I'm used to waiting and crowds and I know what it means for service industry folks to be in the weeds. That said, I actually don't think I've ever spent $50 on a worse breakfast experience for two and I don't say that lightly. There were a ton of open tables and they weren't slammed. Yet the service was atrocious - truly, and it wasn't just our server. The guest journey map: Our host grabbed a menu and led us to a table without a word. Another gentleman came by with drinks, and ten minutes later someone came by to ask whether we wanted à la carte or buffet items. At that point we chose the buffet. Someone came by another few minutes later with lukewarm coffee. We waited another several minutes for cream. The table next to mine got up to get their own from the server station, and then a server came by and apologized to them. Listen: The totally weird à la carte vs. buffet hybrid format is really odd. If your staff can't handle both formats simultaneously, choose to offer one or the other and do it well. It was a buffet but we had to wait forever for servers to bring drinks and silverware? Tables could be turned over ten times faster if all drinks were on the buffet line. Regarding the food itself: yes, there were a few types of juice in the buffet but no visible cups or even a spot where they'd be. We had to finish our table water and bring those cups up to the buffet? Totally odd. I respectfully request that the general manager review their scrambled egg recipe immediately. I'm not blaming the chef here because i have no doubt they're told what to do. But these aren't just powdered eggs: some kind of filler is being added intentionally and it's not OK - flour or something similar - the texture almost takes like cake batter. I heard multiple people around me talking about it. The dry sausage had no label saying what kind it was. The game sausage gravy had no label saying what kind of critter it was. The breakfast potatoes were overcooked and dry. French toast toppings were 20 feet away from the French toast, so you have to backtrack in line to add fruit. It's set up so very strange. It feels like the absolute cheapest ingredients are used here - and what a shame considering this is an NHTP destination hotel. This is not acceptable quality for a $25 breakfast. Verdict: Every single thing listed above can be fixed, easily and quickly, with the slightest bit of attention by management. This isn't a general staffing and quality control issue. I'm sure the staff are lovely. This is an oversight issue. I've had better free breakfasts at Super 8 motels in the side of the interstate. For $50, I felt like we got robbed.

For example, we arrived late one evening from Glacier Park, around 9:00 pm, and I was planning to make some spaghetti for a later dinner for my two kids. When I looked for a pot to boil the noodles, however, I couldn't find one, and then I saw the sign by the phone in the cabin that read "If you need anything," to call their service number. When I called the number, there was no answer, and since I had stayed at the Great Bear Inn before, I walked over to the main building, which was always open for guests, to find someone to help. When I found the place quiet and the manager's office closed, however, I went into the public kitchen area and took a pot, walked back to my cabin, and made the spaghetti. After my family ate the food, I washed and cleaned the pot and returned it to the kitchen. The following day I called the landlady, named "Bunny," and asked what I needed to do to check out the following day. When she asked me why I had called the previous night, I explained I needed to borrow a pot to cook spaghetti, but after I tried calling and then walked over to the office and found no one to help, I borrowed one from the public kitchen area, used it to boil the noodles, and after eating, I had cleaned the pot and promptly returned it to the kitchen. Bunny was irate and scolded me for doing this, insinuating that I had broken some sort of unpublished rule that the kitchen was off limits to guests. When I objected and said that I had both called and walked to the office for help, she was became rude to me, saying that she had an early bedtime schedule and could not be bothered after 9:00 pm. When I expressed my dissatisfaction at this blatant disregard of the customer's need, she became hostile, and when I told her that I had paid over $1500 to stay in the supposedly furnished cabin for three nights and therefore had a reasonable expectation to have the place furnished as was stated in the advertisement. When Bunny insisted that the pot I had needed was included in the kitchen area, I looked once again and finally found it -- but it was stored behind a wooden panel that was stuck due to poor maintenance of the property. When I explained this to her she was entirely unsympathetic and cold toward me... I have no ill-will toward Bunny and her husband Larry who manage the new version of the "Great Bear Inn." I had stayed at the resort twice before in previous years and under the former management my experience then was happy and the service was excellent. However I can no longer recommend the Great Bear Inn because the new management apparently has no idea of what decent customer service means. Let me close by saying that on the day of our departure, Larry, the husband of Bunny, aggressively came to the cabin and pounded on the door telling us to get out because it was almost 11:00 AM. At the time I was washing dishes we used there because there was a sign posted that said that all residents must wash the dishes before leaving, but Larry told me to just forget it and get out... He and Bunny then sat in their noisy ATV jeep in front of cabin until we finished packing the car and we drove off.... Disgraceful and childish behavior, to say the least, and I will NEVER stay at the Great Bear Inn again. For these and other reasons, not the least being the $500 per night price for staying there, I EMPHATICALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THE GREAT BEAR INN.

I guess I could have taken a 1/2 star away for this but it didn't impact the enjoyment. It was great to have the separated cabins and a variety of cabins to pick from. The Snowberry Center was decorated beautifully and I could not have asked for a better place for a Glacier Park wedding setting. The Airport and Costco was just a few minutes away, so everything was easily accessible. I highly recommend and plan to return for anniversaries.

The only drawback for us was that the weather was extremely unseasonably warm, and it took the log cabin a long time to cool down at night (it was in the high 90s and there is no AC). But the ceiling fan did help. Breakfast was delicious. The owner was very friendly and happy to give advice about things to see and do both inside and outside of the park. And the grounds are immaculate. If you want a nice place to stay where you can avoid the noise and crowds, I highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the deluxe chalet for the second and last time this year. Here we go with the tough lesson that took us a second time to learn. The place LOOKS nice all-around. Your first clue that upkeep is not a priority is the second step on the stairs as you walk to the office to check in. It's split almost in half, making getting up the stairs a little dicey. Further on to the deluxe chalet, past lots of nice landscaping, paint is peeling everywhere, and wooden railings seem ideal for splinters. Inside the deluxe chalet, first impressions are nice. It LOOKS attractive. For the second year, the left sink in the full bath linked a LOT on the floor, making it virtually unusable. Though we shared the second sink, the fact that this wasn't fixed from last year seems to speak to the lack of concern for upkeep. There's daily maid service, but it seems to be a minimum. They make the beds, pick up used towels, and empty trash (usually), but they may rely too heavily on the Roomba. The wood floors never seemed clean, to the point where I noticed after walking around barefoot for a while inside, the water under my feet turned black briefly after I started my shower. If you want to sit and relax after a long day at the park, there's satellite TV, but navigating the menus is a mess (probably more DishTV's fault) and the smart TV features on all TVs were maddening to figure out, and never worked once you DID figure them out (partially Vizio's bad design). The wireless internet was reasonable, but note there are two routers with two different passwords. Because why make things simple? The bedrooms LOOK nice (seeing a trend?) but the beds are hard, and the pillows are only a slight step up from the ones airlines used to offer. If you need neck support, you might want to bring your own. Last, there's the overall struggle to be comfortable with the temperature. There's NO air conditioning, so if the outside temp breaks 80, good luck cooling down before nightfall, especially with poor indoor air circulation, even with a ceiling fan in the living room and one in one of the two bedrooms. The afternoon sun BAKES the sun room, and the rest of the time it matches the outdoor temperature, so it might as well be an open-air room. We finally learned the hard way that the premium cost for the deluxe chalet was not worth it for the not-at-all premium and uncomfortable experience. Hopefully this review can save you money, discomfort, and disappointment.
