I took my dog here for almost nine years, and never had a negative experience. Everyone was always good to me and more importantly, my dog. The prices were always fair-- almost cheap, honestly. Everyone we ever dealt with has been wonderful. They've tried to always accommodate my dog when we needed an unexpected last-minute appointment-- which was kind of a lot because she had a few health issues over the years. They were always so nice and loved on her even though she was a bit of a bad girl. When we had to put my dog down very unexpectedly, they tried very hard to save her. But also, they were honest about no heroics. I mean, they really could've gotten a lot of money out of me to save her, but Dr Moon was honest that it was time to let her go. Over the last nine years, they were all just so good and sweet to her. To be honest, even driving by there, I kind of want to cry even though it's been a few months. But I will always be appreciative to everyone there for being so good to my dog. read more

My parents took our cat here for a walk in emergency recently and they took her in. She wasn't breathing normally, she wasn't eating, she wasn't drinking any water. She couldn't use the litter box and could barely move. She's 15 years old and we knew this day would come counting down to the last second. They were helpful and we knew which hard decision we had to make. Sadly, there was nothing that can be done and stop her from suffering but to say our final goodbye. I've been taking my dog and cat here for a year now. While other vets are being bought by venture capitalists (which leads to higher prices and lower quality care), Lake Balboa Veterinary Care is still privately owned, and the prices are lower than other vets in the area. Yes, they require a deposit to book an appointment, but that helps them avoid wasting time on missed appointments. The staff and doctors are all incredibly warm and friendly, and it's clear that they all love animals. I live close to the office, and a few days ago, my husband spotted a mother duck and her ducklings walking on our street--several miles from the nearest lake. My husband ran to Lake Balboa Veterinary Care and told them about the ducks. The staff took action immediately, running outside with a net and a cage. When it comes to health, you should always take your loved ones to a place of healing and not one that's blinded by greed. No matter how sick your pet is this place will deny you an appointment unless you pay them an upfront $75 fee. which is absolutely ridiculous because in times of emergencies when making these type of phone calls, there are times where you do not have your card at hand and are unable to do it. You would think as an alternative they would allow you to pay the fee upon entering the establishment, but they do not! and they are very adamant about collecting their petty $75 before caring for your loved ones. I already had brought one of my dogs here and paid for my appointment with a credit card but the second time I wanted to come with my other dog was an emergency and I did not have my wallet on me so it was very disrespectful how the front desk was not allowing me to lock in my appointment before collecting money from me. My dogs are only 2 years old and they will most likely live up to at least 10 to 15 years. So instead of having me as a decade long patient, they chose to lose me over their petty $75 dollars. read more

Dr. R'Bibo is the best veterinarian my wife and I have ever taken our cat to, and as long as she practices, she is who we will go to. We have two cats who are, unfortunately, afflicted with all manner of allergies and issues, so naturally we've been to vets all over the valley. Dr. R'Bibo is the first vet we've ever been to who actively and patiently listened to us explain our observations, communicated everything clearly and thoughtfully (without condescension -- which pet parents know is almost always a thing that inevitably occurs) and maybe most surprising... going the extra mile the comfort of our kitty cat. She saw that our cat was terrified and shivering, so she went and got a huge warm blanket for our kitty to crawl inside and hide in. She even did the exam without forcing our cat out of the blanket. It made a world of difference for the experience. She puts your animal, their health, their safety and their comfort first, while also listening respectfully and communicating clearly and kindly. Dr. Moon (Sr and Jr) were the only pets Pepper ever knew. She lived to 14 1/2 and her longevity is a testament to the care she received at Lake Balboa. If we ever get another dog, we'll return. The practice are incredibly gracious when it comes to your pet. Pepper's last breath was with Dr. Moon and he offered such compassion as we grieved. Will forever be grateful. read more

