Showed up with no reservations in a Friday nite. Seated immediately but porch area overlooking lake was booked for the night. Appetizers were expansive and we went with bacon and soup of the day. Both were excellent. Sauce with bacon slab had just the right kick. Salads were the only sub par item of the meal. Too much dressing soaked the variety of leaf lettuce and spoiled the presentation. Wife had shrimp special and it was excellent. Extra large shrimp in a great sauce. One of the best steaks ever. Ordered with butter truffle sauce. Deserts mud pie and brownie were huge. Great laughs when trying to slice chocolate crust on mud pie and it flew across table. Service was quick and waiter Frank was a gem. Gave great advice and was in target with all of them. Sadly our first impression was of an awful hostess. Unpleasant and wasn't able to seat us probably. We drove 1.5 hrs to get there and had a reservation. We were the first people there. Now the atmosphere was nice we sat outside. The drinks and appetizers were very good. We had oysters and escargot. Entrees were ok. The short ribs were excellent. The veal special was ok. The duck was almost inedible it was so overcooked. Desserts were very good. Bread pudding and creamcicle pie. Our waitress and bus boy were great. Wow! My husband & I stopped here at 530 to get a bite. Told no room on patio. Its now 50 minutes later and there is still only 5 of at least 10 tables used. No offer of what other options there are. The inside was empty. Asked if i can order something to eat at the bar, Tori said if "X" isn't busy. There were TWO men sitting at the bar! Walked down by water of their property and there was a trap with 3 sparrows stuck & 1 dead one. We opened it 2 flew away 3rd one needed to cool down set him in water near rocks for cover if needed. Hidden out alongside Orange Lake in the town of Newburgh is a lovely restaurant called the Lake VIew House. Resting right on and overlooking the lake, the restaurant has been around for a very long time, and has a very loyal clientele who cram into the restaurant for lunch and dinner all week long. As we live less than a mile away from the place, when we moved to Newburgh a year ago, it became the first restaurant we wanted to check out due to its wonderful location and close proximity to our home. Well, we weren't disappointed. Seated in the main dining room overlooking the lake (right at sundown I might add), we and our guests treated ourselves to some delicious calamari, oysters, and steamed clams in a garlic & wine broth, all of which were delicious. For main dishes, we had various things off the regular menu as well as specials, like the Carribean Steak & Seafood dish, which included some succulent scallops, a nice piece of seasoned & grilled steak, and pumpkin ravioli in a curry cream sauce; wonderful fish stuffed with shrimp & crab, veal medallions in a gorgeous roasted pepper sauce, and a great red snapper special. The bread was also quite tasty, and great for sopping up the delicious broth from the clam appetizer. For dessert, there is always a ridiculous selection of tasty treats, but kudos to the key lime pie, cheesecake, and anything having chocolate! There's a nice little bar just off the main dining room as well, but be warned, it gets pretty crowded, especially on the weekends, and if there's one minor complaint, it's that on occasion your drinks can take a few extra minutes to come back from the bar. Otherwise, Lake VIew House is a lovely place in a lovely setting serving high quality food. A varied menu and daily specials, highlighted by plenty of fresh seafood, is always on display. Went here just last night with my family, and it was a mixed bag to say the least. The ambience of this place is fantastic, however once that wears off the restaurant doesn't deliver. The place is right on Orange Lake with a great view of it, and thats what hits you when you go into the dining room. The owner's wife seated us, who was very nice. The menu wasn't cheap, but it had some very interesting things on it that got me excited. Paul S. from American Chopper eventually sat down in the room over from us which was kinda cool, although it wasn't exactly the first time we've seen him around. The service was pretentious, a bit rushed considering they weren't near capacity, and got worse later on (more on that soon). Very few people up here go to places looking for a pretentiousness in my experience, its very odd that so many restaurants up here feel the need to act that way; it just detracts from the experience unless you're one of the characters from the movie "American Psycho". My mom got the pri-fix menu, my dad got off the menu, I got off the specials, and my brother got the chicken fingers (he's practically a connoseur of them now). I had a basil and garlic dressing for my salad which did not mesh well at all, as did my dad's gorgonzola and balsamic vinegar dressing. My mom's french onion soup had a nice blend of cheeses, but it was way overspiced which supressed the flavor of the onions. My dad had the stuffed prok for a main which was ok, I didn't like it as it was lacking in flavor and a small portion. However, my mom seemed to enjoy her chicken florentine, even though it had way too much spinach relative to the rest of the dish. My brother did not like his chicken fingers, as