I had cataract surgery last March which corrected my distance vision. The downside is that I now require readers. In addition, for my part-time job, I work on a computer in a public place so I need bi-focals. Unfortunately, I lost one of the lenses and the frames are damaged. It took 2 weeks to get an appointment. I was there early for my time. I filled out some paperwork and was ready to go when Dr Brook Vastis called me in. We talked about my transition to her practice and my vision needs. Mainly to get an exam to provide to my PCP, replacement bi-focal lenses and frames. The office environment is professional and functional. The Reception process was smooth and easy. While I was waiting I noticed there were two ladies that were talking to patients about their frame selections. They have a lot of premium choices, Maui Jim, Lilly Pulitzer, State Optical, Barton Perreira, Lafont of Paris,Ernia O of Barcelona, Silhouette, Ovo Optics, Modo, Morel and Kate Spade to name a few. I met with a lady named Jessie to talk about selecting frames and lenses and completing my order. She was very professional, friendly and helpful. I was pleased my insurance covered a large percentage of the overall costs. While changing medical providers can sometimes be anxious and stressful, this was not one of them.

That's not only false--it's a deflection from the real issue: I paid for new designer frames and was given used/demo ones from your display wall. I wasn't even provided the proper designer case they normally come with, just a generic one that didn't fit properly. That is not acceptable, and it certainly isn't ethical. You claim to have searched your patient database but couldn't verify me--yet somehow you sent me a private message on Yelp with direct contact info. That doesn't align. You also claim I would have responded if I were a real patient. I did not respond because I already attempted to contact your office directly before ever posting a review, and I was ignored. Only to put me in trial contacts fit for Astigmatism and THEY HURT MY EYES. Clearly meaning I do not have astigmatism. LIES LIES and more LIES. So what should have been a $15 visit ended up being a $140 visit because they decided to code the charges as if I have astigmatism so they could say "look we put him in the fancy contact lenses, he just didnt like them." Oh and to top it all off, the script they gave me when I left was incomplete so when i went to order contacts at Costco a week later, they wouldnt complete the order because there was missing information. And doctors wonder why no one trusts them anymore after Covid...this is why!! Here's the issues: 1) Off-putting and excessive security for an optometrist office, 2) Electronic Health Records system questionnaire that doesn't value the patient's time, 3) Incompetent office staff (scheduling appointments within insurance parameters). There are other optometrist offices that provide better customer service. For more specifics: To start, greeting clients with a locked door. I know that it is the 21st century. Certain neighborhoods can be rough. Is Blakeney or Weddington a high crime area? I don't think so. So, why is it necessary to have everything but a retinal scan to get into the office space? So you had someone come in and grab some frames - once (Oakley frames cost about $15/pair to manufacture, you may pay $100/pair). Stop treating the vast majority of people as if they are going to repeatedly violate the security of your business. Between your profit margins and your insurance, you can handle the shrink. Next, let's address the Electronic Health Records system (EHR) that is designed to consume mass quantities of patient time asking questions that are sometimes patently ridiculous. Men cannot get pregnant, this is basic biology. In a digitally active online form in the 21st century, why after acknowledging that I am a man would a form ask me if I'm pregnant (this is a "sex" question, not a "gender" debate)? No reason other than wasting time/energy. Why would such a system not retain information from prior visits and simply ask for changes and updates to previously reported information? Its not a HIPAA thing. Is it because you don't value the client's time? So, you really are going to ask me to fill out this complete multi-page form again for another appointment next week - really!? Finally, lets talk about the importance of scheduling appointments that acknowledges the world of health insurance that we live in and that funds the very existence of the modern optometrist office. When a client completes an appointment and the optometrist tells the person at the front desk to set them up for their annual appointment, it is not a stretch to think that part of the scheduling algorithm would be to include insurance requirements for the ANNUAL check-up. So, imagine my disappointment, when I show up after completing the forms, working my way through security, and the front desk staff asks, "So, you're going to be paying for this visit out of your pocket?" No, I pay a monthly premium so I don't have to. Now, to make it worse, I have addressed these same issues - in writing - to the company at least 2 years ago. They haven't done anything to change them. This optometry office needs significant improvement.
