I have been a patient of Dr. Knudson for over 5 years and without a doubt he and his team is truly the best optometrist office I've ever been to. Dr. Knudson is extremely knowledgeable, friendly, patient and focused on providing the best experience possible regardless of what your eye care needs are. He has two locations but practices more at the Rea Farm location and regardless of which location you go to, you can expect excellent customer service, prompt attention and a professional environment. His offices offer LASIK surgery, contacts lenses, glasses and of course thorough eye exams. Over the years, I've come to consider him more of an friend than my doctor because of his honesty, friendly demeanor and expertise. I ordered sunglasses from your office nearly 7 weeks ago. They were supposed to be ready in 2 weeks. The times I called your office (they never proactively communicated with me) I was routed to the same person. She gave me the run around, did nothing to resolve the issue or offer to compensate me for the inconvenience. The glasses finally came in, but no one called to notify me. I received a text and an email which is very cold when you've got two ladies sitting at your counter. I've used Carolinas Vision Group ever since I moved to Charlotte, but this last experience has been so disappointing. It's time to move on. read more

Your response was just a generic template that doesn't reflect what actually happened. Over just 2.5 months, my prescription was changed three times and the glasses were remade four separate times. Despite all of this, I never received a usable pair of glasses. Suggesting that I "reach out" again ignores the fact that I already did that multiple times. At this point, the only reasonable solution is a full refund so I can return to VSP and have the prescription and glasses made correctly elsewhere. I'm posting this update so future patients understand the full context, because a generic template response doesn't match the seriousness of the experience. read more

My exam was fine but I reached out again later to get a trial of a different lens as I decided I wanted to wear something with minimal PFAs. It was way more difficult than it should have been to get ahold of them and the office staff seemed inconvenienced by my request. I had to follow up multiple times to even get a reply and I didn't get the new lenses after being told they would get back to me. I ended up ordering more of the original contact brand that I no longer wanted out of desperation. Thankfully, I found and went with 'Eiyan' to get my prescription adjusted online and it was super simple. They also have no PFAs in their contacts... oh and they're half the price of name brands. Highly recommended checking them out. I won't be back to this location. read more

The physicians and the staff supporting the physicians have always been amazing! I have recommended this group to so many people due to customer service and ease of use. However, recently, both my partner and I for completely different visits experienced the same thing with different insurance and then overheard the same discussions while in the office...I got three calls from the front desk before my sons appt to verify insurance. She told me to ensure I was signed up and connect with HR. I'm not only HR but HR for HR and the benefits team that manages benefits. It was not an HR issue, it's a lack of information or know how/training for this team. I told her the information again after 3 times then during my son's appt I overheard them telling another patient they couldn't confirm information and check with HR. This is completely frustrating as I have been and my kids have been patients for 5+ years. I haven't changed insurance or jobs. Everyone besides this new team seemingly, is amazing, but this lack of understanding from the front desk or follow-up when I've called to order contacts. No only did they not call back multiple times, once I got a hold of a helpful person she did send the script to order from a vendor which was fine but CVG in the past just did it and I'm sure got some benefit but I at least always got a call back. Luckily this person answered and helped. Again, Doctors are great and their intake staff but the front desk is now lacking and moved away from iPads to paper forms and lack of communication and complete disregard or know how. Please fix this. I love going here and if I send through the general box based on my experience, I can't expect it to be actioned. This team of professionals and my favorite eye care center deserve better. We as dedicated patients that refer patients to those we love, deserve better. read more

I needed to get a contact lens fitting and an annual eye exam. I visited this office and Dr. Stahl was great but the support staff was not. They charged my insurance company $2,100 for a contact lens fitting. When I called to ask why, they said someone keyed in an extra zero on the vision claim. Because of this I was not allowed to purchase contacts. I had to call the business back and explain and I was told by Tracy at the front that she would give me a call back asap. 5 hours later I had not heard back so I followed up. When Tracy got on the phone she laughed and said "what were we doing again?". I was super disappointed that this huge mistake didn't have priority to be resolved. Because of this mistake, I was unable to purchase contact lenses from my vision providers preferred vendor, thus losing an additional 200 dollar allowance. They also prescribed contacts that were 75 dollars more per 90 day supply when my usual contacts worked great. When I questioned the front office why the brand was different when what I have been wearing has worked fine for years, she said "the doctor would know the best brand to put you in". The person at the front who tried to get me to buy contacts directly from them instead of an outside vendor kept cutting me off when I said I just needed a prescription and nothing further. read more