they were pretty devoid of flavor. My dish was a scallops, lobster, and shrimp raviloi in a vodka sauce with green onions and mushrooms. Sounds great, right? Not so fast. The vodka sauce was good, and the raviloi was obviously homemade, but there was a great inconsistency in the contents. There was very little shrimp, the contents were not blended well enough, and there was a lot of filler. There were also not enough ravioli, as almost half the dish was mushrooms. I only saw two pieces of the onion as well, and the overall flavor of the dish was just ok, but kinda bland. My mom got a dessert as part of her dish but didn't want anything, so we shared an apple pie which didn't have enough apple, was very dry and was even weak in cinnamon flavor. So as you can see there was a fairly consistent trend of imbalancing the ingredients and unflavoring here, but everything was still edible and the view was very nice, so this would've been two stars. However, my parents came here partially because they had an entertainment card which entitled them to buy one get one free for entrees off the regular menu, which we'd used in the past without any problem. However, apparently that offer isn't valid if anyone at the table orders from the pri-fix menu. Thus, even though my dad and I would've been eligible if we had come alone, because my mom got the pri-fix we couldn't do it. The logic is stupid, but ultimately its not the end of the world as we could obviously take care of the $20 difference. What was a big deal was that this pretentious idiot chose to be a dick about it. We had a valid question we were asking, and he talked to us like we were children. I wished we would've gotten the owners' wife, if for no other reason than to screw this asshole. My dad didn't wanna make a big deal about it because thats just how he felt the guy "was", which I do agree with, and instead we left and won't be back. Overall a mediocre restaurant with a nice view, but there is no excuse for a server to be rude like this idiot was. read more

Had a nice dinner here. I had the Alaskan king crab legs. Although the sides (rice pilaf and broccoli) were bland, the crab made up for it. It was fresh and very tasty. My husband had the filet mignon and lobster tail meal. The filet was perfectly cooked as ordered. The lobster was not bad - a huge tail, very meaty and fresh, but slightly overdone. The mashed potatoes that accompanied this meal were delicious. For dessert we shared the gourmet Tia Maria KitKat brownie with vanilla ice cream. This was a decadent, warm brownie with chocolate fudge sauce atop. But it would have been better without the KitKat topping - the wafer pieces were like pieces of cardboard. When visiting my brother and his wife we decided to visit the Lakeview as they had said it was very good and the views spectacular. 6 of us went to dinner and we sat in a room that overlooked the lake. Outside seating was not available but we enjoyed the view all the same. Liz was our waitress and was really attentive even with 4 tables. Mr brother had oysters on the half shell and his son escargot as appetizers and said they were great. Dinners all come with a nice salad and great warm bread. We all had various types of meals and everyone enjoyed their entrees. I had the short ribs as did my brother. Wife had a nice scrimp dish, sister in law had a steak , nephew the veal special and his girlfriend a pasta dish. We split several desserts as they were huge! The drink prices for cocktails and wine were reasonable and of good size. But here is where they lost a star. The soft drinks and iced tea were sold by the glass and every refill you were charged for separately. Our waitress did not mention this to us and by the time we were done my nephews coke was $9 and my ice tea $5. I think she should have told us that before refilling our glasses. We had our brother's rehearsal dinner at the Lakeview House. We were a party of 35 people and I made the reservation in advance. Our waiters were Frank and a woman, Kathy might be her name (?) and they were amazing! They were fast with taking orders and getting everyone situated. We had two more people come last minute and the staff was quick to respond with chairs and flatware. The food was delicious and the portions were great. I asked that the entrees and desserts be served quicker because the night was getting along and some of our guests had a long drive home. The kitchen was quick and precise. Just passing through at dinner time and wanted a nice break from driving. I have dairy allergy and often struggle with menu items except when a restaurant cooks to order, works with quality ingredients and actually knows how to make food taste good without butter. Lake View House met all my needs with flying colors. Had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. Soup of the day also dairy free and wonderful. My husband had the ribs for appetizer which were wonderful, but too much for one person (sadly they did have dairy). As an entree he had the pork chop special which was also awesome. Entrees came with vegetable of the day and potato or rice. They also offered a nice list of wines by the glass, as we limited to just one since we were driving. I already recommended to friends and would to return in the spring or summer when they will be open for lunch. In November no view of the lake at dinner, but the place was charming just the same. read more

