I don't know where to start. They are amazing. They do genuinely care. Any time your animal is sick- it's already a horrible time. I really hate going to the vet, my dog is extremely temperamental. He's usually terrified of people and won't stop barking. It's normally a really stressful process all around. He was vocal at first, but he let them approach him. We went in for a couple of things. The Dr asked us to come back in a week just to check in. When we came back one of the problems may need surgery. She discussed financial aid options. She wants to make sure there's nothing else that we can do before we go to surgery. They've been nothing but amazing. They do genuinely care about the animals and the people that come in. They always have the best interest in mind and want what's best for everyone involved. They want to make this community the best they can and they do truly make a difference. All the people are so kind and amazing. Overall this place makes such a good difference in the world! read more

Today I called because I needed to put my chinchilla down due to Malo and him becoming sick and in pain. I called to get a price of how much it would cost. I was told since they have not since my pet since February they would have to do an exam which would cost $88, then to put him down it was going to cost $110 plus an additional $160 for a little paw imprint (which i stated i couldnt afford or need due to the emergency) i was then told since the Exotic pet vet not being in my suffering pet would have to wait til next week and I could make an appointment but would have to pay the $88 up front. The girl was not compassionate at all and all the fees and money they want ans unnecessary exam when I already knew the diagnosis I felt was just money gouging. I found another vet thankfully who was able to help for much less and took much better care and were so compassionate about the situation and i had been to before. Im sad this vet turned out this way because I did like Dr Brown. But the multiple different costs is disheartening for someone who's pet is in pain and needing services for a fatal condition urgently. read more

****Update**** I really appreciate that Riverside has taken care of us and done a good job. I was however, miffed the last time we saw Dr. Kowalek who we have seen before. After our latest exam (and multiple visits in 2023-2024), he perscribed sedation before visits for my xtra-tall, 100 lb shepherd stating "He is nervous when he comes for visits". Doc talked with me afterwards and answered my questions, but I just don't agree with sedation for routine vet visits unless absolutely necessary. I also have "white coat syndrome". I can assure you that I am not happy to see my healthcare providers & if I had a tail, it wouldn't be wagging. Like my dog, I have never growled or tried to bite anyone during my exam. Until now, we (my dog and I), have only required "sedation" for surgery. About a week after our visit, I learned that sedation had also been recommended for my friend's big-girl Shepherd puppy before her next visit for the same reason. I am NOT adding to my review to cause angst for Riverside Veterinary, but to let other pet parents know that you may be asked to sedate your super-sized dog before routine visits at this clinic. Riverside does offer free "Chi" visits where you dog can come for treats and pats to make them more comfortable when coming to the clinic. However, I find that a stop at "A Scoop or Two" ice cream on the way home for a free puppy cone works better than Trazadone. read more

Why am I giving them a 1 star? Because the reviews won't let me give them anything lower. If you want your pet to live then I am going to tell you to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! We took our dog in because she had hip and joint problems. She was in pain, she had her good days where she acted like a pup again and she had her bad days where her hips were hurting her. We took her in and they wanted to run tests on her. They came back within an hour and said that she has a heart murmur. They kept insisting that the best thing to do was to put her down. I put my foot down and said "WE ARE NOT PUTTING HER DOWN". I asked if there was any kind of pain killers that we could give her that would not make things worse. They prescribed her the pain killer liquid and it ended up drugging her up so much that she would not get off her bed. When feeding time came we had to put the bowl of food under her head so she would eat. I took her off the pain meds and she started to come around again. She had a follow up visit and they started in with us again about putting her down. We again insisted that we were not going to put her down. With the vet knowing and being the one to tell us that she also had a heart murmur, he put her on prednisolone syrup telling us that it will make her more alert and take the pain away. The medicine is a type of steroid. I gave her the meds NOT KNOWING THAT IT WAS GOING TO MAKE HER WORSE. I didn't understand why it was making her worse and looked up the info on the meds. when I was doing the research on the meds it read in bold letters - do not give to a dog if the dog has a heart murmur. within a couple of days, my dog died from all the side effects the steroids can do to a dog with a heart murmur. They called my dog a geriatric dog, and they wanted to put her down so much that they gave her meds that would kill her. This place should have their licenses taken away for good!!! I spoke with others that took their dogs there and they said the same thing. That they are more into euthanasia than they are into helping the animal. I am not the only person that this has happened to with this vet and my recommendation to you is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE - IT IS AN AWFUL PLACE TO GO AND EVEN WORSE FOR YOUR ANIMALS. Not to mention how overpriced they are. ANYONE WHO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MEDICINE KNOWS THAT YOU DO NOT GIVE A DOG WITH A HEART MURMUR STEROIDS BECAUSE IT WILL CAUSE HEART FAILURE!!! My dog was attacked by another dog and broke 2 bones in his foot. This vet stated he should have his foot amputated. Took my dog to another vet and they said the foot did not need to be amputated. They casted the foot for 9 weeks and now my dog is fully healed. This place also charged outrageous amounts of money. I feel like they care more about money than they do about the animals. Several of my neighbors and friends have had bad experiences with this office as well. Steer clear if you love your pets! read more

The staff at the Riverside Vet in Dayton are very rude and they charged us $1,000 just for anxiety pills for a 8 pound chihuahua. My dog came in because he got a big bump on his butt and ever since we went to this vet it has gotten bigger. They did not help us with our problem and overcharged us just for "anxiety pills." They need to actually care about the animals coming into their place and not about the money! And actually smile at your customers! Very poor experience! I highly do not recommend bringing in your furry family members here! read more

Dr. K is great with my dog. His office understands & provides excellent customer service. I find good customer service a rarity these days.

