Apparently, Michelle is a very sensitive person who, instead of handling feedback professionally and focusing on customer satisfaction, chose to send me a termination-of-services email. They don't have twenty minutes to examine a cat with an eye infection, but they somehow have time to terminate clients. I'm honestly relieved my business with them is over - their attitude says everything about how little they care about their clients. I went to Sherman Oaks Veterinary Group instead, and within thirty minutes they saw my pet and took care of everything. While Southpaw seems more focused on replacing staff with Al and maintaining their attitude, real vets are still out there doing their jobs with care and professionalism. Don't waste your time with them - prioritize your pet's health!

We found a baby kitten and we honestly didn't know where to start. The vets at Southpaw were incredible from day one. They helped us nurse him back to health and guided us through every step so he could grow up strong and healthy. Nagato is now 5 months old and getting ready for his neuter, which feels amazing considering how tiny and fragile he was when we first brought him in. Both Nagato and his older brother, Itachi, have had the best experience with Southpaw Vets. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and truly cares about the animals they treat. We can't thank them enough for everything they've done for our cats. Highly recommend!

I can't say enough good things about this vet office! I have three dogs--including one very spicy Dutch Shepherd and a Frenchie who was surrendered to me due to aggression issues--and the entire team has been absolutely incredible with all of them. I was honestly nervous bringing my Frenchie in because of his biting history, but they've been nothing short of amazing with him. Their calm, confident handling has made such a difference--he hasn't had a single incident or lash-out with them. My Dutchie, who normally won't let anyone near her nails, is totally comfortable here too. They're the only ones she trusts for nail trims! They're always transparent about costs, fair with pricing, and fantastic with communication. Booking appointments or reaching out for help is always easy, and they're quick to respond when I need anything. They even offer "happy visits," where I can bring my dogs in just to get treats, pets, and positive interactions with the staff. It has made a HUGE impact on my dogs' comfort and trust. This team truly goes above and beyond to make every visit a good one--for both pets and owners. I'll be a loyal customer as long as they'll have us. Highly recommend!

Southpaw has taken great care of my little guy, Banjo. We followed Dr. Shim here from West Hollywood and I'm so glad we did. We've been coming here now for close to a year and let me tell you - I used to have to drag Banjo out of the car at our old vet - and here he happily walks in, tail wagging each time. Southpaw is all about pawsitive (sorry) reinforcement so there are always lots of treats for the pups. Each time he's had a wellness checkup or gotten a vaccine, he's on a table gobbling down a little something while they stick him in the patootie. He barely notices and then they give him a squeaky toy. A squeaky toy!! Also, I love that I can be in the room with him for these shots. It makes it so much easier on him. More recently, Banjo had to have some teeth removed... which meant he had to go under anesthesia (oh, my heart!) ... I was nervous - but I also knew he was in good hands with Dr. Shim. All of their staff and technicians were so lovely and happily (and patiently) answered all of my questions (even when I called them with extra questions after I'd dropped Banjo off!). They were very kind and put my heart and mind at ease. Banjo did great - and they really covered their bases post-procedure with an extraordinary level of personalization and care. The folder they gave me with Banjo's discharge papers had a little cartoon Banjo on it (playing the banjo of course...) and I couldn't believe how much it looked like him! Apparently they have a very talented artist who works there. It was just another layer of thoughtfulness that came through. I didn't realize until the next day that part of his paperwork also included a Certificate of Bravery. A CERTIFICATE OF BRAVERY! Banjo felt SO grateful to be acknowledged for his courage. :) Every person I've encountered at Southpaw has been really wonderful - the staff, the technicians and the doctors. We did see another doctor when Dr. Shim wasn't available one time and she was also great. I always feel like Banjo is in good hands here. I've recommended Southpaw to several friends and am grateful to have found such a wonderful, welcoming and trustworthy spot to take care of my fur baby. Thank you SP and Dr. Shim!