Second time here, first review. Nice ambience, good view of the lake if you sit near the large wall window. Parking was easy, no traffic getting there, service was good, we like the salad, steak was fine, but the Sichuan pasta was very spicy. They state that in the menu though, so order at your own risk. We really enjoyed our dinner. The sunset was beautiful. The restaurant was lovely. The food was delicious. Troy, our server, was probably one of the best waiters we've ever had. He was attentive without being overbearing. His description of the food made it sound delicious but was very accurate in terms of directing us towards the food that appealed to us and away from food that would not have worked as well. The oysters Rockefeller were perfect for my taste -- lots of spinach and Parmesan that complemented the oysters. The special pork osso bucco was tender. The vegetables were satisfying and tasted like a fall day. My husband enjoyed his steamed clams, delicious broth, warm bread to dip and his main course of their signature duck. We highly recommend this wonderful restaurant for it's delicious food and excellent service. read more

Her presence so irritated them. where were they 911? Siting home watching TV, probably . Great bartender that makes excellent manhattans(Stewie) !! And an amazing server Troy , that gave us suggestions, kept our glasses full, and made SURE we had a great experience. My family and I have been occasionally going here for many years. The last couple times the experience has not been good. My in laws and family were up from down south to take me out for my 45th birthday and we had reservations. It took so long to get our food and we barely saw the waiter. When we got our food, everything was so burnt and dry. The duck my mother in law and I received was burnt/dry and absolutely horrible. My children's chicken fingers were even burnt. They also came back 30 minutes after order to tell us one of the entrees was sold out. I understand the place was packed to full capacity and most likely for delay and for burnt food and staff being overwhelmed. However, when you are paying for an expensive meal on a special occasion.... Additionally, I could not talk to waiter and just get bill after hours being establishment. I went to get manager and he was at bar in front. He gave me bill and I had to tell him that they were still charging us for item that was sold out. It took another 30 minutes to correct. I called the next day to talk to manager about frustrations and they stated they would send gift card that I never received. Again, used to be great place prior to our recent experiences!!! read more

Dinner visit during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week (Fall 2016). I don't know what it's like normally, but on this particular night parking was an issue. I finally made a spot on a side street just up from the restaurant. The interior was very cozy and home-like, it was dark so we didn't get to enjoy the view of the lake....will definitely have to go back in the daylight hours. Joanne, our server, was awesome! She remembered each and every one of our names, that is how she dealt with doing separate checks, and she made a point of using our names as she brought us our drinks and dishes. It was an extremely nice touch, something that you do not find.... well, I guess anywhere else now that I think about it .... unless you're a regular, but of course that doesn't count. Food is always good, if a little pricey. Today hubby had duckling with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Duck was good, potatoes nondescript and broccoli could have used some butter and seasoning, maybe even a little garlic. I had lobster ravioli which were large and good also...I would have preferred a light white wine or butter sauce to enhance the lobster flavor rather than the heavy red sauce that was served with an extra portion....again that's just two of us:) others may prefer as served. My husband and I went to the Lakeview House Restaurant for dinner last weekend. We had not been there in a year. I was shocked at the transformation in the year we'd been away. The portions were extremely small, the prices were awfully inflated! I ordered salmon, which I always order out. This clearly was Not Fresh. By the time I saw my waiter again he was bringing the check. He saw that I ate none of it. I told him it did not taste good at all. He disappeared again, returned ten minutes later and said the chef & cooks sampled my unused portion and said it "tasted fine to them." My husband took me here for a birthday dinner. Made reservations for 7 pm. Arrived at 7 and told that our table was occupied and it would be 10 to 15 minutes. There were several empty tables both inside and outside at the time. After 30 minutes, we were still waiting. 2 others had been seated before us that arrived AFTER us and had reservations after our time. When we asked if our table was ready, we were told that it wasn't but we could sit outside as there was a table there. Not the best table but we were finally seated. Food was very good and our waitress was attentive. Definitely a place for "regulars" as those were the ones that got preference in seating. Hardly anyone there was under the age of 70.
