enjoy the course, but they have a major pace of play and tee-time spacing issue. It has taken me over 3 hours to play 9 holes multiple times so far this summer. When you ask for a rain check on a perfect sunny day and they have no issue giving you one, it certainly seems they are aware of this problem. This is quite possibly the most overbooked and worst pace of play course I have personally played in over 15 years of golfing. have been disappointed this summer, which is unfortunate considering this is an enjoyable course when you can actually play it. read more

90+ degree day and no water to drink on the golf course! No water fountains, gatorade jugs, or cart girl at all! Super easy to dehydrate and dangerous. Carts also suck and are noisy. Close to 5 hour round because there's no course Marshall to be found. read more

This is an average golf course at best - but EJ who apparently "runs the course" according to An employee working in the pro shop is an utter douchebag and tainted any shred of hope for me returning. Our foursome was on time and ready to go, but they were behind which is understandable. As I started to tee off I got a call and my watch vibrates - I silence it. Took me an extra 10 seconds - grand total of 30 seconds to tee up my first shot of 18 holes. Then this disrespectful turd decides Echem me and start talking as I am trying to tee off - completely ruining my tee shot. No apologies. Then he proceeds to yell that we are "going to have to hurry up" after his ineptitude delayed us more than 15 minutes from the start. Really a poor excuse for a human and a starter. To think that this guy " runs the place" says terrible things about this course. I would avoid this place at all costs if you care about your time and being treated like a human. read more

Today was the third time I played this golf course. It was one of the worse experiences, I've ever had. The course played fine and the staff was great(only reason they get 1 star). The "Director of golf/starter". Was rushing us from the very beginning. We consistently waited for the foursome in front of us yet the starter found us on 3 different occasions to tell us we were playing too slow. We finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes(on a Sunday). When I confronted him after our round he had the nerve to tell me he was the reason we finished within our time. I will never play this course again. The course was fine, but not nearly worth the $70 and the harassment. Very disappointed. read more

Lake Bluff has been a mainstay in my Northshore golfing circuit for some time. It's a decent golf course that is typically in good condition. The course went through a pretty horrible redesign many years ago. To build a range, they redesigned the old 9th into a short and sharp dogleg left (now the finishing hole), littered it with bunkers and ended up with a hole that is completely inconsistent with the rest of the golf course. The new 18th green and fairway are often speckled with range balls as they simply do not have space for a range and a golf hole in the same area. To build off of a past review, our group had a very negative experience with the Course Manager, EJ Bertke today. We will not return to play at this course. I don't normally post this type of review, but the lack of professionalism displayed by this individual was disappointing and hard to understand. My father and I were golfing with our close family friend as a group of three earlier today. My father is in his 60's and so is our other friend. My father arrived early and paid for two without any issues being raised. Our third player arrived and was told that his tee dues had been paid.He corrected the front desk and informed him that he was the third member and had not yet paid. There was a courteous exchange with the desk personnel and once again, no other discussion or information was exchanged. We started on the back nine and reached the first green.The course manager approached us on the 10th hole and immediately accused us of having had an acrimonious and combative altercation with the front desk. We assumed that he was referring to another group of players. He berated us for having taken three carts and demanded that we return one cart or leave the course. He had not greeted us, introduced himself, or attempted to explain or discuss the misunderstanding. He stated that we had been "warned" before we teed off. This was not true, and we did not receive this type of advance notice. A shouting match ensued and the insults and antagonism continued to escalate a situation that could have been very easily resolved. E.J. Bertke was extremely rude and entirely off base with his accusations. It is questionable whether a person with this lack of social discourse should be in a supervisory position. I hope this informs golfers looking at this course, a very bizarre encounter on an otherwise beautiful day. To repeat, we will never play at Lake Bluff golf course again. read more

What a cow pasture. I was there the other day. Nobody around to help . Not enough carts so you had to wait to try and find one. it was difficult to tell the fairways from the rough. Large weeds sticking up 8" all over most fairways. Greens were shaggy and slow. I have no idea when a mower was last on the course. They had a big sign on the door to the clubhouse "masks required to enter" but half the guys waiting to pay did not have a mask on, and nobody said a word. There are many other fine reasonable golf courses in the area. Don't waste your time here read more

This course is a decent value, but nothing outstanding from a player's standpoint. It's generally in good shape - except for the range. I played there with a friend of mine at twilight and we wanted to play quickly in order to finish 18. We were partnered with an older gentleman who had NO business playing from the white tees with us. He slowed us down a lot. Most courses are aware of the pace of play issue, but this just demonstrated that they were just looking to make numbers rather than think about pace. People don't want a round to take 4.5-5 hours! There are also a bunch of kids who play here regularly, none of whom show much consideration for anyone but themselves (surprise). Other than these couple of detractors, LBGC is a course that will offer players many challenging holes at a fair rate. I'll play here on occasion. read more

It's a decent course, I've played here a few times. Its a tight course where if you miss the fairway you gotta punch out but the tee boxes are fine fairways are good the greens are a little beat up from ball marks but that's just people not knowing how to fix a ballmark or how to do it correctly the people that work in the clubhouse are really slow read more

