The wonderful folks at Lahontan Valley Veterinary Clinic were life-savers for me this weekend. I needed some last-minute care for my pup while on a work trip and they took amazing care of him. My dog is usually nervous around the vets and especially lobbies full of dogs but he was all smiles and wags with the staff. I couldn't be more appreciative! I would recommend this clinic to anyone in the area and know I have people I can trust whenever I'm back up in northern Nevada for work. Ingot misses you all already! read more

The only reason I give a 2 is because of other staff but Dr. Lyle Whitaker has on 1 occasion caused extreme trauma to my cat because he failed to administer the sedative to my cat, he tried four attempts to put a needle in his buttock. I left that day with a cat carrier covered in shit a cat covered in shit because he was trying to administer the shot while the cat was in the carrier. That pissed me off but I always give people chances. (Side note: a different Dr (From Lahontan) was able to the same shot a week later with no issues) My next visit (Today) I needed paper work filled out to get my cat ready to go to Thailand and I asked the clinic to have a usda accredited vet sign this paper work. Thailand is very strict about bringing animals into the country. Dr. Lyle Whitaker Signed the paper work, I then gave that paperwork to the service that will be transporting the cat to Thailand . They immediately called me and told me Dr. Lyle Whitaker was not accredited and if I had used the paper work I would have had to leave Thailand and my cat would be permanently banned. This not only would have cost me thousands of dollars I would have had to leave my best friend behind. I went back to the vet to have another Dr fill out the paperwork who was actually accredited , when I told them of the situation they said. He " Dr. Lyle Whitaker" knew his paperwork hadn't cleared yet for the accreditation. If that was the case then why did he fill my paperwork out? This could have been a major problem for my wife and I as well as my cat. The incompetence in this case is inexcusable and because this vet gave all the vaccines I'm forced to use them for the final exam and USDA approved paperwork to be drawn. If anyone need their animal to be treated I wouldn't use Dr. Lyle Whitaker but furthermore if you need to transport your animal to a different country I wouldn't go to Lahontan as they seem not to know how to properly handle this situation. This Dr should not be signing any documents until he is officially accredited and Lahontan should have know this before allowing him to. read more

Losing a dog is rough. The staff here is amazing. They are so polite and don't ask 100 question like some other vets. I lost my dog last night and called them today to get her cremated. I could not speak on the phone because I was in tears. They just asked for me to take my dog in as soon as possible. I got there and went inside then they met me outside to get my dog. I also got a dog paw print and I'm in love with it. They brought it out to me fast and didn't make me wait. This place is the best place to take your animals. They care a lot. Fantastic experience! Had the vet come out to our ranch to geld our colt and then to treat some proud flesh on another horse. Everything was done quickly, smoothly, and effectively! I was expecting a more drastic approach to get rid of the proud flesh but instead was given an alternate option that was much less invasive. When I scheduled the appointment to have my 16 year old dog with congestive heart failure put to sleep I was told we would be in a room where we could hold him during the procedure instead the vet and tech held him we were not even asked if we wanted to hold him. They gave him the shots and held him until he passed he was terrified the entire time it was one of the worst things I have ever watched. we even asked for the sedative so he would be calm and comfortable but the did not even wait for it to really work. They made us feel like it was an inconvenience. I would never take another pet there. read more

Do not recommend! Rude staff and over charged. I highly recommend getting a written quote before any services, quoted $225, charged $471. I took our brown lab to get spayed and were quoted $225.00, we added the cone and her vaccinations knowing it would be about $60-$80 more. When we picked her up they charged us $471.00. They said it was because of her age and size but nothing was said about an additional per pound fee when the appointment was made. We will not be returning. read more

Staff went more than the extra mile to take care of us. Doc's were caring and more importantly honest with their treatment recommendations- we did not get a walletectomy. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 15 years of being a breeder and going to countless clinics all over the country! An inexperienced receptionist cost us $4000. We scheduled a surgical procedure for a puppy 2 wks before the age of 13 wks. After telling her the age of the puppy 2 wks prior. Which is the cut off period for having the procedure done. We cancelled another appointment we had because this place was a lot closer. After taking off of work and prepping our puppy for surgery I called to ask a few post op questions, she tells me that the surgery was not today and that it was just a "consultation" To my surprise I asked her why didn't she tell me this 2 wks ago! She flat out lies and says that she did. After trying to explain to her the situation, she just kept saying "how can I help you" she then sends me a text saying that my appointment is canceled and to go elsewhere. I asked to speak to the manager and was hung up on. So now it's to late to get any procedure done at this point. She didn't apologize or offer any solutions, she just rudely told me to stop talking when I tried to explain the circumstance she put us in. I will never call this place again for anything! read more

They are nice and seem to know what they're doing, but the first time I let them take my 4 month old puppy into the back without me they clipped his virgin nails. I'm very upset about this as I wanted to be the one who did it and they didn't even say anything about it to me. I noticed as soon as he jumped up on me and I had to ask if they cut his nails. I'm just sad and mourning his puppy claws that he'll never get back and there's nothing I can do about it except yelp. :( read more

