This is Louas and Floyd. Would you make these little guys suffer?

I would still give it a one star review. I guess someone from his office posted a review that I did 8 years ago when his father was in practice in a different location. Just shows how low and shady their office practice is now.

    Final goodbye =(
    Sofia P.

My parents took our cat here for a walk in emergency recently and they took her in. She wasn't breathing normally, she wasn't eating, she wasn't drinking any water. She couldn't use the litter box and could barely move. She's 15 years old and we knew this day would come counting down to the last second. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were helpful and we knew which hard decision we had to make.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sadly, there was nothing that can be done and stop her from suffering but to say our final goodbye. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They were kind and supportive throughout the process.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Rest in peace sweet girl.

Family of ducks rescued by the staff at Lake Balboa Veterinary Care!

I've been taking my dog and cat here for a year now. While other vets are being bought by venture capitalists (which leads to higher prices and lower quality care), Lake Balboa Veterinary Care is still privately owned, and the prices are lower than other vets in the area. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Yes, they require a deposit to book an appointment, but that helps them avoid wasting time on missed appointments.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff and doctors are all incredibly warm and friendly, and it's clear that they all love animals.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I live close to the office, and a few days ago, my husband spotted a mother duck and her ducklings walking on our street--several miles from the nearest lake. My husband ran to Lake Balboa Veterinary Care and told them about the ducks. The staff took action immediately, running outside with a net and a cage. They rescued the duck family and relocated them to an appropriate habitat. Not only is this a wonderful place to take your pets, they are heroes to wildlife!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Dr. Moon has cared for my pups for years.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He and his staff truly love your animals like their own. I can't Thank him enough for always taking good care of our pups. We love Lake Balboa Vet Care!

My baby Soleil was so lucky to be under Dr. Moon's care since we became neighbors. The professionalism, genuine care and unparalleled compassion we received from Dr. Moon, Ms. Karen and everyone we had encountered kept us coming back even after we moved 60 miles away. I called last-minute and Ms. Karen went above and beyond to squeeze us in the earliest available spot. Unfortunate, my baby boy couldn't wait and left me as I was on the phone with her. As heartbroken as I am, I want to express my most sincere gratitude. Soleil was 12 1/2 and hardly had any illness or discomfort. He left quietly and peacefully as though he was just asleep. You all are the best. I will always be in debt to you. Love from Soleil and his daddy 11.12.2024

How much for spaying 3y/o 6lbs?

    Is this location still open?

    Yes

Does Dr Moon perform dental work?

    Yes

Do they take walk-ins? I have an outside cat but I'm not sure when I can catch her so it's hard to make an appointment.

Not anymore. Not during COVID. You have to make an appointment but only a week out, not too far in advance. They get booked fast!

Do you guys accept pet insurance? I have the healthy paws insurance for my puppy

They will fill out a claim for you if you bring one but you need to pay up front and then your insurance will reimburse you. They do not accept pet insurance directly.

How much do they charge to spay/neuter a dog?

in 2010, it cost me $60 for my cat. You may want to call to confirm.

Does Dr. Moon's office sell Nexguard?

    Yes

How much is the low cost cat spaying?

Is there a different number? I have been calling for days now and it is always busy?

They only answer the phone between 8am and 9am and then after 2pm. I got a busy when I called between 9am and 2pm - which is when they do surgeries.

I've been bringing my 19-year-old pup here for the last 6 years, and I honestly can't imagine trusting anyone else. Having a senior dog comes with its fair share of challenges, but every time we walk through those doors, Dr. Oh gives me peace of mind. Somehow I always leave thinking, "Okay...my old man is going to be okay." My pup has struggled with seizures for the last three years, and instead of immediately pushing expensive treatments, Dr. Oh recommended natural supplements that have made a huge difference. We went from about two seizures a week to only every several months! Now that my sweet old guy is dealing with doggy dementia, Dr. Oh has continued to be amazing--recommending affordable supplements, giving practical tips to keep him safe at home, and helping me make the best decisions for his quality of life. One thing I appreciate the most? No nickel-and-diming. I never feel pressured into unnecessary tests or treatments. If something isn't needed, he'll tell you. That kind of honesty is hard to find these days, and it means everything when you're caring for a senior pet. The clinic is always clean, and the staff is kind, patient, and genuinely attentive. They make every visit as stress-free as possible. Located on Sherman Way & Van Nuys Blvd, inside the shopping center with Pablo's, Dunkin', and Otto Sushi, with a large parking lot so finding a space is easy. Thank you, Dr. Oh and the entire Van Nuys Pet Clinic team, for helping my old guy enjoy his golden years. You have cared for him like family, and I'll always be grateful.

