My husband was in Manitowoc for several weeks due to his job so I made the drive up for a weekend to visit. The Best Western is located right on the lake and many of the rooms offer a great lake view. It's an older hotel and is definitely outdated; however, the staff is friendly and accommodating. The hotel is very clean and offers a complimentary continental breakfast with scrambled eggs and waffles. There is also an indoor pool and whirlpool. There is a small bar featuring daily drink specials and a locally made Wisconsin, all beef 1/4 pound hotdog for just a dollar when you order a drink. The hotel is centrally located and walking distance to the downtown area featuring numerous bars and restaurants. read more

4 Stars for the Best Western. This is located in a wonderful location if you want to walk around Manitowoc and survey the town. The pool area is nice - they offer a decent sized pool, along with a nice whirlpool and sauna. There is a free Continental Breakfast which is offered in the dining area every morning. They have a lot of different options to pick from. If you are able to select your room, make sure to try and get one with a lake view. Friendly staff, free Wi-Fi, and all for a good price. We stay here every year and will continue to do so. read more

I am surprised by how much others are impressed with this hotel. Manitowoc has an unusual lodging situation because it is a small town, not a vacation destination, and yet the hotels are all priced high. Especially considering we came during the off-season. The hotel was practically empty during our whole stay- we never saw more than 5 cars in the parking lot. Our family filled 5 rooms and we saw only a few others during our 4 day stay. This hotel is very accommodating to families, so that's a plus. The hotel has a nautical theme, but the whole facility is dated and dusty. Our room featured press board laminate furniture, 2 rock hard beds, a tiny armchair, and a TV with fuzzy channels. The bathroom was your standard small bathroom, but the door was so big, we had to basically straddle the toilet to close or open the door. Who designed this?? And even though the hotel was empty, our rooms were spread across all 3 floors and my room on the first floor was as far away from the lobby as possible. Mystifying. The pool is a really nice feature, it's a large pool with a hot tub and sauna room. We had a lot of kids with us and there was a lot of room for them to play. The continental breakfast offers a wide selection,  but in my opinion, none of it is very good. The fruit is poor quality, the coffee is weak, the hot items are gummy and flavorless, and the baked goods are stale. Yogurt and cereal are safe bets if you want to eat. The dining room is very large and has a sweeping view of Lake Michigan. Our family was able to hang out in the common area of the hotel and watch football on the large screen TV. This hotel should be charging $25-30 less per night than they are. For that price, I would be much more forgiving of the state of the hotel. This is an OK place to stay, but I can't give it a higher rating at this price point. read more

I gave this place a solid 3! We did enjoy our stay the staff was friendly and the room was nice and clean. We stayed in the king with a view of the lake. It is a very small view, but a view none the less. The location is great. Close to downtown and you can walk on the path all the way around and out to the lighthouse. The pool are and hot tub were a little old, but they were clean and no one was using it so I got and hour of quality swim and soak time in. The breakfast was good. We got there late so we had to take it back to the room, but they were very nice about it. We also got to see the ferry (about 12:30) that was really cool. read more

Lime everyone else's reviews this place gets an average rating. It's a disappointment because it is such an awesome locale. Right on the water in the heart of Manitowoc. Just a block away from downtown. When I first entered the chorine smell from the indoor pool was overwhelming. After I checked in I noticed the entire hotel had a musty damp smell. I don't think their indoor pool has proper ventilation because all the humidity leaks into the rest of the hotel. I was upgraded to a king sweet for free because they were booked up on rooms, not going to argue with that. My room was extremely comfy and spacious, with two TVs, a huge tub/shower, and a separate bedroom away from the rest of the room. It had the standard amenities, coffee maker, mini fridge, stuff like that. The furniture and carpet were quite dated it looked like it was from the 80s. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. The wifi for the hotel is spotty and cuts out a lot. The breakfast was the standard continental fare of powdered eggs, microwave sausage, cereal and bagels, nothing exciting or tasty. This hotel is good for a cheap stay in the area but I would t call it high quality at all. Just more plain mediocre. They need to serve cookies at night with the coffees. read more

