My daughter's car needed towing last night. She had recently been hit in the left front side by a deer. The car was still drivable but has been totaled by the insurance company. We're waiting for the duplicate pink slip. But last night ended the drivable aspect. Our insurance company was confusing to file a claim so I just called this company. I gave him my card number to pay the $350, which took a bit of time. But finally he had enough information. I asked him how long and he said as long as it took to drive about 15 miles. I expected about 20 minutes. Much longer! It was very cold and getting dark. When the truck finally arrived Steve, the driver, asked who was paying. My son-in-law and I both told him that I had already paid. He told me that the guy on the phone decided to have him get the payment info so he wouldn't have to go to the office. I was not happy. Steve, however, was very friendly and kind. We appreciated his help. He towed the car to our house as we requested and unloaded it where my husband directed. On December 17,2025 I was going from Reno to Red Bluff. I stopped in Chester, CA and my car would not restart. It could not be fixed for a week, so I arranged for a tow to Reno with Lake Almanor Towing- Brandon was great! Somebody else called Brandon with CC number and the full tow was paid for. It was late so the car was towed to Susanville Towing, their brother company. I was staying across the street at a motel when I got a call from Brian at Susanville Towing. He asked me if somebody could come over and get the keys so he could get to work on it. I told him that the alternator had been replaced several times, on warranty. He called my mechanic, in Reno, and ordered up another alternator under the warranty. When all was said and done I asked him how much I owed him and he said "Nothing". He said it didn't take long and the part was under warranty. I almost cried. To add icing on the cake he refunded the majority of the fee for the tow because he didn't do the tow to Reno. This was refunded that day within a couple of hours. Brandon, form Lake Almanor Towing, and Brian, from Susanville Towing, made a really stressful situation not seen quite so bad. I can't say enough good things about these guys! On a recent hiking trip I blew out my radiator about 30 miles north of Susanville. After calling AAA, Bryan from Susanville Towing showed up in less than 40 minutes and got me back to town. The biggest issue was being Friday and nobody in town had a radiator for my truck. This shop was backed up but Garrett went above and beyond for us. He was super busy and didn't work on Saturday. However, he ordered a radiator for next day delivery and came in to work anyway! He had us back on the road by noon and we were able to continue on with our trip. They also charged us an extremely fair price! The ladies in the office even gave us a loaner car Friday afternoon so we could transfer our bags to the hotel. I called and told the lady I needed premium gas. She understood and said she would let the driver know. I asked the driver if the gas was premium, he said no. I said I cannot put anything but premium in this car I have done it before and the car shuts off. It will not start without it. He said "Well, you don't get the gas then" and I said Are you serious? My car only takes premium gas. Then he got in his truck and left. Called the lady back and told her the situation, she sided with him and talked about his tow accomplishments. After a long day of driving and being thoroughly exhausted I decided to set up camp near Susanville. When I started setting up my camper my dog hit the lock button on my car locking me out. Fortunately there was a towing company 12 miles away Susanville Towing. Unfortunately the owner was rude and unreasonable and tried to charge me $300 four less than an hour's work. I stressed my dogs were in the car and that was my main concern and then I just wanted to get them out. I offered to pay him his hourly wage what you told me was 150$. He told me to call another towing company and hung up the phone leaving my dogs locked in the car. What a POS. So.....5/13,2019 Location. Pine View Mobile home park, Susanville, CA. roughly 10:15 am. Had to have a 1995 Camaro that belongs to my wife's Sister jump started and eventually towed. The Operators, Logan and Johnathon were extremely helpful in many aspects which included finding us a retailer for a brand new battery after he (Logan) could not get us into Susanville towing for whatever reason that arose??? He got us into Jackson's service center and they did a great job getting that car back on the road with a brand new Interstate Battery. I cannot say enough about Justin and his team at Susanville Towing. We lost our brakes about 30-miles away from our campsite and somehow actually got into the site. With no cell service, I hitched a ride to Susanville (42 miles) and the locals dropped us off with confidence, saying "They will take are of you - everything from towing, rental car, and fixing your truck." Which is exactly what they did... and MORE. The owner personally called our mechanic in Los Angeles to discuss the situation with the brakes, arranged to have him pay for the repairs, and got us back in our truck within 2 days. While we were driving back to Los Angeles, there was something up, called them, and they let us know how to handle it... and asked us to call them as soon as we got home. Kindness. Honestly. Scumbags is not a word I throw around lightly. After 100+ reviews of businesses, I have only ever given 1 other 1 star review and I wish there was an option for 0. So what happened. My daughter ran off the road about 43 Mi north of Susanville and needed a tow. She called Susanville Towing to come and get her. The dispatcher quoted her $4 a mile both ways so should be approximately $350 give or take, expensive but Its a 40 mile tow, so Okay she'll eat it. Upon getting their they inform her that she cant ride in the tow truck, COVID. A passerby offers to give her a ride so she doesn't have to stand on the side of the road in the middle of no ware at 7:30 AM in sub freezing temperatures; while I drive 2 Hrs. from Reno to get her. Unfortunately they're going North , so that adds another hour to my drive. As if this wouldn't warrant 1 star it actually gets worse. We get to the Tow company and they inform us its now a $750 bill. Why you ask, because she called the CHP to report she had run of the road. So they decide to charge $300 an Hr. as a state recovery even though she hired them and the state didn't. Now the car is only 35 minutes from the tow company so should be less than an hour and a half but they rounded up to an hour both ways and a half hour to put the car on the truck, so 2 1/2 hrs. But it gets worse. After having it in there for 3 hours they wouldn't give it back unless she paid a $60 a day storage and if you'll remember the only reason it took us that long is because they left her there. They tried to not let me see the car, saying the car was badly damaged and that it couldn't be moved, so they could run up the storage fees. As it turned out it had just stalled when she went off the road and my daughter being 23 didn't know any better. She drove home and the tow cost $810. These are the shady scumbags that you see in movies and think that this kind of theft can't still be going on in 2021. I'm putting this warning out there, so other travelers will know that they will do and say anything to cheat you. Be warned. Check out the similar reviews here. read more

