I paid about 40% more for a tree, a one inch caliper hornbeam in a plastic pot. The tree had a little bit of leaf burn on its new growth, but I chalked that up to being root bound in a pot, so I purchased the tree. I was landscape contractor for years, I have planted hundreds of trees so I planted this tree giving it the best possible chance for survival. With regular watering the leaf burn continued to spread, even though I held off on fertilizing the tree, until it showed signs of some growth so I wouldn't burn it or shock it. Last week I pulled it out of the ground because it was completely dead, when I did there was zero root development. Anyway, I know from experience that sometimes new plants just die but when I was running a landscape construction I warranted every plant I ever sold to a customer. If a plant died within the first year, I would replace it. I could usually bring these plants back to the vendor and exchange them for a new one, but those were real nurseries like Gurneys or Molbaks. I called this nursery and explained what I've written above and they told me they couldn't help me, I even asked if they would just give me another tree and they declined. We live in a different world, where accountability and responsibility are foreign to a lot of people. I won't be going back to Urban And garden.

Renate Ruby, shop owner, is basically a curator of craft. She travels to the factories of the furniture lines she represents, for example, so she speaks from the perspective of someone who has really dug in deep to get the know her products from the inside out. Warning: only get her started on the properties of quality linen if you are prepared! That girl knows her stuff. She's scouts out things like small-batch wallpapers and dishware that are not readily available. So that's cool. The other thing I notice about the shop, well check the hours before you drop in, is that there are occasional events that bring people I have never met together, Once, there was a salon-like gathering and the presentation was on perfume. Again, small-batch, hand-crafted product. Because we live in a world that increasingly feels mass-produced (maybe it's my reaction to the myriad of cranes and skyscrapers being build in this SeaTown), it's important to find and share these gems. Its a intangible talent to make beauty tangible. To create and transform a space. You walk in here, and everything is unique, and its placed in such a way that makes you see an already one-of-a-kind item, differently. Its not just a furniture store for the reclaimed and upcycled, Kirk Albert has some really almost revolutionary transformations going on, like turning a vintage bowling alley into a long, gorgeous communal table by adding enormous, industrial-type legs. Turning old reclaimed wood into a one of a kind console by by breathing new life into it with a balanced set of Frankenstein shop legs. He incorporates found items like a giant ten foot long hanging hammer (take that, boring home office!) to a humorously disturbing John Basquiat meets Frances Bacon framed 3-D tormented man, to possibly hang over your VIctorian fireplace. Well curated, well stocked, and put together with a great eye, this is a nice buttoned up and traditional juxtaposition to the more modern, industrial, dust-bowl sideshow inspired Kirk Albert next door. What a fun place to walk around, browse and get inspired! In particular, they have great mirrors and unique ornate frames here, that are in really excellent condition. With some trepidation, we ordered over 1,000 pounds of gravel in 22 bags. We're seniors and we needed the gravel delivered as close to the landscape area where it would be placed, as was possible. This required navigating a narrow driveway, while carefully avoiding ornate brickwork, mature tree branches and various shrubs and perennials. Not only did Lowe's send our delivery driver, Jerry, equipped with a forklift, uniquely engineered to manage difficult terrain and tight spaces, but Jerry was perhaps the most capable, skillful, caring and kind delivery person I've ever encountered. He took the time to understand exactly what we needed, and then skillfully fulfilled our hoped for objective, doing so with remarkable care. Waited over 39 minutes in the wood cutting area at 1 PM on a Saturday with zero assistance…read more Multiple employees walked by, and the customer ahead of me pressed the help button at least five times--no response. If the store advertises wood cutting, someone should actually be available to do it. Otherwise, don't waste customers' time with a help button that clearly does nothing. Called the store and also talked to customer service. ‍

I called several times and left voicemails requesting a call back from a manager, but no response. Finally I filed a dispute to the original purchase with my cc company...in good faith, only disputing the amount in excess of the IKEA price (regardless that the bookshelf I bought wasn't even brand new). It appears the collection had no problems in their responsiveness to the credit card company defending the charge, but can't return my phone call to resolve the issue. I will either work with my c company for resolution, or will file charges for fraudulent misrepresentation of a product. This place fraudulently represents their furniture to upsell it, but beware you could probably go to ikea and find it much cheaper.
