Maxwell & Blondie Love Lakes Animal Clinic!

There are many veterinarians and animal hospitals within driving distance of my home, but, I prefer Lakes Animal Clinic located in Antioch Illinois above all others!!! Like thousands of other pet owners, I have been bringing our pets to Lakes Animal Clinic for years and years! We have adult children that encountered unsatisfactory experiences with other veterinarians, extreme expense, without resolution of their pet's medical and dental conditions........ they switched to Lakes Animal Clinic; and, as anticipated, their pets were expertly well cared for, at an affordable cost by extremely competent veterinarians!

    Pacey with leg amputated.

My male cat, Pacey, fell and could not use his leg. He was diagnosed as having thrown a blood clot into his front leg and a heart issue. Of course, all heart tests were negative. The bottom line was that my cat needed his leg amputated. After spending $5,000 and seeing 3-4 vets for more testing (negative again), no one would amputate the cat's leg, fearing he would die because of his bad heart. Very frustrating. Pacey was in pain and his skin was coming off. His leg was too damaged for leg surgery. Finally, we went to Lakes Animal Clinic. They looked at all of Pacey's records and did not believe he had a bad heart. They immediately amputated the leg, and he was fine. That was over a year ago, and Pacey is perfectly healthy. Many thanks to the staff at Lakes Animal Clinic!

    2-pet limit per visit

I usually love the attention here , and today's opinion is heavily influenced by my worry about my cat. I arrived at 530 and it's now 7 and we are still waiting. Ahead of us we had a foster care group who brought in about 12 pets. This would be ok if this place had appointments , but it's first come first served and they have a sign up that says they have a 2-pet limit. My cat is in pain and I don't mind having to wait. It's the way it works here , but I wish they'd Honor their policy and keep the 2-pet limit and make accomodations/appointments for organizations that need to bring in a big groups of foster babies. Other than that, I do love the attention they give the animals

Just got home from our daily 4-5 mile trail walk. Akela had her second ACL repair (left leg this time) Performed by Lakes Animal clinic in March of 2020. Same excellent care and fantastic results from Lakes! Thank you again!

A very happy Wrigley after her shots at Lakes!

Been coming here for years. Great vets and reasonably priced. First come first serve. That can be annoying but worth the wait.

But logistically it just made sense to have a closer hospital relationship with our aging Bernese. Well...luckily we did that, because I cannot imagine life without the AHLV team now. Not just for their cute videos, the community fundraisers for socializing with other pups/people or the love for their team, but the utterly amazing intense respect and appreciation they have for the animals that come into their lives. Tear jerker time...Our oldest girl Tonka three years ago contracted Lyme disease. The full big girl version with lameness starting. We do not have human children, she is our little love filled fur baby. Dr Unger, Grace and Matt all gave me updates and not just "updates" it was with so much understanding and genuine care for our family that my scared/angry/sad/panicked momma heart actually felt comfort in our decisions and the best course of action to treat. I knew and understood everything that could and should hopefully happen. Their amazing staff brought my girl back to nearly untouched health and I still tear up thinking about it. We were lucky. But luck is only a very small part of it. AHLV is the rest of that piece. We are now a few years later and have our new "little" Leonberger pup that is of course going to them. With covid it's been interesting to say the least not being able to walk in with our pup. But I tell you what, when Grace's smiling face and Brittani's bubbly self bounce out of the door they are definitely aware that a 70lb 5 month old Puca is ready to rocket out into their arms with kisses coming very shortly after! Thank you everyone at AHLV for helping US through an incredibly scary thing with grace and patience and for all the care you show for even the normal appointments. I can't imagine in any way taking our Tonka and Puca girls to anyone else's arms.

The staff is incredibly kind and well mannered despite the constant level of high stress & anxiety they clearly face daily. 1st of all home slice; This is an emergency vet clinic, which means that it's walk-in only. they do schedule for surgeries and vaccinations weeks out, but they don't schedule pets by appointment/time; they schedule peta based on arrival time and emergency priority. I used to not understand this but now I do; it's because emergencies happen and sometimes they need to drop everything to try to save a dog's life. if you come on an off day or less busy time/day you can get in and out in an hour or less! when my runt was hit by a car; I called them and told that I was coming down the road and they saw him the moment I entered the clinic (he lives!) The reason people have to wait is because they prioritize what dogs they see based on the emergency level. And after both waiting several hours at a busy time and being seen immediately, I understand why they run it that way. PRICE: This is the most affordable vet clinic I've ever found. There's a reason I've been coming here for over a decade! I get their vaccinations here. I do their bloodwork here I do heartworm testing here. I get my dogs dental done here. I've had several of my dogs put under for different minor cyst removals here. I've had x-rays & checkover done when my dog was hit by a car (he lived and he's OK:) I will scream it from the rooftops; This is the absolute best veterinarian clinic I've ever found in my 20+ years of looking. I have three dogs now, i've had 6 total so far in life and if you bring in multiple dogs or if you have a dog that needs multiple procedures done, they have always given me a stack up deal. They are very supportive and they want your pet to be healthy. Just bring your dog to them. just trust me. just do it. SUPER affordable. STAFF & FACILITY All the staff are great! very nice Sharon Sarah Dawn Debbie Blue Elliott Elizabeth everyone is cool dawg it's chill the Drs are all awesome super smart & patient, there are several that rotate shifts /times/days. they are great! they will always answer my many endless questions. they have always cared about giving me good information when I ask what I should do. They are so kind. They put my dogs needs first and they give me incredible feedback about how to be a good pet owner. super affordable super kind. i'm loyal to this place. TIMING: If you have a ROUTINE check up or simple procedure or basic check in that you need to bring your dog for; just don't come on a Monday or a Friday (unless they schedule you for surgery which is always on fridays) because that's when they're the most busy. Come early morning, right when they open on like a Wednesday or Thursday and you won't even barely have to wait in line with your dog/cat I bet. or like a thursday after 1pm sometimes it's super quick & no wait! just depends on how many local area pups have tummy aches etc. please do not poo poo the quality of people who patron this clinic because at the heart of this clinic is a staff and doctors who care about your pets and giving them incredible service at an affordable price. It is really hard to get good care for your pet. We love our animals. We bring them to Fox Lake animal hospital because they are affordable and they CARE about giving you & your pet a good experience. It's so obvious to me that they don't care about frills and extra BS here they care about giving you QUALITY care for your pet without breaking your bank over nonsense fees or making you scared to come to the Vet. you shouldn't be scared to take your dog to the vet. This place is very comfortable.

