True Wisconsin bar! You get what you get. Ordered 4 drinks and 2 entrees for $48. Can't complain. Burger, a bit underwhelming. Needs a bit more salt and pepper. Over cooked for sure. But, $8.... And still good with a beer. Fry's where the main show I tell you hwat! Crispe and seasoned to perfection! Well done! Solid 3.7/5 so I'll round up to 4/5. I'll be back, hungry for more. read more

A perfect bar/grill in small town Wisconsin! Very cold beer at $4 a pop and good inexpensive menu. Burgers are less than $10 here, a steal. My wife had a shrimp Po Boy and I a grilled chicken wrap at $11 bucks. Both were perfectly make and delicious. On this day at lunch time it wasn't busy as it can be on the weekends so it was a relaxing experience. Don't miss it if in the area. read more

My GF and I went there for dinner late yesterday afternoon and it was a very bad experience. We made the mistake of sitting at the bar. A man sat next to her and immediately started chatting her up and he wouldn't shut up. We were both uncomfortable. He was relentless. He stuttered so badly that it was apparent that he had issues. He could barely speak cohesively. Giving him the benefit , I decided to just get away from him. We informed our bartender/waitress that we were moving to the patio. She said nothing, knowing that he was bothering us. We started eating our meals on the patio, and sure enough, this guy came walking out to the patio. As he sat down at the outside bar I noticed a huge knife on his belt. 12-14 inches. He now was talking to another guy next to him and he took the knife out to show him. He was drinking alcohol and brandishing a huge knife so I grabbed my GF and told her that we were getting the hell out of there immediately. I asked to speak to the owner but he was in the basement. We paid up and left in a hurry. Not one employee bothered to show any concern or apologize. This is due to zero training to handling this situation. Im pretty sure that he's a regular. I'm also guessing that they have signs on the doors prohibiting weapons. Carrying a huge knife and drinking alcohol in a bar has to be against the law??? Never going back. No attempt to provide a safe environment.... I'm very respectful to people with disabilities but this was a potentially scary situation. read more

Had a ham and cheese deli sandwich. HORRIBLE the ham was all gristle and no flavor. The bread was two weeks after its prime. Dry, dry, dry! Very disappointed that the waitress saw it was not eaten and did not ask what the issue is. I blame the trainer to have staff question why it wasn't eaten. I really wish this place would have better food. It is nice to stop in after leaving Madison. Stop in for a drink, stay away from the food. read more

Their Monday night special is Po boys Made with Stella's spicy cheese rolls. They are good! Battered fries or waffle fries round out a good meal. I had a brandy old fashioned sweet - delish! Muddled fruit made it the best I have hade in a while. So many places skip the muddle and IMHO that makes the drink the best!! The bar may not look like much but it is clearly a great place as the staff is friendly, drinks are fantastic and the food id yummy. Head to Paoli and relax. read more

Stopped in here after taking a kayak float down the Sugar River. This was the perfect place to recharge and cool down after a hot day in the sun. It was nice a cool inside. Looks like there is outdoor seating out back, but we were happy to be indoors. We ordered the crab rangoons as an appetizer and honestly, I was skeptical. Crab rangoons, from a bar? Seemed weird to me. BOY was I wrong. These rangoons were seriously some of the best crab rangoons I have ever had. Light and flaky, super flavorful, accompanied by the perfect sweet and tangy dipping sauce. Definitely recommend! I also got a French dip sandwich and fries, both of which were very tasty. I would say above average bar food for sure. Very friendly staff and over all seemed like a fun atmosphere! read more

We stopped Sunday after listening to music @ the Wisconsin Brewery. We both ordered the fried chicken and were thoroughly impressed. The service was fantastic and the chicken was the best fried chicken we have had, We got it was served with creamy mashed potatoes. I definitely recommend you try their pub chicken. The Paoli Pub is a little gem located in quaint Paoli. We just missed the Wisconsin Badger Basketball team that were there after floating the Sugar River and heard they had the same chicken. When you first pull up to the pub it looks very small. Once you walk inside it's actually rather large. My nephew and I were able to go on a Sunday to meet the rest of our family. While we were waiting for our family, we decided to partake in a lovely Wisconsin activity pull tabs. We may not have won a bunch of money, but we did win a few dollars. we arrived on a Sunday and we knew that we were there for the fried chicken special. I have to say it was absolutely some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. The breading was light and crispy not greasy or heavy at all. The chicken was hot and fresh and juicy. You can get it as a family style and it comes with 10 pieces of chicken two sides of mashed potatoes and corn plus we ordered mac & cheese for my nephew. I did not have any of that, but it looked scrumptious. The ambience was great, not overly noisy as you would expect in a bar, especially during basketball season in the NCAA championships.I highly recommend this and I will happily be back. Where the hell are you and why aren't you out at the Paoli pub on Wednesdays! Fried Chicken is the special and is spectacular! "ish" the chef is the best traveling chef in the city. Hands down. This has quickly become one of my favorite bar and grill restaurants. I am SO happy to find an amazing fish-fry only 10 minutes away from home! Prior to this (for my entire 20 years in the Madison area) I have been going to Oakcrest Tavern in Middleton for my fish fry fix. (I still think they have an amazing fish fry). But Paoli Pub and Grill is right up there with them! We've tried the perch, cod, and deep fried shrimp. All amazing! You get a choice of potatoes and the cowboy potatoes (a loaded hash brown casserole) are to die for. Prices are very reasonable! I have also been here for breakfast on Sunday and it's very good as well. Great bloody Mary's too! Go to Paoli! It's worth the drive! read more