i'm honestly very disappointed to be writing this review because my experiences prior to the other day have actually been really positive, but after this visit i was left feeling totally heartbroken in how my rescue dog, tulip, was treated here. up until monday we had overall positive experiences at southpaw, until we came in for a routine vaccination appointment. tulip is extremely fearful of needles so they recommended we give her some trazadone for the visit. despite being high as a kite she was still very scared, the vet tech took no time at all to say hi to her or to make her feel comfortable. she was rushed, rude and condescending towards me. she had zero empathy for how my dog was feeling in that moment, to the point where it actually made me cry. after we were finished a very kind vet tech named andrew who we had met before came in and showed us both some kindness, giving my dog some treats and apologizing for not being able to be there himself, hence the three stars. honestly, i wasn't even going to write this review, however after the appointment i texted their service line asking if we could make a note to work with a different vet tech in the future as she wasn't a good fit for tulip to which i still have received no response. i'm still very undecided if i'll be back, it would ultimately depend on if i'm able to work with one of their techs that treats tulip with the basic human kindness that she deserves.

I visited Southpaw Vets about a week or so ago with my cat, and I can honestly say it was the best vet experience I've ever had. From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and clearly passionate about animals. The environment was clean, calm, and thoughtfully designed, perfect for anxious pets and their equally anxious humans like me lol. What stood out most was the level of care and attention the team gave not just to my cat, but to me as well. They took the time to answer all of my questions, explain everything in detail, and never once made me feel rushed. My cat, who's normally pretty shy and squirmy at vet appointments, actually seemed relaxed which was something I've never seen before. The veterinarian was gentle, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate. You can tell this is more than just a job to them. They even followed up afterward to check in the next day which meant a lot since I had questions after I leftttttt. Anyways. After having horrible vet encounters in the past, I left this place feeling relieved, reassured, and so grateful to have found a it. I'll be back.

    Email from the Vet

My partner and I were going to switch to Southpaw this past August since it was closer to home and has great reviews. We brought our cat, Owen, in for an annual exam and requested routine blood work. The office was clean and the staff were very friendly. They even wrote his name on their dry erase board in the exam room which we found very cute. We were planning on making Southpaw our primary vet until we received a long and worrisome email from Dr. Linda Shim. In the email (I included screenshots below), she outlined how Owen's blood test results suggested he had CKD which usually indicates 75% loss of kidney function, which is fatal. I was at work when I received this message and instantly burst into tears at the thought of our 5 year old, seemingly healthy and happy cat being given such a terrible diagnosis. He had (and still has) zero symptoms, no urinary issues, and eats a moisture rich diet. When I was able to give Dr. Shim a call back to schedule a second blood test, she said she was "hoping the test results were a fluke." The casual nature of her comment was confusing after having sent such a lengthy email basically giving our cat a death sentence. When we arrived for the follow up, Dr. Shim immediately expressed she was sorry "to be the bearer of bad news" that he had Stage 3 CKD before conducting any further diagnostics. When asked about life expectancy, she was unable to provide any clear answers and just told us to keep an eye out for when his hip bones start protruding due to muscle/weight loss. After a second blood test, his creatinine levels dropped and Dr. Shim now said he had Stage 2 CKD. Upon doing our own research into IRIS guidelines, we learned that it is not recommended to diagnose or stage CKD without testing their blood levels over a significant amount of time. Dr. Shim also did not recommend an ultrasound or any other diagnostics after the second blood test/ urine culture and concluded the diagnosis. When we expressed concerns with the rushed diagnosis, she then mentioned we could see a specialist to rule out a potential cancerous growth, which was never brought up as a possibility. We went back to our usual vet for additional blood work and an ultrasound. Long story (not so) short, Owen's kidney's are in healthy condition and he most definitely does not have 75% loss of kidney function. It is frustrating to know we could've avoided going through the five stages of grief altogether if we received the appropriate care at Southpaw. While I can only speak on my experience with Dr. Shim, I write this to urge others to seek a second opinion and do your own research if you find your experience parallels ours in any way. Always advocate for diligent and thorough care for your fur babies.

