Everyone was accommodating in the early afternoon when we came here. Not many patrons so service was really good (could be all of time) we had 2 beers, one Kolsche and one stout. The stout was really tasty but personally, I did not enjoy the Kolsche. To me it had no flavor or not one that I am used to with a Kolsche anyway. Overall, I'd be willing to go back and try out another couple of beers just didn't have time on this outing.

I stopped in for a quick beer at Black Hoof Brewing while visiting Leesburg for the day. The beer was good, the service was a bit off. I asked what "Black Hoof" referred to and the beertender looked at me like I was growing deer antlers. "The owner likes to hunt deer. It refers to deer hooves." Okay, thanks for the explanation. Anyhow, cool place, good beer (I had an IPA) with tables out back and a few tall table to stand out front while keeping on eye on the main street in Leesburg. Fortunately, I struck up a friendly conversation with a local out front and that made my visit quite nice. Overall, a cool place. 4 stars

Drinks (4/5): We got the Poison Arrow Gose (3/5) and the Island Pond Hefeweizen (5/5). The hefeweizen had a nice citrus flavor. The gose had a very light flavor. *This place is dog friendly and allows you to bring them inside! So many furbabies!* I'd come again for the hefeweizen.

Still a fave. But kinda pricey during these hard times. Service still friendly and efficient. Same Bavarian ambiance as always

Super cool interior design. Good place to hang out. Didn't love their lighter beers. It just had no flavor or carbonation as much as other breweries. Service was excellent. Definitely try the beer first, ask for a sample.

Out of all the breweries in Leesburg this was my favorite. The inside has adequate seating and the beer selection is broad. Wheat to Double IPA is on tape here. The bartender was also very accommodating. I'll be sure to be back to this one.

Quiet when we walked in, but it got rowdy quickly. Teachers last day of school, and apparently they were out to celebrate! Have to say they earned it. Could not do that job. Anyway, the beer was good. We also had a pretzel, which is the only food they serve. However, you can bring in food.

Black Hoof Brewing is located in downtown, Old Town Leesburg, VA. We visited one rainy Sunday afternoon. We parked in the public parking garage behind the craft brewery (parking is free on weekends). The Green Bay Packers vs. Washington Redskins game was on on the flat panel HD TV's throughout the brewery - and there were a lot of fans for both teams present watching the game - clad in their respective NFL team jerseys! My friend did one tasting flight and then had to leave - I stayed and tasted all the beers on hand over multiple flights: Doe-Eyed Blonde Ale (3.5 stars on Untappd) Poacher's Pilsner (2.75 stars on Untappd) Reh of Sunshine Helles (2.5 stars on Untappd) Island Pond Hefeweizen (1.75 stars on Untappd) Crossbow Kolsch (3 stars on Untappd) Opa's Festbier (3.25 stars on Untappd) Falcon's Prey IPA (3 stars on Untappd) Poison Arrow Gose (3 stars on Untappd) I feel like Black Hoof Brewing embraces a very "Germanic" approach stylistically to brewing - which from a flavor profile perspective - I do not enjoy as much as I do other approaches and styles. But clearly a lot of folks like this style based on the reviews and how many people were in here enjoying their beers. Nice ambiance and the staff were very friendly! #BlackHoofBrewing

One of two good local brewpubs in Leesburg with the word 'Black' in the name, because confusion is good I suppose. Scene: July Saturday afternoon. Some customers but still plenty of available seating. Half a dozen beers on tap, we get a flight of four: the radler, the marzen , the dunkel and the Hefeweizen. All four were solid, good beers. Bathrooms were clean. Service was helpful and professional. Totally worthwhile experience.

This is one of my most favorite breweries. They do German style beers, all are delicious and they do some experimental stuff, but not much. You don't have much food to choose from but this is a brewery after all. Yet, still, their pretzels are delicious. And I am really serious about pretzels. I am just a little bummed that I can't have ALL the beer whenever we stop here because we have to drive. I need to come here again.

