My family and I have been occasionally going here for many years. The last couple times the experience has not been good. My in laws and family were up from down south to take me out for my 45th birthday and we had reservations. It took so long to get our food and we barely saw the waiter. When we got our food, everything was so burnt and dry. The duck my mother in law and I received was burnt/dry and absolutely horrible. My children's chicken fingers were even burnt. They also came back 30 minutes after order to tell us one of the entrees was sold out. I understand the place was packed to full capacity and most likely for delay and for burnt food and staff being overwhelmed. However, when you are paying for an expensive meal on a special occasion.... Additionally, I could not talk to waiter and just get bill after hours being establishment. I went to get manager and he was at bar in front. He gave me bill and I had to tell him that they were still charging us for item that was sold out. It took another 30 minutes to correct. I called the next day to talk to manager about frustrations and they stated they would send gift card that I never received. Food is always good, if a little pricey. Today hubby had duckling with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Duck was good, potatoes nondescript and broccoli could have used some butter and seasoning, maybe even a little garlic. I had lobster ravioli which were large and good also...I would have preferred a light white wine or butter sauce to enhance the lobster flavor rather than the heavy red sauce that was served with an extra portion....again that's just two of us:) others may prefer as served. Dinner visit during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week (Fall 2016). I don't know what it's like normally, but on this particular night parking was an issue. I finally made a spot on a side street just up from the restaurant. The interior was very cozy and home-like, it was dark so we didn't get to enjoy the view of the lake....will definitely have to go back in the daylight hours. Joanne, our server, was awesome! She remembered each and every one of our names, that is how she dealt with doing separate checks, and she made a point of using our names as she brought us our drinks and dishes. It was an extremely nice touch, something that you do not find.... well, I guess anywhere else now that I think about it .... unless you're a regular, but of course that doesn't count. My husband took me here for a birthday dinner. Made reservations for 7 pm. Arrived at 7 and told that our table was occupied and it would be 10 to 15 minutes. There were several empty tables both inside and outside at the time. After 30 minutes, we were still waiting. 2 others had been seated before us that arrived AFTER us and had reservations after our time. When we asked if our table was ready, we were told that it wasn't but we could sit outside as there was a table there. Not the best table but we were finally seated. Food was very good and our waitress was attentive. Definitely a place for "regulars" as those were the ones that got preference in seating. Hardly anyone there was under the age of 70. It's more for the octogenarian crowd that are friends of the owners. read more

We decided to have our wedding ceremony and reception there. We are regulars there however and we just love it. Its beautiful. Right on the lake. First I have to say the wait staff is phenomenal. They made our special day perfect. Travis, Liz and Troy were amazing. The food was so delicious it should be illegal. We had 50 people and not one complaint. My sister and I went there for dinner one Friday Evening. It was about 5:30 which we figured was a great time to go. My sister cannot stand too long due to her condition and for some reason we waited forever to be seated, I finally had to track the hostess down! I would've given 5 stars if it wasn't for that and the fact that our check took forever when we were ready to leave. OIY!!! The food, however was great. The salad was just ok. A few months ago I won a gift certificate to the Lake View House at a fundraiser. The crowd groaned in envy that I had won the best prize. I had never heard of this place, but apparently it was considered near legendary in and around Newburgh. WELL NOW I KNOW WHY THEY WERE JEALOUS!! Lake View House is immaculate and tastefully decorated - the service couldn't have been more friendly and helpful without being "invasive." The food - was terrific: fresh, prepared as requested and of the highest quality. It's not the cheapest place to dine - but I do believe the prices are very fair for the quality and atmosphere. These people really do want you to be happy with your experience there (we had a mix-up with reservations, and the OWNER took the time to make sure our first time at Lake View House was perfect by getting us a table on "the porch" where we got to see the sunset at the end of our meal. I got to see those King Crab Legs -- OMG!!! I have NEVER seen such a plateful! For dessert I had a (homemade, yes) plum cake - TO DIE FOR. And you MUST order an Orange Lake Breeze! I'm telling everyone I know about this place - it's one of those gems that don't HAVE to advertise because they have so much word-of-mouth business. Our waiter was Rose, and she was a delight. I've been told for many years how great this place is. And great is an understatement!!! The service was exceptional and the food better and better as the night went on. The fresh bread and calimari. My girlfriend said her pumpkin and shrimp ravioli was the best she's ever had. I had the smoked chicken toscana and there aren't any words that can do it any justice. Awesome bar. Excellent food - we are local and you will not go wrong with the Calamari. They do steak here very well. They always have Oysters. Quaint home-y feeling. Was a bit smushed in the dining room. A lot of selection and specials, but a clue to anyone going out to eat is that a restaurant should specialize in one main type of food, so if you start seeing too many ethnic dishes or influences this could be a warning to the food to come. The bread was good (maybe homemade? or from a good bakery), the salad ok, at least it wasn't iceberg lettuce, and the house dressing good. My duck was tough and the fruity sauce a bit odd. My wife's red snapper was better, but nothing great. Portions were fair, maybe just a tad much (another warning sign. Too much food may not be a good thing). Dessert was disappointing, esp. since they are all homemade I was expecting something special. A warm pecan chocolate brownie, should have been called pecans with some fudge sauce. Overall, for the quality of the food, it was overpriced, but the location, setting, and service were good. Ok. I have been here a few times and the food is always pretty good. After this last experience I will never go again and I will advise everyone I know to pass on this. Here's the story. Brought 4 out to dinner for son's graduation dinner. Ordered the calamari and escargot. The calamari was hands down the best I have had. Perfect. The escargot was mediocre at best. Go to Ship Lantern Inn for this. Then as all of us were empty of beverages, the waitress came back for dinner orders. Son orders Alaskan King Crab dinner (market price) and we order our meals. All good after we reminded the waitress we need drinks. She brings drinks back and loudly proclaims the crab dinner is $69.95 and wanted to make sure I still wanted to order this. WHAT?!!!?? At what "nice" restaurant would this ever be acceptable? There is so much a better way to bring this to someone's attention then to be rude and embarrassing. Hey management think about this, train your people on etiquette. You never know who you're talking to, who they will share their experience with and what they can afford. Price was not the issue, the incompetence of the staff was. There are a few local spots with better food and exceptionally better service and atmosphere than here in this area. read more

