I was in a major accident which totaled my truck. Lake Almanor Towing towed the truck to their yard. A few days later i went back yo retrieve my personal belongings. I spoke to a really kind and tall guy there. He was super nice. My insurance company had me go back and take photos, making me relive the trauma. The next time they made me go back and retrieve the license plates. This time, the same tall guy told me I didn't have to do that, and couldn't have done it because the car had been removed by the insurance company. Been coming up here for 50 years we first moved here about five years ago. We had a beautiful car and they decided to put our camera system attached to our battery instead of the easy plug in our car which caused damage to our engine we actually had to purchase a new car when we saw it acting out and we asked them to take care of it. They avoided it would not recommend this place as a Mechanic. Their value and integrity is extremely questionable when I filed a better business report, which should be private. They decided to call me up and tell me to take my report off. We've had issues ever since it also seemed to go straight into the country club where I've been going there all my whole Life and caused quite a bit of. On December 17, 2026 I was driving from Reno, through Susanville to Red Bluff. I stopped in Chester, CA to stretch my legs and look around. I got back to my car and it would not start. I had had my alternator replaced several times and had a feeling that was the problem. I called AAA and was told I'm out of tows. They gave me the number for Lake Almanor Towing. I called and spoke with Brandon and he gave me a quote for a tow back to Reno. He was backed up with work and wouldn't be able to work on my car for a week. I had a moment of panic since I didn't have the money for the tow. I made some calls and called him back. He allowed for somebody else to call him with credit card info and the cost was taken care of. It was the end of the day so he closed up shop and came to get me and my very old car! He could probably see how stressed out I was and was so nice. The plan was to tow to Susanville and then towed to Reno the next day. He told me stories all the way to Susanville. Experienced a flat tire while on vacation near Lake Almanor. Called AAA and Derek arrived within 30 minutes. Not only did he replaced the flat, front tire with a spare, he also took the extra step to rotate the rear tire to the front to provide better traction. Additionally, Derek recommended a local park with a river running through it, which the kids enjoyed. Took the flat tire into his shop the next morning, Derek worked on it immediately and even performed the soap test to ensure no leakage. My car had a boulder that came off the mountain on 32 and hit my oil pan, axile under my car. I was in an area with no cell service and full sun with two pups. When the Lake Almanor towing came four hrs. later. Being not from the area I asked the driver where I should go for repair the guy said he didn't know. I'm not from the area, I ask you must know some where. He said he didn't but it would cost me $8.00 a mile. I did have AAA, which covers 5 miles I decided to have it towed to VW Dealership in Chico. After five hrs in the sun and the driver lack of knowledge, he had the nerve to charge me $10 a mile after he already quoted me $8.00. I suggest if you have to use this company talk with the office as the driver was not the sharpest tool. read more

I would give them 10 stars if I could! My car broke down in lassen volcanic NP so with very little service I called AAA. I was lucky that this was the towing company I got. Lake Almanor Towing employee Nick met me at the visitor center with his tow. I was visibly shaken and frazzled by what had happened with my car and it was past midnight and I was solo traveling so I was alone. Nick did everything he could to make me feel comfortable. He gave me advice on what to do and on the drive to chester (since I couldn't be brought to a major city so late at night), he tried his best to cheer me up and help me think positively about my situation. I really needed that in that moment! In the morning I was helped by the company manager Thor. Although I am sure his sole role was to get me to where I wanted to go in chico, Thor went above and beyond to help me. He made it a priority for my car to get towed asap in the morning. I have never had to get my car repaired somewhere far from my home so he gave me advice on what to say when I called the mechanics, that I should call my car insurance asap, and he answered quite a few questions I had about my situation. Thors job appears very hectic, and I'm sure it isn't everyday that they get a young woman stranded at their shop, but his help meant a lot to me and ultimately made the whole process of getting my car repaired as quickly as possible much easier and less stressful. The accident with my car and the situation of me being alone, having little service and being far from home could have been a lot worse if I didn't have the help of the kind and caring employees at this business! My tow truck operator was very nice, but this company charged $300 an hour, for a total of $900 to get my car down the driveway only. Luckily I had the money, but from what I have researched other tow companies charge, this is outrageous, especially in a low income town. And the owner is on community social media pages insulting people too much & acting like an ass. And the building looks like crap & should be re-painted at the very least if they care about the town. read more

Toyota Roadside Assistance should get a new provider in this area. With a 10 hour drive ahead of us, we found ourselves with a dead car battery. Toyota called this service to help us. We waited 45 minutes. The tow truck driver gave the battery a jump which took less than 5 minutes. We then begged him to follow us into town to get gas because the tank was near empty and we were afraid to turn the car off for fear the battery wouldn't have charged enough before the tank ran dry. He refused saying he had another call. Didn't care at all that he might be stranding us again. Terrible service. UPDATE: Sure enough. Stranded at the gas station with a dead battery. Thanks for nothing Lake Almanor Towing. We would have been better off flagging down someone off the street. read more