I have been to this brewery multiple times. I tend to like their lighter beers. I know they have a lot of darks so if you're into that check this place out. They have a small food menu but I have never tried. This past time I tried their light beer which they added lemonade too and it was very tasty. One of many breweries in Leesburg that I usually stop at when brewery hopping.

"Germany meets Loudoun" is the best way to describe this place. I visited on the Saturday of their soft opening and was very impressed. They had a lineup of 7 beers and I tried all of them - I couldn't stop! The location is in downtown Leesburg, so it's easy to find. It feels more like a small bar than a brewery, but don't be deceived; these beers are equal or superior to its brewery neighbors. Bill the owner was working the bar, and he was happy to chat. Bill explained how he traveled thru Germany and found the beers in the small towns were the most interesting brews of all, so he modeled this place off of them. The lineup shows it! Even the hops are brought in from Germany. Hefeweizen: Very good, and my favorite of the bunch. Cloudy, soft - the perfect expression of a Hefe, and possibly my favorite in the state. This alone helped push my rating to 5 stars. Helles: Another winner. Wheat-y, light. Second most favorite. Porter: Not heavy, but nice malty notes. Liked it. Blonde: It's hard to go wrong with a blonde ale, but I think this was above average. Marzen: I never see this Oktoberfest themed beer in local breweries, so don't have much to compare it with. I liked but didn't love this style. Maibock: Some hops but not heavily hopped. Again, liked but didn't love it. IPA: I'm not an IPA fan but others loved it. Lighter bodied than other IPAs but still bitter.

I agree with Matthew that the feel is more of a bar than a brewery-and while there is nothing wrong with that what so ever, they could certainly use some help in the acoustic department. I often times couldn't hear my husband or our friends to carry on a conversation sitting across the table from him/them. We didn't last more than about half an hour here since it was so hard to communicate with each other. The set up is simple, there is a large bar towards the back, there is a chalk board on the wall indicating what's what, and there is lots of seating, kind of in clusters, so it's easy to accommodate either small or large parties. While I was there this past weekend, there were folks coming off the bike trail, folks coming in to grab a quick drink pre(?) wedding, and families with kids just hanging out. Everyone seemed happy, and I can certainly understand why, the folks that work there are quite lovely and their beer is quite tasty. I was DD, so I nursed a yummy Oatmeal Stout. My husband got a couple of samples and shared with me though, so I did try several others. My second favorite was the Hefeweizen, it's a solid choice. With such a wonderful location, great staff, and solid beers I think Black Hoof Brewing will do great!

I've been going to breweries in Northern Virginia for over 14 years now and have seen a ton come and go. From Ocelot, to Old Ox, from Adroit Theory to Aslin, Solace, Honor, Route 7, Wheatland Springs, Dominion, Caboose, Crooked Run, Bluemont, Dirt Farm and probably some more. Bottom line - Lark is your average family get together venue, it rivals with Vanish, Dirt Farm and Bear Chase. Tons of room for the fam to run around and play, however - very limited parking space for the amount of seating areas. The service was okay, as someone who has served Beer and Wine for almost 3 years, I totally understand. However the staff was pretty hard to work with. They would stand behind the counter, they don't make eye contact and they don't ask who's next or really know how to engage the customer. They don't seem to be interested in their own beer. At one point there were 7 employees behind the counter while there were 3 -5 people in line. They should have teamed up and taken care of all 3 - 5 people at once. Pro tip: one person can serve multiple people, you don't need 7 people behind the bar. Get them working, you have waaaaay too many employees and barely any of them know what IBU means. For the beer, if you're a person who uses Untappd, I gave the brewery a 3/5. The beers were okay and probably need a lot more time for research. Why is a pilsner extra hoppy? But if you're really looking for a great venue with amazing service and amazing beer? Annnnnd family time? Hit up Wheatland Springs and you will not be disappointed Save yourself some time and money and just go to Ocelot for good beer and for beer and the family go to Wheatland Springs Lark is fairly new to the game but they're pulling the venue vibe card.
