We…read moreopted to go for the adult only retreat as our youngest child (the only one left) had no desire to go and if we weren't taking our kid we certainly didn't want to deal with anyone else's. Going into this trip I didn't know much, other than they had horses and that was what I wanted to do - ride horses. We arrived really early in the morning and was picked up at the airport, which was the size of a postage stamp. It was really easy to find our person, who grabbed our bags and loaded them into the trailer while we sat in the van. Met some others that were on the trip on the way to the lodge. Upon arrival they had a tent setup in the front where they greeted us, gave us a bag with a map of the property and list of that week's activities, told us our rooms weren't ready yet but they would find us when they were. Now - I'm going to note that they said they would find us when our room was ready and I didn't think they really would. We continued to check in to see when the room would be ready, but then later I saw them literally hunting someone down to give her keys - so they will indeed find you. When we checked in the room was a standard lodge room, we had a fridge but our friends didn't, in mentioning this in passing to the staff they brought them a fridge. Talk about service! We spent the next four days riding horses mostly, but also enjoying the company of the other guests and hearing stories from the staff. While we were really heavy on the horse rides we also enjoyed taking a tour of the elk preserve and clay sporting. We got a ride up to the yoga spot for a view (weren't too keen on hiking up there) and spent a good amount of time in the bar with fellow guests chatting up the staff. Everyone was amazing and so accommodating- I had said it was a bucket list trip but the staff at the Averill ranch has me seriously considering returning next year. Thank you for the memories.

Shayla, our host, texted us ahead of time to make sure we were all set for a smooth check-in. That small gesture alone made us feel genuinely cared for. Each day, Shayla prepared the most delicious homemade baked goods, which made us feel like we were at a home away from home. Since we planned to head to Glacier National Park early each day, she kindly packed to-go breakfasts for us--always thoughtful, fresh, and satisfying. On the mornings we stayed in, she served beautiful homemade breakfasts that were just as delicious. The extra touches throughout the lodge made our stay even more special--the self-serve charcuterie, fresh fruit, and beverages were such a nice bonus. The lodge itself was peaceful and quiet, which we really appreciated. We stayed for five nights and can confidently say this was one of our favorite places we've ever stayed. The hotel itself is a 2 star experience but once you factor in staff services it's a 1 star. The remodel was half hearted and I'll bullet point all my problems with this one night stay in an Executive Room. - Parking fee is $12, website says $10 - Room descriptions inaccurate including bed types and number of TVs. - Odd dirty smell in room and bathroom - No clock, drapes, iron or board, coffee pot, safe, closet, dresser or any type of hanging racking for clothes in room. - Shower floor not level, resulting in water pooling to one corner where it stayed all night. This might explain odd, dirty smell. - Moth inside sheets of king bed, discovered at bed time after pulling sheets back. - No sheets on sofa bed or anywhere in room. Asked front desk for sheets when headed out for dinner, they offered to have housekeeping put sheets on but we declined and asked to get them upon my return. Housekeeping entered room anyway even with do not disturb on door. - TV didn't work nor did telephone when I tried calling down for tech support. - Walk downstairs to ask about TV, given instructions how to reset box but even that didn't work. Asked to move rooms but they were booked up. When I asked for discount, they offered $25 off a $350 rate. I asked for larger discount but was told manager must approve and they'd follow up with me but no one did and no discount provided at all. Later front desk clerk came to room, unplugged and plugged in new cords to get TV working. - Thin walls and windows, heard traffic and drunks leaving the bar across street late into the night and if it's a Wednesday morning you'll hear a dump truck at 6:20am. Through all this never even an apology from any staffer.
