I uploaded the same pics to ChatGPT and got a better and complete design w/an AI pic in 5 minutes for FREE vs the one I paid several hundreds for. They only used the few hydrangea and hosta suggestions that I gave them as a border around the whole yard. They suggested I plant 5 gallon hydrangeas around the base of an existing Maple. I saw a $299 promotion for ShrubHub.com and so I decided to sign up for it when they offered me an additional 10% discount. They were supposed to provide a dream design of my front and back yard based on input that I provided them in a 30 minute call. They wanted me to take pictures of the front and back yard and initially they said I didn't provide enough, but eventually all of that was sorted out. I also signed up for a 30 day revision package which was $70. It took several weeks for my project manager Alessandra to come up with a design. Initially she wanted to charge more money saying my lot was too big and that it would take too much time to design, but then she backed down. The design that she provided didn't look like much effort was put into creating something new, exciting and modern. The reality was that the initial design was an exact copy of my house with a few plants and 2 patio covers. When I wanted to make a revision, it took them a full week to get back to me with the update, which usually was very minor. So really you only have time to do 4 revisions max in that 30 days. And on the last revision she didn't even provide a link to the new update or contractors that could do the design which is something that ShurbHub said they would provide. I sent follow up emails to Alessandra and ShrubHub but didn't hear back from either of them. So, I thought when I saw this ad that we would be able to use it when we were ready to actually start the project. Well, our project got delayed, due to financial reasons. I later reached out to schedule my call and couldn't schedule any longer. Guess what, it expires after one year. My $400 GONE! I never saw that fine print anywhere. They kept pummeling my social media so I decided I would give them another go. I should have learned the first time around. It took forever (a month) to be able to schedule a design consultation, and then a month to get it back. I uploaded my dimensions, photos, videos, and 7 really good inspiration photos. Well after a month later, I just received the design. And it looked nothing like my inspiration photos, and the designer did not listen well, put things in the wrong places. The original design took too long, didn't match the specs that we discussed in the design brief (for example, I asked for ground cover and the design had all hardscape). I had to spend hours meticulously typing out notes to get so many aspects of the design corrected, despite having submitted a detailed drawing of the existing conditions. The company forced me to buy a revisions package which they told me had expired by the time they had finally gotten the design to match my original requirements from my intake call. And the final design is nothing like what I wanted. Over two months to complete. An expensive waste of time, tbh. Was it cheap? Yes. Was it good? Not even a little. Did it feel scammy? Yes. Like others we were skeptical about working with Shrubhub, however for $300 or so I was willing to take the risk since we were dealing with a 3,000 square foot yard and not a national monument in Paris. Our Program Manager (PM) was Steve Maximillian and he set up an initial consultation. From the outset he was professional, prompt and focused. His questions were right on as he led us through the design phase requirements. He informed us that the design would take at least 3 weeks. During the three weeks you won't see any back and forth emails or anything like that until the initial design is ready for you to review. For anyone reading this, the key to your design is to give the designers enough to work with - they can't work in a vacuum, so cut them some slack because they're not mind readers. Provide correct measurements, send them a copy of the property survey, provide plenty of photo's on important features and take photos from every angle of your property. When you sit down via phone with your consultant/PM go over all "wants and needs" make sure you provide a budget amount that you're shooting for. There's a big difference in what the designers can place into your design if you have a $500 budget or a $500,000 budget. Steve provided our initial design in less than 3 weeks. It was very nice, and we requested changes to the design. Steve came back within a couple of days with an updated design and I must say that we were impressed. Everything is laid out, the plants they recommend are spelled out in terms of where they go and quantity needed. If you have a large project stay away. I went through three project managers (the project managers give direction to the designers; this is probably the root of the problem). The first project manager quit before I received my first drawing. My first drawing only contained half what was requested. The second project manager wanted to cut the conversation short before we could finish our plan discussion. Designers under his "leadership" took out a view fence and substituted it was a tall block wall, blocking the view, when I requested a small planter be situated in front of the view fence. The designers took out a connector the drive. I never requested this. I asked the project manager to call me regard this and other errors. No return call; no return messages. He then left and I was assigned Bethany. Bethany was much more professional and communicated that if want to speak to her I needed to set up an appointment. Finally, some communication how to get them to listen to me. I tried to work with her, but it became clear the designers were not following her directions either. Lesson, if you have a small simple project, may be a remote service like Shrub Hub might for you. But if you have a larger or a complicated project, do not use Shrub Hub. Love the design/layout OVERALL, I am pleased with the 1st design/layout Nancy provided. She was able to capture everything on our list of requirements and really thought outside the box in terms of having it flow, and the design was completed quicker than expected. I did notice some privacy trees were not included at the fence line and Nancy immediately noted she'd make the edits, along with a couple more suggestions. So happy I got to work with Nancy and she understood our vision. I'm currently waiting to see what the final touches look like (will update review once done), but so far, I'm pleasantly surprised at how seamless the design process has been, despite the initial shock that the promotion I selected did not include the entire backyard. I was bamboozled. The first plans I obtained didn't even look like my own yard, and I had to have them fix some pretty obvious things. Most of the plants they included were not even viable in my zone 7a climate. I cross referenced the plant list they sent and over 50% were not going to survive in Utah. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I sent DETAILED feedback, point by point, on what I needed to see.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The second round had random planter boxes in places (I didn't even ask for planter boxes), more plants that won't survive in Utah, and a ton of other odd changes I never asked for. Shrubhub would only issue me a refund (and only a partial refund) if I removed my negative review. It is removed. Since the refund is only partial, I can give you a partially negative review. The site and entire checkout process has the words 30 DAY MONEY BACK GUARANTEE all over it. It's not true. If you're not happy with the work (which I can't tell you about because I want a refund) you will not get all of your money back. I'm not even sure if it's legal to require someone to remove a negative review in order to get a refund but I'll just leave you to decide what type of company would do that. read more

Well I am going to be really honest and transparent here. I had doubts about their ability to do what we needed. My wife and I are spending $150,000 on a backyard redo. This is a dream for us, and we have numerous contractors awaiting specific instructions to begin. Our initial call was a little difficult to understand the representative, but once we got past that, things went well. He told us we had loaded more than enough drawings and examples to really get an awesome drawing! We were very excited! Finally our design arrived. He was attentive, responsive, took all our notes and he and his team delivered such a beautiful rendering that it brought tears to my eyes. Sean is very experience, thought and knows what he's doing and it defiantly shows in what we received. We initially signed up for the entry level package but choose to upgrade during our first call. Took 2 weeks from sending revisions for her to send me a plan with zero changes to it. I asked what was going on and received no response. Sent another email to support and received the same response, but this time, the project manager did respond, asking me what she could help me with.