"It was our first time here and we had an incredible experience. My Boxer is a senior, 12 going on 13, and he had a bee sting that made his foot swell up really big. Our regular vet was closed and we were spiraling with worry. Thankfully, they were able to get us in as quick as they could. Everybody was super kind, friendly, and took their time with him. They made a huge effort to make us feel comfortable and took great care of Rocky as a senior. The doctor went above and beyond and she was so kind and great. For $112 to get an appointment, medication, and medication to go home with, I'm flabbergasted. I unfortunately had to put my cat down last year at this clinic. The doctor and staff were so kind and compassionate throughout the entire appointment. They allowed me to spend time with him and even let me call a family member so we could say our goodbyes. They carefully explained the process and were incredibly patient the whole time. I have been taking the dogs there since 2015. Back then the dear doctor Moon was so kind and gentle. The price was right the staff was lovely- but some thing changed. They expanded - likely beyond their ability to serve with kindness and respect. I stopped by to pick up my dog prescription and the front desk gave me so much attitude- acting like I was putting g them and the doctor out! Suggesting that they would need to charge me an expedited fee to get the prescription today. When all I was doing was popping by my local vet to get the prescription. This along with the fact that they up charged me for dental procedure for my dogs. I found another vet that charges less than half their estimated price for TWO dogs! She took all my information, and only at the end told me Dr. Moon isn't accepting new patients and that another vet would see my dog. We recently got a Doberman puppy and need to get her wellness and 3rd round of shots done. The receptionist/front desk were extremely friendly and welcoming. The office was clean. We didn't have too long of a wait (and luckily they got me in on the same day). The vet techs were great and the vet was nice and informative on shots but also respectful when I had to decline/postpone shots due to our it nullifying our puppy contract for health. Dr. Moon and his team are the absolute best in the business. After some not so pleasant experiences with a DIFFERENT vet hospital, we decided to come to Lake Balboa Veterinary Care. From the minute you call, they pick up and are so friendly and helpful. The ladies in the front area are beyond sweet and so so helpful. They really seem to enjoy where they work. We have three French Bulldogs, Cosmo, Pablo and Bubbles, and couldn't be happier to have them in the care of Dr. Moon and Dr. Habib. Thank you Lake Balboa, you guys are the best! An update since my previous review was for their former location/vet. Since Dr. Moon Sr. retired during the pandemic, the office relocated and renamed, and was taken over by Dr. Moon Jr., who has since been joined by Dr. Habib I don't like that they're now further away from me, but the new offices offer expanded services that make caring for my dogs easier. Recently the newest addition to my four-legged family went in for some testing and came back with some very unexpected (and unusual) results. I cannot stress enough how compassionate and dedicated Dr. Moon has been in ensuring my dog gets properly diagnosed. Not only Dr. Moon, but the internist who provided the ultrasound that kicked off a bizarre chain of events, AND the pathologist at the lab where my dog's bloodwork was sent were doing research ON THEIR OWN TIME to figure things out. Thanks to their efforts we think we finally have a path to confirming the correct diagnosis, and should have my dog on the way to recovery soon. I cannot say enough nice things about this office! read more

Lake Balboa veterinary has a strict 48 hour cancellation policy. And while cancellation policies are completely standard, this veterinary office has one unexplainable flaw. They are not open on Sundays or Mondays, and there is no voicemail to leave a message, and no email address listed on their website or anywhere else to email them. When I called them and gave the example of "what if my appointment is for Tuesday afternoon and I wake up sick Sunday morning. How do I get a hold someone to cancel within that time window?" The front desk staff just negate the question or says "you have to call Tuesday morning".... which is now going to be charged for the late cancel. The worst part of the whole situation is the complete disregard for logic or customer questions/concerns. read more

I have taken my boys here for over 8 years. I had two Japanese Chins who passed last year at 15 and I have a new puppy Chin who is now 7 months. . My boys started out with the father Dr. Moon who loved my boys and took wonderful and loving care of them until Covid hit. He retired and his son took over the business. He continued to be their vet and he compassionately helped me put them both down when old age got the best of them. He always speaks to my boys in a gentle manner and is knowledgeable about their issues. He also wont BS with you if he does't know and will suggest specialist when needed. I have a new puppy and I took him right back to Dr. Moon. One of the best things about their office is the staff. Karen is amazing and has been there since I started taking my boys there. The techs, the rest of the office staff make that place a very comfortable , chill place to bring your fur babies to. I live in Chatsworth and it is a bit of distance to go to them. I have tried other vets that are closer on a couple occasions and I always wind back up at Lake Balboa. They deal with me with kindness and I ain't no picnic‍ when I am worried about my babies. read more