My cat was found as a stray and brought into this vet by a coworker of mine. They immediately deemed him as being feral (he is 100% not feral) and then proceeded to treat him poorly because of that. He had an infection in his eyes caused by his lids curling into the eyeball. They did surgery for a temporary fix by placing sutures in the corners of both eyes. I went in the next day to pick him up where they gave me very little information, an ointment for his eyes, and sent me on my way telling me to return in 2 weeks. So 2 weeks later I take him back to get the sutures removed. I was met by an incredibly rude front desk person. I asked about getting a different medication for his eyes because the ointment was impossible to get in his eyes. A vet tech came out and took my cat to the back to remove the sutures, she also said she'd ask about a different medication. A short while later she brought my cat back out to me and told me the vet said there is no other medication to use unfortunately, but she would show me how to give him the ointment. So her and another vet tech took us into a room and demonstrated the best way to get the ointment in his eyes. This would be the only reason I'm giving this place 2 stars, strictly because the two vet tech girls were very nice and helpful. So combining my first experience of picking him up and then the rude behavior on my second visit I decided to get a copy of his records and transfer him to a new vet. And boy am I glad I did! He had an upper respiratory infection, ear mites, and required permanent surgery on his eyelids otherwise he would eventually go blind. His surgery took place about 3 weeks after this vet removed his sutures and I was shocked and disgusted to find out that this vet had left suturing in his eye!!! They were so focused on rushing him out the door like he didn't matter that they gave him poor treatment and didn't care about giving my cat the best treatment possible. I am so thankful that I chose to transfer my cat to another vet, because who knows what could have happened if I hadn't. read more

BEWARE! The people at this vet clinic (the vet herself, the front desk lady, and the assistants) made me so uncomfortable by laughing at my dog and taunting us that I'll never return to it. I was polite and friendly during the whole appointment. I wasn't being an unfriendly, aggressive customer that would prompt rudeness from them. They were just being unfriendly, rude people. After returning to mainland America from a term in the Army and living in Hawaii, I found my dog, which I had left with my family, to be significantly overweight and with a large growth on her paw. I brought her to this clinic for a full check up, nail clipping, and to check out the growths. However, the vet assistants proved to be rather unfriendly, and while they were all in the other room trimming my dog's nails, I heard them repeatedly making jokes and laughing at her. After it continued for too long, I opened the door to see what was going on, and found all the assistants and the vet surrounding my dog in a circle and laughing and taunting her (my dog immediately began whimpering abd trying to run over to me). They saw me and they all stopped immediately and lowered their heads and began cooing softly to her. The vet wasn't particularly friendly either, however, she did her job. She seemed to get intimidated when I would ask her questions (she would make it a point to use a long, textbook medical term that no one besides veterinarians and vet techs would be familiar with). She was in the room doing the examination while a vet tech was with her, holding my dog down. Another vet tech came in as well, looked at the other vet tech, and they both smiled at one another, as if there was a joke that I hadn't been let in on. After the exam, and learning that my dog has cancer, I expressed to the vet how her team was making me feel: ostracized and uncomfortable. She apologized and said she would talk to them (however, I suspect that the reason why her team feels comfortable laughing at her customers and their dogs in front of her is because the vet herself either initiates it, or allows it to happen on a regular basis). Again, at no time did I become aggressive or rude during any of these ordeals. After I said thanks and went to the front desk to pay, one of the vet techs that i had complained about walked out to bring garbage outside, but as she was walking by me, she was smiling broadly and stifling a laugh. I asked the receptionist for the owner or manager's contact information, and I explained why. She gave me a card and I paid, but as I began to leave, another customer made a loud comment with his back turned to me: "Damn, that's a huge dog!!!" The receptionist that I had just spoken to let out a loud, noticeably sustained and almost taunting laugh. I paused, but continued to push open the door and leave. I'll never return to this place, and I will be sharing my experience with others. This vet clinic is full of unfriendly, judgmental, caddy women. BEWARE! read more

Visiting family from out of state, my dog got attacked and bit by another dog. The workers at Lahontan Veterinary Clinic were very helpful in advise when we called. When we decided to bring her in, even though they did not have any appointment times for us to make, they told us to come in and they would squeeze us in when they could. We arrived in the morning and it surprisingly did not take long to be seen. The doctor was incredibly kind and helpful. My husband and I had to put our beloved cat Casey to sleep last week. It was devastating for me to even call the vet and make the appointment. The front desk was very kind and the vet and his tech gave Casey a shot of tranquilizer so he wouldn't suffer and then left us alone to say goodbye to him. They came back after a few minutes to put him down and everything was a blur for a while after that. They were so kind and sent me a condolence card with his paw print. They offer a service down in Hawthorne, NV once a month. I took my dog to them, and they seemed friendly. He had a yeast infection in his ears, and we got him microchiped. He already had all his shots and was neutered. They charged me a bill of $89.74, which I used my bank card and signed and kept a copy of the receipt. The next day, I got a charge of $118.99 to my bank account. I called them after I was declined at another business for not having enough funds(my job only pays me $130 a week), And they claimed they called my wife and left a message that they forgot to charge me for the chip, and just added it to my current charges since they already have my signature. My wife was never contacted by them. I signed for $89.74, and that is what I expected to be charged, not this unauthorized $118.99. They should have just taken the money that was authorized, then contacted us, told us about the mix up, then sent us a bill for the $29.25 rather than just take it without any notification. Instead I had to find out by being embarrassed in public trying to buy 2 gallons of milk and some cheese, and not being able to cover a $10 charge. They seemed nice, but their business practices are illegal. Just because they have your signature shouldn't mean they can charge your card any amount they want. read more

