco! There's a rental store nearby to rent boogie boards and surfing gear. Also, make sure you check out their lounging area outdoors! Downfall, the electricity plugs aren't working so well in the kitchen and bedroom. But, you are paying for the decent room / suite, the million dollar view and ambience! I'd recommend them and we will be back with the kids next time! Great for family stay!!! read more

This place was perfectly located right across from the beach and pier. You can watch surfers and the sunset from the pier. The street along the beach has a number of shops and restaurants. The crepe restaurant right below is run by a French owner, and delicious. An easy walk to downtown, or you can take a bus to downtown for free. The bus stop is right across the street. Downtown, there are boutique clothing stores, an ice cream shop, and several great restaurants. Our room was decorated in a beach and seahorse theme. Management was very friendly and attentive. I loved it here! My only complaint & why it got 4 stars was the room cleanliness. I live in the I.E, I was soooo excited to come down to beautiful beach weather & cure my allergies for the weekend.... But the dust in the room was really bad! So bad I Cleaned the fan after I turned it on & a huge dust bunny fell on our bed. Maid service needs to step it up. Room was cute & decorated really nice. It's an older building so people looking for marble & sunken tubs should go elsewhere. It's doggy friendly & our downstairs patio had such an amazing view we ate our breakfast & lunch out there. People walking by even asked about our room & the price because of the patio. I would definitely stay here again, & I had a nice relaxing Anniversary weekend there. read more

We are from Upland Ca, so not too far but when you need a little get away this is the place... I like to stay in the bigger apartments because of the view. It is so peaceful and calm. Love people watching from the living space and watching the people swim.... at night you can hear the waves crash so loud it is the most comforting noise. The apartment is so comfortable and livable. Booked a last minute stay here for our 20th anniversary for a Friday and Saturday mid January. Rate was great, prob because off season and last minute booking. Was a 2 bedroom suite (basically an apartment at 1200 sq ft) with small kitchenette/bar area and open living room space with large windows and 2 balconies, one balcony on one side of the living room area that looks out north west to the pier and has a view of their on site garden sitting area. Other balcony is connected to the other side of the living room as well with straight out ocean views and has access from the master bedroom also. I let them know it was our anniversary when booking and we were greeted by Ashley with a complimentary bottle of wine upon check in. Room was clean, bathrooms and decor were updated, everything was simple and spacious. Views were incredible!! The building we were in only has 5 or 6 units so pretty mellow. It is an older building so you can expect to hear your neighbors footsteps a bit on the floor above you but the Inn has a strict noise policy after 10pm so no problems sleeping at night. It wasn't too cold at night so we actually slept with the windows open and the crashing waves kind of drown out any other other noise as well. Brought an electric blanket as well just in case we needed it to stay warm with the windows open since we love to hear the ocean sounds. Room had heat but no AC which is pretty common for these older buildings but had ceilings fans in the bedrooms and living rooms if needed to stay cool. Train passes by right out front of the pier so people should be aware that there will be some extra noise along with that but that doesn't bother us at all, we have done many camping trips up and down the coast and a lot of spots on the coast run right along the railroad and we actually kind of like the train but may be a turn off for those not used to it. Restaurants and a very small market all on the same street within a couple hundred feet walking with plenty of outside eating available or walk across the street and eat on the beach or pier. We opted to get food to go and eat back in our room on the balcony and enjoy the privacy and view. Great surf spots as well on the north and south sides of the pier and just a short walk south down the beach path to T-Street for surfing as well. Nice relaxing last minute stay. Would have liked to stay one more night but needed to be back to work on Monday. No cancellation policy so be sure before you book and read the fine print so you know what to expect. Glad we stayed and would definitely love to come back again. read more
