Captain Kevin is knowledgeable of the lake and known how to throw a party for adults but he also proved to be a baby whispered (saved a meltdown). The boat itself is everything you could ask for spacious, the most comfortable boat seats I've ever sat on, top deck, a slide, and clean large bathroom! Get Ready, Get Set, Get Elevated!…read more Bottom Line Up Front: This is our second year using Elevated Wake and once again,e had a wonderful, enjoyable, vigorous and "elevated" time for a good price. For four hours, pre-teens to "teens in thier fifties" did it all; water skiing, swimming, wake surfing and "hyper-tubing." The Good: One word -- Captain Pat! Ok that is two words, but one name never to forget. Captain Pat was an experienced boat Captain and water sports instructor (has been doing this for 30 years) and knows in the Lake well. He got us underway on time, was prepared, and was a delightful host, instructor and DJ. We had three new water-skiers ages ranging from pre-teen to "salty" adult that Pat successfully got up on skis within a few tries. We had one new wake surfer that he had up within two tries. Pat was patient, experienced, and very insightful; he knew what to say and how to say it to each participant, literally and figuratively, and even-keeled. As far as tubing goes, with a few hand signals, the tubers are in control, and the speeds range from slow and steady, fast and furious, to ludicrous speed. Fun was had by all in our group. Four hours on the water was the sweet spot for our group of nine. We started on time and finished promptly on time. Captain Pat picked us up and dropped us off at our location on the lake. His company also provides services other lakes in the area, and offer boat rentals. The Bad: There was nothing bad! From start to finish, we had a wonderful time -- Pat was a great captain and host. He let us choose the music for each participant and he entertained all our questions. The Ugly: Other than my slalom ski attempts, there was nothing ugly! I highly recommend Captain Pat and Elevated Wake Company! If you find yourself in Lake Winnipesaukee, this is definitely an enjoyable way to spend a few hours. We saw 2 nests with a loon hopefully incubating their eggs as well as 2 different families of loons with their chicks. We also came across a Common Merganser with her chicks resting on a rock. Aside from that one time when we went camping and the tent fell down in the rain, congratulations! You are number one on my list of worst places to stay...ever! The what-would-have-been-an-otherwise-glorious-weekend started when we almost got lost trying to find the dirt path that would lead us towards the lovely "chalet" that we were staying in....you know, it's to the left of the broken down truck and past the tiny painted wooden sign that says "chalets" (what, those aren't good enough landmarks for you??) As we entered the house which was decked out in some awesome 70's style furniture (and also looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the 70's), we scrambled to claim our beds, Real World style. Luckily all the rooms were pretty much exactly the same--you know, box fans, giant bugs and the best part... slightly moist sheets. Awesome. We sucked it up though and after a while I think the place grew on us. After all, there is definitely something comical about a family of ants living on the bathroom floor and a giant hole in the ceiling stuffed with toilet paper. Sure, drinking to cope helped, but who wouldn't think that mouse droppings on the kitchen table was funny?? It wasn't until the next morning when someone noticed the blood on the bathroom wall that we knew we were staying in a truly memorable place. (Seriously, I couldn't even make this shit up people.) All is not lost though, there is one redeeming factor of Kona: the shower. With the warm water (I know, right!?) and fantastic water pressure, it was the one thing made you feel as though you weren't staying, well, at the Kona Mansion Inn. Ahhhh.... relaxation....that is until your friend comes to knock on the bathroom door: "Umm... can you hurry up, the water is dripping through the ceiling into the kitchen..." And, we're back! So the moral of the story is, who needs to camp in the rain when you can stay at the Kona Mansion Inn and get the same effect? Right, camping in the rain it is.

----- Concise Review…read more Wonderful wedding + reception ----- Longer Review We traveled to South Tamworth, New Hampshire, by way of Boston, MA and then North Conway, NH, for the wedding of our niece to her husband. The trip was brief - Thursday evening to Sunday, but filled with family and fun. Our niece and (now) nephew selected whiteface hollow for the wedding and reception. whiteface hollow - a fantastic barn + house + winery in South Tamworth, NH. The wedding ceremony was outside, in the field, under a large maple tree, and the reception was in the barn. The property has parking in an open space amid trees... the sky is visible but the trees also provide shading to keep the intense heat off the vehicles. The property has a gentle hillside, leading to the grape vines, with a beautiful view of the White Mountains off in the distance... the view was beautiful in the afternoon and phenomenal with that night's sunset! The owner shared that the barn is original wood - interior... the floors and walls are new boards created when they brought a saw mill onsite to cut the wood from trees on the property. The barn had plenty of room for the 18 tables for guests + a dance floor for all of us.. with space for food, and the bar downstairs, and two spaces upstairs (no walls, but balcony rails). Speaking of the bar... they served inside and also through a window to the outside... the blueberry lemonade is very tasty! The winery isn't producing yet but the building is there, and we enjoyed brunch the next morning - nice! And the painting of the property over the bar is wonderful artwork. The owner and her crew were great... so helpful; we were guests so we didn't have the stress, but we could see things were well planned and executed smoothly.
