Yep, is a no frills place. Older, old tiles, etc... but like the history behind the place. It's been around way longer than the Broncos! Friendly staff. Never been to a bath house before in fear of gay activity, rampant AIDS, etc... But, this was ok. I happen to be younger, very muscular (play college sports), and well endowed, so I did experience more attention than I expected from the salt scrub guy, and some of the patrons. Best not to make eye contact in the steam room, sauna, shower, hot tub, etc... Otherwise, you'll get a troll following you around wanting to remind you how much of a man you are. The older guys just laid out on the benches, nude, and didn't give a @^$# what the gays think. More power to them. I'll do that next time. read more

This was my first experience at Lake Steam Baths and it was wonderful! Easy parking and a cute family owned place. Amy at the front desk was super sweet and helpful! It had a great vibe to it and an old fashioned, classic, feel. The saunas were nice along with the whirlpool. I got a delightful massage from Anne which got rid of all the tension I had. I also got a scrub from Jessica which left my skin feeling amazing. I feel detoxed and refreshed! Amazing experience and I plan on going back again very soon! read more

Ive only ever been to Korean bath houses so thats my only comparison. This place is definitely more for the relaxation and not the looks. That doesnt mean that it looks dirty though. You are given a small towel to sit on when in the steam rooms amd a sheet to walk around with (outside steam areas only, otherwise you are commamdo), so you will need a home towel or to pay for another small one. Like Korean spas you are given a key that I wore as a hair tie. Bring your own soaps and lotions also, as they only have a wash station with a hand dispenser kind of set up (which works well also). Everyone was really nice and answered my questions (staff and regular guest) also can't beat the salt scrub for its price (12 bucks for 15 minutes, my massage person even gave me some extra salt to take with me into the dry steam room, really nice girl). I had a good experience overall, would recommend this to others. read more

This is the place for me. The crew is awesome. The atmosphere is very cozy and laid back. Sure some things are aged, part of the beauty :) I have come a few times and every time this place just amazes me. Sky gives the best scrubs. The ecuplyptus steam is great, making the steam sauna unsurpassed. The cleanliness of the facility is great too. I have been in other saunas that are just unhealthy, and moldy. This is a clean place. I really appreciate. The facility has a awesome hot sauna. It's very spacious, the arches and the room itself is wonderful and brings thoughts of old times. Buckets and cold water are provided in said saunas, which is a huge plus. The hot tub varies in temp. Sometimes it's hot or too cool, just speak up. The staff is very courteous. The sheet to wrap up in, the locker, small towel all provided in the cheap 18$ admission. Bring yourself and a big towel for when your done. Else tell a friend and come keep this place here. read more

This place is a DREAM! I went back after 10 or so years, not sure what took so long, and had a FABULOUS experience. The facility is clean and safe. I scheduled a massage, because who wouldn't at $32 for an hour. Claudia was amazing, working there over 5 years and a therapist for 23! No rainforest music, just a darn great massage. Wonderful thing to do on a Thursday night with a friend or two, or more. We're still talking about it 2 weeks alater, and have already planned a night for next month. read more