Harris first dropped my sister as a client when she filed a complaint about lack of timely communication in an urgent care situation. Harris then waited for two months after I posted this review to drop me as a client; they did it when I emailed to get a refill but had fulfilled a different refill the week prior. Julie Keen, the owner's wife and not my animals' vet, noted in my chart that I posted a bad Google review and should not be seen. Harris also dropped my mom when they saw my Reddit post sharing all of the details of this situation. My original review concerns: My cat had an emergency appointment with Dr. Graham and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. I was sent home without any follow up instructions or pain meds. He continued to get worse over the next day and when I called to ask for pain meds and question why I wasn't given them in the first place, the vet claimed I denied pain meds. The receptionists acted like I was irate and screaming at them when I called trying to get my cat the meds he needed to actually improve. The staff expressed concerns that they filled the medication wrong at check out and my mom had to explain how the med was originally filled correct and explain the dosing label to the staff member that was attempting to change how it had been filled. In two different incidents, my primary vet never responded to an email I sent about a dietary consult. My primary vet also didn't respond to me when I reached out to discuss what follow up was needed after an ER visit for my dog due to a new neurological incident. I had to edit my review to make space for the update. In my previous review I gave details about my sister's case and explained that the receptionists claimed she threatened them and called them the r word on the phone when she expressed her concerns about very delayed communication with an urgent medical need. Harris's response is commenting on that piece of the review when they say they do not tolerate mistreatment. They also accused me of threatening them and calling them liars but I recorded the call to prove what was actually said.

Our dogs also had to get vaccines and routine bloodwork to check for heart worm. Pricing is reasonable compared to my old Vet. The staff here are super friendly and welcoming and you can tell Dr. Estrick genuinely loves her job and helping animals. Also, they are prompt when emailing results of bloodwork. So far, I am very happy with my experience at Good Life Veterinary Care and highly recommend them!!

Before we left we were taken to the back to see our girl, and were offered visiting hours and the ability to call and check in with updates at anytime. The nurses were so nice and treated our girl so well that when it came time for us to say good night or bye for now she walked off without hesitation knowing they were going to take care of her. By…read morethe time we arrived, he was already doing much better, but we didn't want to take any chances. We lived only 10 minutes away and didn't have time to research other options. Looking back, it felt like a money machine. They ran a bunch of tests, including some that our regular vet later said were absolutely unnecessary. After all that, they still couldn't tell us what was wrong. What they could do was recommend leaving him overnight on oxygen for around $2.5k per night. Ridiculous! Of course I said no because he was already much better. We left with a $1.7k bill and no diagnosis, only guesses. They also referred us to a specialist, where we spent another $1k on tests only to be told that our dog was fine. Fast forward to recently. My dog has colitis and occasionally has flare-ups. He developed diarrhea and, unlike previous episodes, stopped drinking water. Our regular vet got us in the next morning, but I was worried about dehydration overnight, so I called this clinic because it was late in the evening. I specifically asked whether they could evaluate him and give him fluids to help get him through the night until his appointment. I explained that he already has a known history of colitis and that we already had a plan with our regular vet. Women on the phone was very rude and basically told me that none of that mattered. I was told they require a standard list of diagnostic tests no matter what, and then the veterinarian could decide if even more tests were needed. When I asked if we could skip the full workup and just provide supportive treatment, I was told no, that's their policy. So instead I went to another emergency clinic in Buffalo Grove. They gave him fluids, got him hydrated, and sent us on our way to follow up with our regular vet the next day. No endless testing, no pressure, no trying to turn a straightforward situation into a several thousand dollar visit. Based on my experiences, this place seems far more interested in selling diagnostics than providing practical care. Stop giving your money to this clinic, they don't care about you or your pet, they only care about your money!