Would give this a zero if possible. Exam went smooth, was sent home with a trial pair of lenses and a promise that they would work with me to find the best fit. When the first lenses didn't work out ($1300 price tag), they were unresponsive for new options. So frustrated that now I just want an updated version of the gas perm lenses I have had for decades. They now tell me that my $180 exam didn't cover the machine needed for gas perm lenses and they can't get me back in for over a month. Was misguided at my examination and then dismissed on multiple follow ups. read more

I've been wearing glasses since I was 6 and contacts since I was 17 and I'm in my 50s so you could say I've had my fair share of eye doctor appts and contact lens fittings. This was not a good experience at Ballantyne I've never been so rushed in my life. You could tell the doctor was just trying to get as many patients in as she possibly could. When the doctor checked my eyes she literally asked me "a or b" 3 times on each eye and that was that. I honestly don't think she even did a contact lens exam. Additionally, they took a picture of my eye which I've usually asked do I want to pay for it, but in this case was given no choice. At the end they charged me for it. I thought it was now part of the exam because when I asked the doctor about it, she told me "they like to do this" as if it was part. Then I was charged on the way out. Or course my contact lens prescription was the "exact same" only I can tell my prescription changed and now I need to go somewhere else to see what's going on. I would never return to the Ballantyne location again. The staff was nice so I'm giving it a 2. It was not a good exam... at all. read more

The low star is for people answering phone, pretty much non existence. I been calling trying to schedule or make change, there is never a live person answer phone, was told 48 hours to get a call back, depending on which office you call, sometimes you never get a call back. But once you are there, most staff are generally good, except one is bossy. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Knudsen since the practice opened. I have referred many patients to the facility for years. I had an appointment scheduled with them for 5pm today. I walk in the office and they tell me that I'm late so it's canceled and that the appointment was at 4:45. I pull up the text conversation where the office scheduled it at 5 and the desk assistant tells me it doesn't matter she has it in for 4:45 so I can't be seen. I'm so upset because I drove an hour for this appointment, this is the same appointment they rescheduled because they didn't have a tech to perform the testing previously, and because I needed the appointment to see if I still had swelling near my optic nerve for a stroke I had. Swelling that can cause blindness. The lack of compassion and the way the staff member made me feel as if I did something wrong even after I showed her the text correspondence was mind blowing. I am so disappointed and saddened by this experience. read more

I have very mixed feelings about my experience here. While everyone was courteous and both offices are so nice, I'm left with lots of money spent out of pocket and still can't pass the vision test to renew my license. I came to CVG because I was having trouble seeing street signs and things in the distance while driving. I was diagnosed with being far sighted and given glasses. I don't have vision insurance because I never had any issues with my vision until my daughter was born so I paid out of pocket for everything and purchased the glasses I was prescribed. When they came in I knew something wasn't right but I was urged to take them home and try them for longer. Then I fell down the stairs holding my daughter while wearing them because my depth perception was so off. I would reach for doorknobs and would be inches off and skin my toes stepping into street curbs because they weren't were they appeared to be. I went back, waited several weeks to see the doctor again, and got another pair of glasses with a different prescription. The depth perception issue got much better but I still got intense headaches while working or trying to read for pleasure until I finally just put the expensive glasses in a drawer. I contacted CVG and they told me to just give it more time to adjust. The street sign and driving issue never got any better. I couldn't see the signs while driving even when wearing my glasses which is the whole reason I sought them out in the first place. Fast forward to now and it is time to renew my license to the new RealID and I can't pass the vision test because it tests distance vision so I am forced with finding a new provider and paying out of pocket again to get someone who will actually help. read more

