Students are promoted regardless of their skill level, and he provides excessive guidance, eliminating the need for students to memorize their training forms. During rank evaluations, Black belts judging students which met with disappointment. They are complaining about the students do not know their technique, lack of stances, lack of power and fail to perform their training form. They also stated that Mr. Spivey promotes those students regardless. Furthermore, there is a notable presence of parental drama, including gossip and misinformation dissemination among parents, reminiscent of high school dynamics. Parents do not supervise their children and allow them to make a lot of noise and run around while class is in session. Over the course of three years, more than 37 students have dropped out due to dissatisfaction with his teaching methods. Openly expressing concerns or opinions often results in expulsion.

There's a nice, small area with chairs on the other side of a windowed wall where parents and friends can sit and observe. The children's class we saw was about an hour long. They also offer teen and adult classes, too. We saw a classmate achieve another belt level -- and what he went through. It gave us an idea of what our grandson had to do to achieve his various colored belts and stripes. It was so nice to see the discipline of everyone; the respect given to the teachers. And the range of ages in the class. As others have said, these classes are not only for discipline and strength training, but also for building confidence. The students are well disciplined and respectful to the facility and each other. This evening's exercises were abbreviated due to one student's graduation session and moving up one belt. One can see the maturity and development guided by the Sensei working on the mats with them. Lots of proud parents!

My oldest has been enjoying coming to class and being around kids his own age. He told me today that watching sparing is one of his favorite things so far. My only critique would be to see a bit more split for the smaller kids to the big kids early on. With the ability to catch on faster, the older kids (pre teens and up) would benefit from being split into a group by themselves so that they can be taught and move a bit faster. On occasion, the younger kids both have trouble following through with their skills, and it causes class to move slower for the older students. I look forward to seeing my almost teenager continue to grow and progress with this program.