The girls at the front desk went above and beyond by squeezing my little guy in at the very end of the day on one of their busiest days before the Fourth of July holiday. I know they were extremely busy, but they still made time for us, and I'm so grateful. My little pup decided to do some "parkour" off the furniture after the midweek fireworks scared him, and he suddenly became completely non-weight-bearing on his back leg.Dr. Oh was absolutely amazing. He wasted no time getting X-rays, quickly diagnosed a hairline fracture, and thoroughly explained everything to me. Thankfully, surgery wasn't necessary, and we have a treatment plan to help him heal. Every single person we encountered showed genuine care, kindness, and compassion not just for my dog, but for me as a worried pet parent. The clinic itself is adorable too! I loved all the cute pet photos decorating the office and wish I had taken more pictures because it has such a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you, Dr. Oh and the entire Van Nuys Vet Clinic team, for taking such great care of my little guy. We truly appreciate everything you did and couldn't have asked for a better experience during such a stressful day.

If you are a resident of Sherman Oaks and are a critical thinker, think twice about this local veterinarian. It came highly recommended by a neighbor. I had high hopes and wanted to support this female centric place, however, as a dog mom I would never recommend it due to poor communication, lack of accountability and customer service and a defensive/ hostile stance when questioned. I went back for a recheck of my dog's allergies and skin growths. Note that there are two problems I was seen for initially and the follow up was to include both. This was not the case. I had to remind Dr. Cortez to remeasure my dog's growths. Not all of the growths were measured and there were no recommendations communicated for care. She was focused on his allergies, which had not resolved. I received VERBAL directions for 4 DIFFERENT TASKS and was told she would email me. In the days that followed I called the office and asked for my summary and instructions. I' was told they would be emailed. This happened three times. Nothing was emailed. I was not informed that Dr. Cortez was sick until I was also being instructed not to come back in the email shown below. It's sad that Southpaw won't take any accountability for the excessive wait, poor communication and lacking customer service. I think customer service is a thing of the past, but it's a quality that's important to me. There was no apology or anything that even approached an apology. If you value the ability to ask questions and discuss issues about your fur baby as they arise then this is not your veterinarian either.

When I got there, vet techs were waiting for me. Some of them took her back, and one took my story on what happened, and her symptoms. I had to call Pet Poison Line so they could tell the vets how to treat her-that's fine-and they wanted to do a full workup on her since she is 12. I said that's fine, that's what insurance is for. It was about 11pm when I was sent home to rest while they took care of her. At about two, they called me to tell me that she survived the nightshade poisoning, but they had found a thicker spot in her intestines in the x-ray, and they wanted to do follow-up images in the morning, so I got another estimate for them to keep her til the next day and run another round of x-rays and do an ultrasound. She stayed and I went back to sleep. In the morning, a very kind vet whose name I don't remember called me and went over what is happening and why that spot could be there. She gave me advice on how to proceed after today. She asked what food my cat eats so they could give it to her there too. I was kept in the loop the whole time from when I got there to when I picked her up at 4:30pm. It set me back about $3500. Thank God for pet insurance. But considering all they did and the overnight stay, not terrible. My cat's idiocy may have saved her bacon if we caught something early, but so did True Care's thoroughness.

The last thing you want when your fur baby is suffering is to reach voicemail after voicemail. Hearing a compassionate human voice on the other end of the phone brought me so much comfort. She came to my home first thing the next morning. I was worried about my younger Golden Retriever jumping on her or interfering with her care, but she was absolutely wonderful with both of my dogs. She encouraged him to stay in the room with us once he was comfortable with her, and I truly believe that helped him understand what was happening. She was incredibly professional, but I'll never forget one small moment. Out of the corner of my eye, while I was saying my final words and paying my last tributes to my girl, I saw her quietly wiping tears from her eyes. As a healthcare provider myself, I know how often we're expected to wear a mask and stay composed. Seeing that genuine emotion didn't make her seem less professional, it reassured me that she truly cared. In those final moments, your mind races. You question whether you're making the right decision. Seeing her emotion gave me peace because I knew she wasn't simply going through the motions. I knew that if she believed my girl wasn't ready, she would have told me. Most of us are fortunate enough to experience this kind of heartbreak only a few times in our lives. She carries families through it over and over again. That takes an incredible amount of compassion. Thank you for your kindness, your empathy, and for helping my sweet Lilo leave this world peacefully and with dignity. Please take care of yourself, too. The first photo is the day Oliver met Lilo as a puppy, their first photo together. The second was taken just before the veterinarian arrived to help Lilo pass. This is not my first review of our beloved Dr G, and I just recommended her to 6 more people again just these past 2 weeks. I always say to people I give her card to: "you will discover she is an Earth Angel - if she moved to a different town, I'd take my pup there... When you find a great vet, they are Gold! She's not only compassionate, present and knowledgeable, but also she does not oversell." Besides all the regular check ups, Dr G. has performed 2 substantial surgeries on my pup in the last 8 years, and has been extremely kind, providing valuable reassuring step-by-step updates throughout, especially aware that I had lost my beloved first dog, (with a different vet), when he did not make it through the anesthesia... In the 8 years Dr G. has been our one and only vet; everyone I have sent to Dr G. has fallen in love with her, and has thanked me for the referral. I trusted Dr G and her small compassionate team with the euthanasia of my precious second dog, Handsome. She is truly an Angel on Earth. At her Chatsworth location, I love that she's created a lovingly cozy "home environment" for the euthanasia experience. That it so needed during that deeply emotional time, and more veterinary offices ought to follow her example. I found her many years ago when I was dissatisfied with a busy veterinary front desk in Sherman Oaks, after they had made errors in my first dog's chart. Unfortunately he passed, and I learned that finding the RIGHT professional truly makes ALL the difference. So yes, I drive from Sherman Oaks. Gratefully so :) I am thankful that my cherished pups are her patients. Her ethics, her care, her kindness, her knowledge, her integrity - she's our number 1!!!