I did a previous review where a what I consider rude employee called me regarding my doctors appointment - - my cat never charged a pre fee but when I went to get an appointment for my dog, they demanded a pre-fee so I asked how come why are you discriminating against me and my dog just escalated I was told to never come back. I wrote the review today. I was called and of course they back Natalie, who I consider extremely rude who called me stupid because I didn't understand her policy especially when the cat has been there in the last two weeks four times never for a prepayment and she told me not to ever come back I was banned. She didn't use the word band, but it was clear. She banned me. I was to never come back that means band today. Her associate called and we're not gonna treat the cat who is not my cat, but my daughter's cat so now Dr Moon who I loved and now find him disgusting and don't trust him or the staff with your animals because he's in the middle of treatment and they are now denying his treatment. I told them I'm the one you're mad with not my daughter and her cat. The cat should be continued to be treated and they said nope not gonna do it so do not ever go here bum affection I had for Dr Moon is gone with staff like this that would refuse to continue to treat a cat in the middle of treating said catis horrific. I will be contacting the governing party for veterinarians. Shame on you Dr Moon your staff they really need help. read more

I was lucky enough to meet Dr. Moon's father years ago when I had my cat examined. I knew I was in the presence of a most wonderful spirit with a truly compassionate assistant, Karin. As fortune would have it, his son opened Lake Balboa Veterinary Care just around the corner. They were joined by the incredible, Dr. Habib, whose love of cats is palpable. The whole team are the most caring, thoughtful as well as knowledgeable people I have ever encountered. They have helped me with my many cats over the years; a very old cat that belonged to my mother, dental work on another cat which made him so much happier, and recently help for a neighborhood cat with hyperthyroidism and another very special cat with Feline Leukemia who was the sweetest cat ever. Dr. Moon was so patient and compassionate with me. So was Karen. I had to have my dog euthanized due to several health issues, along with her age. I use to have my pets seen by Dr. Jay Moon who has since retired. He was wonderful. So glad I found where the younger Dr. Moon is located. Lots of parking as well. read more

We went to the original (father) Dr. Moon for 20 years before the son (new Dr. Moon) took over. The original Dr. Moon was the most humble, honest man and only did what was right and needed doing. His prices were reasonable and affordable. His staff was also amazing, especially Karen. So sad that his son took over and turned it into a maximizing profit churning machine and upselling as much as he can to get the most out of clientele. The new Dr. Moon is arrogant and thinks he knows it all, we continued going to him a few times after the transition but every time he was wrong in his diagnosis and even charged us for his mistake one time. The fees are outrageous there now. The son also has an entitled snobby attitude and was really rude to us the last time we went there. The original Dr. Moon was always super respectful and humbling. We switched vets and stopped going here about a year ago. read more

After ESCAPING my last vet, we tried Lake Balboa on a recommendation from a friend. The second I walked in the door, I could feel the difference in service and care. The doctor was running behind from a previous appointment and the staff offered their apologies repeatedly and kept me very well informed. Dr. Habib was wonderful (both as a doctor and a Yankees fan ). Their prices are highly competitive. I called the office to get a dental estimate for my dog and the staff actually followed up and sent it to me via email within 24 hours! A far cry from the service we got at our previous office and the estimate is far more reasonable. My senior pup is my baby and I feel that she's in excellent hands here. This whole crew is beyond amazing. From Dr. Moon, to his son to the support staff I cannot think them enough for not only making me feel comfortable but taking such great care of my Chihuahua Pedro. I honestly feel like I have more anxiety than he does when we go in for procedures but I would not trust anyone else with the well-being of my little boy. By the way, their rates are the absolute best and if I could afford it I would honestly pay a lot more because the service is just that good. Having them in our local community is such an asset and a blessing. I originally found them when they were in their prior location near the evil liquor store owner and I only came across them because two different people who did not know each other recommended Dr. Moon. I am now the one recommending him and I rarely do that. This review is a public way to say thank you, honestly. I wouldn't have been able to get Pedro's teeth cleaned and extracted and he would not be in such good health if Dr. Moon did not do what he did at the rates he does it. Is it still expensive, yes. Taking care of an animal though it's a commitment and I feel my dog Pedro is worth every penny and more.
