I like to write a review on Lake Street Nails Bar. I have been going to this salon more than 10 years since the time Yen was the owner. I don't remember her last name. I always thought she was a very good business woman and her salon was always busy. Yen sold the business not too long ago, may be 2 years ago, to Heilo (pronounced Hay-lo). I kept on going to the same salon. At first, it was very quiet and they were not busy and I prayed for them to get busy and their business pick up. So their business actually did pick up and they got busy. Now, i experienced something different in them. They differentiate between their clients based on the amount of tip they give. I am on social security and can not afford to pay as much as others pay. Others pay, 15, 20, and 25 dollars. But I can not afford that much. I am not cheap but can not afford to put that much tip. So the maximum I have tipped has been 7 or may be 10 dollars if I get 2 services. Recently, I noticed that they don't give me a good service. For instance, last time I had gel manicure done and they skipped hand message which is part of the service and she went to do somebody else's. And I told her (Julie) you did not message my hand ands she said I am sorry and Heilo is going to do it fo you. And when Heilo came to do it, she was massaging my hand with anger. The other time I was having pedicure done, Julie, again, skipped the part with hot stone and hot towel. And these are all because I don't tip much or a whole lot. Tipping is optional and not mandatory. Besides I cany not afford it and not because I am cheap. The previous owner, Yen, did not even expect me to tip her and she always did a good job for me regardless of how much I tipped her. Yen was a true business woman and knew how to run and manage business, not the new owner, Heilo. What I am hoping to achieve by writing this review is that those client of hers that already going to her salon or tip them a lot, not to tip them much or for those who maybe going there in the future, not to go there and avoid her business because she is money first and then customer service. I am planning to go to Better Business Bureau too and file a complaint against their business that they did not provide me with a good service because I tip low or little. read more

Halo does an amazing job. Took me in immediately as a walk in. I was visiting from out of town. I am a retired nail tech (30 years) in the business so I am very picky. Went yesterday to get my nails done with my friend. The ladies at the salon are nice and seem to care. We showed different pictures and picked one design. The lady (short hair) said it will look really pretty, and to believe her because she's doing a very great job. They indeed tried their best, spent more time than expected because there were some issues to fix. Unfortunately, the results are not great... it looks like they are lacking skills when you ask for something more "sophisticated". Ask for an acrylic extension, and here are the results. Did not cut my nails before, and the extension is clearly showing. I'm very disappointed with the nails, same goes for my friend. I'm trying now to find another salon to fix that. read more

Did an ombré white to pink nails for my wedding! Very beautiful! Halo is very detail-oriented and passionate about her work! Second picture of my right thumb is of a line I noticed during the placement of the "powder acrylic" portion (I don't know technical terms for nails) - I told her when it was fixable and asked if that line will disappear later in the process. She said it would, but it didn't. She tried to fix it by putting another layer of nail polish on to help smooth out the line, but it was still there. In the end, it's not super noticeable to most people so it's not a big deal - I just wish it was fixed when I first brought it up! Got my nails ready for Vegas and really love how they turned out!! I requested acrylic oval shaped nails with black French tips and designs on my ring and middle fingers for $69 + tip. The design inspiration originated from Pinterest, and I appreciate that my stylist was able to replicate it! Not only that, but my stylist took great care of me, gently filing my nails to perfection and asking periodically if they look good. She was so kind (I wish I caught her name!) as well as the other ladies in the shop. I went with my friends and their nails were looking cute, too. Highly recommend this nail salon to anyone near Kirkland! Definitely coming back again to do my nails here again! Also, street parking can be stressful around this area. I USED TO LOVE IT HERE! Key phrase: "used to". I was a regular for dip manicures usually with tips. I started going to Yen here around 10 years ago and things only improved when her daughter Gloria stepped in. I also had another favorite tech Sophia. Honestly couldn't go wrong. You needed to make an appointment because they were so popular and the place is relatively small, but usually could get in same day or the day after. A while back I had a friend (who was also a regular) call and tell me all about how the place was sold under certain pretexts that were violated - main one being that the new owners would keep the remaining staff. Incredibly hurtful to Gloria and Yen who honestly cared about their customer base and employees. Based on that alone I immediately took down my 5 star review and now refuse to go back, but from what I've heard it's not worth it under the new management. I've started going to Bayside nails right around the corner on Central, and while it's definitely not the same, pricing is similar and they've done a decent job each time I've gone in. I'm still shopping around for my next place - my favorite has been La Na Nail Lounge but they're a bit pricy to justify as a go-to spot (free drinks & the cleanest place I've been to may make it worth it though). I'm going to try LeVue at Kirkland Urban next. read more

Last month I was in search for a new nail salon as my previous salon was bought out. I live a couple blocks from Lake St. nails, and decided to give them a try. I met Halo (spelling) and Nancy, and they welcomed me with open arms. I got a mani-shellac and a regular pedi. I enjoyed my relaxing time there. And I am very impressed with the quality of their work! I came back this afternoon for another manicure after one whole month, and my shellac stayed on this entire time. No chips or peeling! I run a catering business on the side, so I am fairly rough on my hands, so this says a lot about their work! This afternoon I saw Julie, and she also did a magnificent job! I love how meticulous she is about trimming my cuticles and applying an even amount of polish.