Was staying in Susanville on a job and my truck wouldn't start. Called AAA for a jump and susanville towing showed up in less than 15 minutes. Got my truck jumped and driver was very nice despite it being 18 degrees outside. I asked where I could get a new battery thinking he would try to sway me to their shop and overcharge me. He didn't. He offered to install any battery I chose for free back at the shop and referred me to Walmart and a few parts houses. He mentioned his shop sells interstate batteries but wasnt pushy at all. I tried Walmart first and found a battery but it seemed high in price for only 800 cranking amps. I ended up going to susanville towing and purchased an 890 cranking amp battery for the same price as Walmart's 800. Susanville towing installed the battery and had me out the door in 20 minutes. I was traveling from Santa Clara to Susanville with my family. On CA 36 my car hit some falling rocks and ended up with two flat tires. We were picked up by Tony from Susanville Towing who took us and our car all the way to our hotel in Susanville -- approximately 84 miles. I already knew one of the rims was damaged and suspected the second might be too. Being in a strange place with no Lexus dealer and a tight schedule, I knew I was at the mercy of the towing company. This all took place on Friday and we were worried we'd all miss work appointments and school on Monday and possibly longer. Brian at ST came to the rescue. Earlier Tony replaced one of the damaged tires with my spare. Then Saturday morning Brian found a used wheel and tire for the other damaged wheel. Brian charged me $78. He could have taken advantage of our misfortune but instead, he went out of his way to be helpful and neighborly. Brian even came to pick me up at my meeting and took me to his shop to pick up my car. I highly recommend Brian, Tony and Susanville Towing for honest work and reasonable prices!!! read more