The guy on reception was nice. Bad general smell in the place & old skool but I've been to Idaho Spring - no big deal. Went in, knowing, suits were optional due to the huge sticker on window entering, wore a suit. Was in the hot tub with a friend, got yelled at by an irate working - "suits are not allowed only on couples days" (no signs stating this) - got out heading to steam rooms - yelled again again like naughty kids, that the 'bed sheet' given to us to dry off wasn't allowed in the wet room. Enough for us to leave. Told the guy on reception - thank you to him - but we were spoken to like crap & left. Avoid. The place is gross, old & some crazy ass staff - naked - yelling at you about the do's & don'ts. $10 for a scrub - great if you want to lie on a damp moulded yoga mat - no privacy - for a naked aggressive woman to 'relax you'. Interesting place... This place is really good. I was a little uneasy because of some of the posts yet it's 100% on the up and up! On mens days there are no women anywhere on site. On womens day if a man is present he would be at the front according to the massage guy that rarely happens. Men massage on mens day and women massage on womens day. It's an industial massage+steam and sauna joint. It's similiar to Nakuea sauna in Thailand minus the stairs! Parking: Behind the sauna. Cost: 15 enterance. Supply: One hand towel, one twin bed sheet and a locker! Attire: nudity...I did see one guy in swim trunks! Feel: You have to be an exibitionist on some level to feel comfortable...yet no one appears to be "checking" you out! It has a turkish bath feel like the one Matt Damon went in to in "Rounders" ! The club: Is exactly as other posters have said, You still can get cheap food and drinks! Massage: It's a steal. The massage guy calls your name and asks you to bring your sheet you use it for the bottom sheet on the massage table. He covers you with fresh hand towel. 1hour of deep massage work for $30.00 is amazing. Book the massage upon entering the club it fills up fast or call ahead (not sure if they accept this I will try it next visit) I wanted a 2 hour massage for 60.00 but only had 1 hour available! It's a great place to go to unwind and get thoroughly cleansed and relaxed. I had booked a massage ahead of time and arrived a couple hours early so that I could relax as much as possible beforehand. After checking in at the front desk I was given a quick tour of the facilities. I then made my way to the locker room and disrobed. Taking my small towel with me I entered the shower room. It had room for a number of people to sit/lay on tile benches set into the walls and around the room. Showers were against the far wall. and a Hot whirlpool spa in one corner. There were about a dozen other men, mostly in their 40s-50s lounging, showering, and soaking in the whirlpool. After a shower, I made my way into the steam room, It felt great! The eucalyptus infused steam was invigorating. After about 15 minutes, I headed out to cool off in the showers. I n addition to the normal showers, there was a huge showerhead near the whirlpool that dumped nothing but cold icy water... it felt great. Then I headed into the Hot Sauna room. It's a HUGE room compared others I've been to. And boy is it hot! On one wall, a big oven opens into the room. Don't stand in front of it unless you really want to get cooked! There are two tiers of wooden benches on the two walls away from the ovens, while still very hot, it's a lot cooler on that side of the room. There were cold water spigots and buckets spaced around the room so that you could splash yourself (or the bench, or floor) to either cool down or add moisture to the air. I spent another 15 minutes in there. Afterward I headed to the cold shower again. The Hot/Cold/Hot/Cold of the Steam room, shower, sauna, shower sequence was beginning to work wonders on my aching muscles. Next I spent some time in the hot whirlpool. This enabled the heat to really soak through the muscles and into the bones. I repeated the whole sequence again... deepening the warmth and relaxation of the muscles. It was then time for my massage, Jon used a combination of Swedish deep tissue and trigger point. It was great. He finished with a very relaxing neck/head massage followed by some reflexology foot massage. When he was done, I didn't want to get up, but another customer was waiting. I returned to the shower, steam, room, and sauna for a another refreshing round to finish off the experience before getting dressed. Overall a very relaxing and invigorating way to spend a couple hours. Don't try to spend any less time than that. As I mentioned earlier, the crowd was mostly middle-aged (as am I) and I never once felt as if there was any hint of sex, just people there to take in the baths and relax. read more

I really like this place a lot. But u can't even really relaxed any more, I have been coming to this place for a long time and it was different. Now the guy at the front desk he's not very friendly. There's a guy giving "Rubs" there not been very professional. Him and his boyfriend work there the other one is a Massage therapist but he spends a lot of the time in the Sauna trying to hook up with guys. I believe a lot of the Stuff there are horrible. I do believe this Spa is turning in to a not very family hang out. People used to take their kids. Now u can't. It's getting very bad reputation. I went to the Spa for the second time this past week. The first time, I went with my Mom and was at first uncomfortable with being nude, but that passes literally in the first 5 minutes. The vibe is so relaxed and the staff so friendly and capable, it is well worth a visit. It is hard to describe how much more you get out of a massage or reflexology once you have already relaxed in the saunas or whirlpool, there really are no words for the difference between that and driving 20 minutes to go directly into a massage. The only thing I would suggest is new paint throughout the common rooms and massage rooms. It looks like that is planned from previous posts. I respect and appreciate the history of this place and I think the spa rooms are amazing it that old World Turkish feeling (I've been several times in Istanbul), I don't think there is anything that needs to change there. But the paint colors chosen decades ago give it a run down feeling. I would recommend light and bright colors, it would do wonders for the place and drywalling the wood paneling rooms to update the entry and cantina. I am hot spring junkie and have been exploring places to steam and soak for over 20 years. I was told that Lake Steam Baths open & serving the public for 90' years--kinda cool. Do not expect a light & bright zen modern day spas environment here. The interior is definitely reminiscent of someone's grandmother's house with dated curtains, random artwork on the walls, and mismatched furniture, plastic plants. I have to be honest, it does feel a little dingy. But interior design is clearly not LSB's focus. Instead this is a very no-nonsense & functional place to unwind. There is a large room that houses the hot tub, showers, the sauna and steam room. This is also where you get the salt scrubs in the open on a yoga mat. Then there are some narrow hallways that lead to the massage rooms. I went on a Women's Monday night, and there were probably about 25 women there. Not too crowded, so you could rotate through the areas easily without having to wait for space to open up. Customer service was very friendly, and informational. My massage by Cheri was excellent! Pricing was reasonable, but compared to the amenities & interiors I've seen at other Russian bath houses, and Korean/Japanese Spas I have frequented in other cities, the value was a bit lower at Lake Steam Baths. However, I will be back to visit when I need a good detox & to relax because on that front - Lake Steam Baths succeeded. Tips/Notes: 1. Bring your beauty supplies as only shower gel is provided in the showers. No shampoo/conditioner. 2. Bring water to drink in a plastic bottle - no glass is allowed in the bath area. 3. Bring something to read if you want to take a break and cool down a bit 4. You pay for each service separately - entry, massage, scrub - so you'll need your cash or card handy during your visit. read more