I declare....Best....Fish....Fry....EVER! We've just started coming here, having only been introduced to this hidden gem last month. Thebestfishfryever! Usually these little hole-in-the-wall places only accept cash, but they accept Credit Cards! We've gotten the fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, fried cod, and baked cod - all perfection. The fried cod is lightly battered and fried, no heavy coating here. And no slimy fish after the batter has fallen off, the batter hugs each lump pieces of cod from arrival to the dip in the tartar sauce. The shrimp specials are something sort of amazing; jumbo, mass of perfectly cooked, devined shrimp are packed with flavor. They don't need any sauce. The texture is firm, crunchy, like the shrimp version of al dente! No chewiness here! They don't have any drink specials on Fridays but the most expensive thing our group has ever gotten is a $4.75 old fashioned. The best part is you can just come as you are, it's local but not "judgy" local like your most watering holes. Noise level is loud, so I don't recommend this as an intimate spot to take someone out on their first date. read more

Was looking forward to curbside pickup of fish fry. Was astounded to see man and boy with no masks or gloves taking payment and delivering food to cars - sometimes leaning in the window. People came in and out of the place - not wearing gloves or masks. Many people touching that same door handle. Was very disappointed there wasn't more strict safety protocol being used. read more

Yummy! I am going to add this burger joint as a stop on my seasonal Paoli trip. I like to stop at the UW surplus, onto Paoli Clay company to pick up clay and glazes, across the street to Cluck for fun chicken shopping, and now HERE for a fabulous burger- so juicy- great, friendly, fast service! Now we are off to the Duluth Trading outlet in Belleville. I highly recommend this small town bar Paoli Clay Mike has a great bumper sticker up in his store. Went for Friday fish fry. Friday's offers baked or fried cod, fried perch, and shrimp. Go withs are fries, or baked potato, for an up charge there are cheesy hash browns. Included are coleslaw and a dinner roll. They offer their regular menu of sandwiches and salads. The place was hopping. Small wait and we were seated. Looked like they were doing a banging take out business. Anyway ordered fried cod and baked spud. Goooood. Attentive service and good food. Will return. Salad only vegetarian option. read more

Classic Friday Night Fish Fry Joint. Although I've heard the burgers are great as well. I had the perch breaded instead battered. It was fantastic, nicely seasoned with a bit of crunch. I had it with the baked potato. But you have a choice of baked, hash browns, or cowboy potatoes. You also get a roll - nothing special but a necessity for a decent fish fry. You also get a decent cole slaw. Companion had the baked cod - but digged the cole slaw - she had three of them! We had a group of 18 and they would not seperate bills. The waitress spent more time arguing with us over not separating, than it would have taken to seperate the bills. She went back and talked about us to the other bartender and customers at the bar when we asked for our bills for the drinks we had ordered and told her we were going elsewhere to eat. It was extremely rude. If I owned a business, I would be very disappointed that they were willing to let at least $300 of business walk out the door. We had heard the food was good there and drove out of our way to get there, so very disappointed we didn't get to try it. Will not go back to ride service. read more

We decided to branch out a little bit last weekend on our quest to try every Friday fish fry in the area. This little pub is your classic old time Midwest bar & grill, complete with video games up against the wall and decor that dates back to the 1980's. No trendy brew pub IPA-style stuff happening here. This is a no frills establishment; the kind that I generally prefer, especially for fish fry. We arrived during the height of the Friday rush, and it was indeed very crowded. It seemed like a miracle at the time but we were seated within a few minutes (more on that in a bit). There's also an option to sit on a patio out back but the weather wasn't that nice so we stayed inside. Spotting the regulars versus the first timers is easy here. Kind of comical, actually. People who haven't been here (like us) look around with worried expressions, thinking they will wait an hour for a table. The regulars just mosy on up, grab a drink and hang. It doesn't take long for tables to open up. People are moving in and out pretty quickly. We both ordered fried cod and a couple drinks. We also ordered some cheese curds. Our food came so fast it was like they already had it ready. They probably do. That's not necessarily a good thing, of course. But our fish was fresh and fantastic. Very crispy outside and moist inside. Not overcooked at all. We ordered the hashbrown casserole as our side, and it's yummy - cheese and onions mixed in with the potatoes. The cheese curds were just OK. Nothing wrong with them, but not special. The coleslaw is the same. Creamy and chopped super-fine, kind of like KFC. All told, we were in and out in an hour and had a great meal. Not too bad for a small pub in a tiny town. If you want to try something new, yet familiar, give this place a try. read more

Holy fried chicken! The Sunday special was unbelievably good. Thanks to the staff who not only served me outside (as the only one out there), but also made two fabulous gin and tonics, as well as more home cooked goodness than I could possibly eat. Final bill was just $18. Amazing. read more