We wanted to love it but it fell way short of expectations. Worst place I've been to in awhile. The drinks were horrible ( ordered a peach martini & white sangria and received brandy in each). The salads were awful did not eat. I went for restaurant week and the lunch choices were really nice. The portion sizes were large and they were all delicious.

Took my family here to celebrate my mothers birthday. What a mistake. Took half an hour after our reservation to be seated, which should have been a sign to make a run for it, but I was dumb. Service was slow and terrible. The waitress left a bottle of champagne on a table instead of in a bucket of ice, and we had to refill our own glasses since she rarely checked on us. Once we were finally able to order, we waited nearly three hours for our meals. When the food finally arrived, half was burned or tasteless, and we informed the waitress and had them taken away. Then they bring a complimentary dessert to apologize, when I had specifically asked for no dessert and the check since I was desperate to leave. They informed me at the end that the chef and a bunch of staff had quit, which would have been good information to have before this ordeal began so I could have gone elsewhere and not ruined the night. Then they charged me full boat, even for the meals we hadn't eaten. This was my absolute LAST time coming here. I was embarrassed in front of my entire family, and a beautiful memory ruined. read more

Went there unwillingly for Mothers Day 5/13/18. We went at 12:30 (Lunch time) and the Entrée dinner menu came out. Not lunch prices. I order Veal rolled up with not sure what was in it for $30. The veal was rubbery and had no taste. My Wife had Lobster Ravioli which smelled like yack and tasted just as bad. There were some people at the table that were satisfied with the Duck and Rack of Lamb that was like $40. Kids 4 slices off thin pizza was $10. The lake view and place was pretty cool but the food sucked for the money. May be worth going there for a drink or two looking over the lake but don't go there for dinner. read more

We really enjoyed our dinner. This restaurant is a solid 4 1/2 stars. Our waiter Travis was one of the best waiters we have ever had. He was truly great! We visited on Easter, and for a holiday, everything was perfect - not rushed and perfectly timed. I had the smoked filet mignon as an appetizer, and it was spectacular ... I'm not sure if they have it on the regular menu, but it is something that I would go out of my way to have again. We will be back in the summer when you can dine outside ... Yeah, looking back, I could have asked for another table, but why would you do that to someone?????? the entire time we were there several of the "prime" tables with a view sate empty. ok, enough about the table. I went to the Lake View House for Easter dinner with a group of 6. The restaurant is in a historic building looking out over Lake Orange. The building is charming with a tin ceiling,old wooden bar and prints of old postcards from Lake Orange on the walls. We enjoyed watching the sunset over the lake as we ate. Orange Lake was quite the tourist attraction back in the late 19th century and even included an amusement park. The restaurant had a special menu for Easter with dishes ranging from lamb, beef, pork, veal, and fish. I was surprised not to see a meatless or fishless entree option on the menu, but the server gave it to me when I asked. They were also out of the lamb, which was disappointing to many at our table. I had the tortellini dish that wasn't listed on the menu which was acceptable, but nothing special. E had the chicken florentine, which he said was the best he has ever had. The dishes came with salad with unique dressing options...including honey poppy...which was delicious and a starch choice of rice, baked potato etc. They a wide array of desserts including key lime pie, apple crisp, homemade brownie sundae, kahlua cheesecake, bread pudding and mango sorbet. The mango sorbet was fantastic and a very large portion. I would definitely return to the Lake View House in the future. Service was excellent, the ambiance and view of the lake was great and the food was pretty good. read more