A huge 5 stars (and 4 paws) for Southpaw Vets!! It is SO important to have a good vet and Southpaw Vets have again and again exceeded all my expectations. About a year ago I had a not so pleasant experience at our last vet so I decided to find another one. Based on Yelp reviews, I went with Southpaw Vets. I am so happy we did! I have moved out of the area but still bring my Sparkle here because Southpaw is IT! The staff is just phenomenal. Dr Chiang is our primary and she is literally so sweet, calm, patient, knowledgable, and really cares about our fur babies. I also recently saw Dr Shim (who was also lovely) because I needed to get in urgently as Sparkle was sick. They got me in next day! The techs are also fab. So gentle with my bb girl and compassionate. The front desk staff are wonderful too! Friendly, very quick to pick up phones/answer texts, and relay any questions we have to the doctors. The office itself is so clean and modern. There's a parking lot in the back that always has spots available. Just go down the alley to find it. The entrance is also back there so super convenient. They also write your fur baby's name on the white board in the exam rooms - it's so cuuuute! I cannot explain how grateful I am to this business. My Sparkle is almost 19 years old and Southpaw is helping me to keep her as healthy as we can. Thank you Southpaw!

They truly love the animals who come in, my dog had got into his stitches after neutering and they took great care of him. They took a look at him without even charging me. You can't ask for better service than that. Also, very clean and modern. The two ladies at the front are always so kind.

I recently switched to Southpaw from my previous vet because they were very impersonal and didn't seem to prioritize the pet. After doing extensive online research, I stumbled upon Southpaw and booked my first appointment online (already something I like as my other vet didn't offer this) very quick and easily. A couple days before the appointment, they personally texted me to remind me of the appointment and ask details about my pet, so they can ensure a personalized experience, and sent me forms to sign digitally to minimize the paperwork upon my arrival. Upon arriving - I was concerned about parking, as it is on Ventura and we all know parking can be scarce there. To my pleasant surprise - they have ample parking in the back of the building, so I didn't have to stress about that. Once I went inside, the front desk staff were super courteous in checking me in. The wait time was minimal - and the technician took me and my cat Shiva inside the room. I love that the room was specific to cats only - it had a Feliway pheromone diffuser plugged in, Temptations cat treats, and Churu puree treats to ensure she was happy and comfortable. There was a white board with her name customized on it welcoming her, super cute. Two technicians came in to take her temperature and ask me some initial questions for the reason of my visit (I love that there were two, one to pet her and keep her calm, and the other to do temperature) -- they also took it via her ear vs. the oh so unpreferred method - which kept her level of stress at a minimum. The vet (Dr. Chiang) then came in and was super nice. She started by offering Shiva catnip and proceeded to give her Churu treats and petting her to earn her trust. The amount of time she set aside for the visit was something I am not used to, so I was very impressed that I didn't feel rushed or just a number. She went over treatment options, and even gave us a couple toys to take home with us, while providing a complimentary nail trim. I felt seen and listened to as a customer and that me and my pet were number one priority throughout the whole visit. They've converted me to switching to this vet's office permanently for all 3 of my cats needs in the future. Thank you to the team! If you're questioning checking this place out for your fur babies - don't hesitate and book now!

I recently had to put my 25 and 1/2-year-old baby girl, Sox, to sleep. It was heart-wrenching since I'd had her since she was born in my backyard. They made it the absolute best that it could possibly have been, given the circumstances and job at hand. They were thoroughly compassionate, kind beyond belief, patient and understanding. Honestly, when I get my next pet, this is my new vet office. Thank you for helping me help my baby girl over the rainbow bridge, Dr. Sam Richter!!!