4 of us were on the way to Quincy car show, in four hot rods. i hit a rock from a slide. broke oil pan and trans pan. no cell service. buddies went ahead and called for tow. Derek the driver showed up sooner than i thought would ever happen. extremely professional, friendly and very careful with my 32 ford roadster. he even shared his bag of hot pork Rines. the only down side of this experience is he didn't have any chulula sauce for the pork rines. lol. This is a review on Lake Almanor tow truck company specifically their technician : After several attempts to free our vehicle after getting stuck in the ice on an unplowed road we gave in and decided to go ahead and call a tow truck. I was so relieved to see a truck ,But instead of pulling up to us to park a quarter-of a mile in front of us. I started walking halfway the distance to meet him to let him know what the situation was, iMy husband is disabled and he been working really hard and couldn't walk anymore to get up there and instead of being "I'm gonna take care of this ,we're gonna get you home safe",he started talking down to me and said itI was gonna be $1500 minimal 300.00 an hour and he was going to bill for the half hour to get to us. He was verbally abusive calling us shitheads Then said he was leaving us out here cause we deserved it for being stupid. He thought he was gonna leave a disabled man and woman out in the middle of a forest but instead he got to witness a Good Samaritan Drive up behind us and tow us 500 ft . Took 10 minutes to free us! Don't mess with Gods Children. Update as of two days later Spoke to the owner about the situation and was treated with concern and respect. I feel better for not letting this go. I was broke down near Susanville, CA. I needed my motorcycle towed to dealer near Oroville. Driver said ib was covered by my AAA. He left with my bike and I left for Oroville to meet him next morning. I was informed the next morning (I was 100 miles away) that AAA would not cover the tow (not true. I got reference # from AAA). They had my motorcycle hostage on their truck. Charged me $1400 to get my bike 140 miles. I had to pay to get it back. I am pushing options with AAA but the very least should be the loss of the AAA "franchise". Never do business with this outfit. read more

They ended up driving to get our parts. They also took us to our camp and picked us up when the truck was fixed. I could not recommend this place more highly. We had just packed up our car to return home after a beautiful vacation. Our car wouldn't start. Totally dead. The AAA sent them to tow us. We arrived at the tiny garage in a very small town. And the first thing you realise in a situation like this is that you are totally at the mercy of the place you are towed to. The mechanic can say anything he likes, they can charge anything they like. We could go nowhere. Dan the mechanic immediately dropped what he was working on and took a look. He told us before he looked that if it required anything more than a jump start (the car being a Toyota Prius with a hybrid engine), that he didn't have the proper equipment to work on it. I knew then that the place was OK. An honest mechanic. He wasn't going to try fitting several unnecessary parts before telling us with a sad shake of the head that we needed to take it elsewhere! Alas, it needed more than a jump start and this is where this very professional company really shone. It was Tuesday, the car couldn't be towed to a Toyota repair shop until Friday (because of problems caused by us not them). So now we have a dead car, work tomorrow and no way to get home. They are the only place in town with a car to hire, again they could charge whatever they want, we are hundreds of miles from home. But they quote a perfectly fair price. Then we have the problem of returning the rental car as only my husband drives, so they offer to meet us at the dealers 75 miles away on Friday and take the rental car back from there. As we are removing a few necessary possessions from the car we realize we have to leave two very expensive kayaks tied to the roof. We didn't even have to ask them about this, they offered to remove them and store them safely for us. A relief indeed! As for payment we were amazed that they only charged us for 3 days rental and insurance (technically it was 3 days, but we had certainly had it for parts of 4 days and l am sure all the big companies would have charged for 4) . They made no charge for storing our car for 3 nights or for any time spent looking at our car. Everyone, Dan the mechanic, Thur who sorted out all our problems and Derek the tow truck driver was helpful, honest and professional. It was almost worth breaking down to find that there are still decent and honest people out there. To all of them, thank you and to anyone unfortunate enough to break down in the area, or to those locals lucky enough to choose this as the place for their regular service l would say don't hesitate to go here. Hit a rock which punched a hole in our Audi transmission and all the fluid leaked out. These guys were great. Towed the car to their shop, trouble shot the problem then towed the car to the Marin dealer - 220 miles from Chester (thanks AAA premium!). The dealer had to order a replacement transmission from Germany. Car runs like new and the insurance classified the damage as "collision" so the replacement transmission was covered by insurance. read more

I got my lifted Ford-150 stuck at the Chester Warner Valley Rd and Old Red Bluff Rd junction in about 3 ft of snow when my winch cable broke. Had to walk over a mile to receive cel service. Called these guys and talked to Thor and Scott. Originally they said they'd be out in about an hour to come get me. An hour and a half later I called again and they told me the truck they sent to come get me got stuck twice and had to turn back. They were going to have to send their snow cat back to get me. It would be at least another three hours before they could get back to me. They finally showed up about three hours later. It took Scott almost 2 hours to get my truck unstuck because the snow was so deep and soft. It was getting dark and I was still 6 miles from the plowed paved road. Scott stayed with me the whole time and had to pull me most of the six miles to the plowed paved road. The bad news is it cost me $875. The good news is I didn't have to spend the night with my two dogs and no food or water. Scott was awesome and worked his ass off in that snow cat to get me out of there. We were towing a horse trailer with a horse in a snow storm, and the brakes went out on our truck. Luckily, we had cell service and called AAA. To our great relief, Dan from Lake Almanor Towing was there in a half hour. He loaded our truck on his flatbed wrecker and hitched up the horse trailer to the wrecker. We arrived at the shop about 4:30pm, and he parked horse trailer with the horse in a sheltered spot. He said if he could find the problem with the brakes by 4:45 he could order the parts, and we would be on the road the next day. It turned out a brake line had cracked and we had lost all the hydraulic fluid. Sure enough, Dan had us on the road at 11 am the next morning, and the repair costs were less than I would have paid in Santa Cruz. Dan, many thanks! read more