I love this place! I have been bringing all my animals here at the recommendation of my grandma who brought all hers here as well. Every time you leave your animal here for any type of surgery they send you pictures via text message to let you know how they are doing. They are an extremely friendly staff and always treat my pets as lovingly as I do. Also, it's worth mentioning that I have never seen a pet who didn't love the staff. I have had been burned two times the first time was when I took my puppy to get fixed when she was under I got a call from the vet ask if it ok to take out two baby Teeth I said to take them out and one on the baby teeth is still in her mouth she now has her permanent tooth and baby tooth in the same spot the second time was 6/22/16 I took my new dog to be microchip and get his ear look at it went fine tell I went to pay the bill the paperwork said the bill was $90 and today i went on my bank account and was not happy to see that they took $120 for my account $30 of which was not authorized by me so I call lahontn Valley and They said that they left a message on my phone and they did not do I will never be going back to this vet again read more

My dog, Belle, got hit by a truck today and I called Lahontan Valley Vets. They were wonderful. They took her in immediately took x-rays, gave her pain meds and didn't charge me an "arm and a leg" for the visit. Thank you to all of you that were so helpful. I use this vet clinic for all of my dogs shots and checkups. The doctors and assistant's are always friendly and caring. The front desk, eh? but then again, the front desk has to deal with all of the money and phone calls. I imagine it gets frustrating at times. This animal hospital (doctors, staff, everyone) is wonderful. My baby girl pup got parvo at 6 mos. old. They took exceptional care of her for 5 days; I called everyday and spoke with her caregiver who treated her like her own. If we had taken her to any other animal hospital, who knows if she would've survived. The exquisite care this facility offers is something to trust when it comes to your pet kids. I have never been subject to such rude and heartless treatment as i was treated by the ladies at the front desk of LVVC. After learning my cat had complete kidney failure and there was nothing that could be done, I had to do the unthinkable and have her put to sleep. The Dr.was very gracious and gave me the time I needed to grieve before having to leave. As I entered the reception area, I stopped and the desk, expecting to pay my bill. The Dr. (again, very gracious) told me not to worry about it, we could take care of it later. I told her I would be getting off work at 11:00 am the following morning, that I would be in after that to pay my bill. The following morning, WHILE AT WORK, the red head receptionist calls me and bellows out, "We need to make arrangement for payment for your cat!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I am at work !!!!!!!!!!!!! After I had already gave a very specific time when I would pay my bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I did get to the clinic to pay my bill, I asked "Who was it that called me at work about this ?" She throws herself around the corner and with much attitude announced she was the one who had made the call. I tried very calmly to expalin to her just how rude her phone call me at work was and the B*^&% started to argue with me. ARE YOU KIDDING ME ????????????????????????? She may not have a heart for animals (in which case, she really should get a new job) but I loved my cat of 14 years. She was a constant, minute by minute, day by day companion for me. And now I have an emptiness in my life that one cannot even imagine, only to be taunted by her and harrassed over a bill that was accrued only 16 hours earlier. REALLY !!!!!!! This vet clinic is definitely as good as it gets. There's none better, and I can definitely see why they are the best in Fallon. I'm not sure what M M.'s or Christopher B's problems were with LVVC, but everyone from the receptionists to the doctors were absolutely great! I have been using them for years and will definitely continue to do so. Despite it being busy the last time that I went in, they got me in very efficiently and were kind throughout the entire thing. The doctors know exactly what they are doing and are always so kind to both the pet and the owner. They're able to find out exactly what is wrong and I trust my pets in their hands. The prices are also very reasonable. I have taken my animals to Lahontan Valley Vet Clinic for 10+ years. I drive 20+ miles one way as I am not comfortable with the two different vet clinics in my town. My 15 year old cat has been in renal failure for 3+ years and Dr. Schank has worked with me patiently to teach me to administer shots as well as IV fluid therapy. I would not hesitate to take any of my animals to any of the 5 vets here and cannot imagine having to go to another vet clinic. I chose to take my friend's very ill dog to them on a Saturday and she got the compassionate care she needed quickly and economically. She is bouncing off the walls and my friend is so happy I took his best friend to my vet. Their hours are convenient and the doctors really care about animals. read more

I'm new in town and was told that this was the place to take my dog. He had been losing weight and so we took him in. After spending 500+ on my dog, we still didn't know what was wrong. I don't mind spending the money, but not that much and still don't know what's wrong. So I took him to another vet here in town and it took him about 30 minutes to find out what was wrong. I had to put my dog down a couple of day ago because he had cancer. So, I just want to say thank you to Dr. cooper and I hope he enjoys the money he got from me. Shame on you. read more