Please do not go there. They cheat, fraud and the office staff is lazy. Dr. Hudson is great. I will not be going back to this practice. First call to make an appointment: Gave them info on phone about the changing insurance. 1st Office visit on appointment day: 4 appointments for the entire family. They said we had poor coverage. When we reach there asked them do you have our correct coverage. They said yes they run it with social security and everything is on track. We pay 450$ for the exam. Not convinced we go home and check. They still have old insurance they never updated and considered us out of network. They never told us this visit will be out of network. 2nd Office Visit: We go equipped with paperwork and network show them and request a correction. They take down the info and say Refund shortly. We give them a week and check insurance filing etc. They have not changed our insurance in the system, nor have they filed a fresh claim with EYEMED which is our provider. I can go on and on about their frame and Lens Department. DO NOT USE THIS PRACTICE !! Will update you if they resolve this. read more

I just left here with mixed feelings. The staff was friendly from the moment I walked in. I filled out my paperwork and was taken back to an exam room almost immediately. My eye exam was completed and I was taken to another room to wait for Dr. Watt. After about 10 minutes he came in and throughly explained everything he saw from the exam and then proceeded to get me checked out for my prescription. After he was completed he lead me out to the showroom and handed me off to Connie so I could pick my frames. This is where it got a little dicey. This was the longest time I've ever taken to select frames. The selection wasn't the greatest, especially when it came to sunglasses unless you want to fork over a small fortune for Maui Jim's or Oakleys and even at that the Oakley selection was tiny. So I finally decided on the exact same frames I have now. Why not, I love them and they've withstood 2 years of punishment and held up great. They have these frames listed at $259 so just out of curiosity I checked a couple different reputable websites to find them listed from anywhere from $92-120. They are Nike 7092 frames if you wanna call me out on it. Check for yourself. So back to the sunglasses...of the abysmal pairs that they had I finally found a pair of Columbia glasses that weren't terrible. They had them listed at $199 but again I checked to find them on the old internet listed from $91-166. I understand businesses have to make a buck but when I asked her about it she replied, I don't make the rules I just work here and I can't do anything about it. So while my experience with check in and the exams was great, I'm quite put off by how much they mark up the frames. My old place in Ohio I walked out with the same eyeglasses and a pair of Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses for around $500...today the final bill was just south of $700 and my insurance is better now than it was 2 years ago. Doctor seemed good and gave a thorough exam but office / tech staff have been a nightmare to deal with - it took three phone calls and two office visits just to get a copy of my exam invoice so I could use it for my rebate; They ordered the wrong contacts and when I called they said they would order the correct ones and call me - no call so I called them again to ask about when they would be in only to find out they had never even been ordered; they have had to order trials for my hubby 3 different times and each time it is like pulling teeth to even find out if they had come in yet - we are well over a month since our yearly exam and still don't have the right contacts in hand. Also, they had printed the wrong glasses prescription (it was the original one I had come in with not the new one I needed to be able to see since my eyes had changed) - just glad I caught It before ordering glasses - so I had to call about that and get that straightened out. Very frustrating to deal with the office / tech staff - they say they will do something and then there is absolutely no follow through. UPDATE: We are now at zero stars - finally got a good prescription for Hubby's contacts - went to order and was like pulling teeth from the office staff to get them to correctly repeat back to me what I was even ordering, was put on hold multiple times - then they called me back to say they had misquoted the price (despite the fact last time we were there I kept asking if there were any changes in price and was assured there was not) - the coup de gras was constant excuses about how she is busy and then I was hung up on. I called back to speak with the Operations Manager who I was told was not in the office. I have no idea what is wrong with these people - but it is June (we started this process in April) and I have had it. RUN AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE - they are clearly incompetent. read more

I had a wonderful experience with my eye exam and was thrilled that I chose them for my new eye doctors. Unfortunately, then I dealt with the people in the eyewear department and it has completely soured me to the entire practice. I told the girl helping me I only wanted frames and lenses covered by my insurance - I knew I would only need them for occasional use. She assured me numerous times it was ALL covered and now I continue to receive invoices with no resolution - even when they acknowledge they were incorrect in what was covered. Please don't be taken in by their dishonest practices of upselling items. There are lots of other place to spend your hard earned money. read more