Well, we ended up staying with SOVG for another 5 years. Unfortunately, their Vetsulin price was a…read morelot cheaper than any other vet we called. But now, 5 years later, we have officially left SOVG. Our 9 year old dog, Lucy, was not eating. She was lethargic, vomiting, and not pooping. We figured she had an obstruction- that she had eaten something and it was blocking her intestine. (This happened to my first dog years ago, so I was familiar with the symptoms.) We took Lucy to SOVG on a Tuesday. I was at work, but my partner explained to Dr Dumas that we thought it was an obstruction. He wanted to give her an x-ray. They couldn't see anything on the x-ray for some reason, so my partner was given two options- take her home and monitor her, or leave her there all day so they could try to flush her out with fluids and get an accurate x-ray. We obviously didn't want to just take her home and heal her with positive thoughts, so my partner agreed to leave her there to get a diagnosis. Hours later, they called my partner and said that they still could not see anything on the x-ray, even after giving her fluids all day and giving her SIX x-rays. They had absolutely no idea what was wrong with her, and their only suggestion was to take her to their partner emergency vet in Pasadena to get an ultrasound. But because they had kept her at SOVG for so long, it would be considered "after hours," so would be significantly more expensive. Mind you, this is at 3:00 in the afternoon. Because we love our dog, my partner rushed her to Pasadena. He checked the bill SOVG handed him before he left and they had charged us $1500 to keep our dog all day, putting her through various torturous medical procedures with no sedation including shoving a tube down her nose to drain fluid from her abdomen and giving her those 6 x-rays. In Pasadena, the vet said that Lucy was severely dehydrated (after spending the entire day at SOVG "getting fluids") and they had to hydrate her. The gave her the after-hours ultrasound and lo and behold, she had an obstruction. She needed immediate surgery, which would be $10,000 because it was "after hours" at 3:30pm on a Tuesday. Again, because we love our dog, we immediately applied for a Care Credit card and approved the surgery. She ended up staying in the hospital for another day because her blood pressure was low after surgery (add another $1000). Once she was safely at home and my partner and I were able to relax and think about what had just happened, we were furious. SOVG held our dog for 6 hours, keeping her in a high anxiety situation with nothing to calm her, torturing her with tests and tubes and IVs, only to have absolutely no clue what could be wrong with her. Then, only when it was "after hours," they told us that basically if we wanted to help her, we had to go to their partner across the valley and spend $11,000. They took advantage of an extremely scary situation. They acted like they simply could not find out what was wrong with her, and waited so they could get the absolute maximum profit from us for themselves and their Pasadena partners. They put our dog through hell and charged us $1500. When we called to complain, we were told that the doctor "did everything right" and they would offer us no real apology, compensation, or refund. I have been going to SOVG for 15 years. 4 dogs, multiple surgeries, illnesses, and scary moments. Our beloved dog with diabetes passed away at their facility in February. We have been loyal to this organization because we wanted to believe that they cared. But after this horrible incident, we will never step foot in this facility again. Money, money, money. That's all they want, and they will try to get it by putting you and your beloved pet through hell until you're desperate enough to say yes to anything.

The girls at the front desk went above and beyond by squeezing my little guy in at the very end of the day on one of their busiest days before the Fourth of July holiday. I know they were extremely busy, but they still made time for us, and I'm so grateful. My little pup decided to do some "parkour" off the furniture after the midweek fireworks scared him, and he suddenly became completely non-weight-bearing on his back leg.Dr. Oh was absolutely amazing. He wasted no time getting X-rays, quickly diagnosed a hairline fracture, and thoroughly explained everything to me. Thankfully, surgery wasn't necessary, and we have a treatment plan to help him heal. Every single person we encountered showed genuine care, kindness, and compassion not just for my dog, but for me as a worried pet parent. The clinic itself is adorable too! I loved all the cute pet photos decorating the office and wish I had taken more pictures because it has such a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you, Dr. Oh and the entire Van Nuys Vet Clinic team, for taking such great care of my little guy. We truly appreciate everything you did and couldn't have asked for a better experience during such a stressful day.

I met with a male vet who was borderline condescending and explained how my dog needed 12(!) extractions when just a year before his teeth were perfect. I felt something was very off and replied that if his condition was that drastic, I would take my dog to his normal vet for the procedure. Then, oddly, the vet mentioned, almost in passing, how Green Dog makes their money off of tooth extractions. That's when all my alarms went off. After taking my dog to his normal vet for the dental under anesthesia, he ended up only needing ONE extraction!! Everything else was fine. I was so glad I went with my gut and got a second opinion. I hate to say I'll never be able to trust this location in the future.