I am from San Jose, CA Driving from Shasta to Reno, we had the unfortunate luck over Christmas week to have a breakdown (catastrophic failure of the rear differential) in Old Station, CA (about 60 miles west of Susanville) during a significant snowstorm. My wife and newborn were with me, and I did not have a AAA membership nor any other roadside program. From my phone, I googled the closest towing companies and Susanville Towing was the first to appear. I called and they sent a driver almost immediately as we waited 3 hours for him to get to us in the snowstorm. I asked our driver Roy where in Susanville was honest and wasn't going to gouge me for repairs. He said, "there's a dealership, or if you'd like, our shop is very honest...we won't overcharge you" I was skeptical, but I decided to take him up on the recommendation for their shop since dealerships tend to be absurd with costs. I left the truck there and was in contact with the mechanic daily (Glenn). He went far out of his way to locate a used replacement part and I was able to pick up the truck within a week for what I later learned some people have paid 2-3 times as much for the same repair elsewhere. Glenn could easily have spent less time searching for the part and said that a new part was the only option, but he had an honest intention to help me out. I am forever grateful to this shop for their hard work and for keeping my expense affordable for these 2 new parents that don't a lot of money. From a guy who's been burned by auto repair shops a lot, I whole heartedly recommend this shop! read more

Had a rental car, name was on agreement, they basically told me the rental car company had to come pick up the car all the way from Santa Ana, CA. Rental car manager that runs the company told them my name on the rental agreement gives me the right to take the car out of tow. $400 petty dollars later they released it. A hose fitting broke on our car on 395 right outside of Susanville. A sheriff stopped to see if we needed help and as we had no cell service, she called dispatch and they called Susanville Towing telling them we were AAA members and would need a flat bed as our car is all wheel drive. Dispatch said that Susanville Towing had been contacted and were on the way. This was at 12:45 pm. My husband hitched a ride at 2 pm to make sure the truck was on the way. It was not because they said we were out of their district and they were not coming. They didn't bother to call AAA to tell them. My husband called AAA and they said they would dispatch another company 100 miles away and they would be there in two hours. I then hitched a ride with my brother in law who happened by (we were all going to Reno for the airshow) and called AAA again to make sure someone was coming. They said yes, the truck was on the way. Since we were on the same road the truck would be coming on we watched and never saw a tow truck so i called AAA again and this time they told me that Susanville Tow was indeed coming (after Susanville towing said we weren't in their district). My husband hitched a ride to where he had service 5 miles away at 5:45 pm to call me and check to see if I had talked to the tow company. I had just gotten off the phone and they again assured me that a truck was in route. My husband said he was just catching a ride back to the car so I called the tow company and told them that he had just called to let me know he was still waiting and was hitching a ride back to the car. The dispatcher was rude and extremely nasty and said if he wasn't at the car when they got there they would leave. I begged her to radio the truck and tell them that if they were there he would be there in five minutes. The dispatcher then called the tow truck driver ( which consisted of a beat up pick up truck that they had impounded towing a flat bed trailer, which explains why my husband did not see a tow truck go past him) and told the driver to leave. My husband got there as he was pulling out. My husband had also left a note on the car telling the driver that he had gone 5 miles down the road to call the tow company since it was now 6 hours since he had first asked for a tow. The tow driver said he hoped the truck would make it and had my husband driver our car up on the flat bed. It was truly a horrible experience and I have filed a complaint with AAA. If I could give them a minus star for this experience I would. read more

Traveling with my mom from Oregon to Reno Nevada, one of her motorhome's rear inner tire lost it's tread on a Sunday 30 miles before Susanville. She called her "Good Sam" road side assitance... at first we were told the tow company (Susanville Towing) would charge $500 to come change the tire (membership would cover only the first $125). Mom gave her credit card number, as they would not come out without it. more than an hour later we call back to see if they were on their way, we were told the tow company "WASN'T SURE IF THEY WERE WILLING TO DRIVE OUT THAT FAR!!!!" Rather than wait to be rescued, which may not have EVER happend, we drove into Susanville at 35 mph praying the whole way! Dan's Towing, closed on Sundays, answered their phone on their day off!! THEY got us back on the road for $40! LOVE Dan's Towing!!!---We were glad to give them another $40 for a tip!!! read more