I asked straightforward, basic questions regarding the estimated cost of a standard wheelchair/cart fitting so I could plan financially. I was told they couldn't give me any ballpark figures until I paid a mandatory $350 upfront exam fee. Furthermore, when I pushed for basic structural transparency, the staff member became defensive, took my questions personally, and refused to speak with me further, stating "someone else" would have to call me back. It is incredibly discouraging to be met with robotic gatekeeping when you are looking for an empathetic medical team to help your ailing animal. But now, 5 years later, we have officially left SOVG. Our 9 year old dog, Lucy, was not eating. She was lethargic, vomiting, and not pooping. We figured she had an obstruction- that she had eaten something and it was blocking her intestine. (This happened to my first dog years ago, so I was familiar with the symptoms.) We took Lucy to SOVG on a Tuesday. I was at work, but my partner explained to Dr Dumas that we thought it was an obstruction. He wanted to give her an x-ray. They couldn't see anything on the x-ray for some reason, so my partner was given two options- take her home and monitor her, or leave her there all day so they could try to flush her out with fluids and get an accurate x-ray. We obviously didn't want to just take her home and heal her with positive thoughts, so my partner agreed to leave her there to get a diagnosis. Hours later, they called my partner and said that they still could not see anything on the x-ray, even after giving her fluids all day and giving her SIX x-rays. They had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her, and their only suggestion was to take her to their partner emergency vet in Pasadena to get an ultrasound. But because they had kept her at SOVG for so long, it would be considered "after hours," so would be significantly more expensive. Mind you, this is at 3:00 in the afternoon. Because we love our dog, my partner rushed her to Pasadena. He checked the bill SOVG handed him before he left and they had charged us $1500 to keep our dog all day, putting her through various torturous medical procedures with no sedation including shoving a tube down her nose to drain fluid from her abdomen and giving her those 6 x-rays. In Pasadena, the vet said that Lucy was severely dehydrated (after spending the entire day at SOVG "getting fluids") and they had to hydrate her. The gave her the after-hours ultrasound and lo and behold, she had an obstruction. She needed immediate surgery, which would be $10,000 because it was "after hours" at 3:30pm on a Tuesday. Again, because we love our dog, we immediately applied for a Care Credit card and approved the surgery. She ended up staying in the hospital for another day because her blood pressure was low after surgery (add another $1000). Once she was safely at home and my partner and I were able to relax and think about what had just happened, we were furious. SOVG held our dog for 6 hours, keeping her in a high anxiety situation with nothing to calm her, torturing her with tests and tubes and IVs, only to have absolutely no clue what could be wrong with her. Then, only when it was "after hours," they told us that basically if we wanted to help her, we had to go to their partner across the valley and spend $11,000. They took advantage of an extremely scary situation. They acted like they simply could not find out what was wrong with her, and waited so they could get the absolute maximum profit from us for themselves and their Pasadena partners. They put our dog through hell and charged us $1500. When we called to complain, we were told that the doctor "did everything right" and they would offer us no real apology, compensation, or refund. I have been going to SOVG for 15 years. 4 dogs, multiple surgeries, illnesses, and scary moments. Our beloved dog with diabetes passed away at their facility in February. We have been loyal to this organization because we wanted to believe that they cared. But after this horrible incident, we will never step foot in this facility again. Money, money, money. That's all they want, and they will try to get it by putting you and your beloved pet through hell until you're desperate enough to say yes to anything.

My first experience…read morehere for my dog's non-anesthesia teeth cleaning was wonderful - he was in and out in 40 minutes. When I brought him back around a year later it was the exact opposite. I met with a male vet who was borderline condescending and explained how my dog needed 12(!) extractions when just a year before his teeth were perfect. I felt something was very off and replied that if his condition was that drastic, I would take my dog to his normal vet for the procedure. Then, oddly, the vet mentioned, almost in passing, how Green Dog makes their money off of tooth extractions. That's when all my alarms went off. After taking my dog to his normal vet for the dental under anesthesia, he ended up only needing ONE extraction!! Everything else was fine. I was so glad I went with my gut and got a second opinion. I hate to say I'll never be able to trust this location in the future.

Both experiences have been amazing for both myself and my dog. They are honest and transparent with pricing and treatment recommendations which I appreciate. The ladies at the front are super friendly and welcoming. They are punctual with letting you know either treatment updates or pickup times. I am happy to have found them and glad they are so close to where I live!
