At the end of the day, I did agree to pay Lake Michigan Heating and Cooling despite their inability to provide an estimate over the phone or to be transparent with billing. They seem to leverage the situation and don't answer questions regarding price break downs. in the end, I'd say they charged me $500 per hour for labor. I was going to call and talk to the owner until I realized that he was the guy already at my house. They are fast and friendly, but you WILL find a more honest company when it comes to pricing. read more

Highly regret using them to put in a new boiler that they recommended a few years ago. I have problems every year and have spent thousands keeping it working. Technicians are great but ownership lacks responsibility for faulty systems and incorrect installations. Sadly, at the same time I did our home, I also put a new boiler system in at my rental property and have had many of the same issues. I do not recommend their services. Lake Michigan Heating, Cooling, and plumbing installing my furnace and air condition was the biggest mistake of my life. We had a good relationship while it lasted, I guess. There were issue upon issue upon issue getting a ~$21000 furnace and air conditioner installed. The details: I've been using Lake Michigan Heating, Cooling, and plumbing /Lake Michigan Mechanical for my HVAC and plumbing needs for about seven years. Until 2024. This yeah I was having problems with my HVAC system, and they sent Cole to look it over. He stated it was likely too small for the home, and would be best to replace it. He gave me three options to choose from. I chose the best/most expensive option of a fully modulating system for $21545.00. Installation day came -- July 2, 2024 -- and boy was it a mess. First they claimed we needed upgraded wiring to the exterior unit, and they would cover the cost. I was informed by the installers they were at a standstill until electric was done. The office called and stated the electrician wouldn't be able to come out until the next day. This was contradictory to the techs. They then used the existing wiring to make the AC work overnight. If miscommunication was the only issue, we wouldn't be here. The installation continued, but they didn't finish. Lake Michigan Heating, Cooling, and plumbing was suppose to come back on the 3rd of July to finish the installation. That didn't happen, I was less important. I also found the installers left a mess all over my countertop. The air condition just didn't work. This was caused by a Limit 33 lockout error. The first lockout was July 3, 2024, where it locked out several times all day long. It was 87 degrees and humid as all get out that day. The next lockout was another all-day affair on the 4th; it was 90 degrees out. It was now "after hours" because of the holiday. I was told by the owners wife, Alyssa that our problem had to wait until next day. The saving grace here was that Cole came all the way to get our system working on the 5th. On July 9, 2024 they finally came to finish the installation. Cole is the one who came to finish it. I stated I wanted some kind of compensation for all of the nonsense. Daniel, the owner hadn't reached out, called, texted, or anything. I have spent over $30000 with them in the past year. The least Daniel could have done is reach out and apologize for all the problems. Eventually Daniel came to my home on the 10th of July when the team returned to finish finishing the system. Daniel tried to make good -- offering $1000 off the bill and circuit breaking surge suppressors installed for no cost. I accepted this offer. It was finished, but for many several days still locked out intermittently. As mentioned, the lockouts continued. This was ridiculous for a ~$20500 install... Finally at the end of July, Lake Michigan Heating, Cooling, and plumbing had a technician from the supplier come and inspect the system. It turns out the ductwork in the house wasn't good enough to support the fully modulating system. Great. Perhaps this should have been noted and addressed when they sold me a fully modulating system. They "fixed" it by closing off the main return in our basement with plastic wrap. They stated that if this fix works, they would make it permanent. I'd only need to worry about drywall. Today is October 9, 2024. They just came to finish the vent now that I've had someone come to handle the drywall. They charged me an additional $225 to install a vent. The entire time no one made mention of this being an additional cost. They didn't tell me there was a charge for this work AFTER they did the work. read more

Wish I had seen the reviews before I signed a service contract with them. Started when they said I needed a new toilet. Cost much more than I had ever paid but my own fault, did not get 2nd opinion. Was told I could save some money by signing up for their maintenance contract which I did. Lead service technician came a little later to service our boiler which was only a few years old. When he left our quiet boiler was making noises from hammer lock. We called to have them come and reset the switches so it would be quiet again and were told there would be a service call charge of $45 if the noise was not due to the tests run by service technician. Since it had been quiet for 3 years, I was confident it was something the technician had done, probably with the switches, so was not worried about the service call. LMM called to reschedule, and Sarah shared the service tech said he didn't move switches, that all boilers make noise, so there would be a charge. I agreed (still sure I would not end up charged when they looked at the boiler) to the rescheduled date and told her we would try but if they couldn't make it quiet again we would cancel the contract after paying the service fee. An hour later she called to tell me the owner said their time was valuable and they would just cancel the contract now and not keep the rescheduled service date. Could have saved money and kept my house quiet if I had read the reviews before dealing with them. read more

I gave LMM one star based on how quickly they responded to the initial service call. Beyond that, my experience with them warrants none. They weren't honest in what they said regarding charges, quoted an astronomical amount for a repair that ended up only being $200 with a different company, were non-responsive to communication regarding an invoice (never received one then four months later had a bunch of late charges on it), and overall were very unprofessional. read more

I had great service when they installed my $17,000 boiler to my 4-plex in Grand Haven, but since then when I have needed service I have been consistently told that it will be the next day or as in the current scenario I am told that I have to wait 2 days (when it is -40 with the wind chill). When you have cold tenants you cannot wait that long. I have been told by their customer service representative that it is because I am 45-60 minutes away. Ironically that was not an issue when they installed my $17,000 boiler. Also, I had them do routine maintenance on my air conditioners, of which I do yearly, at the beginning of the season and I was told that I needed a new part that was going to be between 2200-3000 depending on if I replaced the part or the entire unit pertaining to the part. The air conditioner was only 7 years old so I decided to have a second opinion. I had a local heating and air company (Grand Haven) check the air conditioner. The local company spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with engineers of the company (since it was not very old) that makes the air conditioner. It ended up being a simple fix and cost me less than $300. I was told that the service technician ran all of the diagnostics that could be ran. I do not feel that the service technician (supposedly the senior service technician) understands the units enough to know how to trouble shoot and will not take the time to call the manufacturer to verify that that a relatively new unit has gone bad. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! DO NOT USE L.M.M.!!! I had them out to replace a thermostat and they broke my furnace and left my wife and I without heat for 3 days. They told me it was my fault my furnace broke. Attached is a picture of the thermostat they installed. I would NOT recommend them. read more

The work is sub-par, especially when Eli is performing. He has a tendency to take the easy way and not always the best way. The owner has a slight temper that flares up when situations change and has been seen swearing at people via phone. read more