Returning to Sacramento via the Janesville grade, Susanville, Ca, when I decided to take a forest service road short cut to Antelope Lake. Clear sky, nice sunshiny day. Snow storm had passed through about a day or so earlier. Seven to eight inches of fresh powder over a previous frozen snow pack. And about 36 degrees. Not paying too much attention to the forest service road numbers, because I had taken this route on dry road several times before I was following the path of a few other driver's tracks in the snow. Unfortunately on the third fork in the road the tracks took a right turn. I should have stayed left on the road that, from that point had no tracks. About four miles further I found myself stuck in snow up to the chassis. A narrow stretch of road at about a 6% incline and very hard pack. All four tires spinning. There we stayed the night. Next morning and eight hours later, plus a 9.2 mile hike we made it back to the Janesville grade where we finally got cell service!! A 911 call brought the friendliest fire/forest rescue team ever. They went out of their way to take us to Susanville Towing where, without further stress because it was near 6pm that evening, we rented one of their cars and left my SUV to be rescued the next day. Next day returning to Susanville towing, tow truck driver Matt was assigned to the recovery. With another job already lined up, he told his boss he would take our recovery while he reassigned his previous job to another driver. His truck was a four wheel drive 13,000 pound all wheel chained up beast. During the night the snow pack refroze creating some serious problems getting to my SUV. Matt did not waver. Nor complain about the road conditions because the road gave him a serious challenge. I was not caused any further stress or doubt on his part wondering if he would be able to accomplish the task at hand. It took him nearly two hours to go the 9 mile trek to the SUV. After pulling me out of the rut I had got myself into, Matt suggested I take some air out of my tires to help with traction. Then he created a trail of packed snow with his truck. He backed up and went forward countless times to pack the snow down instructing me to slowly follow his tracks which allowed me to back down the hill nearly a mile to a small wide spot. It turned out to be the only one for another two miles. He instructed me to back into the narrow spot he created with a bit of speed and while doing so spin the front wheels quickly in the opposite direction causing the momentum of my SUV to spin around and face his truck. That was BRILLIANT. There was absolutely no danger of damage to my SUV if I had not made the spin. But I was glad I did. We were on our way!! He had to reconnect to me a few more time to get me back on track. The sun had gone down. The temp was near 32 degrees. And he was soaked to the bone having to use the shovel several times to free my tires enough to pull me away from road side trees. It took nearly four more hours to make the 9 mile journey back to pavement as Matt used his truck to plow a safer way out. I wish to offer my praise and thanks to Matt for his efforts. He was awesome!! In no way throughout the recovery was I made to feel more uncomfortable than I was already regarding this ordeal. I wish to thank Susanville Towing for employing Matt. He has unsurpassed inner strength and went out of his way, way out, to keep us safe. Many many thanks to Matt! And to Susanville Towing! read more

These people are the best. We burned out a wheel bearing in our travel trailer on Highway 395 just outside the town of Doyle in late July. We called Good Sam, and they sent Susanville Towing out to rescue us. The mobile mechanic, Daryl, was there in about fifteen minutes. He attempted to repair the bearing right there on the side of the road. Unfortunately, the job required some heavier tools, so he chained up the axle, and we slowly drove the trailer into Susanville with Daryl right behind us. The job was taken over there by Glen, a senior mechanic, who really knows his stuff. It was Saturday afternoon, and the RV parts dealer was closed for the weekend, so they let us stay in our trailer in their lot. It may not have been very scenic, but it was quiet and we felt safe the whole time. They got the parts bright and early Monday morning, and Glen had us on our way by noon. He even took the time to inspect the other three wheels on the trailer to make sure we didn't have any more problems. These guys were terrific, their work was top notch, and the price for all the work was more than reasonable. read more

We were driving from Seattle to Lake tahoe when our car began acting up and then completely died. At the time we were in the town of Alturas which had limited services and even more limited being a Sunday. The towing company we used in Alturas called Susanville and arranged for a car and repairs. They opened their shop on Sunday, got us a car and we were able to get on our way to Lake Tahoe. My expectation is I will be gouged but surprised by the honesty and integrity, you don't find that often anymore. The previous mechanoic in Alturas and this one believe it was a fuel pump problem, when they replaced it, the problem did not go away and then discovered it was a different part. They replaced the latter and agreed not to charge any labor on the second part due to their error and in fact reduced my daily fee for the rental car.