I've spent many nights in Wisconsin, but none in a hotel or motel that I can recall. My parents have a lake house near Minocqua so we usually just head there. This year, however, our planned time in the lake house overlapped with my brother's so we took a scenic route to Minocqua via the town my grandmother lived as a child and young adult -- Two Rivers. We'd hoped to get a room in Two Rivers, but everything was full by the time we got there. We drove south to Manitowoc and looked at the possibilities. I'm a little squeamish about staying in hotel/motels and read some reviews online. Normally I'd stay at a Hampton Inn if possible, but the closest was in Green Bay. We drove past the Best Western which is right on Lake Michigan and next to the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. When my husband saw the submarine at the Maritime Museum, I thought we should check out the hotel to see if they had rooms and then he could visit the submarine in the morning. We were in luck -- there were a couple of rooms available so we checked in. The quoted price was much less than we normally spend at a Hampton Inn. The check-in was about average for a hotel. The woman behind the desk seemed harried and grumpy, but after mentioning she'd not slept much the night before, I was much more sympathetic to her. She warmed up soon after that. The hotel was clean, the room was adequate to our needs. We didn't exactly have a lake view, but it didn't matter. We settled in and then went to the lounge for a drink. The young woman behind the bar was sweet and friendly. They serve bar food, but we decided to go elsewhere to eat. They serve what they call a continental breakfast, but is really a hot breakfast including scrambled eggs. It was pretty good. The room in which breakfast is served faces the lake and on a sunny day can be very warm. We chose to eat breakfast outside because it was warm enough. They have an indoor swimming pool and hot tub, but we didn't test those out. All in all -- the view, the location, the comfort, the breakfast -- this was a pleasant stay. Perhaps not a 4-star quality motel, but we had a 4-star experience. read more

Asked for an extra blanket. Received an honest to God piece of felt that didn't even cover the bed. We also had to go to desk to pick it up. When I mentioned it to the desk the following morning, I was told this was their blankets. I said it wasn't what was made up on the bed. She said well you should have come down and gotten another one... read more

The manager (not Miranda) was the opposite of welcoming and seemingly disinterested with paying guests. Room was fine but the windows could use a good cleaning for a lakefront room. Cleaning staff, so incredibly nice. Jolene the bartender was delightful and we will likely be back just to have a drink at her bar! read more

Great value for the price, staff was very friendly and engaging to my family and I. After I checked out I received a call from the hotel that I had left a tablet behind that had been turned i by the cleaning crew. The hotel pool was great because it was as warm as a bath. Other then staff smoking in front of the hotel so there was not way to enter without inhaling their smoke I enjoyed my stay and would recomend it to others, as I will likely stay there again in the future. read more

The hotel has a convenient and picturesque location on the lakefront. The front desk personnel were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and well stocked with the necessities, but no shower cap, which I needed. The Continental Breakfast was satisfactory but the older mature woman working there was rude to me and my husband. She commented that my husband ate too much and he should be leaving food for other people. This mature employee oversteped her bounds as far as we are concerned. We will be in Manitowoc all summer and part of the Fall season, and we are disppointed that we have to be exposed to an employee who obviously has no supervision or understands her job description, which should include some positive public relations. The African American younger woman was very friendly and helpful. And...she had plently of food to replenish the food tables! read more

This dump has shower drains that don't work. Take a shower in your own and someone else's filth. And the other clients leave a lot to be desired of the "hotel". I'm calling corporate and my credit card company. Because I'm not paying for this fecal hotel. My poor wife has to go to another in the am for a shower. Big WTF????? This is an older hotel and could use some upgrades, the WiFi can be extremely slow at times. That said, you can't beat the location, value, cleanliness, or the pleasant environment that each and every employee encountered offers! We requested a room with a view, the only available option was a room with two double beds, after seeing that room we decided on a king room (no view) which was twice the size of the two doubles. Lovely view of the lake from the breakfast area, breakfast was a typical offering of fare, and the breakfast hostesses we're ever diligent and pleasant. Spent an afternoon on the back patio with an unobstructed view of the lake, sailboats, and even watched the S.S. Badger car ferry go by at 2pm (what a sight)! The hotel is next to the maritime museum, with numerous restaurants within walking distance, but their great asset is the staff in my opinion! read more

I agree with most of the reviews. It needs to be updated. I was told at the Marina store next door that it had new owners and they were hoping for some updates. It was quiet, nice pool area but the chlorine was so strong my eyes are still burning. The free breakfast was a nice feature, it is continental not a buffet so some of the complainers are not being fair. It is better than most for what it is. Nice lake walkway right out the door. Good location. We will go back, not for the plush rooms or excellent decor, but because of the location and clean enough. It is dog friendly if that is important to you. read more