I like playing here late in the day. The course is usually not crowded then and allows for relaxed easy play. The design itself is wide open and good for players of all levels. More staff/service and more space between foursomes in busy times would help a lot. read more

Lake Bluff Golf Club is a municipal course just off of Hwy 176 in Lake Bluff. They have very friendly staff and cheap rates. They have a small but nice practice area with a large putting green, a chipping/pitching hole with a bunker and a driving range. They are also open year round which is nice. The course is not much to write home about. The the front nine is pretty boring and as flat as a pancake. The back nine is a lot better with some interesting holes that at least make you think a little. I'll probably come back when I want to get a cheap practice round in or use their practice area. However, there are too many other much better courses in Lake County to spend much time here. read more

Not even close to good value for your money. Green fee between $50-$60. Grounds were not well maintained. The rough consisted of several different kinds of grasses, weeds, bare spots. Fairways are super narrow, probably to cut down on the cost of maintaining. There is no water on the course, but you can buy a bottle of water for $2.50. Cart fee is $17. I know this is park district course, but it's obvious they are gouging the golfers, probably to make up for shortfalls in other areas. Shepard's Crook in Zion is also a park district course and exponentially a better value. read more

Went here on 7/2/21, having just moved to Lake Bluff. Told the pro "EJ" that I was interested in golfing there, having moved literally across the street. I asked him what the daily greens fees were for a Senior Resident. He replied that the annual rate was $925! I specifically asked if there was a daily rate and he said that in the spring they offered a 10 play package, but it was not available in July. He NEVER MENTIONED A DAILY RATE. It turns out, the daily rate is as little as $32 plus $14 for a cart for 18 holes. Shame on me for not checking the LBGC website first, but EJ flat out deceived me into purchasing the Annual Pass for $925. When I returned on 7/3/21 and confronted EJ he says I must have misunderstood him and that he quoted me a daily greens fee rate- that's a flat out untruth. When I told him I wanted my money back, he said he'd process it next Tuesday, not right away. This guy is not to be trusted, and presents a negative image of the village of Lake Bluff. I'll still play golf here going forward, but I'll be leery when dealing with EJ, whose motto appears to be " We don't give you the shaft, we sell it to you"! read more

I've been here 3 times, each time gradually worse due to bad or inconsiderate management. Keep in mind that this is near my work and all three times I was trying to hop on in the afternoon on a weekday. First time I went out (and the only time I actually played), they conveniently left out that aeration had just occured, so the greens were almost unplayable. The course itself was in ok shape, but agree with others that it is a little bland, and conditions were average at best. But average is ok as long as the course is accommodating. I decided to give it another shot and arrived around 5pm on a Friday. They had an outing which had just finished up their round and was now eating dinner. I thought the timing was perfect with no one on the course, however when I asked to hop on, the lady at the pro shop told me "Sorry, course is closed". "But they're finished now aren't they?" I said. "Doesn't matter, course is closed." (at 5pm on a summer Friday? Really?) I gave it one more chance, and again showed up after work. Course looks bare. Awesome. I go inside ready to pay. "Sorry, we have leagues starting at 5:30pm. Can't let you out." I take look at the clock "But it's 5:07 right now...I'm ready to go. I'll play fast I swear." "Sorry, can't do it...can't risk holding up our leagues," he replied. I tried to think of a solution, and asked if I could go off hole 10. "No, can't hold up other golfers already on the course". Fine, understandable. So then asked if I could start at hole 3, which is right near the first tee, and not a single person was on the first 2 holes, which can be seen from the clubhouse. Without even giving it a 2nd thought..."No". The kicker was I stuck around to practice putting, and the first group in the league didn't even tee off until 5:45. As a single, I would've been on the 4th hole by then. I just left and haven't gone back since. I'm certainly not missing it. read more

Won't be back! First off, there is nothing special about this course. Maybe worth $30/round. The guy up front (who seemed to be in charge) was grumpy and not friendly. So here was the worst part. Our cart broke down as far away from the club house as it could. We called the club house for literally 30 minutes. Kept getting an answering machine. Walking would not have been an issue, but we were both using cart bags that had no straps and I have knee issues that would have made it painful to carry a bag and walk that much. Finally we got in touch with them and they said they'd send someone. Shortly after, a guy showed up, hooked up to us to tow us in (why tow us in and not just bring us an extra cart so we can finish playing????) So half way back, the cart towing us dies. We are asked to walk back. We do. We watch from a distance as the staff who were trying to help us explain to the guy in charge. He looks at us a few times, hops in his cart, does even make eye contact or give us an apology, and drives by in anger. We go into the golf shop and I explain what happened. The lady says sorry and offers us one free cart rental. This place is a joke! read more

I somewhat agree with the previous posts. I'll be a little more generous. The course is a little bland, but still challenging and the setup is decent. There are some interesting holes and I found the course to be in pretty good condition. Also, cheap/affordable golf for Lake County. read more