Nobody gave me any reason why my Glaucoma appointment was canceled. I took a time off from my work for the eye appointment and I was told when I got to the clinic the appointment is canceled and no Nobody gave me any reason why. Now I have to take a time off again from my work for the same next eye appointment hopefully I will not be surprised next time. It was a very frustrating and customer harassment visit. read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Knudsen for the past few years. Dr. Knudsen and his staff have always been very friendly and easy to work with. Even though they seem to be busier now than they have been, it is still easy to get an appointment on fairly short notice. I also appreciate how the doctor and his staff work to get you in and out with minimal waiting, while maintaining a high level of quality. The 2nd worse eye doctor I've ever visited. They have no concern for their patients. I encountered 3 issues with my visit: 1. They charged me $130, instead of $70 for my visit. It took weeks before the difference was refunded. 2. They didn't have my trial contacts in stock and had to order them; no wait time was specified. After 2 weeks I called, since I hadn't heard anything. I was told that it takes 2 weeks, which had already passed. I mentioned this to the doctor when the contact were fitted. She was surprised it took so long and that there was no follow up. 3. The trail contacts were the wrong prescription. I waited 25 minutes in an exam room for the doctor to check things out. No one ever stopped in to tell me what was going on; I just sat in a windowless room. At that point I went to the front desk, where I was told to just go back in the room and keep waiting - no estimate of how long was given. I told her I was leaving. I received a follow up text thanking me for my visit. I replied back with the details above. I've never heard back from the practice. They had multiple opportunities to fix things and didn't take advantage of any of them. I would avoid this office. read more

I've been a patient of this practice for years. For most of it, I was an out-of-pocket payer and spent thousands of dollars on glasses and sunglasses for me and my wife. Today I came into the Ray Farms location and spent about a half hour with no one ever even acknowledging my presence as I was trying on frames. The only time someone approached me, it was a grumpy receptionist who curtly asked me if I have a mask. There is no longer a county mandate, so I told her I did not and asked if it's required. I was told it was and that they have a box of disposable masks on the counter. It was empty. I stood there to ask, but she never looked at me again, like when I'm unmasked I'm invisible. I went back to trying on frames for another five minutes. I crossed paths with the same woman and asked a question about a pair of sunglasses. Her thinly veiled contemptuous response was ridiculous at which point I walked out. Sad that customer service, or mere civility, has gone out the window. I think my wife and I should cancel our upcoming appointments and take our business where it's appreciated. read more

I'm conflicted about writing this review... I brought my daughter in for her first formal eye exam following a kindergarten eye screening. Our appointment was on 11/14 and the staff and doctor were really pleasant and helpful. They kept my daughter at ease throughout the appointment. My issue is the time it has taken to get her glasses. On 11/14 I was told her glasses had a target date of 11/25. On 11/26 I called to see if they were ready. I was told they had not been delivered from the lab and that someone would call me back with an estimated delivery date. A gentleman called back and said the lab confirmed the glasses were completed and would be shipped to the office that day and arrive 11/27. Because Thanksgiving was the next day I did not expect to pick them up until the next week. Today, 12/5, I called to confirm they were there before picking them up. I was told the glasses were still not completed by the lab and have yet to be sent to the office. I understand holidays can have an impact on shipping... what I don't understand is the lack of communication. read more

I have been to a fair amount of eye doctors across the country due to relocations for work and I have to say I'm glad I followed through on the referral. This was my first time seeing Dr. Ricker and the entire staff was helpful and efficient getting me set up with my VSP insurance making sure that I wouldn't have any issues. If you're looking for a new eye doctor I would highly recommend giving CVG a call. You won't be disappointed. read more

I showed up to my appointment this morning only to find out that I had been deleted from the schedule. They could try to "squeeze" me in but I'd have to wait "a while". I have young children and plan my appointments accordingly. This was extremely frustrating, disappointing, and inconvenient.