The price is unbeatable. This is where a single gender gathering place where people come and relax, talk, and watching sports and sharing it with some good buddies/or friends just like they do in Russia or a typical gym/spa. It isn't a ritzy place but it is kept in clean and no-frill condition. Simple snacks are served. Come on guys, the VALUE is what you are seeking for and you will definitely find it here and the quality of massage is in par with other 4-5 stars spas and I can tell you because I do massage as well and it is done by men with excellent skills. I'll be here every time I come to Denver..what the treat. There are mostly straight men who just wanted to hang out and talk about sports and fun stuff. Not a typical gay cruise ground so don't have any funny ideas. Even though I do spot the gays once in while, they are very respectful just don't look at them in the eyes or stare at their family jewel, you'll be fine. Went their today (Sunday) around 10am. The price was just right. Yea the place is a little old, but it was ok. I enjoy places like this, but get really concerned about the cruising. There was no one there obviously cruising around for sex today. The hot tub was HOT just like was mentioned before and the steam and sauna were just right. My only wish was that there was a cold dip pool. The people seemed very friendly and I found it to be pretty clean. I will return. read more

Prepared to be at one of the least pretentious places I've ever been. My friend and I went together, and I'll be honest. I thought I'd be a lot more uncomfortable, but it wasn't crazy busy so there were a few people but just enough to comfortable for first timers. They have a steam room, sauna room, and pool that you can experience, in that order. Massage along the way, get a body scrub then start over. The only hangup is that you absolutely cannot wear your bathing suit in the pool, but you can everywhere else. I decided to go all-naturale to get the full experience. I had Cynthia for my massage, and it was one of the best massages ever, she was into actually "working" a problem area, not just relaxing you. The building is super old and not fancy at all, but I was cool with it, it reminds me of one of those stereotypical "bath houses" you'd see in some old gangster movie:) I want to take my husband on family day! Have been coming to this family-owned and run business for the past 39 years...I would describe it as "the working women's spa." That said, the whirlpool and eucylptus room are my favorites. There's also a dry heat room but since we live in Denver, which is dry enough, the eucylptus room is more of a moist heat. If you're self-conscious about your own nude body or of any others, I wouldn't come here. I prefer to go on Thurs. mornings or Mon. mornings before it gets too busy which translates to "noisy." Would also recommend Star - she's my personal favorite massage therapist. A full hour massage is quite affordable. They also have a good deli, have always enjoyed the flavored seltzer waters. read more

