The wine vending machine was so offputting. It felt so transactional.

I have been coming to Lake Austin spa for the last 12 years. Have probably been 10 times. I just spent a weekend there in March 2026 with my husband and can confidently say that this place has completely lost its boutique luster and has sold its soul to corporate America. It truly felt like a Marriott at best. The worst part is that the price doesn't reflect the downgrade in this resort. The resort is still riding on the coattails of what it once was. What we enjoyed during our stay: - The class instructors are great, and the classes remain a highlight of the stay. Dave and Donna are our favorite instructors. Becky too but we didn't see her this time. - The water activities are great and the water staff are very accommodating and nice! - We had great spa treatments Where it fell short: - The renovations have stripped much of the resort's former charm. The spaces now feel commercial and impersonal. An example of this commercial/impersonal feel is the transactional wine vending machine in the main living room. - The dining room, once cozy with warm lighting, now resembles a nursing home cafeteria. - Beautiful, home-like furniture has been replaced with generic Westin-style pieces. - Harsh LED sconces and bright LED bulbs in the room diminished the tranquil atmosphere. We often had to keep the lights off to avoid being blinded. - Food is acceptable in taste and very hit-or-miss. - Breakfast used to be a huge highlight of the trip with a large selection of made-to-order items. Now, the made-to-order menu has been slashed in half. A buffet of premade soggy parfaits and some bland pastries sits out. - The spa relaxation room is still beautiful, but they don't even have proper snacks and threw a couple of mints in a bowl. - The property garden is completely baron now and no longer in use at all. There used to be a sprawling garden with herbs and flowers that would even be used by the chef in the meals. - Housekeeping comes once a day and just replaces towels and barely makes the bed. I heard other guest groups chatting about the lack of housekeeping. I'm attaching a few photos of my own, as well as reposting some before and after photos that someone else posted with their review recently.

My happy place, it's a robe and relaxation paradise! Love everything about it, the oil and hot tub outside is great to relax and read, has great service there. I do the hydro circuit and had it all to myself m. I would come again for q massage. I love the buffet lunch too, really helps you stay longer and focus on being present and relaxing. Can't wait to come again

I came here for a work conference. Lovely location. Great classes, instructors, & service. Amazing pools - the one in the barn in the spa is heated which was a nice option this time of year. I was here midweek in November, and for several classes I was the only attendee. I expected much better food for how much they charge here. The catered food was just ok, the drinks pretty good, the breakfast decent. The best food were the breakfast entrees.

This caused my booking to be cancelled and I had to rebook and reverify. VERY inconvenient but everything got worked out. When you pay $900+ per night you don't want to be inconvenienced while trying to book. The Reserve is a nice community, but like all managed "premier planned" suburban areas they are very Nazi-ish with rules and enforcement. Again, when you're paying over $900 per night it's very off-putting and insulting to constantly be reminded of the rules. They treat you like you're a college kid trying to sneak and throw a frat party while you're parents are away for the weekend. Our rental even had cameras on the house that were actively being monitored (details below). VALUE: I don't normally complain about price so I won't do it here. Let's just say that this place is expensive. I voluntarily paid the money but it's a high price. HOUSE: Nice place, very clean. Premium decor - Texas modern rustic. Complimentary prosecco in the fridge upon arrival was a nice touch. Bring your own food/drinks/condiments (salt, pepper, etc.)/ice. All utensils for just about any kind of cooking and everything needed to have nice dinner parties were there. We had an issue with POOL: I did a cabana rental for 2 days at $50 per day. Rentals include a complimentary pitcher of beer or margarita per day. Pool was nice and in good shape. Lazy river, kids pool and infinity pool as well as swim up bar and snack bar are all part of the pool. You aren't allowed to bring any alcoholic beverages, food, or coolers into the pool area. They did allow us to bring an individual cup or water bottle. They will search your bags for food/alchohol/etc. if you bring large bags. LOCATION: Be prepared to drive 40 minutes to anywhere. There's enough restaurants, entertainment, etc. 45 minutes away. All-in-all this was a good place to stay. The main reason this is not a 5-Star review is because I was contacted by TurnKey with a threatening call because the management/owner were watching us on the Arlo/Netgear camera (Nazi-ish) on the back patio (there's a camera on the front porch and back patio) and thought that one of my guests was on the back patio smoking. None of us are smokers and it was insulting for them to accuse us of smoking (I'll say it again for emphasis... when you're paying over $900 per night).