The only reason why it's 1 star? Is because I can't leave half or nothing, because that's what they deserve. Service? Horrible. My dog needed emergency surgery, bleeding everywhere, and they denied us service. And our 20 year old Chihuahua denied her medication for her heart after years of service. They don't want to help your pets, they just want your money. Don't give to them. Your money, or your fur babies. read more

I have been a couple of times and each time the staff has been very good with both of my pets. I have had interactions with 3 vets and 3 vet techs so i feel like i have had a good variety of the staff helping my pets and all have been really sweet and gentle with my pets. That being said, I do feel like they gouge you on the cost of the prescriptions or anything "medically" necessary. There are not many options within a 10 mile radius, they may get away with the higher costs since there are only a few options nearby. I will continue to take my pets here, but will ask how much everything they are advising to treat the condition for my pet is, prior to just accepting the items/prescriptions they give me. My previous vet never charged as much for prescriptions or medical devices, so this price gouging seems excessive in my mind. read more

Appointments are readily available. All staff has been kind to me and my pets. I have interacted with vet tech Margaret on multiple occasions and I love her her love for the animals. They are responsive with pharmacy requests. They have been a great accommodating vet for my 3 dogs! I highly recommend using their services as an established client. read more

Very dedicated and caring Veterinary staff. Billing and their statements for more than one animal at a visit having several things done or larger surgeries done together was pretty confusing especially when you have to put a deposit down on each dog getting spayed and then pay separately for each one's bloodwork and the whole experience left me feeling like I was just shelling out ridiculously large amounts of money because I had assumed I had paid some prior or that the bloodwork was included with the surgeries.. to be fair I am not the best at mental math and my pups are rescues and are a little wild still when we're out and about so it's entirely possible that I was too distracted to pay closer attention when it was explained to me initially how they billed for spay surgeries. I would give 4.5 stars if I could cause the hospital and its vet staff really are fantastic! read more

Could give less than 1 star if it were possible. Prescribed my dog the WRONG DOSAGE medicine multiple times for a heart murmur, she was sick for days. When I asked them to correct the dosage I was given the run around and told that they felt "uncomfortable" prescribing the correct dosage that she's been on for over 8 years. They also had multiple different receptionists call me over and over asking me the exact same question, super unprofessional and it's very obvious they don't take notes from any conversations they have with their patients. I had to euthanize my munchkin cat who was 18 years old. They showed much compassion to me and to my precious companion. The price was considerably high, over $200 and I took my dear friend home to give her a proper burial. And nearly $200 for a "group" cremation. I give them 5 stars because they were very kind with me and my precious companion. read more

I have had a couple of great visits. Both times have been with Dr. Brown. Dr. Brown and her assistant Margaret are a match made in Heaven. They are so down to earth. They both take so much time getting to know your dog. They seem to really care for what they are doing. I have found our new vet and also have referred my son and daughter with there dogs. I suggest finding a more qualified veterinarian for your babies. I advise NOT allowing any pet over 8 years old to have any operation no matter what the test results come back showing. read more

Don't care for the way they took care of my dog they made her cry four times trying to give her a shot very unhappy will not go back

We have taken our cats and dogs to Dayton Riverside for years and they have always provided us with good honest service. There is a new Veterinarian providing care there and we experienced good quality service for our dog when she was in obvious pain. The only thing I have to say is I wish the COVID restrictions were lifted a bit, as my dog was nervous and afraid when they took her into the building without me. read more

This is the worst vet in town. There is an elderly vet who stepped down and a new young man has taken over. The elderly vet never cared about taking a look at our puppies skin condition and always told us it was nothing. The new vet told us he thought he just needed to "grow out of it" and we had to push for a skin test and a blood test. Which the new vet did after 3 visits for the same issue. He said the results came back that the puppy was just fine. We took him into a new vet who immediately found the puppy to be nutrient deficient and deduced our puppy had a parasite of some sort. He is now on antibiotics and dewormer and looking much better. Please be warned before going to this vet. They could not tell with there blood work he was nutrient deficient and never even thought he could of had a parasite of some sort. Also the staff seemed to hurt my puppy bad while struggled with taking a skin sample and made my puppy cry out for about 15 seconds where this new vet (DaytonValleyVet) did the same test and only received licks and wiggles. read more

I have never had a problem getting an appointment quickly. Dr. Larson is kind and compassionate and his staff have always greeted me warmly and taken the time to explain everything that I need to understand to care for my pets. Dr. Larson is the only veterinarian at the hospital and if he is already with a client, he cannot leave to help a walk-in. Any one with an "extremely sick dog" should take it to an emergency veterinary hospital for immediate treatment. If you had an extremely sick child, you would take her to Emergency, not to your doctor's office, no matter how long he has been your doctor. Even in a frightening situation, common sense, not emotion, needs to win out. read more