Our pets have always been under Dr. Erica Heim's care. She is a wonderful Veterinarian who has helped us through preventative care and through tragedy as well. We trust her judgement as she has been with us through the thick and thin. When I got there, vet techs were waiting for me. Some of them took her back, and one took my story on what happened, and her symptoms. I had to call Pet Poison Line so they could tell the vets how to treat her-that's fine-and they wanted to do a full workup on her since she is 12. I said that's fine, that's what insurance is for. It was about 11pm when I was sent home to rest while they took care of her. At about two, they called me to tell me that she survived the nightshade poisoning, but they had found a thicker spot in her intestines in the x-ray, and they wanted to do follow-up images in the morning, so I got another estimate for them to keep her til the next day and run another round of x-rays and do an ultrasound. She stayed and I went back to sleep. In the morning, a very kind vet whose name I don't remember called me and went over what is happening and why that spot could be there. She gave me advice on how to proceed after today. She asked what food my cat eats so they could give it to her there too. I was kept in the loop the whole time from when I got there to when I picked her up at 4:30pm. It set me back about $3500. Thank God for pet insurance. But considering all they did and the overnight stay, not terrible. My cat's idiocy may have saved her bacon if we caught something early, but so did True Care's thoroughness.

Calls are rarely returned, communication is almost nonexistent, and getting something as simple as a prescription refill has turned into a nightmare. My dog depends on his medication to eat properly, yet I was told I now need to pay for another doctor's appointment just because the previous veterinarian left over a year ago -- something they never bothered to properly communicate to pet owners. How is that acceptable? To make matters worse, they don't even have appointments available until mid-July. So what exactly are patients supposed to do in the meantime? Wait until their pets are seriously suffering just to be seen and get medication they already rely on? There seems to be a complete lack of urgency, compassion, and accountability. Pet owners trust clinics with the wellbeing of their animals, and this experience has been beyond frustrating and honestly heartbreaking

The last thing you want when your fur baby is suffering is to reach voicemail after voicemail. Hearing a compassionate human voice on the other end of the phone brought me so much comfort. She came to my home first thing the next morning. I was worried about my younger Golden Retriever jumping on her or interfering with her care, but she was absolutely wonderful with both of my dogs. She encouraged him to stay in the room with us once he was comfortable with her, and I truly believe that helped him understand what was happening. She was incredibly professional, but I'll never forget one small moment. Out of the corner of my eye, while I was saying my final words and paying my last tributes to my girl, I saw her quietly wiping tears from her eyes. As a healthcare provider myself, I know how often we're expected to wear a mask and stay composed. Seeing that genuine emotion didn't make her seem less professional, it reassured me that she truly cared. In those final moments, your mind races. You question whether you're making the right decision. Seeing her emotion gave me peace because I knew she wasn't simply going through the motions. I knew that if she believed my girl wasn't ready, she would have told me. Most of us are fortunate enough to experience this kind of heartbreak only a few times in our lives. She carries families through it over and over again. That takes an incredible amount of compassion. Thank you for your kindness, your empathy, and for helping my sweet Lilo leave this world peacefully and with dignity. Please take care of yourself, too. The first photo is the day Oliver met Lilo as a puppy, their first photo together. The second was taken just before the veterinarian arrived to help Lilo pass. This is not my first review of our beloved Dr G, and I just recommended her to 6 more people again just these past 2 weeks. I always say to people I give her card to: "you will discover she is an Earth Angel - if she moved to a different town, I'd take my pup there... When you find a great vet, they are Gold! She's not only compassionate, present and knowledgeable, but also she does not oversell." Besides all the regular check ups, Dr G. has performed 2 substantial surgeries on my pup in the last 8 years, and has been extremely kind, providing valuable reassuring step-by-step updates throughout, especially aware that I had lost my beloved first dog, (with a different vet), when he did not make it through the anesthesia... In the 8 years Dr G. has been our one and only vet; everyone I have sent to Dr G. has fallen in love with her, and has thanked me for the referral. I trusted Dr G and her small compassionate team with the euthanasia of my precious second dog, Handsome. She is truly an Angel on Earth. At her Chatsworth location, I love that she's created a lovingly cozy "home environment" for the euthanasia experience. That it so needed during that deeply emotional time, and more veterinary offices ought to follow her example. I found her many years ago when I was dissatisfied with a busy veterinary front desk in Sherman Oaks, after they had made errors in my first dog's chart. Unfortunately he passed, and I learned that finding the RIGHT professional truly makes ALL the difference. So yes, I drive from Sherman Oaks. Gratefully so :) I am thankful that my cherished pups are her patients. Her ethics, her care, her kindness, her knowledge, her integrity - she's our number 1!!!