My cousin and his family have a membership here and they invited us to come out for the day. When you are driving out there it feels like it is kind of in the middle of nowhere and then all of a sudden this paradise appears. We spent time at the marina. This was the nicest marina I have seen in the Austin area for sure! I could tell everything is taken care of with the utmost care possible. The marina is treated somehow as well so that the cobwebs and spiders don't take over your boat and slip area, which is super nice and convenient. There is also room for outdoor kitchens and patio furniture at the front of each slip. People have grills and stuff out there too. I gathered that it is a thing to just hang out at your slip area and cook out with your friends and family and you may or may not even take the boat out. After we took the boat out and came back in we road the golf cart up to the lazy river. This is where it really started to feel like a resort for me. They have a decent sized lazy river that is so much fun! There is a swim up bar on one side and the bar opens to the deck area on the other side. There are plenty of tables to sit at and chase lounge chairs in the sun and shaded for total comfort and relaxing. I had a few perfectly made margaritas from the bar and had a wonderful time hanging out with my family and floating the lazy river! The Reserve property is actually pretty huge! They also have cabins you can rent out, tennis courts and a park area. There is lots of places to hike around as well. This would be the perfect family get away spot and it is not too far from other cool outdoor things like Krause Springs, Hamilton Pool Park and of course Lake Travis!

An unforgettable experience, but definitely room for improvement given the price tag…read more Miraval austin is one of those aspirational properties that everyone looks forward to. As one of Hyatts flagship properties you would only expect the best there. Wish I could say I got the best, but it was mostly good. The problem is with the activity bookings. Every individual person has to book their own activities and there's no description vs. The detailed calendar on Miraval. Also, the site defaults to the first day after every activity booking. And lastly, most of the activities are taken that a person would be interested in. I got a few calls from an experience coordinator to help but they're always during working hours where someone is... most likely working and they aren't available after hours. For a property north of 1.5k a night, not being able to accommodate guest requests for a core concept is not acceptable. Other than that, everything was mostly fine. The property itself is not far from Austin but definitely feels isolated. Check-in process was mostly seamless, no upgrade given Globalist which is a bummer or even mention of looking for one. Check in later in the day around 6PM and there's no tea at Check in (gone for the day!?). However, the quick property tour and lift to dinner was nice. Food was definitely close to 4 to 5 stars. Order as much as you want. The bread was amazing. View even more so if you sit outside. A lot of things are grown from their local farm, definitely have a balance of vegetables and proteins. Everything was delicious and fresh, had amazing wild boar chops the first night and got a full 2nd order. Also got a great whitefish. Menu changes every night up to 4 nights, so the pork belly, duck confit, and shrimp and grits were highlights. Breakfast had amazing yogurt and fruits. Lunch was meh, burger was lacking, but the steak tacos were great. The room itself is not full luxury but very comfortable. Water filter, the largest selection of tea and cold coffee, water heater. Perfect to sit while being on the balcony. The bathroom is also decent size with great water pressure. Bath products fairly luxurious. The activities were decent, good instructors and energy. Most of them are intimate enough. Wish they were a bit more active to burn off the calories from the food.

I started my trip off by spending a few days in Austin staying near South Congress (highly recommend). Then wrapped up my trip with a three night stay at Miraval. The bed was honestly too soft for me. Yes it feels heavenly but I need a firm mattress for a good nights sleep. I really liked riding a horse while I was there. I was nervous about it but it was in a nice controlled environment with one other person. I felt very safe. The instructor was awesome! The food was great! I love the focus on being present and not using a digital device. I didn't use my phone or watch TV my entire stay. When I left I felt so at peace! The pool areas are beautiful! I enjoyed both guided hikes and would recommend. I also liked the educational nutrition classes and fitness classes. My favorite classes were line dancing and Tex Mex yoga. They should offer that more than just once during the week! Next time I come I would like to do the labyrinth, floating meditation, a cooking class, and kayaking.
