The name comes from the Cherokee village that was once located there. The total lake covers over almost 11 square miles and has a maxium depth of 144 feet. The most common fish here are the spotted bass, channel catfish, black crappies and large and small mouth bass. If you have children a great place to take them is the Towns County Recreational Beach located at 525 US-76. They have a playground there and a beach for the kids to swim and play in. They also have bathrooms, picnic tables, bathrooms and showers at the beach. For those who plan to come to Lake Chatuge beware that during holidays, like Memorial Day weekend the lake is extremely packed, which makes it almost impossible to fish off the shore with the heavy traffic causing too much wake. We parked at the first parking lot, which was pretty full, but after the steep, short walk up the remainder, found 3 more spots up top. It's worth checking. The views were spectacular. Our 16 year old dog had some trouble with all the steps, but managed it. Also, more graffiti than you're likely to see in any one place, but climb those stairs, get above the graffiti, and it's worth every step!

We rented a beautiful Alliance Paradigm 382rk that is always parked at the River Vista RV Park in Dillard GA (GREAT PLACE). The RV is a 2023 BUT it looks brand new as they take such good care of it. It was spotless when we arrived and everything worked perfectly. The kitchen is HUGE and the King bed was so comfortable! Torri was so easy to reach when we had questions and made the entire process seamless. We absolutely loved the River Vista RV park- most are Full time owners and they are the nicest folks you'll ever meet. If you want to experience RV living you should rent this RV at River Vista, you'll have a blast! We can not wait to come back!

Long Ridge is a very well run camp ground with wonderful bathrooms and showers. They have spots for tent and electric and water van hook ups so they cater to all manner of camping. And while they advertise two night minimums online, if you call a person they'll let you stay for one night. Our neighbor smoked cigars and had slow R&B music playing till about 9pm and then it was quiet. We able to get a fire started fairly easily at our site. There was a pond with fish in it for catch and release only. No other amenities. The night was quiet and got down to the low 50s and I slept well enough to function the next day. All in all a great time here.