Since my first review just a couple of short weeks ago I've been back a few times. I had a massage which was on par with $60+ massages I've had over the years. Awesome deal! Not to mention it's always great to be able to loosen up in some heat prior to a massage to get the full benefit of the body work. I also had a scrub and salt treatment. I've lived in NYC and they have the Russian and Turkish Baths, Los Angeles has the Korean Spas (Olympic Spa was always my favorite), and we have our LSB! It is an amazing deal, and a true gem. Affordable and great. Keep up the good work ladies! Only wish us ladies could get a weekend day! Still, I do appreciate the ladies Sunday evenings and co-ed nights. The massage I had was amazing so 5 stars for that. But I guess I'm too modest to have really been able to relax there. The sign says "Birthday Suits or Swim Suits, Both Welcome" but you're looked down upon if you wish to wear your suit. I was told to strip down by one of the workers and was told I was not allowed to just wear my bottoms and not my swim suit top, that it was "all or nothing." How weird is this? Additionally, if you are more of a modest person like myself, you are only provided a small wash cloth and an awkward sheet to cover up with. Please don't misunderstand this post: I do appreciate very much that there's a place like this that exists for women to be free, open and themselves and to relax in a safe environment--if nudity is what you're into. But if you're not that into nudity then I recommend bringing your own robe or larger towel. The "regulars" laugh at people like me who feel more relaxed wearing a suit. But yet, I would never laugh at them for letting it all hang out. Live and let live, regulars...let people wear their suits if they want without judgement. Not sure I'd go back knowing what I know. Horrible experience. What was supposed to be a $32 massage ended up being $49. They gave me a key to a locker, a sheet and a small towel. The woman who handed me this stuff asked if I was new there and I said I was. The lock didn't work on the locker so, after disrobing and covering up with the sheet, I got dressed and went back to get a key for a locker that would hopefully work this time. Disrobed again and took my sheet and sat on a bench in the locker to await the massage therapist. Turns out the sheet is the one she will be using on the massage table. So, while she makes up the table, I stand their naked. I told her I wasn't going to use the steam bath, that hanging out with a bunch of naked women isn't my thing. At some point, among the three people who I talked to, any one of them could have said, hey, you are getting charged a cover charge just for walking in the door so your plain vanilla massage is going to cost a whole lot more than you think it is. The man at the front acted like some old pervert who got a real thrill by ripping me off. NEVER AGAIN. There are better massages, with private rooms where you can keep your stuff, and have the massage table made before you go in. Ridiculous. Don't go there. read more

I have been going here for 20 years. I have enjoyed it in the past. However, in the past few years, the management has really gone downhill. Now they require users to submit a drivers license or keys just to get in . This is a result of some theft, which could have been prevented if the front desk was continually manned. Half the time I go, there is no one at the front desk. Lots of times I call for an appointment, they do not answer the phone. Also , about 90% of the men's days are all gay people. Management acts like they do not even know this. It is completely ridiculous. They have ' family facility' signs all over the place. Just stupid. Also, the masseurs use their forearms in massages ( to save their hands'). This is not a massage. This is just pressure They really need to re- imagine how they run this place. Replace lots of the masseurs. Get new blood and new energy. The recent paint jobs are better than before- this is good. read more

Today was the straw that broke me. I have enjoyed Lake Steam Baths for a number of years for what it is. A no frills oasis of tranquility for the 2-3 hours that I can have to myself every couple of weeks. Today started out fine, nice steam, relaxing hot tub and quiet sitting area. James, new LMT, came to get me for my hour massage. Escorted me to a room I had never been to before that was on the front/street side of the building and VERY noisy. Since I don't get to have a massage every day, I look forward to a quiet/relaxing/tranquil hour for my massage. After about 3-4 minutes I realized that wasn't to be today, the room was like having a massage table set up in the middle of Colfax. I told James I was sorry, this wasn't going to work and proceeded to leave. He told me he was sorry, this was the room he had been assigned and nothing he was able to do. As I was walking back to the locker room another LMT, Dana, saw me in the hall, asked what was wrong and when I told him he said he was sorry, he couldn't do an hour but he did have a half hour available that he could work on my lower back if I would like. He did a fantastic job for the half hour he had available and "saved" my visit. So, all is well now until I go to leave. When I get to the front desk Steve (desk clerk) proceeds to chew me out for "cheating" James out of an hour session, screwing up his schedule and besides, he told me, "nobody but you has ever complained about the noise in that room before". He continued "in the future you need to come to me to make any changes to the schedule and not just run around and find your own solution". I have observed Steve in the past lecturing other clients about what they were doing wrong. He could have just said "thank you for bringing that to my attention" or "I'll take care of that" but he always chooses to blame the client for the hot tube being too hot/cold or the steam room not having any steam. In the past I had just let it pass thinking he was having a bad day. No more, there are other businesses in the area that actually care about their clients and my business. read more

The reason to go here is the massage: $32/hour and the therapist was great. The spa entry is $18 and the salt scrub was $10. I was not impressed by the spa facilities. There is only one (normal size) whirlpool and then dry and wet saunas. There are also shower stalls and benches in the same room as the whirlpool. I enjoyed the salt scrub, a bargain for the price. You need to seek the lady out who does it and pay her cash. On the day I went, it was an elderly woman. I have sensitive screen and unfortunately had several red scratches from the scrub, which was performed with a cheap acrylic glove that's used on everyone. Everyone must be naked in the spa room. The facility didn't strike me as gross or unclean. I did not try the deli. I would go back for the massage if looking for something in the neighborhood. Otherwise I think it's worth it to travel farther and pay $20ish more to go to Havana Spa (Korean style) in Aurora. read more
